When I return to my office, she's still there, sipping her cappuccino and squinting at me suspiciously. "Where did you go?" she says softly.

"Sorting out some things," I reply, grabbing the papers from the desk. She keeps staring at me with narrowed eyes. "Stay here with me, please? I'm almost done, and then we can grab lunch."

She huffs but stays seated beside me. I smile at her and analyze the remaining files in my hand, inputting the information into the hospital tablet.
