RAVENNA
Have you ever felt your world crumbling around you while you remained numb inside? Unfeeling. That was how I felt as I watched our house burn. All my childhood memories went up in smoke, but most importantly, my parents.
They were inside the house as it burned. The normal reaction of kids who watched such loss in front of them was to kick and scream, trying to get into house, right?
Well, maybe it wasn't. Because I didn't do any of that. Or maybe I was the one with the fucked up head. Just a few hours ago, I was eating pizza with my parents in the kitchen while my father complained about me not telling him how much I loved him every day as I always did my mom.
I had just laughed in his face and told him he was just jealous and that I was a mama's girl. His response played in my head.
"Mama's girl my foot. Keep gravitating towards your mother, but there'll be a day you'll want me to hug you and kiss you and tell you how much I love you, but I won't be there. Let's see if mama can fill that void," he had said. "You'll be crying and regretting all those times you didn't tell me you loved me."
Now, I had neither of them, and the part that hurt the most was that he had been right. I would give just about anything to have his arms around me right now while he told me everything was going to be okay. Even though I spent most of my time with my mom, I still loved my father dearly, and the saddest part was that I didn't tell him while he was alive.
That broke through my numbness and I broke into a loud cry. I felt the woman who was like a second mother to me wrap her arms around me as she consoled me. My dog that we had taken on a walk seemed to sense the grief in the air, because he sat on his hind limbs, letting out a whimper.
All of a sudden, Nana's phone beeped in her pocket. "It's a message from your father," she informed me making hope spark within me. "The text says we have to get out of here because it's not safe. It also says that we shouldn't try to save them because he's typing this message with the very last of his breath. Lastly, he says he and your mother love you."
I broke into fresh tears, crumpling to the floor beside my dog. Nana pulled me up with one hand using the other to grab Razor's leash. "We need to get out of here, Mio caro. For your parents' sakes. I've called the ambulance and fire department. They'll be here soon."
In my daze, I hadn't even noticed. "What about their funeral?"
"I'll call your father's relatives. They'll do something about it. We have to ditch the phone after the call, but first, we need to get out of here. I promised your parents to always take care of you. I'm not about to fail them now."
I nodded, sniffling as more tears poured out. I had to survive, if not for anything, but my parents and Nana. Acting like a spoiled princess wasn't going to do me any good. I had to toughen up.
So without a backward glance, I walked away from my childhood home, clutching my pendant. It was the only thing of my parents that I had with me, and I wasn't going to lose it, I promised myself and my parents.
RAVENNAI stared out the window, taking in the shitty view of the neighborhood we lived in. Like always, we would have to leave here again before we became a familiar face with the neighbors, although the chances of that happening were slim because the advantage of living in a shitty apartment were the neighbors that didn't give a fuck if their neighbor was a criminal or not. They didn't care if said neighbor kept late nights and only came home at the crack of dawn sometimes looking all bashed up. I wasn't a criminal per se. I drove criminals, but sometimes you had to take a little beating here or there as a part of the job. The cops would probably label me a criminal, but who gave a fuck? Certainly not me. The cops had failed us at the time we needed them the most and I would be a fool to put my hope in them ever again. My phone beeped in the pocket of my jeans and I fished it out. It was a message from Drake. He usually booked me the jobs. Drake: 7 PM. Don't be
RAVENNA ~~~~~~~I pulled up in front of the warehouse Drake gave me the directions to before sending a text to my clients for the night and pulling a ski mask down my face. The stars of the night were robbing a rich man's house and if we didn't all want to end up with our ass behind bars, we had to play it smart and according to the plan. Even though it was a risky plan, it was worth it because I got a cut out of the job. The money would take care of our food bills for a couple of months so I wasn't complaining even though the guys took their sweet time coming out. They came out wearing a black getup with a ski mask. In total, they were four. Three piled up in the back seat while the last one slid into the front. "So here's the deal. You spend longer than fifteen minutes in there, I'm leaving all of your ass in there," I said without preamble. "We good?" "Good," the one in the passenger seat growled as I took off down the road. "What's your name, pretty girl?"
