Uriel
“That was terrible!” I plopped my head on my gigantic fluffy heart pillow. A hot tear ran down my puffy face. “I can’t even finish the movie, if that poor little thing has to live on like that.” Taking the remote, I stopped the movie and tossed remote to the other side of the room. “That poor little deer lost his mom and had to go live with his really serious dad. I’m not finishing that. He looked waaay too grumpy to be a happy ending and I am all about happy endings.
Sliding off the bed in my white nightgown, I glance at the clock to see if I could come out of my room. Mom and Dad have been waiting on the stork for a new baby brother. They said I wasn’t allowed to come downstairs all night long.
The stork works the night shift, apparently.
That was so hard too, because I like my midnight sneaky snacks. I had a fun little hiding spot right in the kitchen that Mom doesn’t even know about. Best part of all, it keeps popping up with new candy all the time. It’s like magic, and magic is really awesome. Especially when Dad shows me his armor, he just wills it just like my wings and BOOM right on his body. He has this amazing sword, and it’s so sharp I’m not allowed to touch it.
Mom gets super cranky when he shows me his battle armor. She gets cranky, like a lot.
Dad likes to watch me when I’m in the kitchen. He has this little smile on his face when I get near my hiding spot, so I can’t go near it when he is awake. He knows I have a secret stash, but I would never tell him where it is, I might have to change it really soon so he doesn’t steal it.
I pranced downstairs, not taking notice of my wings banking the stairwell all the way down. I squeaked, covering my mouth with both my hands. Mom hates it when I don’t put my wings away when I’m in the house. It wasn’t my fault they had a mind of their own. They just flutter when I get real happy and then when I get all sad, they droop like those cute little killer whales’ fins they keep in captivity.
Those poor whales.
Willing my wings back into my body, I tiptoed down the stairs. My parents’ room was on the main level of the house, because Dad has to leave suddenly sometimes. He’s an archangel, the coolest job, and he has to listen to whatever his boss, Zeus, says.
Tapping by my parents’ room, I scooted into the large kitchen. Mom had all the best cooking equipment. She loved to cook and her favorite thing to make was the double chocolate cake with strawberry drizzle. It’s my favorite, and she makes it when I argue too much about wanting to go outside.
Rubbing my hands together, doing my little booty shake before I opened the big box of prunes that secretly held my stash, the doorbell went off. My box of-not prunes went flying in the air, landing in the sink.
Gasping, I shrunk down to the floor. The floor was pristine white, just like everything else in this house except all the greenery Mom liked. Do you know how long it takes to water all the plants in the morning? It takes forever!
The doorbell rang again, but I stayed silent. That was the rule, I could not leave the house without Mom or Dad, can’t answer the door and can’t have friends, which made me sad. They said the world was crazy out there with so much evil that I couldn’t imagine. They said it was worse when Hans tricked Ana, but now I’m thinking maybe it was worse than that little deer who just lost his mom.
That poor baby deer!
But I had a wish, and that wish was for me to step out of here alone. Mom always made me wear cloaks covering my face and no one ever noticed me! I didn’t like wearing a cloak; I wanted to feel the sunshine, but she said I could get skin cancer. I didn’t know gods got skin cancer, but apparently they do.
When I first learned how to fly, she made me go out at night with Dad. It was so dark I kept flying into poles and I had a black eye for an entire hour! I cried and cried until Dad argued with Mom about how silly it was for me to fly at night, especially when it was hard to see.
For a moment, her eyes filled with regret until her irrational feelings flooded over her again. “There are too many dangers. Better a black eye than some demon to take her down to the pits of Tartarus.”
I didn’t know what any of that was, but if it was worse than a black eye, I didn’t want it. Cause it really hurt.
The doorbell rang again, shaking me from my thoughts. Finally, a letter fell through the slots. It was slightly aflame, but still the paper had yet to burn.
Oh goodie, I more magic!
I crawled over, peeking through the mail slot to make sure the mailman was gone. He doesn’t know me, but I know him. The neighbors’ Pegasus begs him for sugar cubes every day and when he forgets, the pegasus bites him right on the tushie! I snorted back a laugh. It was a funny animal. When Mom and Dad aren’t looking, I throw my carrots and celery out the window and it neighs happily.
I’m glad someone like vegetables because I certainly didn’t.
I really wanted a pet just like a pegasus but mom said no, “they poop all over the house.”
Returning to the letter still aflame, touching it a few times to make sure it would burn my freshly painted pearl nails, I flipped it over.
