Melissa
"Never, I'll never marry him. I'd rather die than find myself spending forever with someone like him," I cried for the 100th time. My father wasn't listening to me, he came home that night announcing my marriage to the last person I ever thought of.
I had dreamed of fantasy, happily ever after. Irrespective of how old I was, I still had the stature of a 20 year old kid. I always believed that one day my prince charming would come and sweep me off my feet.
I couldn't believe I was keeping myself for him, I was going to be married to the bastard I had hassled with in the morning.
"Father please," I lowered myself on my knees, begging him, because I knew my life depended on it. "Don't do this, my whole life will be halted. I'm in my final year in school, let me finish in grand style, please."
"Unfortunately Melissa, there's nothing I can do for you. Your fate has been sealed. Tomorrow you get married to the billionaire, Alexander Pierce," he said deadpan and walked out of the room, locking it.
I crawled to my mother, she sat in silence with her face to the floor on her wheelchair.
"Mother please, don't let father give me away. Alexander is a bad man, he's not a good person."
"I'm sorry my dear, I tried speaking to your father when he told me but he mentioned that his company is on the edge of falling out. Apparently Sir Alexander helped him out with some money and demanded your hand in marriage in return. It's just a coincidence, child."
"It's no coincidence mother, he's hellbent on retaliating," I narrated everything that happened that morning to her. She sighed and weeped for my future instead.
I walked into my room with my school bag, hanging lowly on my shoulders, only to find a lovely white wedding dress with a veil hanging in my closet. A box of jewelry sat in my open wardrobe and 2 inch silver colored heels with tiny diamonds on it. It definitely would have cost a fortune.
My teary eyes trailed the embroidery design on the neck and the waistline. The dress was spectacular, my mouth agape at its simplicity.
"Such a beautiful cloth for an unfortunate circumstance," I whispered to myself, reclining on my bed.
I never knew he would take it this far, asking for my hand in marriage just to show me who's boss. I admitted defeat right at that point.
The windows had iron burglaries, there was no way I could run away; running away wasn't even an option. I laid on my bed, trying to come to terms with my new circumstances.

The walk to the aisle felt like I was being led to a slaughterhouse, my slaughterhouse.
I could see him from under the transparent veil I wore, he clothed himself in a navy blue shiny suit and a black shoe, combing his long dark hair back and also complementing his look with the stupid smirk on his lips. I finally reached the end of the line and stood opposite him.
It was a very few gatherings, my parents and the servants and he was just there with Felix.
And also the officiating priest.
My mind wandered far as the priest started talking, all of a sudden I felt my father poke me by the side, giving me a straight face. I looked around and I realized that they were waiting for my response.
The priest repeated his question. "Do you Melissa Dawson take Alexander Pierce to be your lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, for rich and for poor?"
My whole family depended on me, I couldn't fail them at this point. I closed my eyes.
"I do," I answered.
The same question was repeated to him and he answered with so much eagerness.
"You may kiss the bride," the priest announced.
He took a step forward and lifted my veil, he smiled and I could tell that it was genuine. My heart was breaking into 2 and he was smiling, what the fuck was making him happy?
He nibbled on my lips carefully, pushing his tongue in forcefully when he noticed I wouldn't let him go in. His breath tastes like mint, mixed with vodka. I fell into his embrace as he wrapped me from my waist, goosebumps appeared on my skin. This bastard just stole my first kiss.
Seeing it was going far, I bit his lips to stop him. He hissed and looked at me.
"I told you to watch out, cupcake but you thought I was joking, we'll continue this unfinished business at home," he whispered in my ears and I could feel my body shiver from what he said.
The drive home from the wedding reception was quiet, he refused to say a word and I was really glad he kept quiet. My eyes followed every movement from the window, I was trying to process how my life would be from now on, my school was on hold and everything just seemed to be working against me.
Bless heaven, I was quick to send an email to the school, asking for deferment. I explained that there were matters beyond my control and their mail was the first thing I woke up to.
The gates to the house opened and I was lost in its beauty. The aesthetics of the outer part of the house was breathtaking, I marveled at the gold statues who stood at the entrance of the house and also the decorative waterfall in the middle of the compound.
"When you are done drooling, follow me," he said, cutting me off my amusement. I followed him into the inner part of the house, marveling at the inner part as well.
We took the long flight of stairs and finally stopped in one of the rooms. I could tell from the space and the aesthetics, we were in the master bedroom.
"This is my bedroom, which we would be sharing together from henceforth. I have a few rules that you would abide by. First of all, do not talk to my servants except Felix, he is the only one you are allowed to speak with.
Secondly, don't try to cook here, everything is at your disposal. You are my wife, I wouldn't want you to stress yourself," there came the stupid smirk again.
