CHAPTER 7: Forgiveness Yet She Was Prideful

“WHAT is happening here?” The entire messed up room rumbled at its Alpha’s presence as Calvin walked inside, towards his trembling mate.

Raine’s eyes were filled with horror and shock, yet much to my expectations, regret did not follow. I was actually thinking she’s still going to regret pushing me into these shards, almost killing me if I ever had an actual human body.

“Ugh . . .” I slowly groaned as I felt the sharp ceramic digging deeper into my skin. For a Luna who goes from one war to another, this is nothing, but for this to happen inside the pack house was something my body did not prepare for.

Damn her.

Damn her to hell.

“Did anything happen to you?” Calvin went over to his mate, scanning her for any injuries. Oh, come on. I’m here laying on the ground—in a shard-littered ground.

“I-I . . .” Raine flashes a look on her worried mate, her lips shaking in tremor before her eyes once more goes back to me which I responded with a raised brow.

“What?” I grumble, slowly clenching my arms to lift myself with my elbows. I was tilted slightly on the ground, my head and upper shoulder still up, yet my lower back was already getting stabbed with these annoying shards.

“I-I . . .” I wait for her to let out a word of apology. Perhaps I could still swallow the fact that a dignified woman was the mate of the love of my life, and would probably sit in the Luna position, but to think that she can’t utter a single apology; then I guess there would be nothing to consider.

I push myself up, gathering every strength I can take to get it together. Calvin still has his mate on his side, pulling her waist close to his own.

Considering how he’s still looking at me up and down, as though he isn’t seeing anything, I suppose my rough-textured bloody dress covered every drop of blood puncturing my back.

Raine was fidgeting with her finger when I walked past them. “Save it.” I rolled my eyes, muttering under my breath when I was a meter away from them.

Calvin took a quick turn to look at me

and Raine—as if afraid that her Alpha mate would see the condition she has made me fall into, saw this action before loudly announcing, “It-It was my fault, I-I pushed her.” she clenched her fists before lowering her head in order to avoid my eyes.

Goddess, how insincere.

“What—Oh, shite, Maryna.” Calvin’s face shifted from confusion to realization all so suddenly when she stared at Raine and then turned to me.

His eyes blinked once, twice, before he glanced over to his mate and to me, as though reluctant if he’s supposed to leave her side or stay like a coward.

Just with this simple reluctance of his, my insides churned with another wave of jealousy.

I waited for him to question her mate. I don’t know, maybe get mad at her for doing something to his Luna. He could at least do that.

But when silence remained reigning in the living room, I popped every hope l had of him ever taking my side even for a moment. With this simple gesture of him not even trying to hold a woman accountable because she’s his soul counterpart, then I don’t think I can even do anything about this.

“It’s fine. I’m fine. I . . . will head over to the pack doctor. Nothing I haven’t-haven't experienced before.” I flashed him a silly smile.

A smile I would often show him after winning a war or conquering yet another pack.

I bite my lip in pain externally and internally before limping away from the two. I guess they really don’t have any intention to help nor say sorry.

I swallowed the lump stuck in my throat before walking my way back to the pack house and to the doctor. This will heal in a few minutes if it was a scratch, but I can’t let the stabbed shards heal together with my skin.

Thirty minutes after the doctor did her job, I was about to head over to my room when a person I didn’t expect to have still stayed here suddenly came into sight.

“Mrs. Jenkins.” I gritted her name on my teeth, stopping to look at her. With her eyes down the floor, she fumbled with her fingers.

“I-I’m so sorry, Luna.” she muttered low under her breath.

“I simply cannot . . . reject the Alpha’s order. He told me to give everything to Lady Raine.” she added before finally raising her gaze at me. I’m particularly not sure what to feel about this situation.

Somehow, I feel satisfied that at least after every shitty thing that has happened to me today, someone still mustered the courage to say the only word I was waiting to hear.

“I understand.” I replied. And though my voice was stoic, it was sincere. I do understand that the best designer in the pack still can’t defy her Alpha.

Of course, given that even the Luna can’t.

My heart is simply acting out of envy which I hope will soon cease. It’s a good thing I’m still in position, I think that’s what all that matters now.

I made a promise with Calvin’s mother that I shall reign with his son. I still reckon her words, her last breath, her tight grip on my hand as she laid steady-still on the mattress that was already getting cold from her body that lost its warmth.

“I hope you will be there to straighten my son’s shortcomings, Maryna. My dear daughter.”

Her words still lingered everywhere. In my bed. In my thoughts. In the air.

It runs in my veins and trails behind my silhouette, reminding me of every single thing the Luna has done to me to which I owe an entire lifetime to serve in the pack.

This is what keeps me breathing and alive. The main purpose for me to even continue living. Because if I’m not the Luna, then what am I? Who am I?

“W-what can I do to make it up to you, Luna?” Pulling me away from my thoughts, Mrs. Jenkins’s voice was trembling, fighting back tears that were threatening to cascade down her cheeks.

This alone was enough for me to know that this loyal designer was simply forced out of her own will to give away the dresses I ordered her to make.

“Mrs. Jenkins.” one of my hands is holding the railings to the stairs to hold myself up, and with my other hand, I gather the remaining encouragement within me and place my trust on her as I pat her shaky shoulder.

“Please make me a gorgeous dress. Something that will make me shine in that ball. Only me.” I plaster a smile on my face—as much smile I can make with my current situation.

Mrs. Jenkins balled her trembling palm into a fist before nodding with sheer determination glinting in her eyes.

