CHAPTER 214
Brittany looked at her cell phone that had just fallen with her on the floor, it wasn't that far away, but Kevin was there. Kevin was also looking in the same direction, at Brittany's cell phone as she tried to call Nicholas.
The call was connected, Brittany could even hear Nicholas' voice on the other side.
[Hello, Brittany? What's up with the late-night call?]
In a state of panic, Brittany shouted. "Kevin's here! He's-"
Before Brittany could finish speaking, Kevin had already stood up and grabbed the cell phone on the floor, he then turned off Brittany's cell phone and raised it in the air. "Let's not get the police between us. We have to solve this problem together."
Kevin's calm but intimidating way of speaking frightened Brittany. The girl gave Kevin a sharp look, she really hated the man who had been her boyfriend for almost a year now. Given the chance, Brittany stood up and took a step back, not wanting to get too close to Kevin. She was a total red flag.
"What do you want, Kevin? I already put you in jail, I don't want anything to do with you."
"But you're pregnant, Britt. The accident happened because you thought I was cheating on you, liking Alicia who I only met that day. This is all a misunderstanding."
Brittany held her hands out in front of her, suppressing every word that came out of her mouth. Brittany knew Kevin was trying to manipulate her again, but this time Brittany wasn't going to be fooled. She looked around her, trying to find something she could use to protect herself or simply keep Kevin away from her.
Brittany's cell phone was in Kevin's hands, she couldn't call emergency calls or even Nicholas. From the screen, Brittany could see that Nicholas had tried to call her several times, but because of the silent mode enabled on the phone, Kevin hadn't noticed.
She took a step back and brandished her fork, because when Kevin suddenly walked into her empty house, Brittany was enjoying a salad alone. Everyone was away, and Brittany couldn't ask anyone for help. And Brittany knew who she was dealing with.
"I ended our relationship."
"I already know," Kevin said indifferently. He shrugged his shoulders and grinned victoriously. After all, it was just the two of them in the house. Kevin had complete power. "But I can't let you go. It's an interesting experience to be romantically involved with you. I didn't intentionally commit a crime, I want to make it right, Brittany. You wouldn't end a romance that you've been in for years, just because of a misunderstanding, would you?"
But Brittany did not accept Kevin's words. She laughed bitterly. "You almost killed me, asshole! You crashed the car into a tree, and you wanted to run away, making me look like a drunk offender. You want everyone to think that I'm crazy, that I'm the bad guy and you're the victim!"
Hearing all of Brittany's words, Kevin's true colors came to the surface. Kevin's face, which previously looked hopeful to Brittany, now turned sour. The look in Kevin's eyes turned sharp, the man displayed his dislike for the words spoken by Brittany.
"You're being rude again, um?"
Brittany thrust the fork forward, trying to get Kevin away from her even though the girl already knew it was all pointless and a waste of time.
"You dare point that fork at me, Britt? Do you want me to die?"
"Get lost, you bastard!"
The harsh language was unbearable, Brittany cursed. She kept backing up her steps in panic.
As Brittany retreated, her heart racing with fear, Kevin's expression darkened. The confrontation intensified, and the room felt claustrophobic, filled with tension and echoes of their tumultuous history.
"I told you, Brittany, we must resolve this peacefully. There's no escaping it," Kevin persisted, his tone cold and unforgiving.
But Brittany, driven by fear and rejection, kept backing away. The fork in her hand trembled, a feeble attempt to ward off the threat looming over Kevin. The atmosphere in the room crackled with intensity as the two former lovers circled each other.
As the situation reached its breaking point, a sudden knock on the door startled them both. The unexpected interruption caught Kevin off guard, giving Brittany time to breathe. She lowered her fork, her eyes never leaving Kevin.
The door creaked open, revealing Nicholas, Brittany's worried friend who had been trying to reach her. His eyes widened at the sight before him. There was a strained silence between Kevin and Brittany.
"What's going on here?" Nicholas demanded, his gaze flicking between the two. He pulled out a gun and pointed it at Kevin, staring warily at the man who now raised both hands in the air. "Why are you here?!"