“To the Soul Bonded Couple Goddess Hera and Arch Angel Michael,” it was in beautiful calligraphy lettering that shined when the light would hit it at a certain angle. Mom and Dad always let me open the mail. It was like opening presents on Christmas except this was just a letter, so there weren’t fun presents inside.
Ripping it open, the fire envelope fell to the floor, turning to a light powder of ash before finally disappearing. “That’s amazing,” I whispered, my foot swishing the floor to feel for remanents of the ash. Reading its contents, there was a black stenciled drawing of a massive palace, with a three-headed dog on the letterhead. “From the Delighted Parents of Hades, God of the Underworld and Parisa Goddess of Empathy and Bonding.”
“Wooooah,” I held up the letter to the light. The dog was simply adorable, and the palace was the darkest thing I had ever seen. Black wasn’t around the Celestial Kingdom and this, this was the darkest thing I had ever seen. My finger traced the slightly raised lines.
“Ugh, focus.”
As I read, I found it to be a baby announcement and party. They had a baby! Babies were so cute but I had never seen one up close and I have never been to a party! Would Mom let me go? If it was up to Dad, he would let me do lots of things, but Dad tells me a lot that he is ‘whipped’ or his ‘balls are on the fridge.’ I never found a whip in the house and there were no balls on top of the fridge, so I don’t know what he was talking about.
Anyway, I could do two things at once if Mom was in a good mood and she was always in a good mood in the mornings. Maybe we can all go! I ran to Mom and Dad’s bedroom door, that I am not allowed to open. I have to knock really loud so they can hear because sometimes they wrestle.
Mom’s really loud when she wrestles. Sometimes I have to turn up a movie really loud.
Knocking three times, I heard Dad’s voice. “What?” he sounded out of breath. “Sorry, did I wake you up?”
“No, I’ve been up,” he choked back a labored laugh.
“Oh, Okay,” I pulled at the hem of my short nightgown, fiddling with it, still holding the letter in my other hand. “I was wondering,” I muttered.
“Yes!!” My Mom squealed. My eyes brightened. Did she read my mind?
“So can I just go- “
“YES! YES,” she moaned loudly as I heard a thud on the other side of the door. Sounded like Mom was winning. I jumped up and down squealing, my wings flying out of my body too quickly, causing a small vase to land on the floor.
Whoops, I’ll clean that later.
“Yippie!” Running up the stairs. I changed into my prettiest finger tip length white dress because Mom said I looked best in white. I found some baby’s breath flowers, making them into a small crown to put on my head. The white flowers really popped against my dark hair. Dashing a bit of glitter around my cheeks and checking my face to make sure it was clean, I ran back down the stairs, leaving the mess I made on the floor.
Checking myself in the mirror one last time, fixing the crazy curl that liked to curve around my neck, I took a large breath. For the first time, I was going to feel the sun on my skin and not the rough texture of the stupid cape. Mom didn’t bring it up, and neither will I! My smile brightened, opening the door and to the brightly lit sky.
“Yes,” I sighed heavily, shutting the door and taking flight to the nearest portal to the Underworld.
Lucifer
“Where in Tartarus have you been?” I shut the door to my bedroom, my father sitting on the bed with a scowl on his face. “Do you know what time it is, Lucifer? It’s six in the damn morning and you were gone all night. Were you screwing some slutty demon?”
I growled out, my hands turning black with cracks of red magma between them. “Don’t fucking start with me old man,” my large purple flames engulfed my hands, ready to fight against my father. His face instantly fell, his shoulders shrugging, sitting back on the bed.
“I shouldn’’t have raised my voice,” his hand rubbed his mouth. “Your Mother is worried, and in turn, it makes me worry. Where have you been?"
Willing my hands clean, I walked to the wardrobe, stripping off my bloody clothes and wrapping a towel around my waist. Father patiently waited, knowing I was calming the fire inside my belly. My anger was only getting worse as the days passed, my own Father having to control his just to make sure I don’t go out of control. If I did, who knows what would happen to my family if I went nuclear?
My Father shouldn’t have to do that, he should have to calm his son, he should be able to punish me to teach me a lesson. I rubbed my face with both hands, sitting in my desk chair. “Sorry, Father.” Father turned to me, his eyes softening. The internal battle with in me was a losing one, and we both knew that. He knew how serious this had become and we both had started preparations.
“I won’t be able to control the rage much longer. It’s best we implement the plan we discussed.” Father shook his head, pulling his freshly styled hair.
“No, I refuse to believe it has come to this. You are still so young. You have to fight it.”
Abruptly standing from my chair, my black wings flew out of my body, the fire tickling the tips of the feathers grew brighter. “You don’t understand, I can’t! I thirst for blood, I thirst to destroy everything in my path. Who knows when I will fail and hurt the innocent? What if I went to Earth? What if I start the Apocalypse!”
