FOURTY SIX

Vincent's POV

Sandra and John exchanged a wary glance, but I could tell they knew they needed my help. I was the only one who knew these woods well enough to track Ruth down.

"Fine," Sandra said finally. "But if we find her, you have to promise to stay back. We don't know what kind of state she's in."

I nodded, my heart racing with anticipation. "I promise. I just want to make sure she's safe."

John nodded, and together the three of us set off, following the scent of Ruth through the forest.

As we walked, I couldn't help but think about what Rebecca had said. Was I still in love with Ruth? I didn't know. All I knew was that I had to find her.

The sun began to set, casting long shadows across the forest floor. I could feel the tension building between us, the air thick with unspoken words.

Suddenly, Sandra stopped, her head cocked to the side. "Do you hear that?" she whispered.
