Two Hundred and fifty seven

CHAPTER 257

Alicia tried to calm her mind that was filled with nonsense. A girl as young as Alicia had to be involved with death, fraud, mafia networks, and other horrible things all at once.

Anna placed the melted ice pack on the table. She tried to look at Alicia, although the girl who was younger than Anna turned her gaze in another direction.

"Did this information... get my mother killed?"

Anna shook her head weakly. "I don't know, I'm sorry."

Unable to do anything about it, Alicia tried to rack her brains, trying to find a way to extract other information from Anna Parker. Alicia breathed silently, trying to stabilize her emotions that were about to explode. This was a very emotional moment, she had hoped to get information about her parents' killer, but ended up getting nothing.

Alicia tried to wet her dry lips. She looked out, at the door that was still open due to the pushing and shoving between them.

"Who exactly is your boss?"

The question made Anna gasp. She hesitated, but finally told Alicia the truth. "I can't tell you. My life was in danger if I leaked the information. That's why I resigned, she only knows the address of my office, I hope she won't find me here."

"I need that information to find the cause of my mother's death, as well as her killer," Alicia said, her tone a little demanding, she was getting desperate. "My mother never hurt anyone. She helped me, she helped many people, she even helped you. Why would you do this to her?!"

Anna bowed her head again. "I'm sorry, Miss. I really regret it. The money made me blind, and it was my fault."

Alicia stood up from her chair. She could still feel her legs throbbing with pain. It radiated from the soles of her feet, her fingers that were pinched by the door seemed to flow with painful sensations when Alicia stood up. But the girl endured it. No pain hurt her more than the pain of being left behind by the mother Alicia loved.

Her chest felt tight. The atmosphere in the room seemed intent on killing her with its painful tightness. The reality she received from Anna was suffocating. It hurt her, it really hurt her.

"I want you to tell me everything. Were you involved in my parents' murder? What were you doing in my parents' house? You didn't just steal data, did you?" Alicia moved, she picked up a knife that was stored on a shelf, quite close to the table they were talking on. Alicia pointed the knife at Anna, and made Anna back her chair carefully. "If you're still hiding things from me, I won't hesitate to stab you with this knife!"

"I-i'm sorry, Miss! But I really only stole that data, I only took the list of wealth and assets that had just been audited by Mr. Felix Blake, the lawyer at Alpha Company." Anna tried to stand up from the chair, even though her back was still hurting just like Alicia's. "I meant no harm and I didn't kill your mother. I cared for Mrs. Michelle like my own mother, I cared for her deeply and her death broke my heart too, Alicia."

All of Anna's heartfelt words made Alicia soften. She lowered the knife in her hand, but her blue eyes continued to watch Anna. Alicia was like a bear ready to pounce on its prey to turn it into dinner. She was ready to attack, taking down her opponent in one fell swoop.

Seeing Alicia who was not as angry as before, made Anna finally dare to reveal more. "Your mother... Mrs. Michelle... she said she wanted to see you marry someone."

Alicia gasped. She blinked, regaining her focus that had been lost due to being clouded by mortal anger.

"Your mother... wants to see someone make you happy." Anna squeezed the sides of her skirt nervously, before finally continuing, "She cares about you a lot. Your mother ... feels that you've had a very hard childhood and she ... missed out on a lot by leaving you at the orphanage."

Alicia's eyebrows knitted together deeply. "What?"

Anna swallowed, she had no idea that revealing a fact would be this hard. This was a big secret that Michelle had hidden from everyone, including Alicia. But in this situation, Anna thought that it was the right time to speak up.

Facts are bitter, but they must still be said so that they don't become a burden.

After catching her breath, Anna continued her words that were stuck on the tip of her tongue. "Alicia... did you know that Madame Michelle is your biological mother?"

At that moment, Alicia's body trembled. Anna's words forced their way into Alicia's ears and Alicia could not accept them. What kind of fact was that?

Alicia's tongue froze, she was lost for words and just stood there staring at Anna in confusion. This was a difficult fact to accept.

"Madame Michelle was the biological mother who left you in the orphanage, she was the woman who got you adopted by her old friend who was a drug mafia. Madame Michelle regretted it, but she had nothing to take you with. Until then, your parents had an accident and you were again adopted by Mrs. Michelle's distant relative. That's your friend's own mother, right? You wouldn't believe me if I told you that it was her mother who arranged your transfer to Golden High School."

"Stop it," Alicia pleaded. Her voice was hoarse and trembling.

"But they died, until you were adopted by your own biological mother because she ended up marrying a wealthy German businessman. He built this business in England, then expanded it in New York. She wove years of struggle just to find you again, Alicia."

"I said stop!"

Alicia's harsh voice made Anna shudder. She saw Alicia start to cry, but Anna couldn't help herself.

"This is the big secret that Madame Michelle shared with me, Alicia. And I used it... for my own benefit." Anna couldn't hold back her tears anymore, both of them were then caught in tears full of emotions that were completely unexpected.   "I'm... really sorry, Alicia."
