2. Who is He?

Valerie walked with a languid look beside Daren. The police have not found the suitcase; the last time it was seen being carried by an old man through a shop, none of the CCTV cameras recorded the man.

Now, she didn't know what to do anymore. Everything she has is there.

"What are you going to do after this?" asked Daren, who had been watching Valerie.

Daren knew he wasn't very good at comforting people, but after he waited a long time, Valerie didn't say anything and just continued to follow him. Valerie looked very uneasy; she kept on sighing heavily and looking down at the road they were walking on. 

"Initially, I planned to find a rented house and find a job, but all the money I had was in that suitcase," Valerie answered quietly.

Daren took a deep breath. He then gently patted Valerie's back to encourage her. Having lost all the money she had in the town she just visited, Valerie must be really scared right now.

"How much money is in your suitcase?" Daren asked casually.

"Not many,"

"Then I'll reimburse you; after all, your suitcase was lost because I left it there!" Daren exclaimed quickly.

Valerie stopped her steps. She stared at Daren closely before finally laughing so hard. Daren was quite surprised by this. How come? Valerie had just lost her suitcase, but she was laughing so hard. It was very strange and unnatural.

"What is so funny?" Daren looked at Valerie in confusion. He felt that he didn't say anything funny; why did the girl laugh instead?

"Daren, you know what? You are so funny! Don't feel bad about that case; if it weren't for your help, not only my suitcase would have disappeared, but my virginity and even my life! I owe you so much, so don't offer me your money; it makes me feel so bad," Valerie said after stopping her laughter.

Valerie shook her head slowly and smiled warmly at Daren. At least she knows that there are still good people in this very cruel world. Daren, for example.

"You idiot, in your current state, you can still refuse my offer? Don't think about anything else and just accept my help! If you don't accept it, how will you live your life after this?" Daren stared at Valerie blankly.

Valerie shook her head slowly. It was true what Daren said; she shouldn't have refused. It's just that no one has ever been nice to her before, so Valerie didn't want to trouble that person.

"I will go to the shops one by one and ask if there are any job vacancies for me; if there are, maybe I can ask for a salary in advance to make a living," Valerie said casually.

Daren gaped in disbelief at Valerie's words. The girl beside him was extraordinary. How could she refuse Daren's help and prefer to make life difficult like that?

"No kidding!" Daren shook his head slowly, laughing sarcastically.

"I'm serious. Thanks for saving me; we can split up here." Valerie smiled warmly at Daren again.

Daren took a deep breath. He fell silent with a pretty chaotic mind. It would be better if he separated from Valerie soon. However...

"I don't want to be the jerk who leaves you alone after knowing how bad your condition is!" Daren exclaimed, glaring.

Before Valerie could speak, Daren had already pulled the girl's hand towards his car.

Daren's steps suddenly stopped, making Valerie, who was unprepared, bump into the man's back.

"What is it?" asked Valerie, confused.

Because Daren didn't answer, Valerie went in front of him and saw Daren's face.

Valerie withdrew her hand quickly when Daren's grip felt very hot. How could Daren's body be so hot?

"Get in the car and don't get out without my command!" Daren ordered.

A second later, Daren ran away from Valerie and into the forest on the other side of the road.

Feeling that something strange was happening, Valerie ran after Daren even though she was far behind.

Valerie couldn't find anything in there. Not Daren or anyone else. She was alone, surrounded by towering trees.

Valerie kept walking, hoping to find Daren. She got lost. She tried to follow the path she had previously walked, but she never reached the edge of the forest.

In a state of panic, Valerie screamed Daren's name. Until finally, she was tired and chose to sit under a big tree.

"Didn't I tell you not to go anywhere until I got back?" Daren grumbled as soon as he found Valerie.

Valerie, who was happy to see Daren's presence, immediately stood up and ran over to him.

"I tried to chase you, but I got lost instead!" Valerie tried to explain.

Valerie's eyes widened completely when her ears caught a sound coming from the bushes, followed by the howling of a dog that was so loud. The girl looked at Daren with a knowing look.

"Did you hear that?" exclaimed Valerie quickly.

"I didn't hear anything!" Daren said quickly while looking far away to the other side of the forest.

"You didn't hear anything but turned your head to the other side of the woods! You terrible liar! I'm sure you did!" Valerie looked at Daren deeply.

"It's a forest; it's only natural that we hear wolves howling!" Daren exclaimed after taking a deep breath.

Valerie shook her head slowly.

"Why do you think it's a wolf? I thought it was a dog," said the girl while looking at the forest area.

Daren turned and shook his head in exasperation. Couldn't that girl tell the difference?

"The howls of dogs and wolves are different!" exclaimed the man with his hands on his hips.

He does not accept that his group is likened to a dog.

"Whatever! Now we have to go back to the police station and report this! Aren't wolves dangerous? Especially with the rumors of werewolves being seen in town! They can hurt residents!" exclaimed Valerie quickly.

Daren shook his head weakly. He then took a deep breath and stepped closer to Valerie.

"They won't hurt anyone!" Daren said it with a sharp look.

