View MoreIt rained heavily the night my parents died.
Up till this day, the events leading to their death remain fresh in my memory. It was a night I would never forget. We had a feast and we invited the Alpha of a neighbor pack, Alpha Demontes. Alpha Demontes was the Alpha of the Black Fur pack, a pack that had been notorious for stealing, raping and killing stray wolves from other packs over the years and I had frowned all through the feast, wondering why my father had decided to invite a man who allowed evil thrive in his pack to our feast. My father, Alpha Michael was the Alpha of our own pack, the Silver Moon pack and he was well known amongst the wolves of the neighboring packs as a strong and free spirited Alpha. He was a blessing to our pack as all through his reign, we grew in strength and numbers and eventually became the strongest pack in the West. When I looked into the dark eyes of Alpha Demontes that night, I knew that he did not have good intentions. There was something benign about the way he smiled when our gazes met and my father noticed that I was not eating.“Seems you don’t like the beef tonight, Salvador ?” my father said to me.My eyes didn’t for a second leave Alpha Demontes’s face and when I spoke, it was with boldness and anger in my voice.“Why is this man at our table, father?” I frowned. “You know what his wolves have been doing to ours in recent years.”My father sighed and tapped his fingers on the table. I knew that he knew the truth about Alpha Demontes and I dared him with my eyes to dispute it but he didn’t say a word. My mum came to the rescue however, chiding me with a little tap on my lap.“You would not speak that way to your father’s guest!” my mum frowned. “One more word like that and you’ll be grounded for the rest of the week.”“Don’t be too harsh on the little boy,” Alpha Demontes smiled at my mum. “He’s doing the right thing, trying to protect his family.”“No,” my mum shook her head. “If he is to become the Alpha one day, he should learn that everything isn’t the way it seems. He should learn when to speak and to be silent, to negotiate, to make peace and to wage wars.”“Fair enough,” Alpha Demontes shrugged and turned to my father. “What do you have to say about it?”I stared at my father’s face under the yellow light from the chandelier hanging above the dinner table. His face looked flushed and I wondered if I had embarrassed him.“Salvador ,” he called.I turned to look at him.“Alpha Demontes has waged war against us and other packs in the past,” my father continued. “But tonight he is our friend. He has agreed to a pact with us which will prevent him from warring against us for the next five years. That is why we have gathered to dine together tonight.”“And what of the other packs?” I frowned. “He’s only making this pact because he knows he can’t beat our warriors.”“Salvador !” My father stood up from the table in anger.“The boy may not be completely wrong,” Alpha Demontes smiled. “If you can’t beat them, don’t join them. Make pacts.”“Enough of the war talk,” my father grunted. “We can talk about that later. For now, let us eat and make merry.”He went back to his food and I looked outside the window at the North end of the table. It was raining in torrents already. I remembered my sand house that I and Antonella, Alpha Demontes’s daughter had spent hours building and I turned to look at her. Our eyes met and we communicated instantly. I had to start eating immediately and finish as soon as possible so that we could go back and save our castle before the rain washed it away. Antonella was eagerly waiting for me, her hazel colored eyes boring into mine, reminding me that our castle was at stake. She had chosen not to eat, claiming she had a minor stomach upset but I knew it was a lie. It was her father, Alpha Demontes that warned her not to eat.I dug my spoon into the heap of green peas and just as I was about to lift it up to my mouth, I heard a low growl.“Don’t eat.”I turned around quickly, wondering who it was that had said those words and my eyes met Alpha Demontes’s. He winked at me and I frowned and went back to my food.“I said don’t eat!” the voice growled again.I looked around quickly. It was pretty loud but from the way everyone else at the table concentrated on their food, it was clear that they were not hearing the voice.“Who are you?” I asked inwardly, not expecting a reply.“Fur,” the voice grunted back in my head.“Fur?” I frowned. “Who are you? And how are you communicating with me? And how is no one else hearing you.”“I’m your wolf,” Fur replied. “You’re the only one that can hear me. Now I repeat, don’t eat that food.”“Okay this is crazy,” I muttered. “I’m talking to a voice in my head and it’s talking back to me. You’re imagining this, Salvador . It’s not real. You watch too much TV.”“Don’t be an idiot!” Fur growled. “If you eat that food, we’ll both die. It’s poisoned.”“Poisoned?” my eyes went wide with shock. “How do you know that?”From the other end of the table, Antonella was staring at me, a confused expression on her face. She was probably wondering why I was staring at my food and acting surprised when no one was talking to me. If only she knew that I was communicating with a voice in my head.“Demontes poisoned the food with the help of one of the kitchen servants,” Fur grunted. “That’s why he’s drinking just the wine, and his daughter, not eating.”I stared up at Alpha Demontes in shock just as he raised the glass of wine to his lip and our eyes met once again. This time, he didn’t wink at me or try anything funny. He stared me down, the way you’d assess an enemy at battle and then I knew it was true. Fur or whoever was in my head was telling the truth.