Chapter 255
After reaching the halfway point, Nicholas pulled the car over. He had to pull over because he was going to drop Alicia off there. Their destinations were different. Nicholas had to go to the police station, meet Noel and check if the license plate of the car that had been waiting in front of Mrs. Thompson's house all night belonged to Ace. Alicia, on the other hand, had to go check on Anna Parker, a personal secretary who worked on a freelance basis and did not stay in the office of her adoptive mother, Michelle Hathaway.
"Sorry for not being able to take you to the Star Corporation office, Alicia."
Alicia rolled her eyes lazily, then patted the arm of Nicholas who was sitting in the driving seat. "Come on, Nick. You're talking like a stranger. I'll call you when I'm done meeting with Anna Parker."
Nicholas looked at Alicia straight on. He felt both guilty and worried. "You promised you'd call me, didn't you?"
"Of course."
The smile on Nicholas' lips was finally there. He nodded his head and said, "Okay. See you soon, Alicia."
"Goodbye."
Alicia quickly got out of Nicholas' car and walked around. She crossed the street and saw a large building in front of her. After observing for a while, Alicia made her move. Alicia entered and was met by Charlotte. This was a good coincidence.
"Hi, good morning," Alicia greeted, trying to look familiar.
Charlotte, who had just finished hanging up a phone call from someone, looked up. She smiled a little, then greeted Alicia. "Hi, is there anything I can do for you?"
"Can I see Anna today?"
"Anna?"
"Anna Parker, I came here yesterday to meet with Anna, but she's no longer in the office. Maybe you can help me meet with her. Or she-"
"Sorry, Miss!" Charlotte interrupted Alicia's unfinished speech. "But is the Anna Parker you're looking for this Anna Parker?"
Charlotte showed her phone screen, there was a picture of Charlotte and Anna on it, and Alicia immediately nodded her head. "Looks like she's the Anna I'm looking for."
A small murmur could be heard from Charlotte as she pulled her phone away from Alicia. Shrugging, the girl who let her hair fall over her shoulders explained, "Anna Parker has submitted a letter of resignation to the management. She stops working from today."
"What?!"
Charlotte nodded her head. "She got another job, and submitted her resignation a few days ago. Since she has always met the company's targets, the management has no reason to keep her out of this company."
Alicia could not hide the shocked expression on her face. She bit her lips, which were polished with pink lipstick, and looked around in confusion. Alicia thought that she would go to Anna and ask her some questions about her parents' death. But Anna left before Alicia could find her.
"Is there anything else I can do for you?" asked Charlotte. Her voice breaking Alicia's attention, Alicia turned to Charlotte who was sitting behind the reception desk quietly. "I think you'd really like to meet Anna Parker."
"Um, do you have Anna's home address? Let me meet her outside the office," Alicia said, trying to find a way to meet Anna. No matter what, Alicia had to be able to meet Anna. "Or, another address where I can meet Anna."
"Did Anna do something bad to you? You've been insisting on looking for her since our first meeting, Miss."
Alicia mumbled under her breath, then she began to explain her purpose for coming. "She worked for my mother. Now, my mother is dead. But there's information that Anna has and I need to meet her to get that information. So, can you help me?"
Hearing Alicia's urgent words, Charlotte was concerned. She also had an emotional story between herself and her mother. This could not be avoided. Charlotte was melted by Alicia's strong will. She then said, "Wait a minute."
For a few minutes, Charlotte checked the computer in front of her. After checking, Charlotte took a paper and pen, wrote down an address on the paper, and handed it to Alicia. With a small smile, Charlotte explained what she knew.
"This is the address written in Anna's job application letter. This data is in the computer. I can't confirm whether Anna still lives at this address or not, but maybe you can check it out out of curiosity." Alicia happily accepted the paper. Alicia's brown eyes tried to scrutinize the address written by Charlotte. "Anna works well at this company. She doesn't leave a bad impression and the clients are very satisfied with her work. I hope she has the information you're looking for about your mother."
