Rejection

Lizette’s P.O.V.

“A mistake?”

My heart forgot to beat for a moment as my mate chewed his words hatefully, sending shivers down my spine. Alpha spoke out of the blue,

“I, Brandon Cameron, Alpha of the Silver Claw Pack, reject you, Gamma Lizette Bancroft, as my mate and the future Luna of the pack.”

A volcano of hatred rumbled as its molten lava burned my soul, throbbing my heart with the pain of a thousand arrows piercing it. This rejection was like being struck by lightning on a clear, sunny day, crumbling down my world around me.

My friend, my secret crush, and my mate had rejected me on a whim, how could he just do it to me?

Suppressing my shrieks, I stumbled over my words to ask,

“W-why? How can you reject me, Brandon?”

Alpha was taken aback by this query, as if he wasn’t expecting it after his rash decision.

“It’s obvious, Liz. How can an abomination like you can be my Luna?”

Although his harsh words had initiated the process of rejection, he kept his Alpha demeanor intact, belittling me heartlessly.

“My Luna position isn’t a joke, Liz. I need a strong she-wolf with outstanding qualities to share my responsibilities.

And you can’t even protect yourself from school bullies!”

His razor-sharp tone plunged a blunt knife in my heart, tearing me apart. I was ridiculed daily for my weakness, but these demeaning words from Brandon weren’t a part of my wildest nightmares.

Brandon, my love, was the most important person in my life. From arranging his parties to doing his assignments, I had done everything in my power to stay in his good books.

But what did he do? Severed the sacred threads of mate-bond?

Alpha had a list of my shortcomings to support his notion, his desperate voice was laden with frustration.

“You are a taint on the name of the Bancroft family, even your dad has kicked you out of his villa. There’s not a chance in hell that you can be a good mate, Liz!”

This mortification hit me like a raging tornado, destroying everything in its wake. Blinking my eyes rapidly, I pushed back my tears as it dawned on me,

“Brandon will never accept me as his mate!”

The realization of the future of our mate-bond sank my heart, I tried to save my face and spoke bravely.

“You are right, Alpha. Let’s end it for good!”

“No!” Onyx howled painfully and kept begging, but the look of great satisfaction on Brandon’s face put a stamp on my decision.

“I, Gamma Lizette Bancroft, accept your rejection, Alpha Brandon Cameron.”

Amidst the excruciating pain and Onyx’s howls, I spun on my heels sharply. The sudden burst of adrenaline rush had activated my flee mode.

However, I heard Brandon from behind,

“We are still good friends, Liz. This rejection will never affect our relationship!”

It was the Moon Goddess’s grace that my rejection happened in a secluded place, saving me from public humiliation. I snuck out of the academy and sprinted into the deep forest, a place to hide my sorry self.

After expulsion from my home, I was living in my dorm, my mom was helping me with my expenses. She was a doctor in the pack hospital, her workplace was my ultimate destination. She would understand my condition for sure.

To avoid others’ scornful gazes, I climbed a tree beside my mom’s room and jumped inside. Thankfully, it was empty.

“Why?”

My limp body crashed on the floor as my legs refused to bear my weight anymore, “Why is it always me, the Moon Goddess?”

The cruel words of abomination from my mate had slapped me hard across my face, degrading me to the level of an omega.

Onyx whimpered, crying her eyes out, “We have tried our best to win our mate’s heart. Then what went wrong?”

I simply wished to jump before a truck and be crushed by it, the excruciating pain in every inch of my body was tearing my flesh from my bones. I would have stopped breathing if my mom hadn’t come to see me in time.

“What happened, Liz?”

My misty vision blurred her face, but still, I could feel the worry in my mom’s voice. She helped me up to sit on a chair and rushed to attend to me.

“You are burning with fever, Liz.”

She panicked to see my tears and examined me thoroughly, gasping in disbelief.

“Oh, my Goddess. You are showing signs of rejection, Liz.”

Her simple words shattered my brave façade, I cried out,

“He rejected me, mom!”

She gave me an injection and then hugged me; her warm embrace soothed my aching soul. Her motherly love was evident in her soft tone as my mom questioned me.

“Tell me, who is he? Do I know him?”

I couldn’t bear to speak Brandon’s name and cried silently; the pain of rejection had rendered me speechless. Worrying about my deteriorating condition, my mom comforted me.

“You don’t want to say it, it’s fine.

Let it go, Liz. I believe there’ll be someone better than him who’ll love you.”

“No, mom!”

Until now, she had filled my head with the hopes of a loving mate. It helped me to keep up with relentless bullying, but not anymore. My mate’s heartless rejection had deserted my life.

“No one will ever love me, mom!”

My mom kissed my forehead, her voice trembled as she advised me.

“Look dear, sometimes things just don’t go as we want. It’s his great loss to reject you, and trust me, he’ll regret it.

The day of the Annual Mating Ball is around the corner. The Moon Goddess will surely bless you with your soulmate."
