My confusion just grew by the day. What was Eldrid forest? Whose forest was it? Why was Jordan so surprised like that too? What was with the expression of fear?
"I will handle it, take her home." Jordan ordered in another split second and it seemed as if he was getting prepared for a battle, judging from his tone.
Kai bowed his head as Jordan stepped out, with me wondering where he was headed to.Kai led me to the basement parking lot and he drove me out in an expensive looking car. As he drove with a straight face, I felt pushed to just ask him questions.
"Excuse me." I started with, drawing his attention from the wheel, not totally though. "Yes?" "What is...this Eldrid forest and what does it mean to Mr. Jordan?" I asked innocently, feeling so clueless. It looked like he was hesitant to reply to me but he eventually did, giving me a solid no. "I am sorry but I can't tell you anything about that, ma'am." He replied and my jaw dropped, leaving an "oh.."
None of us said a word to each other till we got to my apartment complex. He dropped me off and immediately I alighted, I stood in front of the apartment and just watched the car go out of sight.
I could not lie about being worried about what happened earlier. It seemed like there was trouble but I did not know what it was, really.
As I approached the entrance of the complex deep in thoughts, I bumped into someone."Ah, I am very sorry. I--" .... "Rowland?" I arched my brows, not that I was surprised about seeing him there because he stayed there too of course but then bumping into him late that night, I did not see it coming.
"I was quite sure it was you. What were you thinking about Mira?" He asked, with his hands in his pocket. "It's nothing, Rowland. Just... random stuff."
"Hm..hm." he moaned gently and paused before he continued speaking. "Random? Okay. I just saw you alight from a car, who was that?"At that point, I felt like he was asking too many questions already. "Just someone I know." I did not even try to sound palatable any longer, I passed the response across with quite a bony face, showing that I was not interested in having that conversation.
All of a sudden, he smiled so broadly. "Alright then." He concluded, throwing one of his arms around my shoulder and walking me in.
"I have been to your unit but you were not around." He pointed out. "Really?" I raised my brows, wondering deep down why he came looking for me. "Yeah, I brought dinner."'Oh heavens, these people won't be the death of me, with food!'
Karima was used to doing that also but it seemed like she had stepped back a bit, she was not acting so clingy like before and I wondered what happened. Maybe it was I that pushed her away?Everything Rowland was saying after then, I did not hear because I was trying to reflect on my actions and everything I had said to Karima recently, to see if I was the one at fault.
We got into the elevator and I decided to divide my attention between my mind and Rowland. He was being such a talkative this evening and rather than getting worried about it, I was quite pissed.
I managed staying in that elevator with him till I got to my floor and I stepped out.
"Can I come with you?" He asked as I walked out and I was quick to turn him down. "I am sorry, Rowland. Not tonight." I responded, trying to sound as soft as possible."Okay then." He replied and smiled, then the elevator doors closed. After noting it mentally to go check up on Karima later, I walked into my apartment and turned on the lights.
A strange, sweet fragrance filled my nostrils immediately. They were so familiar, and I was pretty sure I had experienced something like it that day."Jordan." His name slipped off my mouth the moment I remembered. That was the smell of his Cologne, though it was not usually as strong as this physically but this particular one that filled my house was on a different level.
I walked further in, wondering if he was there or maybe he had been there. If yes, what could he have been looking for? After all, I had just left his place.
As I walked into the living room, I sighted a bulky stack of book on the table. The book looked so old and ancient. Looking stunned and confused, I reached out to get it.
I thought I would feel dust on my hands the moment I carried it but it was as neat as a new book, though it has had a long shelf life.
The book’s cover was made of dark, weathered leather, marked with deep, faintly visible cracks and scars from age.And centered on the cover was an intricate metal seal in the shape of a mysterious crest, tarnished and dull, yet radiating a sense of power. Around the seal were faded engravings and symbols, barely visible but hinting at arcane knowledge. The corners were reinforced with old brass fittings, adding to its ancient aura.
There was an already-fading Italian writing on the cover, that indicated, 'Al di là del Velato.' It meant, 'Beyond the veil.'I read out the Italian words and at that moment, the metal seal became illuminated and it shone into my eyes, forcing them close.
In a second, the light went out and the seal cracked open.I opened the books and saw different writings on the yellowed pages from age. I flipped the pages slowly, and most of the words were written in Italian. There were just a few English words in each page.