"I've been released from prison, Detective. I was released on remission."
Nicholas' brow furrowed, he stared in disbelief. "You want me to believe you, hm?"
"You can confirm it through my lawyer. We went through the legal process, and I proved my innocence and only received probation. I'm on parole," Kevin explained.
Despite the gun pointed at him, Kevin didn't panic at all.
Brittany, frustrated, retorted, "Don't listen to him, Nicholas! He's the reason why I ended up in the hospital. He's dangerous! He can't possibly get out of jail after being found guilty by the judge, he tricked you!"
"I'm not lying!" Kevin shouted, not accepting being accused like that by Brittany. Kevin looked at Brittany and continued, "I got out of jail because I was innocent. Why should innocent people be punished?"
Nicholas, sensing the danger in the situation, stepped cautiously into the room, trying to ease the tension. "Alright, you two, let's take a step back. Kevin, put the phone down and let's talk. Brittany, put down the fork. We can solve this problem without any more drama."
Nicholas' eyes watched the two people take turns, he was cautious and alert.
Brittany looked at Kevin, she was unsure of Nicholas' orders.
CHAPTER 215 Kevin refused to be invited to sit together to talk. He then put both hands in his pockets, and looked at Nicholas casually. With a deep sigh, Kevin spoke to Nicholas. "Detective, listen to me, I'm innocent and I have a discharge document and it's official from the police. You can find that information through your colleagues in prison." Nicholas didn't react. He was still pointing the gun at Kevin. "I will leave now." "You can't run away!" "I'm not running away, you can find me at home," Kevin said, then shrugged his shoulders indifferently. Kevin smiled and looked at Brittany as if she had no problem. "I came to this house because I wanted to talk to Brittany about the future. I think you two have a close relationship, so it doesn't matter if you end up knowing the situation." Nicholas' brow furrowed. "What situation are you talking about?" Kevin looked at Brittany, and with a widening smile, the man who had just graduated from a top university in New York City said,
CHAPTER 216 Kevin left Brittany's house feeling happy. He hadn't expected to get Brittany and Nicholas stuck in such an awkward situation. It was a complete victory, after Nicholas had humiliated and thrown him in jail. Kevin left in his father's car. Meanwhile, back in the house, Brittany was finally able to land her ass on the couch. She breathed a sigh of relief that Kevin had finally moved away and left the house. She massaged her head, which felt dizzy. Like something hard had just hit her head. Nicholas was still standing there, he looked around with a confused expression. The atmosphere was really awkward and he felt guilty. Brittany was like his sister, but it seemed like Brittany was growing up and Nicholas didn't realize that. Nicholas took a few breaths before finally getting the courage to start a conversation between the two of them. "Brittany, are you really having a baby?" Brittany, who was already crying, could only look at Nicholas regretfully. She nodded weakly a
CHAPTER 217 Nicholas stopped the car when he reached his house. The sound of the car horn brought Alan out of the house. Alan's face looked very curious as he stood at the door, waiting for his son. The wait continued until Nicholas and Brittany got out of the car. "Brittany?" "Hello, Uncle Gray. I'm sorry to visit so late at night," Brittany said, handing Alan a bag of oranges. "I brought you some fruit." "Thank you," Alan said, accepting the plastic bag of fruit. Alan looked at Nicholas and realized that his son was trying to give him a code by blinking his eyes. Alan smiled and opened the door behind him. "You'd better go in first. It's very cold outside." "Okay, Uncle." Brittany was left sitting on the sofa, while Nicholas sat opposite her. Alan followed and sat next to Nicholas. Alan looked at Brittany and smiled a little. "I haven't seen you in a long time. Nick said you were sick, an accident?" There was a small gasp from Brittany, who smiled politely as she squeezed the