“That is a human tale, its not real,” he calmly stated.
“Maybe it is!” I chuckled manically. “Maybe it is I who is to start it and that is why you will lock me in Tartus next to your father!”
LuciferMy Father couldn’t look at me. His smoke tendrils wrapping around his body said it all. He was angry, and unable to control the emotions floating through him. I knew I had struck a nerve. My Father had tried so many times before to keep his cool. He shouldn’t have to, not when I’m his son. He should be allowed to punish me, to beat me into obeying like the young god I was, but now my power was equal to his, something unfathomable to think about for the God of Hell. Especially the first born of Kronos.“Lucifer,” my Father said calmly, his eyes glowing red. “You still have time. I believe this. If I lock you up now, what am I to tell your Mother? She calls for you constantly. I have to lie and tell her you are working else where besides that pit,” he spat.My wings retracted with the gust
UrielIt didn’t take long for me to find the portal. It was the center of the Celestial Kingdom. Many angels walked in and out of it like it was nothing. The large stone archway was decorated with lightly colored granite, only to look like an oversized mirror that was twenty feet wide.I stood behind the corner of the bakery Mom likes to go to on Sunday mornings to plan my studies for the week to keep me busy. It was small and only had a few tables, and she said the carrot cake was delicious. I licked my lips, peaking inside, wanting to taste something sweet and savory, but the itch in my wings made me flutter at the real reason I was out here.To go to a party! That will have a lot of free snacks! My wings fluttered again, them not looking at all the same like the other angels. Many female angels don
UrielI continued to squeeze through the crowd, not paying attention to Queen Parisa standing on the balcony. The cake looked so delicious to be ignored, and no one was even looking at it. My wings tucked close to my body still hit someone gently on their shoulder."I'm so sorry," I whispered. My wings shuttered, I was too nervous about pulling them inside my body, but the large man in front of me looked down with bright blue brilliant eyes. "It's quite alright. Are you okay?" This man was really muscular, wearing a light tan suit and flowing white hair that graced his shoulders. The white stubble on his face was a shade darker than the hair on his head. His hands steadied my shoulders, looking me in the eye."You look familiar," he tilted his head. "Yet, I have never seen you before. I know all the angels and gods. What is your name?" I
LuciferStepping out of the front palace doors, many continued to glare holes in my back. The heat of their stares only magnified my mission to find this girl, figure her out. Surely there had to be a spell cast on her, to deter my emotions and seek some sort of revenge on me and my family. There was no secret. My father was, in fact, the God of Hell, but he wasn’t as evil as the souls he tormented. After my mother being saved from a sex traffic ring, he sent his own demon soldiers to act as humans, finding entire rings of darkened souls for them to feed upon. The soul eaters became father’s new favorite creation. They suck the lives of worthless humans or supernaturals, sucking them straight to the doors of torture. Bypassing the judgment table and earning a number one spot session with me.Bodies fell completely to the floo
UrielEverything was going great. I made a new friend, even though he had a bit of a potty mouth. He even offered me candy! But of course my stomach and chest had to hurt when he said it would taste so good. I might have had too many honeysuckles and honey. I’ve never had a problem with too much sugar before.Maybe I was just too excited to be here! Yup, I was because I got to see some outstanding puppies and got to play in this exceptional garden full of flowers I had never seen before. The Underworld was an amazing place for sure and I didn’t want the party to end so I could explore more.Things with Loki patched up nicely. I was worried about giving up my first potential at a proper friend, but he changed really quick. It made my wings warm at the promise he made me, a real promise. Now I would have someone to go with me and give me a tour around the entire estate! The flutter in my wings made me giddy until a bright light flashed at the front of
LuciferLoki looked shamefully at the ground as he was being scolded by Uriel. I kept my face disinterested to the whole thing, still not sure how to face the situation. Uriel was my mate. Her mother had kept her from the other gods, goddesses and angels all while she grew up. She knew nothing of the underworld, deemed too evil. The only reason I met my fated mate was because of a simple misunderstanding.Since the gods started claiming mates just twenty-five years ago with my Mother’s new gift, babies had been born left and right. Taking part in either their mother's or father’s original form at birth, so there would be no natural-born mix of whatever species the parents were. My father, being a god, it was only natural for my mother’s werewolf genes to morph and make her immortal, thus giving her the power of bonding to help Selena, the Moon Goddess, making mother a goddess herself.Mother had had plenty of gatherings so that the new gods, an
