Willow Baker POV
After adverting disaster with Sheila and Rickey, though they didn't seem too pleased with me, we had a somewhat pleasant evening. There wasn't much to talk about or anything to do really. The people here hadn't exactly provided us with anything to entertain ourselves with.
It was still nice to bask in the presence of people I knew before they were forced back to their rooms by the knights and servants posted outside the door.
I hadn't even known they were there, though it should have been obvious from the beginning that Sheila and Rickey couldn't be allowed to walk around unsupervised, especially after what Rickey did.
The next few days followed the same repetitive schedule of waking up, caring for Asa, having breakfast, caring for Asa, maybe exploring, caring for Asa, having lunch, caring for Asa, staying in my room, caring for Asa, having dinner, caring for Asa, and going to bed.
Willow Baker POVIf it weren't for the servants "helping" me get into the dress given to me in preparation for the meal with the Grand Duke, I would be pacing back and forth in panic. This was the Grand Duke, Maverick's father, after all. I had no idea how I was supposed to act in his presence. My original plan had not accounted for this. In my previous life, the current Grand Duke was no longer an issue. I wasn't sure what happened to him or the Grand Duchess, but that didn't matter right now. What mattered was that in a few minutes I was going to be eating in the same room as him and had to make a good impression. I couldn't afford to upset or anger him in any way.It didn't matter that Maverick agreed to help me if his father put his foot down. As the Grand Duke, his word was law, and Maverick would have no choice but to obey.'Calm down. Getting worked up over what ifs isn't going to help a
Willow Baker POVUnder the intense stares, I took the only seat available, which was next to Maverick, and remained silent, waiting for one of them to talk first. Asa, on the other hand, had no problem babbling away as she reached out for Maverick. Hesitantly, I held her close, despite how she babbled unhappily at being denied. While I knew this was the first time in a long time since she'd seen her father, the current situation wasn't one where I could happily hand her over to her father. At least not with how intensely everyone was looking at me.'Awkward much. Why isn't anyone saying anything?'"I have no clue, but it would be nice if someone would start talking and get this over with.'No one said a word as our meal was brought to us. Everything looked delicious, but my stomach rebelled at the thought. How was I supposed to eat in such a stressful situation?
Maverick Peterson POVI slammed my fist against the table, jostling the contents of our meal. Fortunately, nothing spilled, though it had been close, but that wasn't what occupied my mind. Rather, my focus was on Willow, who fell silent and held a hand against her head as her face pinched in confusion. I wasn't the only one.My mother and brother had grim expressions as they turned their gaze from Willow to my father. On the other hand, my father didn't seem at all perturbed by the attention. Instead, his focus was solely on Willow.Asa glared back as she babbled away. Her intelligence was remarkable for an infant that hadn't reached six months. She had deduced what had actually happened and was upset over it, as she should be.The use of magic on family members outside of healing or helping was something looked down upon, yet my father dared to use his magic to compel Willow to give him the answers he was lo
Willow Baker POVMy mind was still reeling after leaving the dinner with Maverick, who had insisted on speaking with me privately. Asa happily babbled in her father's arms, leaving me with nothing to occupy my hands or distract me from my thoughts.I wasn't sure what had just happened, but with how everyone was reacting, it couldn't be anything good. One moment I had been spilling my guts for no reason, and the next I had been surrounded by unhappy demon blooded werewolves. It wasn't much to go on since everyone around me had demon blood, but I hazarded a guess that it was a demon thing.Demon magic was said to do incredible things, so it wasn't a jump to believe that the Grand Duke had used his magic to compel me to answer his questions, which explained my inability to keep my mouth shut. What I didn't understand was everyone's reaction to it. If I had such an ability, I would use it all the time,
Willow Baker POVIt was exactly as I had suspected. He was here to tell me that the marriage wasn't going to happen and kick me out while keeping Asa in his care.My hands curled into fists in my lap underneath the table, and I bit the inside of my cheek. I made sure to keep my thoughts out of my expression so it wouldn't be obvious that I knew what he was planning to say. Even if I didn't like what was going to happen, I wanted to hear it coming straight from his mouth.I silently cursed my powerlessness. Even after being given this second chance by the Moon Goddess, I still couldn't accomplish anything. It was a waste on her part, and I didn't know why she even bothered to give me this second chance, no matter how grateful I was."I currently have the papers in my office, but I wanted to go over the details with you before we go through with this plan," he said.Caught off guard, all I could do w
Willow Baker POVThe two of us stared at each other in shock. I hadn't talked disrespectfully to him since I arrived there. If I had any ill thoughts, I had kept it shut in my mind. After all, I was reliant on his hospitality. Offending the one person who could decide what would happen to me and the people I care about was the dumbest thing I could do.'Yet you did it anyway.''I'm so screwed.'What was I supposed to do in this situation? Should I apologize? It had already been several minutes since I had shouted at him. I wasn't sure if it was too late for me to apologize now or if I should just wait for him to react. If I waited for him to react, though, he might get angry that I didn't apologize to him.His next words stopped my train of thought. "It seems that it really bothered you."Unsure how to react, I remained silent and waited for him to continue.