"Oh my, thank you very much, Miss Charlotte." Alicia lifted the paper into the air, she smiled with gratitude. "I really appreciate your kindness."
"You're welcome."
"I'll be going now. Again, thank you very much."
Alicia looked for a taxi that could take her to Anna's address. At least she had Anna's home address. Alicia just needed to make sure that Anna still lived there and they could meet.
The taxi driver who took Alicia to the address understood Alicia's situation. He moved very quickly, avoiding the endless traffic in New York City. And after a few minutes, they finally arrived at the address where Anna lived. It was a simple house next to other houses. It wasn't the typical luxurious house, but at least it looked neat and clean from the outside.
"We've arrived at your address, Miss," said the taxi driver. He handed her a bill and she paid him in cash without receiving any change.
Alicia looked at the house in front of her. She squinted, determined to say everything she wanted to ask about Michelle before knocking on Anna Parker's door.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
It took several knocks on the door to get the owner to come out and meet Alicia. Anna Parker opened the door and stared in shock at Alicia, she prepared to close the door, but Alicia immediately held it back with her foot.
"Wait! We need to talk!"
CHApter 256"No, don't meet me!"Anna didn't give up. She tried to push the door from the inside, and that made one of Alicia's feet even more trapped."My leg!"Alicia wasn't out of ideas. She quickly found a way. She was already holding the door with one hand and one foot, but since Alicia felt that Anna couldn't be talked out of it and still had a strong desire to close the door, Alicia was forced to expend all her strength there. It was like the two of them were in a pushing competition. Whoever succeeded in pushing the door would be the winner. But Anna didn't want to meet Alicia either. She pushed the door with all her might, not caring about Alicia's screams of pain as her foot was caught in the middle of the door. And Alicia was trying to take a shortcut. Alicia cursed, "Damn it! Take your hand away, Anna!"One strong push in the midst of the urgent situation finally won Alicia the game. She managed to push the door inward and send Anna tumbling backwards. Her ass landed right
CHAPTER 257Alicia tried to calm her mind that was filled with nonsense. A girl as young as Alicia had to be involved with death, fraud, mafia networks, and other horrible things all at once.Anna placed the melted ice pack on the table. She tried to look at Alicia, although the girl who was younger than Anna turned her gaze in another direction."Did this information... get my mother killed?"Anna shook her head weakly. "I don't know, I'm sorry."Unable to do anything about it, Alicia tried to rack her brains, trying to find a way to extract other information from Anna Parker. Alicia breathed silently, trying to stabilize her emotions that were about to explode. This was a very emotional moment, she had hoped to get information about her parents' killer, but ended up getting nothing.Alicia tried to wet her dry lips. She looked out, at the door that was still open due to the pushing and shoving between them."Who exactly is your boss?"The question made Anna gasp. She hesitated, but
CHAPTER 258Alicia stopped her steps when she arrived at the cemetery. She looked at the large sign above the cemetery gate and burst into tears."Damn, why am I crying again?" Alicia wiped away the tears with one hand, as her other hand was busy carrying a bouquet of roses. Alicia looked around, she felt embarrassed that some of the visitors had noticed her crying. "This is embarrassing."After catching her breath and drying her tear-dampened cheeks, Alicia continued on her way. She entered the cemetery in daylight. The snow was not too heavy that day. She could still step on the stepping stones provided by the cemetery staff in the city cemetery. Alicia passed other graves, before finally reaching her parents' grave.Alicia let out a long breath, making the steam from her cold mouth visible. The air was still cold, and the grave with Michelle's name on it was covered in snow. This winter, Alicia had cried a lot. The girl didn't think that her sadness in previous years was any sadder
