***Matthew's POV***
-"Daddy, wake up. Please, Daddy, Mommy needs help." Carl rocks me awake.
My head is pounding as if I had an awful hangover, and my ears have this persistent deafening ring. The last thing I remember was my injury and Naomi trying to heal me. I feel my chest, looking for the wound Daniel impaled me with, but I am fully recovered.
-"Mommy needs help!" Carl shakes me again as I sit up.
The smell of burnt flesh makes my nose sting, and instinctively, I cover it with my hand. The lightning flashes bring brightness to the stormy dark battlefield. Scanning the area, I do a mental battle map. Everyone seemed to have stopped fighting the rogues, and they desperately fought this gi
***Naomi's POV***I thought you wouldn't feel or remember a thing when facing death's gates, but I was wrong. I feel it all too well --Pain. Not physical pain, but rather emotional. I lost the one whose mistakes and imperfections I learned to love. It's dark, cold, and lonely in here. Is this the afterlife? A soft and warm hand caught the stray tear I could no longer hold back. My blinking eyes adjust themself to the bright light. The fuzzy picture is slowly coming to focus. The familiar white sheer fabrics are dancing to the seagulls' melody in the arms of the wind.-"The one time you should have walked through the door, you didn't." The Moon Goddess giggles, amused at my apparent and unintended defiance.
***Naomi's POV***Life has a weird way of placing you where you need to be, precisely at the right moment. Some call it fate, others destiny. They say you can't run away from it, you must walk the path written in the stars, but if I'm honest, anyone can write their own story. The people you choose to walk alongside and their unique traits make it possible. Good things happen to those who are honest and kind, even if the rough thorny patches make you think otherwise. The path I walk hasn't always been easy, but now I am happy, at ease. The question is, how long before another storm hits my tiny island of happiness. In everything, there must be balance. The bigger the light, the bigger the shadow. Till then, I can only do one thing, enjoy every moment like it was my last.
*** Naomi's POV *** -"Naomi, dear. We are going to be late!" - my mom yelled through the mind link. -"I am almost done." - I replied. I analyze my reflection in the mirror. My A-line navy knee-length dress is perfectly paired with nude champagne heels and a purse. I pull my long black hair to the right side of my neck and lean closer to the mirror. - "Almost Perfect! Just missing a little bit of make-up." - said Artemis, the voice in my head. She is not just a voice, she is my wolf, and together we are a werewolf. Yes, her name is Artemis, just like the Greek Moon Goddess. My wolf swears the Goddess named her, herself. The Moon Goddess didn't have children like the other Gods, so she pic
*** Naomi's POV *** My mate is here! Somewhere behind these doors is my one and only. I can't stop to wonder what type of person he may be or if he will like us. What if he rejects us? I felt my heart rate spike at the thought of rejection. There is an undeniable magnetic pull towards the mansion and a hint of coffee and cinnamon in the air. - "Does anyone else smell coffee?"- I ask out loud. Lee looks at me and pokes my nose, saying: - "I can't smell anything, but knowing your addiction to coffee, I wouldn't be surprised if you can smell it all the way out here from the mansion's kitchen." Lee and everyone else laugh at his comment. - "Hey!" I gently s
*** Naomi's POV *** My immediate reaction was to run and hide. I ran down the steps towards the greenhouse and came to a halt at a crossing. My whole body is shaking, and my chest feels like it's ripping apart as Artemis lets out a painful cry. -"No! Our mate already has a mate, a Luna!" Artemis howls with agony in my head."And a pup."Another howl follows. The pain was so intense that tears ran down my face like the monsoon's rain. It was like a surgeon decided to operate on my chest without giving me anesthesia and proceeded with the surgery. My mate is the King of all Alphas, Matthew Stevens, and he did not wait for us, his real mate. I drop to the floor on my k
*** Matthew's POV ***The day started with me taking Susie, my Luna, to the pack doctor. It's eight in the morning, and Carl, our son, is still asleep. Judging by his regular schedule, he will stay asleep for another two hours. Regardless, I mind-link one of our omegas to babysit him while we are gone.We enter the pack's clinic and sit in the waiting room while waiting to be called next.-"Good Morning, Alpha. Good Morning, Luna."The nurse greets us, bowing her head as a sign of respect. My father had given me the responsibility of the pack and the title of Alpha when I was 25. He was adamant I needed to find a mate to become a strong Alpha. When you find
*** Matthew's POV *** My office is a pretty typical one, maybe a tad larger than average. Between the two dark espresso built-in bookshelves, a floor-to-ceiling window is located just behind the dark mahogany office desk. Two soft, see-through curtains break the harsh light, giving the window a soft glow. In front of the desk, there are two navy-blue soft velvet fauteuils with deep button tufting. The room also has two matching black velvet couches with similar button tufting on them sitting on both sides of the room with a dark espresso French coffee table directly across them both. Barely making it behind the desk, I hear someone knocking on the door. -"Come on in." I instruct before sitting down and taking a deep breath.
*** Matthew's POV ***It can't be. Why was she here? Why now? Did the Moon Goddess listen to Susie? I look around the room to find her, but I don't see her. Maybe outside, I thought, but before I could walk out again, two massive growls erupt from the middle of the room, and the word "mate" soon follows.I turned to see what was going on to see that Robert had found his mate. They both were hugging, burrowing their heads into each other's necks. What worried me was the older gentleman, obviously Rob's mate father. If looks could kill, the gentleman's son would be a dead werewolf. The look of disappointment was set on his face, and you could feel it from a mile away. He lets out a warning growl breaking the couple apart. I approach them to make sure a war doesn't start in my ballroom.
