CHAPTER 20

~GABRIELLA'S POV~

I walked through a passage leading to maid rooms. I was tired and exhausted; I hadn't been myself since the party with the council members.

My mind would often trail off during work, or I would feel dizzy every time I tried to lift something heavy. Every time I was around Steven, I felt this sadness well up inside me that made me mess up everything I touched.

I leaned against a window along the passage and let out a sigh. The memory of the incident I witnessed during the party flashed through my mind again, and tears started to fill my eyes.

I tightened my fist and clenched my teeth as my tears dropped one by one.

“He's my mate; he belongs to me... Why couldn't I do anything?” I whimpered, staring through the window.

Why were we born in such cruel circumstances? When I was still in the Dark-Hound Pack, I imagined a world where we would be happy for the rest of our lives after finding each other, a world where nothing would come between us ever again. But,

When I told them my story and how I met Steven, I could see on their faces that they were skeptical, as it was something unbelievable. But now they were able to witness it for themselves."Thank you for paying for the things we bought, my lord,” Clarabelle said, her voice shaking a little.“It's no problem; I thought it would be a nice gesture to my friend, Gabriella, since we only saw each other once and I vanished into the air,” Steven replied with a smile.Steven turned to me and asked, “Why do your friends keep calling me their lord? It's getting a bit uncomfortable,” he said.“Umm, it's just their way of showing appreciation; they're really grateful for your assistance,” I replied, then turned back to Marie and Clarabelle.“Could you two please head back to the mansion to confirm if the alpha is still there? I would really like to make my theor

I asked.“Yes, that's why I have to get him back here every night before it's too late. He gets all stiff as soon as he is in front of the gate, so I just push him in.” Margret replied, skipping from side to side.We were headed back to the mansion late at night when Margret called me forward to give me that little piece of information.I walked back to meet Steven and stood beside him. Our palms met each other, and we both locked fingers.“It's too bad we won't be able to see each other for a while; I was really hoping to spend more time with you,” Steven said.I got a bit confused. I knew that Alpha Steven always found it hard to leave the mansion, but that didn't necessarily mean I and this side of him wouldn't be seeing each other again. I was pretty sure he'd leave the mansion again eventually.“What exactly do you mean?” I asked.“It's one of Margret

Secondly, there was the little girl who said some weird stuff about a curse and a promise. Honestly, I didn't quite understand all of it, but somehow I'm supposed to unlock memories that'll somehow lead to the curse breaking,” I replied.“Honestly, when you said that stuff to us about the alpha being your mate, I was a little skeptical, but now..." Clarabelle said.“Yeah, it's been years, and no one has ever seen the alpha step out of the gates. We all thought he just couldn't, but you saw him do it in your first few weeks. That's crazy; it's probably all that little girl's plan,” Marie added.“Her plan? You think she manipulated the events t

After a few seconds, Alpha Steven's voice sounded.“Come in; it's open,” he said.I gently pushed the door open and walked into the room, my head hanging low and my heart filled with worry and fear.“Good morning, my lord. I've come to assist you with whatever chore you may have for me today,” I said, bowing a little. He remained silent for a few seconds, then said, “Raise your head."I raised my head and stared directly into his eyes, waiting to see what he was going to do or say to me."You didn't get quite enough sleep last night, did you?” he asked.“Well… Whether I got the right amount of sleep last night shouldn't matter; what matters is that I'm here and ready to work,” I said, and Gregory, who was standing on the right side of the alpha desk, smiled.“Hmmm, we're going to be doing a lot of paperwork today. I don't want you to fall asleep during the job,” Ste

Did she remove her veil?” Clarabelle said it with a look of surprise on her face. “Her veil? What's that?” I asked. “Well, all the council members have veils on. The faces you see on them aren't their true faces. Revealing their faces carelessly would put them in real danger. Only the members of the council know the faces of other members,” Clarabelle replied. “Oh? Well, I couldn't really tell if she was on a veil or not,” I said. “Hmm, but you saw the face lady Anaya is known by, and since the alpha's confirmed it, it must've been her,” Maria said. “Yeah, now I feel even more horrible for pouring wine on her dress. What if she gets me killed?” I said, placing my palms over my face. “Oh common, from what you told us, I'm pretty sure she now considers you a friend. Maybe she'll even invite you to her home one day,” Marie said. “Oh, that's right, she gave me