Lucifer“Aren’t you still an archangel, Michael? What happened to the bad-ass archangel from twenty-five years ago? You gotta take your mate by her ass and tell her how it is. Chicks dig that kinda shit.” Ares plopped down on the thick leather chair, not caring that sweat and blood dripped on the expensive upholstery.“Can’t act like that anymore!” Michae threw his hands up in the air. “I’ve got a daughter now. I’ve got to be a bit more civilized than that.” Ares huffed, rubbing the sweat off his brow and slapping the table. Opening his mouth, he paused, whipping his head back to Michael.“You got a kid? Fuck man, congrats!” Ares stands up, goes to shake Michael’s hand before my father exploded.“If you were at the party, you would have known!” Ares scratches his head.“Oh, was that today?” Father rolled his eyes, falling back in the chair. Mariah,
LuciferAfter ten minutes of Michael arguing with Hera, which could be heard down the hallway, mind you, I left my seat, unable to listen to the bickering between Athena and Ares. They were at opposite ends of the spectrum, intelligence-wise, mainly about the topics of relationships, and no one was getting anywhere in those discussions.I followed my body. I didn’t think of where to go or what to do. For the first time in my life, I let my body flow with its surroundings. I went down the hallway and saw that the paintings on the walls were lighter. The servants were chuckling, nudging themselves as I went by. The smiles I had never seen, or maybe never paid attention to, had me doing double-takes down the hall.Of course, once they realized I was staring, they busied themselves with their work rather than have my heated gaze fall upon them.My feet landed right outside Loki’s door. Giggling and slight tappings on the door had me intrigue
Epilogue“Baby!” Uriel and Lucifer had reappeared in front of the portal of the Underworld. The dark stones and the beautiful flowers that Uriel had stared in awe at just seven months before waved into the breeze she created as she skipped along the stones. Luci’s wings help catch up to her, grabbing her by her waist.Hanging torches set the Underworld Palace to light, the red moon of the Underworld casting a glow of mysteriousness. It was nothing that Uriel wasn’t used to now. She and Lucifer spent every weekend in the place while during the week they explored both the worlds of Earth and Bergarian. Most recently, visiting the island of Hawaii while Poseidon tries to gain favor with his mate.“I can’t believe Mariah had the baby already!” Lucifer wrapped his arm around Uriel’s waist. He stayed true to his word. There was never a moment he let her out of his sight. Uriel often complained but secretly, deep down, she loved his possessiveness and how he took care of her. It took her wor
LuciferGently taking Uriel off my shoulder and into my lap, I sat her down at the small wooden picnic table. Uriel was adamant that this party was to be fun, like one big giant birthday party, and not done over the top. It was exactly that, simple with the fun party features that Uriel has deprived of all her life.Chocolate fountains, cupcake mountains, cookies, candies, a hot chocolate bar, and of course, normal food for the rest of us were in endless supply as the Celestial Fairies continued to bring in more food. Dionysus, of course, was in charge of the whole thing, checking the bar, the food, and the drinking games. He had a damn beer pong table humans like to play. My grandparents’ wolves were all playing that game, causing hoots and hollers even over the large bass of music.Humans got one thing right, music. I couldn’t imagine the gods trying to bump and grind into a bunch of harps and flutes. “I’m tired,” Uriel’s mouth slurred as I had her sit on my lap.She needed some car
“Uriel, do you know what this is?” I groaned. Leaning my head back, watching him take another sip. “Pina Coladaaaaa, duhhhh.” I rolled my eyes, which earned me a hard smack on my bum. “Owie,” I poked his chest. “Gimmie, Athena gave it to me. It is the coolest gift ever!” Taking it back, I finished the glass again, trying to run away from Luci. It was easy, I was small and light. I went under some dancers legs, they would squeal in surprise. They all laughed as they saw my butt wiggle going to the middle of the dance floor. Luci continued to call my name. His worried voice had me laughing so hard, some of my drink spilled. Realizing I was making a mess, I stood up and pranced to the other side of the crowd, seeing Ares grinding on Mariah. His hands were on her butt and his hips ground hard into the front of her body to the beat of the music. Lights strobed around us until I stopped in front of them both. Just staring at them. I wish I could dance like that. Sucking on my straw, th
UrielI pouted as Luci led me out of the tent. He cleaned me up like I was some little child and put on the white dress that hugged my body like a second skin. In the back, a big white bow sat on the curve of my lower back causing an ellicit groan from Luci.“Stop pouting or I’ll give you something to pout about,” he slapped my bum and grabbed my hand, now leading me out to the sands of Dragon Isle. The light sources hung over the horizon and the pretty mason jar lights hung around the gigantic structure that held a bamboo dance floor. Everyone’s feet were bare, the slapping of their feet, and the twirling of all the pretty dresses led me into an enchantment that was straight out of a fairy tale.“Uriel!” Silas waved to me. He was sitting on the pier that led right to the dance floor on the sand. His tentacles dipped into the ocean as he sat with his body leaning on his muscular arm. I waved frantically, seeing one of my new friends. Pulling Luci’s hand, he stopped to see where I want