He kept talking and talking, I had zoned out until I heard him say something not resonating with me.
"Sorry, what was that?" I asked again.
"I said strip, you are my wife, it's time to consummate our marriage."
My ears and legs failed me, I fell to the floor. There was no way I was giving this monster my virginity.
MelissaIt's been 6 months in Alexander's home and to me it felt like years. The emotional and mental torture was one I couldn't deal with. Most of the days, I spend them in the room all alone without talking to anyone. My muse had drifted away from me so bad. I was an artist, I loved painting, I love drawing but lately I couldn't find the courage to pick them up again. I had become my own shadow, lost without a direction, without a place to call home.Alexander slept on the other side of the bed, snoring away peacefully. The whole room was illuminated yet I glanced into the darkness right in front of me, praying that I would find a way soon to color myself in it. My right hand unconsciously caressed my tummy. In a span of 6 months, Alexander had me remove my babies, twice. He claimed he wasn't ready for kids now as they would deter him from his goal.I was pregnant again but I couldn't let him know otherwise it would meet the same fate as others."Why are you rubbing your tummy?" His
Alexander`Alex, close your eyes. Don't look at me, don't look at mama. Papa is just angry, I was the one that wronged him.`I jumped up from my sleep, covered in my own sweat, breathing heavily. Deep black bags sought refuge under my eyes, the beautiful shiny gaze my eyes held had become lifeless, like I was staring into oblivion. For months, they had always been that way. I looked up at the wall clock, it was just 3am in the morning. Frustrated, I pushed the covers away from my body and sat upright. It's been 7 years since Melissa left and 7 years since the nightmares came again.Few months after she left, her smell on the sheets helped keep the nightmares away. I always imagined she was right there beside me and it always worked but as soon as the sheets were changed, everything came back to the way it used to be.I walked downstairs to grab a cup of water in the kitchen, I noticed the light was turned on and I wondered who would be awake at that time of the night. I saw Felix sit
Alexander The next day As I sat in the booked car, driving me away from the airport, questions upon questions lingered on my mind. Questions upon questions lingered longer. Will I ever find her? Would she ever want to have anything to do with me? Would she even want to believe that I've really changed? I was ready to do anything just for her to accept me back. Maybe she was my guardian angel after all and I just might have lost her forever. The time read 2pm on my wristwatch, going to the hotel would leave me jobless. I rolled the window down and marveled at the beauty of Carlton, it has really been a long time since I stayed away. My conscience kept poking me but I decided to not pay attention to it. "Take me somewhere nice," I said to the driver. "I don't want to go to the hotel yet." "Yes sir," he said, changing the route he was taking. My attention was diverted to my phone, an unknown number was calling. I picked up at the second ring, curious on who it could be. "Yes, who
Alexander I watched the kids as they ran towards the woman who called them. She was dark in complexion, stood at an average height with brown colored hair. Seeing that the kids were safe and under an adult's care, I walked back to the car. I was glad that very few people could recognize me. "Let's go to the hotel, I could use a really good sleep right now." At the mention of the good sleep, it sounded like a joke even to myself. Remembering what I battled with, it seemed like the nightmares were waiting for me to just close my eyes, irrespective of the time and day. I sent the detailed description of where I was staying and what time I'd like Cindy to come. It's been years since I laid with a woman, let's hope that I won't mess things up. Getting to the hotel, I grabbed the room keys from the receptionist and entered the elevator, leading to the vvips suite. The aesthetics in the room were really befitting and inviting. I dropped my suitcase and the little bag I came with on the
Alexander I dressed in a navy blue suit, my silky black hair was combed back. I complimented my dressing with a black shoe, making me look smart and presentable. I fetched my suitcase and arranged my things in it; my phones, jotter, a pen and my cheque book. I was so sure I'd be making a lot of donations there today. My wristwatch made a chime, notifying me of the time. The driver must be down, waiting for me. I checked out of the hotel with my things and dropped the keys at the reception. "Morning sir," the driver approached me with a smile, reaching for my bag and my suitcase. "You know my schedule this morning, right?" "Yes sir, I've been briefed," he responded, bowing slightly. "Good, let's go." The drive to Carlton's College of Art was roughly a 30 minutes drive from the hotel. I saw the driveway filled with cars of prestigious people and students flocking around. Instantly I concluded that it was a big event. The car was ushered into a private packing space. I stepped o