“And why didn’t you tell me this earlier!” I screamed in my head. “My dad! And my mum. They’ve been eating.”“I’m sorry I couldn’t,” Fur murmured. “I’ve been trying to contact you since the dinner began. The first time is always very hard.”“Good heavens!” I exclaimed. My mind was racing. I didn’t know how I was going to prove to my father that he was being poisoned without making another scene at the feast. Luckily for me, he helped me out.“What is the matter, Salvador ?” my father asked.I stood up immediately seizing the chance to tell him everything. “Poison!”“Poison?” he asked staring intently at me.“You’ve been poisoned!” I cried pointing to Alpha Demontes. “He’s the one. My wolf told me.”My father dropped his spoon on the plate silently and my mother stood up immediately.“That’s it, Salvador !” She sounded visibly upset. “To your room, immediately.”I stood up ashamed of myself and as I made my way out of the dinner hall, I heard her cough. I turned around immediately.“Are you okay Mel?” my father asked standing up from the table.“I guess so,” she muttered. But I knew she was not okay. Her face was white and her eyes were red. She coughed again, this time accompanied by a few droplets of blood and my father stared in horror at the blood on the ground. He looked up at Alpha Demontes.“In my own home, Demontes? We agreed that…”He never finished his statement. A silver sword jutted out from his chest and I looked to see who it was. It was Rachel, our butler.“I’m sorry,” she muttered. “I had no choice.”“Get the boy!” Alpha Demontes cried. There was commotion in the dinner hall already. Antonella was crying. My mum was coughing out blood. The guards were running towards me. Fur was barking commands in my ears. But in all, my dying father’s voice was the loudest.“You cannot die.”I didn’t have an idea what it meant but hearing the words “you cannot die” from the most respected Alpha in the West was enough motivation for me to try a few suicidal jumps.I took one last look at my dying father and then I bolted towards the North end of the hall. I ran with all my strength, dodging some of the guards that stood in my way until I got to the window.“Even the gods wouldn’t survive such a fall,” Alpha Demontes sneered.I looked around quickly. The guards were gaining on me. And he was right. There was no way I was going to survive jumping from the window of the tallest building in the West. But it was better than giving him the satisfaction of gutting me.Not sparing a second more to think, I jumped out the window screaming and the next second, everything went blank.ANTONELLA’S POVI thought it was all over when he appeared. Suddenly my life didn’t seem like a mess anymore. The mere glimpse of him had my heart filled with hope again and I felt home in his arms. He was it for me.We were hand in hand when he suddenly stopped and I was made to turn my head around. A supposed dead witch was behind him with a sword she had driven into him. When I rushed to him, I felt like my world was crumbling down. The walls of hope that sprouted in my heart suddenly crashed grinding itself into a fine grain. With the snap of a finger she took it away again. My mind was ringing with pain, I could feel his pain. My heart raced and I could feel an anger I was sure was not mine but his that he was projecting.I waited a while for his wounds to start to heal but nothing happened. I was so focused on him that I had zoned out from everything else going on around me. Like I didn’t have a witch who was hell bent on making a sacrifice out of me.“Don’t bother. He’s not goi
SALVADOR’S POVI spent the whole day searching for the items I needed. It became frustrating by the minute when I couldn’t find the herbs but when I was eventually able too, I pulled it out from its root without thinking too much about it.Danny was dead so I was left to do everything without him. There was no doubt that from the way I was feeling, a hole had been left deep in my heart. I should have been able to take his body with me, to give him a proper burial. I also wanted more than anything to grieve him but time was running out.I was lucky enough to have found the herbs the time that I did. Then I found my way to a safe house the guys and I used to hide in whenever we needed to take a break from a mission. The house didn’t feel like it used to. This time it was unusually colder than normal like the house too knew that Danny was gone.I set the herb and mountain ash aside and searched for my gun. This time I didn’t want to give her any room to escape or even survive. I didn’t a
ANTONELLA’S POVMy hands and feet were bound and so was my father’s. We have had to take a long walk and were brought to the Eastern Province. The land looked dead, like it had been cursed or something. The moment we crossed over into the border, I felt disconnected to my wolf which made me look at my father with questionable eyes.Freya didn’t seem to need her guards anymore since she had us both right where she wanted up – to be weak and have no means of escape whatsoever. The grass that should have been green like the ones close to it were dried to their roots and they were covered in ash. Thankfully my feet weren’t bare.Freya had my father tied a wooden pole where he would have no means to run off or even try to help me.She then walked towards with and pulled on my arm. She walked up to a place on the field that had this massive hole in it.I didn’t know why there was a hole there but I didn’t really care, I just wanted her to let us go. When we got to the edge, I stared at her