"How can you be so sure?"

Daren was speechless; being with Valerie at a time like this was very risky. Daren didn't want Valerie to know the big secret that was in that place. So he had to take Valerie away as soon as possible.

"I'll take you back to Lusi's place!" Daren shouted while half-dragging Valerie away from the forest area.

Annoyed, Valerie pushed away Daren's hand that tightly gripped his arm, then sent a death glare at the man.

"This is for our safety!" Valerie shouted.

Valerie's hands clenched tightly. She heard it again—the same howl and so much sound of footsteps.

Suddenly, Daren's face became tense, and the man pulled Valerie behind his body when a strange sound was heard approaching.

The girl fell to the ground after seeing a pale-faced human with super speed charging towards her.

But swiftly, Daren hit the pale human until he was blown away from them.

Valerie's eyes were wide open, her eyes bloodshot, her face pale, and so quickly, were those pale humans Vampires?

"Stay behind me!" Daren ordered.

Several wolves emerged from the bushes to help Daren get rid of the vampires.

A vampire was about to attack them again, but Daren jumped at the vampire and transformed into a huge wolf.

Valerie's breath hitched at the sight of the wolves and vampires fighting. She couldn't believe her eyes; how could Daren turn into a wolf? Was this what Sean meant earlier?

Valerie pinched her arm hard, leaving a mark there accompanied by a feeling of pain that made her realize that what she was seeing wasn't just a hallucination. In front of her, there was indeed a fierce battle between Vampires and big wolves, one of whom she knew was Daren.

The girl's heart seemed to stop beating as a vampire flew towards her with sharp fangs showing in its wide, open mouth.

At that moment, the girl lost consciousness.

With a quick jump, Daren slammed into the Vampire, ripping apart the Vampire's body with its ferocity until nothing remained of it.

Daren immediately transformed into a human and took Valerie's body into his arms.

"Mark, I leave it all to you!" Daren shouted before finally running away from the place.

The black wolf, which was Mark's transformation and filled the Beta position in the Bluemoon pack led by Daren, nodded and led the other wolves to continue their hunt.

Some of the vampires managed to escape, so they had to go back to hunting them.

Daren kept running very fast. Unfortunately, their base is quite far away.

After a long journey, they finally arrived at the headquarters. Lusi was waiting for them in front of the house in a panic.

"I'll take care of her; you have to go!" cried Lusi as she took over Valerie's body.

Daren nodded quickly, transformed into a wolf, and returned to follow his pack to hunt the vampires.

Lusi lifted Valerie's body and carried her into the room. She then laid Valerie's body on the bed and examined it.

Luckily, the girl only passed out. Daren only said that Valerie was unconscious when the vampires attacked her. Lusi thought the vampire had hurt Valerie, but she seemed fine.

Lusi has a special ability to read minds; it's just that she is so weak that she can't join her group to hunt their eternal enemies, the vampires.

Because of that, Lusi only became a base guard and occasionally accompanied Daren on important missions.

"There's something unusual about Valerie; she's not like most humans, but not like us either. I'm sure she senses werewolf DNA in her, but there's something unusual. What is she?" Lusi muttered while watching Valerie's body from head to toe.

"How is the condition?"

Lusi immediately turned her head when their elder, Adam, came into the room to see Valerie's condition.

"I just passed out," said Lusi quickly.

"Adam, I feel something strange; what exactly is she?" asked Lusi with a meaningful look.

The man with white hair and tan skin came closer and sat beside Valerie's bed.

"She's not an ordinary human," Adam said slowly.

"She has mixed human and werewolf DNA!" cried Lusi quickly.

Adam nodded slowly.

"Nature brought her back to us," Adam said with a smile.

Lusi's brow furrowed at Adam's words.

"Once upon a time, her father, Robert, was an alpha to the Blackmoon pack in our land, but he had a forbidden love with a human wizard named Amber! In a complicated love story, the elders couldn't let that happen, so they tried to keep them apart. However, their love was too strong; Robert left Blackmoon to live with Amber!"

Lusi listened intently to every word that came out of Adam's mouth.

"Amber was pregnant, and when she was about to give birth, the vampires attacked our beloved land. The safety of humanity was threatened, and we asked Robert to come back to fight with us. He died in the fight. When Amber found out, she was devastated. It was unlucky for a vampire to find their home and beat Amber to death. Luckily, we were able to save Valerie!"

Adam told the story while looking at Valerie's innocent face. The face immediately reminded him of Amber and Robert because she was so much like her parents.

"Why don't you guys take care of her? I heard this girl is from an orphanage!" said Lusi, annoyed.

However, Valerie's father was the alpha of the Blackmoon pack before the pack disappeared. Aren't those who remained obligated to look after Valerie?

"Valerie has mixed blood! At that time, things were quite difficult for us, so we put her in an orphanage, hoping she would live a much better human life. Who would have thought fate brought her back to this place?"

Lusi took a deep breath after hearing Adam's story. Really, poor Valerie.

"Valerie knows our identities; what should we do with her after this?" asked Lusi, confused.