Melissa My heart swelled with joy knowing how rough the past few years have been. Standing in front of thousands at the annual conference was a dream come true for me. Immediately the director gave his little speech and welcomed me to the stage, I was elated. The students made it more resounding when they roared with joy when my name was called. I found my way to the stage in style, swaying my hips gently from one end to the other. My 3 inch heels made pointy noises on the tiled floor. I was clothed in a green tight dress, just stopping below my knees. The past few years, I had become confident of my own figure but past traumas made me steer clear from men. I reclined gently to the length of the microphone, speaking into it. The spotlight was fixed on me and it felt like I was on top of the world. For that moment, I felt free. "Oh wow, thank you so much. I had no idea I was a fan of many," I said, earning approvals and laughs from students in the hall. I gave my acknowledgements
Alexander My mouth wide open agape, my gaze stuck to her back view like a glue, following each and every step she took out. It was hastened, like she despised my presence so much and being around me was poison for her. I was coming back to Melissa's issue, first of all, I needed to deal with this new tick I just found myself. I suddenly seized her by the arm, adding more pressure into my hold on her. "What are you doing here, Cindy?" My words came out between gritted teeths. She winced, her eyes going back and forth, from my hand to my hardened gaze. She tried to free herself from my hold. "You are hurting me," she cried out but I could care less. "I'll do more than that if you do not stay out of my life. You are a hooker, stick to that title of yours and never come after me." My hold relaxed on her suddenly and she sank terribly into one of the seats behind her. I straightened my suit and started to walk out, without waiting to hear another word from her. "I love you Alexand
Melissa It was God's grace that hasn't allowed me to punch the living life out of this man talking to me. Everything about men, trying to woo me pissed me off, I didn't want to hear any endearing word of any kind. I kept forcing out laughter and faked smiles of different kinds so he wouldn't get the impression of me not being interested. His lips curled into a smile and he came forward to touch me. "So what do you say about going out on Friday night?" I shifted uncomfortably, letting out an awkward smile. "I'll think about it and give you feedback, Fred." "My name's Francis, not Fred. This is the second time you are getting it wrong," he said. "I'm sorry," sincerely, I was sorry. I didn't really do well with names. The corner of my right eye happened to catch the sight of a tall dark man walking towards me in gentle strides. His hands were deep rooted in his pocket as he walked graciously towards me. I couldn't give him the impression that I was single. Without a single proces
AlexanderI had the biggest round table made yesterday, with so many chairs. We wanted a large family meal with everyone we had come in contact with that year except the people who were behind bars. Mrs Dawson was closest to us, so I had her picked up myself. Janet, Maddy, Sally, Jayson, Andrew; were all invited from Carlton. I had my private jet go pick them up. It was a very beautiful sight. The chefs cooked exotic meals and everyone looked forward to eating together.Knowing the table wouldn't be able to get inside, we placed it under the tree in my yard. Everyone got to get a room to themselves and even though the house was rowdy and noisy, it still made a lot of sense.“The table is ready and being set, come on out everyone,” the kids ran around the house, bellowing this information.Everyone trooped out of their rooms, laughing and talking with one another. One by one, we sat at the table and the empty chairs were moved away by the staff.I stood up, raising a glass cup and a for
AlexanderEverything was starting to happen the way I wanted it to be. A very big happy loving family, with no issues or any form of bad blood amongst us. Yet I still dreamed of doing one beautiful thing, getting married to Melissa properly. I had asked for her hand in marriage again from her parents and they had given me their full support. Deep down I know that Melissa would love to start afresh with me again but I just wanted her to know some disturbing things from my life.I admired the diamond ring I got for her the day before yesterday. I had solely made sure that was all I did yesterday—find a wedding ring that is befitting for my woman. My ears caught the whiff of footsteps and I quickly hid the ring case. She sank into the bed beside me, rubbing my face. “Hey Alexander Pierce, I've been looking for you all over the house. Are you sure you are fine?”“Of course,” I gave a small smile. I didn't have the courage to look her in the eyes and she noticed it. To her, it might feel l
BreeA bowl of popcorn sat graciously on the table as we munched on it. Myself and the trio were binging a popular TV series. The remote was yanked from Albert's hand as he was the one controlling everything.“Hey,” he turned around screaming, he toned down his voice immediately he saw who got the remote from him.“Excuse us,” Alexander sat with Melissa beside me. Lady Selene walked in with Sir Carlos and just like that the kids found their way inside. It was a suspicious gathering. I looked from left to right but all their attention was on the TV. “I think I'll go inside with my buddies too,” I said, standing up.“No sir down Bree, you are needed here. Not with them,” Alexander said. Reluctantly, I sat. “Well, will someone be kind enough to explain the sudden strictness on your faces and the gathering?”He tuned the TV set from one station to another and he finally settled for one. It was a news channel, James and Melissa's foster father were being sent to jail.Judge: “James Talon