SALVADOR’S POVI was sure I looked lifeless. Two days had passed and I held on to my decision about not making Red my Luna. She could take it however she wanted but I didn’t want her in the least of ways. My love for Antonella has hit a point where it was impossible for me to want someone else even if it was just for business which I was sure this was going to be.Red didn’t bother showing up but her men did. For two days she had sent them over to ask of my decision and for two days I sent them back with the same answer refusing. I didn’t know how she planned on keeping us but I was sure I wanted to get out of the holding cell.Danny was in chains to which I was guilty for. It was her way of punishing me for refusing her by letting me watch my best friend in pain.On the third supposed day that Antonella was going to be killed, Red showed up with an angry expression. “I’m surprised that your defiance to make me your Luna doesn’t match one bit with your proclaimed love for Antonella. I
SALVADOR’S POVI hadn’t realised that I had passed out. My eyes fluttered open and I looked around where I was. Beside me was a chained Danny who seemed to be in pain. I looked at my own hands to find that I too was chained to the wall.In front of me with the most annoying smile was Red. She looked as calm as a child about to get a candy from his parent. I hated it.“Oh you’re awake” she chirped with that sickly smile of hers.I yanked at the chain and barred my teeth at her, a growl rumbling in my chest. She was startled for a second even placing a hand on her chest.“Ooh feisty, just the way I like it.” She purred almost making me gag. She pointed at me, and spoke to one of the guards standing with her. “Cut him loose.”He obeyed and did was he was told. I stayed calm as he did even though I was tempted to snap his neck and hers. I wanted to make sure that both Danny and I were lose first before doing anything but she didn’t ask for him to be cut loose.“I’m not going anywhere wit
ANTONELLA’S POVFreya was no longer in the room. She left right after my father agreed and gave her permission for the province. I didn’t know nor understand why she was hell bent on getting on that land but judging from the lengths she was going for it, her plans were no good.I had questions for my father, but my body felt too weak to move much less my mouth forming words. There were also a lot I wanted to say to him. I wanted to read him the, I told you so line just so he could remember that I had warned him about her. There were only three of us left. Myself, bleeding badly and my wounds pulsing, then my father and a guard. The other left with her to goddess knows where. Not that I cared or anything.I could feel my body healing but slower than they should. Maybe it was because I was too weak and so was my wolf.I raised my head with much difficulty and saw my father sharing a look with the guard that was in the same room as we were. It was as though they were communicating and my
SALVADOR’S POV“I’m sorry you want me to what now?” I asked unbelief etching my face. What the fuck kind of crazy was she blabbing about?“I want you to make me your Luna, Alpha King. Agree to that and I won’t just tell you about everything you want to know, I will also help you defeat the witch.” Red answered seductively. If I was any other man, I would have agreed to it since she was a very pretty woman. But the whole reason why I came to her was to save the woman I wanted to make my Luna.“Yeah, that’s not going to happen. I already have someone I want as my Luna, in fact, she’s the reason I need the information from you. You’ll have to think of something else because this isn’t going to work.”To say I was shocked was an understatement. What would make her say such a thing knowing I came here for the woman I loved?“That’s the only way I can help you though. Or don’t you want to kill the wicked witch anymore?”She had a sickly smile that I wanted to smack off her face. I glanced o
ANTONELLA’S POVI was curled on the ground with my head on my knees. My hands were still pressed against my ears trying so hard to shut the voices out. Freya was still humming, a song that she knew I hated. The room had gone back to being dark and I had nowhere to run to.“Poor little Antonella. Look at you, all pathetic now without the help of your father and friends.” Freya sang between hums. This time her voice went back to bouncing on the walls and not in my head.I felt like I could breathe a little bit even though for the most of it, I still needed more air in my lungs. I was still on the floor when I felt things, with tiny legs start to crawl on my skin. I jerked up from that position to a standing one and started to swat around my body. I didn’t know what it was, I couldn’t touch anything, couldn’t feel anything either.“Please make it stop. Please.” I begged with fresh tears streaming down my face. I was certain my face looked swollen from how much I had been crying because m
SALVADOR’S POVBefore Danny and I stood a woman dressed and accessorised in the brightest red I had ever seen. It was everywhere that it was hurtful to the eyes to see. But I couldn’t deny that she had a pretty face and a sexy body. Except for the red she had everywhere, in normal clothes she would be regarded as gorgeous. Red lips, Red Hair, Red everything.“Your King is a woman?” I asked and the man didn’t answer. The whole area became pin drop silent and every one of them bowed.“You said there were two men here to see me.” I heard her say like she didn’t notice the men on her floor. The rogue pointed at us, “These are the Alpha King and his Beta. They requested an audience with you.”He sounded nonchalant and her eyes snapped at him. “You made the fucking Alpha King knee on the ground? Are you dense?” she shrieked. He grabbed onto his neck, her claws prodding out and she looked ready to kill.I winced at how loud she was. How did she even go from being calm to crazy in a second?S