“I will never fail you.” She can’t fail me as I have no expectations, but if she’s determined, then I simply cannot pop that bubble away.

She knows my taste and how to do it, this explains the courage she has now.

Afterall, experience imparts ability on what to do and confidence makes you wise enough to do it.

I place my index finger on my hand as a sign for her to keep her voice down. I smirk before winking at her. Her eyes snapped wide at my inelegant gesture she wasn’t so used to.

“We can’t have the Alpha’s ears hearing more about this. Who knows when he’s going order you to give that one dress to Raine again.” I whispered in which she responded with a nod, pursing her lips inside her mouth as though to shut them up.

I cover my mouth when a yawn suddenly slips out of my mouth and I flash a smile.

I need to rest.

“Off you go, Mrs. Jenkins.” I wave my hand before giving her one last, lopsided smile, almost sickly.

She nodded and I headed back to my

room with a contented mind and a healing body. Well I guess the word ‘sorry’ has passed through the day with a great result.

Well, forgiveness doesn’t excuse the crime. It just means that I’m no longer willing to be the victim.

It was still past noon and I was already on the bed. How can a Luna rest when scattered documents lay helpless on my study table?

I was about to let the darkness succumb to my weary body when a soft knock prevented me from doing so.

“Who is it?” I loudly asked, still in the bed cuddling with my thick sheets. “It’s me, Calvin.” The Alpha’s words penetrated through the large doors.

I really don’t want anything to do with him right now, but at least he’s reaching out to me first, initiating a conversation which doesn’t really happen a lot these days.

I mean, what werewolf would continuously visit another woman’s room when he already has a mate, right? I groan sitting up and muttering a small ‘come in’.

The door tweaked open and Calvin peaked first before entering and sitting at the edge of my bed.

“What are you here for, Alpha?” I scowled at him, looking away. His hand crept into my foreleg that was inside the furry bed sheets.

His hand was going back and forth as though he was trying to say something with a language only his hand gesture right now speaks, by uttering his apology and sincerity on his little rubs.

“Maryna.” he called at me, and though annoyed, I turned my head back to him, staring daggers in his eyes which were burning with seriousness.

“What?” I snapped. His forehead puckered at my response. I used to talk to him like this? Was it already disrespectful? Should I be setting boundaries now that he has a mate?

His jaw tightened and he took his hand back from my leg.

“We’ve been together ever since we were in our own mother’s arms.” he initiated, looking away at the huge painting of me on the wall.

“Say it, Calvin.” I urged him. Of course, when he starts being all comical and reminisces everything as though counting things he’s given me throughout the entirety of my life.

“I’m well aware of everything you and your mother has done for me. If you don’t have anything to say, please leave and fix my picture frame on the drawer beside the door.” I raise my brows, face scrunching up in disgust.

He evidently sucked a huge amount of breath before letting it out to purposely show me how distressed he is in this conversation we’re having.

Sometimes, life offers you options you don’t want to choose, but you must pick one or lose them all, yet out of all things he’s told me today, I didn’t expect him to say,

“Tell Raine you’re forgiving her.” he utters, looking away. My clenched hand instantly loosened from its tight grip on the sheets.

What?

It shows respect as it was gazing up at me to answer my question. She was thinking hard before saying,“Dark and . . . menacingly . . elegant?” she answered which everyone agreed upon. I then turned my gaze towards Raine who was already shaking in fear before a mocking smile unconsciously appeared on my face. “What do you think, doesn’t this dress speak a lot like me, Ladies?” I pointed my closed fan up and down at Raine’s obstinate posture. The audience was hesitant, but after a few seconds of staring at the gown the star of today’s ball was wearing, they slowly saw the picture I was trying to tell and agreed, instantly murmuring to themselves. The fun then began after that

The Penston Pack gasped at their Luna’s lunatic behavior, but at this point, there was no stopping me. I had enough of her, and now that she’s cut the remaining string of patience I have, I can no longer keep my stance.“Ah! Calvin!” She was

I didn’t know if it was like a baby, she was already satisfied enough to shut her mouth after seeing me get hurt by his mate, or if it was plain shock. To avoid tuning my anger even more on her, I resorted to simply believe the latter. “You will never, ever call her that again.” Calvin muttered, yet I didn’t look at him, I lowered my head instead, staring at my sandals as I felt them distancing away. They say, how are you supposed to grasp the future when you’re still clinging on to the past. It was a quote I’ve always reminded myself of back then. Breathe in . . .Breathe out . . .I tried to level my head tinto focus. Shooing the black dots puckering up my vision. Before I knew it, Calvin’s orbs turned into midnight black with worry plastered on it. I was back in the Imperial Pack with Lucius in front of me, holding my shoulders as I sat on top of the table. How did I—“Wh . . . yo . . . hey . . .” His words were blurry. It’s not reaching my ears due to the penetrating sound of something that seems to be ringing. “Maryna!” Lucius’ voice increased and my head went back to where it came from. “W-what?” I muttered, still unconscious. His brows creased as he assessed my features. “Fuck, you’re shaking.” he hissed and took some water fr

His eyes darkened whilst mine widened. The tease has gone too far! Those midnight black eyes looked down at me with burning lust beneath them. A fire that’s definitely going to hurt. She’s a close friend of Lucius so mind what you say.“You’re going to be a queen, right? A Queen that was once a criminal, exiled from her pack. How ironic!” she mumbled and I nodded.