BreeIt's been 3 days since I last went to the police station. Alexander and Melissa were back home and everything and everywhere has been lively—back to how it used to be. I was still sulking about my visit, I was hating myself for it. The more I thought about it, the angrier I became with myself. I locked myself in my room, not letting anyone see me or talk to me. Aiden was smart enough to know that I didn't want to be seen so he always delivered my food through the space under the door. Everyone tried to talk to me but I wasn't letting them in.As usual that day, I sat in my bed, moping into space, still in my current situation before I heard the impossible.“Please break this door down, it's my house. I have a lot of them and I'll just have this repaired instead if everyone chose to stay here.I didn't believe what I heard. A few strikes at the locks and the door was forced open. I maintained my position and didn't move an inch.Melissa ran forward first, hugging me without mindi
BreeWith a black hoodie over my head, hiding the plasters that were still on my face, I snuck out of the house to the main road. Boarding a taxi to the police station, I was just so grateful that Melissa and Alexander weren't back from their trip. The kids and Lady Selene are today, sleeping I guess. That can only explain why the house was extremely silent before I left.No matter how much I tried to take my mind off it, I just wanted to see him. The man that called himself my biological father, the man that killed my mother just because he envied a set of people with generational wealth.“Hi good morning,” I greeted the first officer I came in contact with. “I'm here to see James Talon.”“Please sign here while I bring him out for you,” he pushed the visitor's signing book to me. “What's your name?”“Bree.”“Bree what?”I didn't know which one was appropriate. Whether to say Bree Thatcher or Bree Talon, none of them was settling right with me at the moment.“Just say Bree,” I half s
Melissa With the car seat lowered to the back, I desperately sought sleep. Alexander and I were home alone with the staff, we refused to sleep on time and played around like kids till the early hours of the morning. I wondered how he got up so early without a trace of sleep on his face, I guess work had made him get accustomed to it.I felt a hand on my face, pinching my nose and my ears. In a sleepy voice, I begged.“Oh God Alexander, let me have a little nap before we get to our destination, please,” I begged.“That isn't going to work on me,” he taunted. “Remember you wanted to play last night and I indulged you. You forget the fact that I'm a businessman and I'm used to staying awake.”I flung my hands out tiredly, signifying my surrender. “Oh the mighty Alexander, I give up. Let thy maiden enjoy her beauty sleep.”He chuckled, finally considered my request and let me be, diverting all his attention to the road. I heard him start rhyming with some words.“Wake up Melissa, we are
MelissaI sat behind the other side of the glass with a straight face, waiting for the person I was supposed to meet. Immediately she came and found her seat, I picked up the phone.“Heard you left Carlton with your family, did you come to see me because you miss me? Didn't hubby come along with you?”“I can see that your intel is still as good as ever. Even while in prison you have information about the outside world,” I said. “Your genital meet and greet business really proved useful.”She wasn't expecting me to get back to her that way, her face was riddled with shame and pain.“Ouch, I think I took it too far. My apologies, I didn't come here for that.”She sighed. “No need to beat around the bush, tell me why are you here?”“To let you know that I hold no grudges against you. You did what you had to because you were in love with my husband. Apologies, scratch that. You were obsessed with my husband Alexander Pierce. You let yourself be controlled by a man who didn't even mean wel
Melissa“Are you sure you want to do this mother?” All of a sudden I wondered why she wanted to see her husband. But I guess it was a fair thing to ask for.“Yes Melissa, I want to see him,” she smiled. “I missed him so much. Even though we would see some place where I can't touch him or hold him, I still want to see his beautiful face. He's everything to me.”I didn't understand what was going on in her head, even if I tried.“Mother, he sent you to a nursing home by himself, do you remember that at all?” I said, trying to make my point. “He left you alone.”Without any argument, still with a calm face and voice, she said. “I know that, I know exactly what he did to me. But he's the love of my life, he’s everything I have and everything I've always had. So if I throw it all away because I'm mad at him for throwing me in a nursing home, then I'll be miserable for the rest of my life. Besides I met beautiful people there, beautiful people who made the days I spent there. It's not like
MelissaAs we got closer to the hospital, I brought out my phone and saw that I had missed several calls from Lady Selene. “Alex, let me see your phone,” with his eyes still on the road, he brought it out and handed it over to me.“What's the problem? Is everything good?”“We've missed Lady Selene's call, multiple times,” I said. “I hope she doesn't break our head as soon as we get there.”“Maybe she missed us.”I rolled my eyes at him. “You flatter yourself too much Mr.”The first person to welcome us as soon as we walked the corridors of the hospital was Lady Selene. Her face radiated so much joy and happiness.“Where have you guys been? I've been calling your phones all day. Bree is awake and she's fine,” she jumped into Alexander's arms. “And the kids?”“You know as usual, bombarding her with so many things that had happened while she wasn't awake,” she said, so casually.I hurried into her ward with Mara in front of me. “She should be resting, no one is allowed to disturb her,
