Two Hundred and fourteen

CHAPTER 214

Brittany looked at her cell phone that had just fallen with her on the floor, it wasn't that far away, but Kevin was there. Kevin was also looking in the same direction, at Brittany's cell phone as she tried to call Nicholas.

The call was connected, Brittany could even hear Nicholas' voice on the other side.

[Hello, Brittany? What's up with the late-night call?]

In a state of panic, Brittany shouted. "Kevin's here! He's-"

Before Brittany could finish speaking, Kevin had already stood up and grabbed the cell phone on the floor, he then turned off Brittany's cell phone and raised it in the air. "Let's not get the police between us. We have to solve this problem together."

Kevin's calm but intimidating way of speaking frightened Brittany. The girl gave Kevin a sharp look, she really hated the man who had been her boyfriend for almost a year now. Given the chance, Brittany stood up and took a step back, not wanting to get too close to Kevin. She was a total red flag.

"What do you want, Kevin? I already put you in jail, I don't want anything to do with you."

"But you're pregnant, Britt. The accident happened because you thought I was cheating on you, liking Alicia who I only met that day. This is all a misunderstanding."

Brittany held her hands out in front of her, suppressing every word that came out of her mouth. Brittany knew Kevin was trying to manipulate her again, but this time Brittany wasn't going to be fooled. She looked around her, trying to find something she could use to protect herself or simply keep Kevin away from her.

Brittany's cell phone was in Kevin's hands, she couldn't call emergency calls or even Nicholas. From the screen, Brittany could see that Nicholas had tried to call her several times, but because of the silent mode enabled on the phone, Kevin hadn't noticed.

She took a step back and brandished her fork, because when Kevin suddenly walked into her empty house, Brittany was enjoying a salad alone. Everyone was away, and Brittany couldn't ask anyone for help. And Brittany knew who she was dealing with.

"I ended our relationship."

"I already know," Kevin said indifferently. He shrugged his shoulders and grinned victoriously. After all, it was just the two of them in the house. Kevin had complete power. "But I can't let you go. It's an interesting experience to be romantically involved with you. I didn't intentionally commit a crime, I want to make it right, Brittany. You wouldn't end a romance that you've been in for years, just because of a misunderstanding, would you?"

But Brittany did not accept Kevin's words. She laughed bitterly. "You almost killed me, asshole! You crashed the car into a tree, and you wanted to run away, making me look like a drunk offender. You want everyone to think that I'm crazy, that I'm the bad guy and you're the victim!"

Hearing all of Brittany's words, Kevin's true colors came to the surface. Kevin's face, which previously looked hopeful to Brittany, now turned sour. The look in Kevin's eyes turned sharp, the man displayed his dislike for the words spoken by Brittany.

"You're being rude again, um?"

Brittany thrust the fork forward, trying to get Kevin away from her even though the girl already knew it was all pointless and a waste of time.

"You dare point that fork at me, Britt? Do you want me to die?"

"Get lost, you bastard!"

The harsh language was unbearable, Brittany cursed. She kept backing up her steps in panic.

As Brittany retreated, her heart racing with fear, Kevin's expression darkened. The confrontation intensified, and the room felt claustrophobic, filled with tension and echoes of their tumultuous history.

"I told you, Brittany, we must resolve this peacefully. There's no escaping it," Kevin persisted, his tone cold and unforgiving.

But Brittany, driven by fear and rejection, kept backing away. The fork in her hand trembled, a feeble attempt to ward off the threat looming over Kevin. The atmosphere in the room crackled with intensity as the two former lovers circled each other.

As the situation reached its breaking point, a sudden knock on the door startled them both. The unexpected interruption caught Kevin off guard, giving Brittany time to breathe. She lowered her fork, her eyes never leaving Kevin.

The door creaked open, revealing Nicholas, Brittany's worried friend who had been trying to reach her. His eyes widened at the sight before him. There was a strained silence between Kevin and Brittany.

"What's going on here?" Nicholas demanded, his gaze flicking between the two. He pulled out a gun and pointed it at Kevin, staring warily at the man who now raised both hands in the air. "Why are you here?!"

"I've been released from prison, Detective. I was released on remission."

Nicholas' brow furrowed, he stared in disbelief. "You want me to believe you, hm?"

"You can confirm it through my lawyer. We went through the legal process, and I proved my innocence and only received probation. I'm on parole," Kevin explained.

Despite the gun pointed at him, Kevin didn't panic at all.

Brittany, frustrated, retorted, "Don't listen to him, Nicholas! He's the reason why I ended up in the hospital. He's dangerous! He can't possibly get out of jail after being found guilty by the judge, he tricked you!"

"I'm not lying!" Kevin shouted, not accepting being accused like that by Brittany. Kevin looked at Brittany and continued, "I got out of jail because I was innocent. Why should innocent people be punished?"

Nicholas, sensing the danger in the situation, stepped cautiously into the room, trying to ease the tension. "Alright, you two, let's take a step back. Kevin, put the phone down and let's talk. Brittany, put down the fork. We can solve this problem without any more drama."

Nicholas' eyes watched the two people take turns, he was cautious and alert.

Brittany looked at Kevin, she was unsure of Nicholas' orders.