Maverick Peterson POV'That went well.'Instead of responding to Shadow, I combed through my hair with one hand as I headed for my father's office. I hoped my father would give me answers to what he was thinking at dinner so I could put Willow's concerns to rest. It would be problematic if she decided to take things into her own hands.'If she tries something like what she did at the border, it will make a huge mess.''I kind of want to see that happen, not going to lie. Seeing her act submissive is wrong.'I felt the same, though I didn't voice this to Shadow. Given everything that I had presumed happened to her, I had expected she would be less trusting and more aggressive, violent, and relentless. The former was still true, but for the latter, it was strangely absent. I had only seen her act out twice, with one of them occurring before she had realized who I
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterI wasn't sure if it was my imagination, but it felt like Maverick was walking on eggshells around me. He didn't exactly act differently or say anything that would hint at that. It was just my gut instinct telling me something had changed after the disastrous dinner.'I'm pretty sure it's not just you.'It was reassuring to have at least one person think the same as me, even if it was just my wolf. I ignored how she barked in displeasure in the back of my mind as I listened to the Grand Duchess and Sheila argue over a certain detail. After I had revealed to Sheila what I had discussed with Maverick regarding the marriage, she immediately demanded to be part of the conversation. She hadn't liked how there wasn't going to be any wedding and wanted to know what Maverick was thinking. When I had looked to Rickey for help, he sided
Hello everyone. I just want to thank all my readers, especially those who have been following until the end. It's been a long journey. In fact, I believe this book, from start to finish, took almost 7 months, which is a long time. Again, I'm grateful to have all of you. Now, onto what I intend to do next. I have several ideas, but currently I hope to start on Asa Peterson's story. It's going to be about Willow and Maverick's daughter, but with a twist.Instead of being a direct sequel to Luna's Revenge: Willow Baker's Marriage Request, it follows the first life after Willow dies and basically runs almost parallel with it. As such, there might be some spoilers, but it's not required to read both books. They're both standalones.I really hope to get this story off the ground. However, I do have other stories so we'll see how everything works out.Anyway, thank you all again for reaching the end with me. I hope that you all continue following me and have a great day.