CHAPTER 259Nicholas drove to the police station. He parked his car with the other cars in the parking lot and went inside. Tightening his coat around his body, Nicholas walked to meet Noel and Elden. He already had evidence, there was a license plate that Nicholas could look up, everything must be connected and Nicholas' guess that Ace had killed Alicia's parents must be right.Nicholas waved one hand in the air when he saw Noel and Elden talking at Elden's desk. They were busy at their computers and Nicholas walked over to them."How was it? Did you guys find anything?"Elden and Noel looked up, seeing Nicholas standing next to Elden's desk. Elden was a digital expert, just like Hendrick. He was part of the IT team for the serious crimes division and Elden did his job well."This car was bought five years ago, but the vehicle tax has not been paid since two years ago. It seems to have changed ownership, I'm not sure if it was sold to someone else or if the owner intentionally failed
CHAPTER 260Nicholas clenched his jaw, his mind racing in anticipation of the black car's next move. The chase took them through a maze of narrow alleys, the city lights reflecting on the wet pavement as raindrops began to fall. The tension in the car grew with every twist and turn.Elden's voice crackled on the phone, [Chief, the car is heading to the industrial park. We have to be careful; there is a maze there].Nicholas exchanged glances with Noel, both realizing that the stakes were rising. The industrial estate was known for its abandoned warehouses and hidden corners, the perfect place for a clandestine rendezvous or a dramatic escape."Can you see where the car is headed, Elden?"[I can't, Chief. There's a fork in the road ahead, if you can't catch up, we'll lose him."]Nicholas also felt that he was under pressure, he immediately tapped Noel lightly on the shoulder and shouted, "Faster, Noel. We can't lose him! I need to see the driver behind the car.""I've done my best, Nic
CHAPTER 261Nicholas and Noel are now taking apart the car in front of them using the tools they have. They both removed the license plate attached to the car and took pictures of it. After that, they also checked the inside of the car. Of course, they used complete protection to avoid leaving their fingerprints inside.Nicholas checked the driver's seat, and he swept through the upholstery, hoping to find anything that could be checked in the lab to prove that the driver was Ace.While Noel was still busy with the luminol in his hand, he checked the back of the car and checked if there was any blood left in the car.Noel's focus finally broke when he heard Nicholas shout, "Noel, I found it!"Noel got up. He walked over to Nicholas. Nicholas came out with a strand of hair in his hand. Noel had to furrow his brow to see it."Your eyes are very sharp, Nick."The compliment made Nicholas grin proudly. He put the tiny strand of hair into a small transparent plastic bag. It was zip plastic
CHAPTER 262Noel took a step forward from where he was standing. He scanned the faces of women who looked much older than him and tried to ask again, "Are they customers at this boutique?""A few days ago, a fashionably dressed woman came here. She checked in, but seemed to be in a hurry. Perhaps she had ordered clothes and needed them right away, but the boutique was closed, so I intended to do her a favor by telling her that the boutique was closed and she could go check another day."Nicholas and Noel exchanged glances. After a few pauses, Noel finally spoke again, "Then, was there anyone else looking for the owner of this boutique other than that woman?""Yes, it was a few days after that woman came. That man did the same thing. Looked around, and tried to open the door, but in the end, I had to tell him that the owner of this boutique doesn't exist." The woman tugged on her dog's leash, while the pitbull she was carrying twirled around her legs in a spoiled manner. "Before the tw
CHAPTER 263"To hear you tell it... does Selena have a husband? Why would she leave her child here while working?"The woman smiled, she seemed to rub her palms together as she continued, "From the beginning, Selena just came by herself. She raised and cared for Glen well. We never asked about Glen's father, but from the way she acted and the way she spoke, we could tell right away that... Selena didn't have a husband."The harsh reality had to be heard, and Nicholas became concerned for Selena."By the way...what is the need for you to look for Selena?"Nicholas took out his police ID card, and it made the woman in front of him startled."Oh my! Did something bad happen to Glen and Mrs. Selena?""No, no, everything is fine. But we needed to check because we couldn't find the two of them." The woman nodded her head. "May I know your name and what you do here?""My name is Lim Sara, I have a Korean surname from my father. I work here as a nanny for the children. And one of them is as G