We're already done serving everyone,” she said.“Aaaahyaaabahaabbaba,” the jibrish poured out of my mouth, and following it was smoke. The maid stared at me for a moment with a confused expression on her face, then said, “Uhhh, your friends are waiting for you at the table over there.” She pointed in the direction, and I moved toward it.“Uhhh, I think something's wrong with Gabriella,” Maria said as I took a seat.“You think? Her face is all red, and she hasn't blinked or said anything in like five minutes,” Clarabelle answered. They both stared at me for a few more seconds, then Maria picked up a glass of water and splashed

They laughed and talked about the matters of the mansion and how hard they'd worked the previous day. I didn't know everyone in the mansion yet, so their faces were new to me.“Good morning,” I greeted, but they didn't reply. Things went back to normal so quickly that it almost seemed like nothing happened at all—like all the struggles my friends were put through by Episteme, Evelyn, and Agnes were just a dream. People forgot that a company like Higher Wellness Pharmaceuticals existed and that Governor Gerald was a criminal.Newspapers and written reports about the matter disappeared without a trace. Because of this, Steven’s company was unaffected by Evelyn’s actions, and the criminals involved were convicted secretly by the council. Questions were asked about Governor Gerald’s and Queen Elizabeth's disappearances, but people soon got distracted by other things and lost interest in the matter. They had been waiting for Marie and the others to return for hours, but there was no sign of them returning at all.Clarabelle did well to protect everyone from the intense heat, and now that the sun had moved away from the earth, she was sure that Marie and her friends had won the battle. In fact, as the Immortal of Fate, she already knew they would win, and she already knew who would bring that victory, but she wasn't allowed to say a word to anyone. What she wasn't sure of was if they had survived or not, because she refused to look that far into the future.“Do you think they'll return safely?” Maria asked with worry in her voice. She has lost her husband before and was very afraid of losing him again.Clarabelle turned to her and saw the worry in her eyes, then turned away. “Let’s just be hopeful,” she said softly. A f

CHAPTER 307~3RD PERSON’S POV~Marie and her sisters, Cortana and Yuna, sat inside a large metal dome created by Angela. Angla had created multiple domes like this to accommodate the entire army of Vedantya, and this was because the temperature of the atmosphere has risen to an unbearable level. Daniella used her manipulation of heat to cool down the domes so the occupants wouldn't die of heat stroke. The air around the domes looked like it had been stained with gasoline fumes, and rocks around them had begun melting.Valerie tried again and again to open a portal but failed every single time. The spell that blocked her ability to use spatial magic wasn't very powerful but was somehow too complex for her to undo. It was like the spell reformed itself at light speed every time she broke it, and there was no way of stopping it.“This is bad. If we stay here longer than this, the whole world is going to melt down,” Angela said with worry on her face.“No, we can't give up yet; I'm sure I

Ordinarily, poison wouldn't be enough to kill a witch like you, but depending on how powerful the poison is, it would be enough to weaken you. The souls of the fallen Immortals despise you, Agnes. But as much as they want to escape, as souls, they're not nearly strong enough to go against the spell you put on them. It's just like Sabbath and Mary; without Mary's body, Sabbath can't use his power. So, without Agnes's body, the immortals are weak to her spells. But spells require serious mental concentration and physical reinforcement to hold together, and once those two things weaken, the spell comes apart and the souls of the Immortals have their chance to escape.” Agnes gripped her stomach tightly as she felt an agonizing pain coming up. She bled from her nose and mouth as the souls of all the Immortals began seeping out of her body and flying off. “After the Immor

They walked into the glass building and led Mary to a magical elevator that didn’t require electricity to work. Mary had her guard up, prepared to launch an attack at anyone who tried to annoy her. At this moment, she was already very pissed off, and anyone who tried to attack her now would be walking into their grave. The elevator door closed and started to rise up the building. Everyone was unusually quiet, and none of Mary’s escorts wanted to make eye contact with her. Mary watched them through the glass wall in front of her—they looked like dolls, stiff and lifeless, like they had been programmed to only move when they were given orders. The elevator rose for over tw

It didn't matter what the team did or what amount of power they used; the Asuras just kept coming like an endless sea of stars. The Asuras armor-like skin had become so strong that Edith's blade and Anima Morning Star both broke on impact. The two Immortals had to summon their weapons again and again during the fight just to avoid getting killed. They had to look for a new way to kill these Immortals, and that way was to attack them at points where their armour didn't cover—the gaps in the skin that revealed their glowing orange flesh. Targeting these parts was especially difficult for the werewolves because they didn't have long-range weapons, and getting too close t