Willow Baker POV A Year Later "Willow, are you ready?" Sheila asked as she, Maverick's mother, and Diana stepped into the room. As I stared at the woman in the mirror, I immediately said, "No." My arms shook as I said, "I really can't do this." "What's wrong?" she asked as she immediately rushed over to me. "I don't think I'm ready to get married," I said as I whirled around in my wedding dress. "Willow," Maverick's mother said as she took my hand. "You've already been part of the family for more than three years. We're only making sure you get the wedding you deserve." 'I can't believe I agreed to go along with this crazy idea. Why do we need to have a wedding when we're already husband and wife?' 'I don't have a clue either. You're the one who agreed to it when Maverick asked to marry you, and he even gave you a chance to back out.' I still had mixed feelings when I recalled that incident. It still boggled my mind that he had asked to marry me when we were already married, a
Willow Baker POV"Yes?" I squeaked.I mean, we were married, so I wasn't sure what he was talking about. However, instead of explaining himself, he smiled brightly at me. His smile blinded me and left me in a daze as he slipped the ring onto my finger.Feeling the metal on my finger, I quickly said, "Wait. What's going on?"His smile dropped as he said, "I proposed. Did you not want to marry me?""That's not what I meant," I said as I held both my hands up. "I mean, aren't we already married?""We are, but I want us to be properly married," he said as he stood up. "All we did was sign some papers and file them to formalize our marriage. I want us to have a wedding. It doesn't have to be big. It can just be us and our families or j
Willow Baker POVA Year LaterStaring up at the night sky, I smiled as I held Maverick's hand. I had used to be embarrassed about holding his hand, but now I found myself reaching out to him whenever I can."It's nice out," I said as we continued to walk through the garden. The only sounds were the sounds of the wind and whatever animals were out and about. Basking in the peaceful atmosphere, I still found it hard to believe a year had passed in the blink of an eye."It is," Maverick said with a smile, and he squeezed my hand."So, what is it you wanted to talk about?" I asked."What makes you think I brought you out here to have a talk?" he asked. "I could just want to spend
Willow Baker POVReaching out to the door, I opened it and was greeted by the sight of a gaunt Lesli. The putrid smell and poor condition nearly made me vomit as I covered my nose and mouth."Ah, Willow, you finally came. I was wondering when you would come," he said as he smiled at me. His smile fell when his eyes spotted Maverick right behind me. "Oh, you're here. I didn't ask for you.""I asked him to be here," I said as I held up my arm before Maverick could raise his voice.Lesli tilted his head to one side as he asked, "Why? Did you think I would do something to you?" When I didn't bother to give him a response, he raised his bandaged and chained arms up for us to see. "I can't exactly do anything to you right now.""I'm sure you'll find a way, but that's not
Willow Baker POVUnfortunately, the beautiful moment was ruined as a servant approached us. We stepped away from each other as Maverick frowned. They knew to leave us alone unless it was a serious matter."My apologies, your graces," the man said as he bowed. "The prisoner is acting up and demanding Willow's presence."There was only one person he could be referring to, but before I could say anything, Maverick said, "Willow will not be seeing him. I should have you punished for your insolence."The man quivered beneath Maverick's bloodlust. Asa squirmed at the sensation, but she didn't become upset like the last time she had been exposed to it. I wasn't sure whether I should be glad or upset.Reaching out to touch his shoulder, I said, "Maverick."
Willow Baker POVSeveral Days LaterLeaning back in my chair, I watched with a smile as Maverick played with Asa, who giggled loudly. For once, we were together not because someone had done something to make it happen, and I was quite happy about it.Maverick finally caught Asa, who laughed even harder when he raised her up into the air. She clapped her hands as they returned back to the table where I was sitting. Asa immediately reached out to me.Standing up, I took her from him, and we both settled down to enjoy the tea and snacks that had been left out. Asa tried to reach for the cookie I had, but I kept it out of arm's reach. She was far too young to be eating them.As I nibbled on the cookie while ignoring Asa's attempts to grab it out of
Willow Baker POVSeveral Hours Later'As you were saying.''I still say it isn't bad.'Of course, she would say that. She wasn't the one who had to endure all the stares as I sat next to Maverick. It was like being surrounded by a pack of hungry wolves, ready to pounce at any moment.Maverick scanned the room before standing. "Now that everyone is here, I believe there is something we need to seriously discuss." His face hardened as he said, "You all need to stop harassing us, especially Willow." Immediately, several people looked offended by his words, but he continued on, "This has gone on long enough.""Maverick, I believe you need to watch yo
Willow Baker POVA Few Weeks LaterAfter what had felt like centuries, I had finally kicked everyone out without being rude. I had thought that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, I had been wrong. I had been so very wrong. It seemed like a fire had been lit, causing the family to work even harder to ensure we were a proper couple. Well, at least the women were. The men had kept out of the whole exchange, and I wasn't sure how to feel about that.On one hand, it was better than having all of them gang up on me and Maverick. On the other hand, they weren't helping us and were choosing to stay on the sidelines. Rickey seemed to take particular glee at my suffering.'At least someone is enjoying themselves.'
