EMMA’S POV

I felt myself drowning each time I opened my eyes, a force greater than my human body pummelling against my fragile being. I could still remember the gut-wrenching screams that escaped from my mouth, cutting g and brandishing everything close to it.

In this little haze, I could hear Mordecai’s cackles and Vashka’s cry for more doom. I could feel everything and nothing at the same time, and when the little daydream finally passed, I came to loathe everything and everyone around me, including Lucien.

Half of me felt like it was his fault, his fault for leaving Mr with Tanesha, his fault that he couldn’t see that Marilyn was flirting her way into his life, I felt a slab of jealousy hit me hard across my chest. Each painful squeeze made me clutch at my chest aggressively.

“Good to see you’re back Emma, thought you would never make it”

The voice that had been causing me to feel several kinds of emotions tore into my head; her voice felt like glass against my nerves, shatteri

“Leave me alone Josh!” I say in an alarmed tone as I'm pushed against the wall. My face contorts in pain as my elbows collide with the wall. “Shut the fuck up! We both know you want me, enough with all this sly acting.” Josh says with a sneer on his lips as he leans closer to me. The pungent smell of alcohol emanating from him is enough to make me puke if I wasn't already disgusted by him. Life in Willowbrook Town is slowly becoming unbearable for me. The people's cruel nature was slowly getting to me. Their wicked words and derogatory statements cut through the pieces of my fragile heart. What's worse is that, I'm in no way to be blamed for my predicament. I was abandoned by my parents and family just a few months after I was born. The townspeople gave me away to the orphanage where I was brought up. The townspeople got it into their heads that because I grew up without my family, I don't deserve any respect or love. Almost as if it was my fault that I was abandoned. It got bet

Thank you very much.” I say with a wide smile on my face as the shopkeeper packs up the inkwell. I've always been attracted to antiques — things dating as far back as my birth. There's just something so rich and beautiful about the history of these items that I can't help but take them for myself. All my novels are usually historical fiction. My characters' love for each other transcending through time. I step out of the antiques shop, and I can't help but wonder why I haven't taken note of this shop before. I'm not too shocked though, considering the fact that I rarely leave my house. I'm always holed up inside my house. I breathe easier when I get closer to my house and realize that Josh is no longer anywhere close by. I don't waste any more time outside though, for fear that an evil bigger than Josh will jump out of the shadows and attack me. I lock the door behind me, rushing towards my writing desk where I carefully place the inkwell on top. I stare at it for a few minutes,

The first thing I notice when I open my eyes are the bright lights, and the second thing I notice is the strange figure sitting on the chair beside my bed. “You are still here?!” I murmur in shock as I recognise the person sitting on the chair as Lucien Blackwell.“Where else would I be?” Lucien asks with a smirk on his lips, and if I didn't know better, I would say he's laughing at my predicament. “I don't know! Stuck in my imagination or something! How are you real?!” I ask in a frustrated and completely baffled tone as I stare at him the way one would stare at a lab rat. Lucien continues to watch me calmly as if he's already accepted this impossible reality. “The Inkwell.” He says simply, nodding to the object sitting on the desk, its surface gleaming in the light. I blink, still half-convinced that this is some bizarre dream. “The inkwell?” I echo, my voice wavering between disbelief and fear.Lucien nods again, his expression softening just a fraction. “Yes. LUCIEN’S POV It’s been six hellish days in this damn place, and six days since Emma had broken through the damned obsidian curse. It had been two days since Emma had refused to see me.I had no idea why she would refuse to see me even though I had gone knocking on her door countless times, pleading and screaming to at least see her.But then she was just so stubborn, even Maximo, Marilyn, and Tanesha were in on it, always making sure I respected her decision.I felt like a fucking piece of shit; I spent hours under the sun training vehemently, learning new curses and spells that chewed out my insides, twisting and turning at my insides.Learning curses was not for the weak, and if I needed to fight with the obsidian order head-on, I needed to have a few counter curses up my sleeves. “You seem a bit distracted, Lucien. What’s wrong?” Tanesha called out breathlessly, her voice echoing through the vast space of lands as she trudged slowly towa

BRIAN’S POV The flight to pines field was one long exhausting trip, and Verity just didn’t know when exactly to shut The hell up. She was always rambling word after word that didn’t make perfect sense to my ears.If she wasn’t blabbering, she was singing songs that didn’t have any rhythm in her high-pitched voice, or worse, she was chewing loudly. One thing with half-blooded vermin was that they were always too happy, and they were the most dangerous, too dangerous. “Shut the hell up, verity,” Lilith sneered, her icy glare shutting Verity up immediately, making her recoil in her chair, a sheepish grin blooming across her face as she stared out the window.I was excited about this just for one main reason: I got to see Emma, and the thought of that seemed to elevate my mood to a great extent; I could not wait to take in a healthy dose of her lavender mist fragrance. “Are all plans set in motion with the hordes?” Lilith asked me carefully, her eyes fl

LUCIEN’S POV I woke up two days later, I could still feel the heaviness of my head resting heavily on my shoulders, the dark room heightening my fear and anger as I laid wide awake . The candle flickering aggressively in their stands as I peered dangerously into the fire. The house itself looked to be asleep and there was no way I could trust Tanesha after that Incident. I found her repulsing, even though she hadn’t exactly done anything for me to despise her this much, I wondered how she claimed to know too little. Her words confused the hell out of me.“Good to see that you are awake” Tanesha’s solemn voice called from beside me as she made her way to the foot of the bed, her night gown sweeping across the wooden floorboards that creaked silently at her movements.“I get it, I get that you wouldn’t want to speak to me after what happened the other day in the hallway, but then certain things just has to stay the way it is” she said with a sigh, a sudden sadness coating her eyes as