Loki, flew overhead, his Raven flying over us as the dark shadow went through the crowd. As fucking cheesy as it was, Uriel had mentioned having birds fly overhead with our searing kiss, but with the help of my brother, we did something better.Phoenix birds of Hell rose to the sky, their flaming tails of fire exploding overhead, scorching the sky. Feathers dropped from their wings and tails, only to ignite and flame out just before hitting the crowd. The ash, now white as snow, dusting us all.Breaking away from the kiss, Uriel’s eyes widened as the ash fell around us. “It’s so pretty,” she whispered, holding out her hand for the ash to collect in her hand. The Phoenix only reminded me of my love for my mate, the fiery passion we had for each other, the explosion of pain of almost losing her only to find her as pure as the first rains that descended on the worlds. We had started anew, and this time I would be sure to cherish every moment.Tracing my finger across her cheek, her head
LuciferShe paused; her knees knelt to the soft sand, looking up from her thick lashes. It was the first time she saw me, too busy looking at her parents and how happy it made her that they were there, and alive.It had been a long week, most of it spent in our room, but when we did emerge. I had to pacify the soon-to-be in-laws that I would forever take care of their daughter. Michael must have seen something inside me, that I would lay down my life for his daughter, my mate, when he pulled me into a hug.The most vulnerable moments when I held Uriel in my arms when she almost met the stars did something to me. As much as a possessive bastard I was, it had increased tenfold since that day. Uriel saw it as a new life, a new hope for not just us but for the entire Celestial Kingdom.As much as she put on a brave face for her near-death experience, she reverted to her child-like ways during those three days we spent together huddled up in our bed. Constantly reassuring her she was fine;
“You look beautiful, Uriel.” My mom pulled a curl away from one whisps that was curling my hair. My hair was a fluttery mess as at least fifty of the little blue lights continued to pull and braid. They were common in the world of Bergarian. They fluttered around the mates mostly and liked to cause trouble for the men, teasing them.I giggled as my mother tried to swat one away until they released the entirety of my hair and began working on my mom’s. Sitting down on the bench beside me, she sighed dejectedly. “I guess there really is no use in pushing them away, is there?” I hummed a quick ‘no’ and stared at my reflection in the mirror. My hair was perfectly curled, styled down as Luci liked. The small crown of white and gold roses adorned my head while my dress was filled with fluffy tulle and sparkling diamonds around the bodice that glowed through the skylight of the magnificent tent.My toes buried themselves in the floor's sand, yet my white toes continue to peek through the oat
Zeus“We go now.” I rubbed my itchy beard. My body was a mess. Never in my life have I ever felt this weak, like a damn tick, sucked of all the life essence from my body. My body felt itchy and sick, still the black tar that coated my body where Kronos bled out of me remained.“Maybe you should clean up first,” Parisa offered, but I shook my head. We needed to strike now, rid of our father that dared tried to do this. Next time, we wouldn’t be so lucky. Kronos only grew stronger as the years went by and he was close this time, too close. The gods looked to me. For the first time since my betrayals against Hera, they looked to me for what to do. Their eyes were stern, holding a grudge against our father. They could all do what they willed, go down and destroy them together without my permission, but they didn’t. They waited for my word.My apprehension made me mumbled to myself why this would be, only for Hades to put his hand on my shoulder. “You’ve defeated him before,” Hades spoke l
UrielLuci had gripped me tightly, still sitting in his arms. Hushed whispers from the other gods filled my ears as they gathered around Zeus. Most likely discussing the next plan of action. My mom still sat at my feet, rubbing them, her tears dropping on my ankles.“Mom?” she raised her head, tears still going down her cheeks. “All along, I should have asked for help.” The blanket covering her body was gripped tighter around her neck. “I had no clue those deep terrible thoughts were from, him.”“Mom,” I whispered again. Luci let the tight hold around my waist loosen, his eyes red from his own tears. My arms wrapped around my mom, who muttered a ‘thank you’ to Luci. Dad continued to wrap his wings around us, the small family that I had known most of my life and now grown with Vulcan hovering over us. My head glanced upward seeing the large bearded god in his battle attire.Pushing my arm out, I beckoned him to join us. Dad let him in gladly as he hugged me tightly. “You’ve got a lot t
