Chapter Thirty-six

We were running urgently, our palms clasped together and fingers intertwined. Our date had enthralled us both in a capsule of fleeting punctuality. We were only concerned with each other and time became an abstract concept. Physical touch and delightful conversation kept us intertwined. Just as I questioned Alex about his student elective activities, the bulb in his head flickered and he recalled our compulsory assembly.

I suggested that he leave me behind and proceed forward as I knew I would slow him down. He dismissed my offer mid-sentence whisked the picnic basket in one hand and tucked the blanket tightly against his underarm. On the other, his hand magnetized towards mine and we rushed off.

"I'm going to get so much shit for being late," the hurried arranging of ourselves and our slight dampness from our swim left us disheveled in appearance. My hair was still damp with occasional droplets of water trickling down to my neckline.