RAVENNA ~~~~~~~~"You bloody cocksuckers! Come on out. Come out here and take me on. Stop acting like pussies and face me!" I yelled as tugged against the ropes that had me tied to a chair. To say I was having a shitty night wasn't an understatement. The consistent drip-drip sound of water irritated me to no end. 'So much for getting fucked on a car tonight,' I thought as I remembered Drake's promise. Speaking of Drake, I wonder if he was worried about me. Was he looking for me? And my Nana? Fuck! She was probably pacing around now even though I had clearly told her not to wait for up for me. Thinking of her made panic rip through me. I couldn't die now. I was the only family she had left. It would kill her if she lost me. "Where the fuck are you pussies?!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. They had me locked in a basement and I've been awake for a while now, yet they refused to come down here. Suddenly I heard the sounds of locks sliding open as I strugg
RAVENNA ~~~~~~~"Fuck, Raven, you scared the hell out of me," Drake said pulling me into his arms immediately I got out of the car. "Where the fuck have you been?" "Long story. I just called Nana and I told her to go to sleep 'cause I won't be able to go home," I replied, wrapping my legs around him as he carried up the stairs to his apartment. "Tell me everything," he said after he had sat down on a couch with me straddling him. I explained everything to him starting from how smoothly everything had gone to getting kidnapped, getting tied to a basement, finding out the truth about my parents, and the new role I had to play. "It's a lot of things to absorb in one night." "Want me to draw up a bath for you?" He asked softly. I shook my head. "I'll just take a shower and crash." "Shower it is then." He carried me to his master bedroom, pulling open the door to his bathroom. He set me on the floor, helping me strip out of my clothes before taking
VALENTINO ~~~~~~~~♧♧♧♧♧♧"Yes, baby. Right there. Harder," I heard as I pushed open the door to my brother's room. "Downstairs in five minutes," I said to him as the girl scrambled to cover herself at my intrusion. Turning around, I walked down the stairs to go wait in the living room. Minutes later, Ciro was walking into the living room with a pair of sweatpants on. "I hope this is important because I have an unsatisfied woman upstairs." "I don't know what to call you, but stupid is definitely on that list. How can you leave her all by herself in your room? Do you know if she was sent here to take something important from you?""That would be possible if I had something important upstairs. All my important stuff isn't here. I just come here to crash." Ciro dropped down on a couch. "What's up?" "She's back." "Who?" "Ravenna," I said. Ciro looked surprised. Welcome to the club, little brother. I never expected to ever see her again. "
RAVENNA ~~~~~~~~~♤♤♤♤♤"So, you want our help?" The woman I had learned was called Gina asked."Yes," Uncle Leo replied. "I understand that it won't be easy for Ravenna because she's a woman -- no offense on that though -- and the other heads will not quite accept her. I do not put it past them to not stage attacks just to eliminate her.""So, you need us as mercenaries incase there's an attack," Gina summed up with a smile. "I quite like the sound of a female ruler. Those assholes think women are not worthy to sit on any throne.""So, will you help us? I know you have the means.""I will. You should know by now that I'd do anything to help my fellow woman, but with all the ammo I'll need to get, it'll cost money," Gina said."Name the price and you'll get it."Gina's lips splitted with a smile. "I'll send you the bill when we need the money. For now, you
VALENTINO ~~~~~~~~~~~♧♧♧♧♧♧"It's quite stupid of him if you ask me. Who lets their niece in power when they've been having a smooth ride being the leader?" Fiore scoffed before throwing back some more whiskey. 'An unselfish man who cares about his brother's child and what he would've wanted had he been alive,' I thought, but I refrained from saying so out loud. "Let me tell you something boy, this is a big disaster that Leonardo is bringing to his doorstep. A woman as the leader? What made him think we would accept her?" My father was a man that saw women as commodity and nothing else. He didn't think women were fit to rule. To him their only responsibility was making sure the kids were fed and taken care of. "Only men are fit to rule. Putting power over strong men in the hands of a little girl? Soon, Leonardo will be paying for this." I tuned him out after that.
VALENTINO ~~~~~~~~~~♧♧♧♧♧♧"Do you know who that was?" Ciro asked as he barged into the office once again."Who are you talking about?" I asked, turning away from the glass wall to face him."One of those girls. It was Ravenna," he replied. No matter how much I had told myself she didn't matter anymore, had prepared to remain indifferent to news relating to her, my chest still did a tiny pang, but I fought to keep my face expressionless and tone indifferent as I said, "Okay."Ciro's mouth dropped open in disbelief. "Okay? O-fucking-kay? What's up with you two? I asked if she wanted to see, but she declined. You guys used to be inseparable. Remember the time you bought a..."I slammed my hand down on my desk. "Stop. Don't piss me off. We grew the fuck up, that's what happened. I suggest you do. Living in the past will do you no good. Ravenna and us, we're on different fucki
