CHAPTER 204
Ace paused, looking at Selena. "I have my reasons, and let's just say this involves solving a personal problem. You, Selena, are my ticket to dismantling Amanda's web of deception."
Their conversation was interrupted by the distant wail of sirens, signaling the arrival of the authorities. Time was running out, and Ace urged Selena to collect the money quickly. "We need to disappear before the law catches up with us. The Fixer won't be the only one looking for answers."
As Selena stuffed the money into the bag, she couldn't help but feel a mixture of gratitude and uncertainty. Ace seemed like a complicated ally, but his words hinted at a common goal to escape the shadows of the past.
With their bags filled, Ace and Selena walked towards the exit. Before leaving, Selena cast one last look at the mansion, now tainted by memories of betrayal and violence. The night promised a new beginning, but the journey ahead was fraught with uncertainty and the lingering shadows of their actions.
Ace quickly takes the car he got from Amanda, then leaves the mansion that Amanda built with the proceeds of illegal drug deals. Selena feels guilty, but the money in her purse has really made her forget herself. Let's just say that Selena doesn't know herself, she was given a job, money and even a life, but Selena killed Amanda who had given all those things to her.
The car then stopped on a quiet street, Ace had chosen that area for her stop long ago. Ace's eyes looked around through the dark car window, he then said, "We'll part ways here. I wish you luck with the money."
Selena looked at Ace with a confused look mixed with fear. Fear filled her head. She had just killed another person and it was a first for Selena. Although she didn't do it directly, Selena was still at the scene. She saw everything, one by one, scene by scene, without missing a beat. She closed her eyes when she remembered Amanda's pleading gaze not to be killed, but then she hurriedly pushed it away.
"Alright. I'll go down now."
Ace nodded. "May we never meet again."
Selena couldn't agree or disagree with Ace's last words, she just took off the seat belt protecting her chest and got out of the car. The girl hugged tightly the bag of cash she had gotten from Amanda's house. There was a strange feeling running through her chest. She looked around, a sudden feeling of guilt came up and began to haunt her.
On the way to her own clothing store, Selena couldn't stop feeling followed and she always felt anxious. She had to think of an escape, or at least a safe haven.
On the other side, Ace turned the wheel in the other direction. The man looked at the several large bags of money he kept in the back seat, before turning to the right side. So far, no one had followed him, Ace was sure he would be safe. Ace then drove to the house Amanda had given him and parked the car. Grinning, he looked at himself in the rearview mirror. Ace's face had changed a lot since he entered the prison a year ago. He had bags under his eyes from staying up late and overthinking about Alicia who was now Nicholas' girlfriend.
"Alicia, soon we can leave New York City and start all over. But before that, should I kill Nicholas for you?"
Ace sighed in annoyance, he removed his face from the glass and got out of the car while lifting the large bags. He intended to keep all his stolen money in the house given to him by his victim, Amanda. It was the same pattern as what she had done to Jill and Jason earlier.
As Selena hurried down the dimly lit street, the weight of the bag clutched in her hand seemed to grow heavier with each step. The cityscape around her was shrouded in shadows, reflecting the uncertainty that now surrounded her life. The money she carried was like a double-edged sword, offering a way out but at the cost of her innocence.
Entering her clothing store, Selena can't shake the feeling of being watched. She quickly devised a plan to change her appearance and hide for a while. Disguise, she thought, might be the only way out of the guilt that haunted her and threatened to consume her.
Meanwhile, Ace walks down the deserted streets, his mind filled with bags of money and the plans he has to start a new life. The house Amanda gave him is a symbol of his twisted sense of justice, a place where stolen wealth finds a strange sanctuary. However, Ace's thoughts are clouded by his unresolved feelings for Alicia, who is now involved with Nicholas.
While stacking bags inside the house, Ace reflects on the choices that brought him to this point. The desire for revenge had driven his actions, but the road ahead was still bleak. He pondered the options for confronting Nicholas, wondering if violence was the only way to fix their intertwined fates.
"Should I kill Nicholas, or not?" Ace laid his body down on the sofa, he looked at the worn ceiling of the house. Playing with the coin in his hand, Ace tried to wrap his mind around Alicia, moving on to Angela. "Should I be on Mom's side, or Dad's? Mom will destroy the world, while Dad will control the world. I didn't expect that I would be born to parents as psychopathic and annoying as them."
Ace then moved on, he checked the pile of bags containing money, opening them one by one to make sure. Nodding his head, the young man began to think of wild and extreme plans to take Alicia with him. After all, Alicia was his life and Ace wanted her to go with him.
Whatever the reason, no one could stand in his way. Alicia had to be his.
While looking at the mirror in the corner of the room, Ace looked straight at himself there. "Alicia, I'm coming."