I continued flipping and then my eyes fell on a subject written boldly on one of the pages. "History of the Kierra Valtara, the Silver Claw ancient breed."I stayed hung up on the book till midnight, discovering crazy new things about my wolf. The impact the last person who had it, left in the world and so many other things. The energies, abilities and powers were numerous but there was a limitation to all of them.If they would be used for evil, it would backfire and there was certain I could use it too, if I was not charged in my spirit. If I exerted myself too much also, it could cause breakdowns in different forms. The most important thing was the host of this rare and ancient wolf was well trained. I dropped the book and rubbed my eyes gently, they had done a very good work that night. I headed to the kitchen to get a glass of water, going out to see Karima was no longer visible that night. As I drank water from the cup, I heard some fussing from outside. The complex was not usually noisy and I wondered what was going on, especially given that it was late in the night. I moved to the window to peep and see who and what was causing
I did not go to my apartment but I headed to Karima's, almost at the verge of tears. The moment she opened the door, I burst into tears and ran into her arms. She welcomed me warmly, like I would have expected and just patted my back."It's all my fault that he was going to kill himself, Karima." I cried on her shoulders but she started stroking my hair. "It is not your fault, Mira. Calm down." She replied. After a few minutes, I stopped crying and finally followed her into the living room while she held my hand. "Sit here, I will get you a blanket, a cup of coffee and then we will talk." She said and then left for her room. I wiped my face clean and just stayed there, waiting for her. Then, I heard that strange but familiar sound. That sound from the music box in my dream, and from the forest Jordan had taken me to. I felt troubled in my heart as I looked around for the source, then I saw a phone on the table which was obviously Karima's.She was getting a call and that sound was
He knew me, not me, but the one in me. How? How did he get to know? Who was he, even? Was I being held hostage? No, that was not happening. The simple plan was to get to work and do my normal thing, what was this?!"And...who may you be?" I raised my brows, fear was gripping me eventually but I tried to look unshaken on the outside. He frowned deeply, and right before me his eyes changed back to the normal 'brown' eyes I had seen earlier. The change was quite scary. He let out a sigh and faced the wheel, "What a shame. You don't even recognize me." "Can you just answer the question?" I raised my voice a bit, getting impatient as my fear continually increased. He turned around to coo me. "Hey...easy. It is not like I am going to eat you up or something, you just have something I need.""And...what is that?" I pressed further and then he smiled broadly, rather than finding it attractive, I found it terrifying and annoying. "Not so soon. It's one step at a time, Kierra." "Don't call
But how was that even possible? The cologne I had perceived when I entered my apartment was that of Jordan and this guy's own did not smell anything like it. To some extent, I was quite sure that Jordan had brought that book there. And now, it seemed like he knew who Jordan was and judging from his impulsive reaction, he was not on good terms with him."You know who Jordan is?""I said not to mention his name!" He snapped again not even wanting to hear the word at all."Okay, fine. But what do you know about him? And how did this book come about? How much do you know about me? And what do you want from me?""A question at a time, young lady." He cooed and I frowned."You will not call me that.""Whatever. Every answer you get comes at a price."The moment he said that, I remembered Jordan saying the same thing to me, in Italian. What really was with this give and take principle?"Okay, fine! What do you want?" I did not even hide my desertions to know anything and I had this feeling t
"How dare you?!" Jordan roared, He had appeared in the room all of a sudden. "And how dare you come into my territory?" This guy also replied, his face darkening the moment he saw him. I could really perceive some sort of strife from Jordan's brother."You have something of my own, Judah." Jordan responded, in a calm manner. Oh, so this green eyed dude was Judah by name? "It's not here so get the hell out!!!" Judah yelled at him.I started to feel some headaches and I just had to chip in. "Guys! You are shouting, I am here please." There was some quietness for a while, the Judah started again. His eyes were gradually turning green and from the little time I had spent with him, I could tell that that happened whenever he was about to probably cast spells or maybe he was angry.I knew something good would not come out of them being together within the same room but I could not think properly to do something before it gets out of hand."You came into my own space and stole my posses
"And what the hell were you doing around Judah? Huh? Why would you give up your abilities for some meagre information?" Jordan started to scold me the moment we landed. He really choked my thoughts then I could not think so fast so I could reply to him. I opened my mouth to speak and all that could come out of it was, 'I am sorry'. I rather said apologizing."I said stop being sorry!" He asserted firmly. "I blame him instead, but you could have easily sensed he was using you." He pointed that out. It was very funny how I saw what he was doing clearly but just decided to ignore it.Nevertheless, I was ready to take the blame and I was doing that out of fear, Jordan was actually very scary. And I could not still get why he was so mad when it was me involved.I sat down on the couch in my living room and that book, was still on the table there. He just stood, staring at it but doing nothing. I reached out for the book and then stood up and walked up to him."It's yours. I am sorry I re
The look on Karima's face was an indelible one, one I would never forget. "What did you just say, Mira?" She raised her brows. I nodded reassuringly, "Yes, but it was nothing. Dude just had a few questions to ask me and then.." my voice trailed off.I could sense how badly she wanted to leave what she was doing and come over to me, but then I had gotten what I wanted. The look on her face said a lot already, that she knew who Judah was and the kind of person he was."But...I hope you are okay, you are not hurt anywhere?" She inquired and then I smiled broadly. "I am fine, Karima."The reaction said that there was trouble lurking somewhere and as it was, it was a matter of urgency. There were so many confirmations to her true identity. Any normal person would have asked me to go to the cops to file a suit against whoever kidnapped me but she was not doing any of that.A few minutes later, she called me to the kitchen counter to eat. We were both silent throughout and on my part, I j
"You will not defy me, Kierra!" A woman with strange white hair yelled at me and I shivered, nevertheless, I still felt Stony somewhere in my heart. She was dressed in a cream-gold regalia, with a jade hairpin holding her hair up. "I will do what I want, mother. It's not fair on them all." I responded to her. "What do you know, child? Don't meddle in this." Her tone became quite softer. "Mother, they are good people, I promise, and they need me. I can't stand the sight of those innocent people being slaughtered because of me.""They deserve it!" She yelled again angrily and her eyes glowed like flames of fire, so brightly. She exuded so much energy that each time she raised her voice to yell at me, I would feel almost blown away. Compared to her, I was very little in terms of abilities and aura. "Lady Kierra, please..." I heard a different voice pleased so gently and turning to the direction where it came from, I saw that it was Madison."Stay out of it, Maddie." I grunted. "You