CHAPTER 218 "What? Brittany's pregnant?!" Alicia shut her mouth quickly. The girl was in shock from the news that Nicholas had brought her in the early hours of the morning. Nicholas still came to Alicia's flat and told her everything that happened. How Nicholas had just finished checking something related to the case, then received a call from Brittany, he went to check, and found Kevin at Brittany's house until the most shocking news that he had never expected before was Brittany's pregnancy. Alicia was at a loss for words over this shocking revelation. Her eyes were wide and when she lowered her hand from her mouth, she still had to convince herself to be sure. "Brittany... she's really pregnant, is it Kevin's child?" Nicholas nodded weakly, he wanted to refuse to admit the fact, but Brittany was indeed carrying Kevin's baby. It was something that could not be avoided. "Unfortunately yes. I couldn't even point the gun at Kevin because I was too shocked. I didn't know who to side
CHAPTER 219 "Brittany must be having a hard time right now. She doesn't even dare to talk, even though Brittany and I are very close." Nicholas agreed, "I'll talk to Brittany and propose the idea. But, Alicia, we have to be vigilant. The threat from Kevin and the looming possibility of Ace's interference make every move risky." Alicia sighed, recognizing the complexity of the situation they faced. "I understand, Nick. We have to plan carefully, ensuring the safety of everyone involved. Perhaps we should also inform the police about Kevin's sudden release and the potential danger it poses." "I'm sure there's something wrong with the law, but Kevin has valid documents, Alicia. This is really strange." Alicia frowned and tried to ask another question. "Did he apply for remission or something?" "I heard so." After a long sigh, Alicia finally made a suggestion to Nicholas. "Or, put it this way, now we focus on Brittany. We need to get her to tell us the whole story. Besides, it's alr
CHAPTER 220 Angela sat in a chair, with The Fixer on the other side, staring at her with his Joker-like smile, wide and intimidating. There were no cigars like any other day, as The Fixer was holding a cup of coffee in his left hand. One of The Fixer's eyebrows rose as he tasted the coffee his client had given him. He sighed with satisfaction and said, "This is good coffee, taken from far away and very authentic." The Fixer then looked at Angela on the other side. "Would you like to try it first, Mrs. Vasyhlchenko?" The sarcastic tone rang clear in Angela's ears. The woman clucked, then crossed her arms over her chest. Tapping the surface of the table in front of her, Angela said in a firm voice. "Where is Ace? You said you had information about my son." "Wow, you still call him 'your son' even though he hates you so much?" The laughter that broke out made Angela even more annoyed. She had not come all this way to listen to the useless ramblings of a mobster like The Fixer. But An
CHAPTER 221 "I... I can assure you that this project will succeed. The profits are great, and I have an influential partner," Angela replied, her tone wavering slightly. The Fixer chuckled, a low, mocking sound that echoed in the room. "Guarantees, my dear, are as good as the paper they're written on. I deal in guarantees, not promises." Angela, sensing an urgency to get The Fixer's help, dug deeper into his offer. "I can give you a guarantee, an asset that you can seize if the project doesn't go according to plan. You'll have something tangible, ensuring your compensation remains in place." The Troubleshooter raised his eyebrows, intrigued by the offer. "Collateral, you say? Show me what you have in mind." The Fixer's question hangs in the air, overshadowing Angela's impromptu offer. Angela, momentarily caught off guard, gathered her thoughts, realizing that she was negotiating with a wily and unpredictable adversary. "I assure you, The Fixer, my project is straightforward. I ha
CHAPTER 222 "Is there anything I can do to improve your mood, ma'am?" But Angela wasn't in the mood to talk, so she took a deep breath and started to speak. "I'm not in the mood to talk about it. I'm in a really bad mood!" Holding out a piece of paper, she said to her personal driver. "Go to that address right now. I need to find the owner of the boutique before he leaves. He is my only hope of finding Ace." The man sitting behind the wheel accepted the paper and nodded obediently. "Yes, ma'am." And with full courage, the man who had worked for Angela for a long time immediately went to the address written there. He knew Mrs. Vashylchenko was in a bad mood and the work had to be really good to make her boss happy. The happier Angela was, the more money the personal driver would receive. Arriving at the boutique, Angela found it closed. Their doors were shut tight and the lights in the store were not on. While scanning the surroundings, Angela also adjusted her glasses. "Why is t
