Ruth POV

I walked into the hotel, ready to tackle another day of work. The familiar scent of fresh flowers and polished marble greeted me, and I smiled, feeling a sense of comfort. I loved my job as a receptionist, and I took pride in being one of the friendliest faces guests saw when they arrived.

As I clocked in and made my way to the reception desk, I noticed a colleague, Rachel, hovering around the coffee machine. She caught my eye and beckoned me over.

"Ruth, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked, her voice low and conspiratorial.

I raised an eyebrow, wondering what she wanted to say. "What's up?" I asked, pouring myself a cup of coffee.

Rachel glanced around the lobby, making sure no one was listening. "I just found out something interesting," she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You know Alex, the guy you're always hanging out with?"

I nodded, feeling a sense of trepidation. Where was this going?