CHAPTER 205Nicholas was sitting in the back seat and it was making Noel unable to stop complaining. The man kept looking at the rearview mirror while protesting to the colleague who was now his own boss. "Can you stop acting like a boss?"The man with the last name Gray looked up, he took his eyes off the phone screen and looked at Noel who was sitting in the driver's seat with the most annoying smile Noel had ever seen. "Do you have a problem with this? I'm now a Chief, you should respect me."Noel rolled his eyes lazily and deliberately stepped on the gas pedal to make Nicholas surprised. Nicholas followed the sudden movement of the car and was forced to hold on to the side of the door, he looked angrily at Noel and shouted, "Are you crazy, hm? I almost hit my head you know."Noel's laughter sounded mocking. But he didn't look away at all and remained focused on the street in front of him. The streets of New York City were still as crowded as ever, mainly because people were starti
CHAPETR 206The revelation hung in the air like a big secret, and suddenly it hit Nicholas. "Wait! This adds another layer to the mystery we're looking for. If Alicia doesn't marry at 27, does that mean all her assets will go elsewhere?"Felix nodded thoughtfully, "Yes, it's all written in the letters of legacy. Madame Michelle appointed Christine as her replacement if Alicia refused to accept all the conditions she gave. An unusual condition, but they strongly believe in family and commitment. This is absolute and non-negotiable, as this letter has been signed and stamped through the legal process."Noel, who sensed the danger in this situation, leaned forward. "We need to find out who will receive the benefits, if Alicia doesn't get married. It could be someone who has a motive to disrupt the relationship or even put her in danger. And what about the children's hospital? Is there a connection we might have missed?"As the trio digs deeper into family secrets, corporate ties, and con
CHAPTER 207"I want to ask, why does Alicia have to get married? Aren't there a lot of female CEOs out there working, running their companies without marriage and family? This sounds unreasonable for a special requirement in the company."Noel nodded in agreement, "Nicholas is right. Marriage and company, what's the connection between those two different things? It doesn't make sense. Even a company organizes someone's marriage?"Felix chuckled, he sorted out the sheets of paper containing the financial records, gathered them together, then put them in a folder and the folder he put in his black tote bag. Felix's hands were intertwined on top of the black bag, before he finally looked at the two detectives who were looking at him curiously."You guys are right. But, I can't do much for tradition and the request for marriage was written in the family inheritance papers, Mrs. Michelle had even made a power of attorney to make the inheritance papers official and valid in the eyes of the
CHAPTER 208Anna hesitated, choosing her words carefully when dealing with Noel and Nicholas. "I can't say for sure, but Madame Michelle often mentioned a legacy , a vision that she wanted Alicia to fulfill. It involves not only running the company but also guarding it from unseen dangers. There is something Madame Michelle is hiding from all of us."Nicholas crossed his arms over his chest, looking very curious about the relationship between Star Corporation, Golden Group, and Alpha Company. He then spoke up again, "There is something we would like to know about Madame Michelle. In the five years that you have been working with her, have you discovered anything strange, anything odd, that might tend to put Michelle and her husband at risk?"Anna looked at Nicholas wordlessly, she seemed to be thinking. Because it took a few seconds, for her to finally speak up. "Don't businessmen always have competitors in the business world? It's a common thing. And, I can't determine if any of thes
CHAPTER 209Nicholas sensed a connection being made between Madame Michelle's past and her current actions. "So, this charity event isn't just about public relations for Alpha Company?"Anna nodded. "Exactly. It's an extension of Madame Michelle's mission to make a positive impact on society. She wants to leave a valuable experience to her business colleagues, that business is not just about profit and money. It is also about humanity and caring."As the detectives continued their conversation with Anna, a picture came to light of Madame Michelle as a woman driven by a deep sense of purpose. The threads of her life, intricately interwoven with family ties, corporate responsibilities, and a commitment to social causes, paint a complex portrait that is difficult to categorize easily.Noel, wanting to explore the potential relationship with the Golden Group further, asked, "Did Mrs. Michelle ever mention any specific issues or disagreements with Wilson Blake that could explain their tens
CHAPTER 210Nicholas patted Peter on the shoulder, as if to say that it was no big deal and not a problem. He then looked at the nurse in front of him."There's something we'd like to ask you, it's about Mrs. Michelle Hathaway."Nicholas introduced himself and explained their interest in understanding Mrs. Michelle's contribution to the hospital and her possible connection to the missing children. The nurse, after checking with the hospital administration, guided them to a conference room where they could discuss the matter in private. As the detectives sat across from the hospital representatives, they learned that Mrs. Michelle's donation had indeed been used to build a pediatric ward. The hospital staff thanked her for her generosity, and emphasized the positive impact she had on the community.Ben, the head of the hospital, was now sitting with the three detectives. Peter the junior was very enthusiastic, as this was his first experience with such a complex case at such a young ag
CHAPTER 211Everyone gathered at the dining table. Menus such as suckling goat, roast pork, grilled chicken, salad and others were already available on the table. Hendrick sat at the end, while his guests, Hailey, Louis and Kevin sat in the other chairs. It was a long enough table for four people."How about the food? You like it, don't you? Protein is good for your health, young people like Kevin need more protein to look fit." Hendrick pointed at Kevin who was silent, not even touching his food. "Don't waste this freedom on poor health, Kevin."Louis sighed, he stopped cutting the meat on his plate. His sad eyes with wrinkled lines scanned the surroundings. Kevin's face looked sour, while Hailey looked more relaxed there. His wife could even chop the steak without caring about her surroundings."You were right, Mr. Hendrick. Hendrick." Hailey nodded in agreement. She looked at Hendrick at the end of the table, then added. "If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have been able to see my so
CHAPTER 212Kevin, suddenly uncomfortable with his parents' expectations, interrupted, "I never asked you to pay a lawyer, Dad. I can handle my own mistakes."Louis sighed, his gaze shifting to the rearview mirror. "Kevin, this isn't just about this incident. It's about the choices you've made. I'm not going to let you throw away your future. You let those girls distract you with useless things, and you let yourself get stuck in trouble!"The car pulled into the driveway of their suburban home, and the family entered the quiet house. Tension hung in the air as they gathered in the living room. Hailey, who was unwilling to let the argument die down, turned to Louis."Why are you always being so hard on him? He's young, he'll learn from his mistakes."Louis paced the room, frustration clearly written on his face. "I want him to learn, Hailey, but I want him to learn the right way. Not by avoiding responsibility and getting involved with people like Hendrick."Hailey scoffed, "Hendrick h
