Zoey went for her hospital appointment. It appeared there was a slip-up at the Southgrove hospital as the test conducted by the private hospital in Northwell came up negative. There were no fetal deformities or other abnormalities.

Zoey was caught in a whirlwind of emotions, and it was exhausting. Wanting to be sure, she asked again, "Are you absolutely certain my scan showed no abnormalities? Maybe you read the scan wrong?"

The level of care at private hospitals was generally higher. The nurse gave Zoey a strange look and insisted, "We wouldn't miss such an important detail from the scan." It was as if Zoey had asked an absurd question.

Zoey nodded her head in a daze. The nurse had a point. Since both hospitals had given her the wrong diagnosis, there was surely foul play at hand. She was right to feel uneasy when she had run into Sarah at the hospital in Southgrove the other day. Sarah had no reason to visit an OB/GYN if she was not pregnant.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Zo
