CHAPTER 138
Alicia woke up after a few hours of sleeping on the sofa. She blinked lightly, before realizing that part of her body was already covered by the warm blanket. She looked ahead. The windows outside were already dewy with snow, but the sky was beginning to clear. Morning had come, leaving behind a night of memories. Alicia moved her gaze around, she was not alone in the living room. Nicholas was there, asleep on another sofa with another blanket covering his entire body. From his curled up gesture, Alicia could immediately tell that Nicholas had been enduring the cold since the beginning. Alicia smiled a little at the man's behavior.
Normally Nicholas would wake up first, waking Alicia up with the scent of vanilla and kneaded flour, but that day Nicholas didn't wake up. He must have been as tired as Alicia. The series of crimes had yet to be solved. The case of Alicia's parents' death, finding the location of Ace and Amanda, and other crimes that a police chief like Nicholas had to solve. Alicia suddenly became concerned. She sympathizes with Nicholas' tough job.
Nicholas's gunshot wound had just healed, but the man was already struggling with real fights. Alicia looked at Nicholas' sleeping face, wasn't it a testament to Nicholas' love for her that he wouldn't stop challenging danger like this?
"I can't be like this, I have to do something for Nicholas. He has sacrificed so much for me, for this relationship."
Alicia then got up from the sofa, she folded her thick blanket neatly, storing it in the bedroom and then went back to check on Nicholas. He was still fast asleep. And Alicia had the idea to make them both a delicious breakfast.
Unfortunately, cooking was not Alicia's forte. So, the girl took her cell phone and started checking some channels that showed how to make delicious dishes and chose one of the quickest and easiest ones.
"I'll make some soup, I think it'll be warming. Well, let's first check the contents of my fridge today..."
Alicia quietly tiptoed into the kitchen, her steps barely making a sound on the wooden floor. She rummaged through the fridge, finding all sorts of ingredients, even if they didn't match the recipe she had in mind. Undaunted, she decided to improvise.
With a determined look on her face, Alicia began chopping vegetables, occasionally glancing at her phone for guidance. She awkwardly maneuvered through the cooking process, spilling a little broth here, dropping a pinch of spice there. Despite the initial chaos, the aroma of the soup began to fill the room, a blend of flavors that intertwined in a way that surprised Alicia.
Nicholas stirred on the sofa, his eyes clouding over as the aroma of simmering soup reached him. He blinked, a little confused at first. He scanned the surroundings and looked anxiously for his girlfriend, "Alicia?"
And he realized that Alicia was there, a voice coming from the direction of the kitchen. Nicholas then noticed Alicia in the kitchen, fully engrossed in her culinary experiments. A small smile curved his lips as he watched her, appreciating her efforts.
Alicia glanced over her shoulder, catching Nicholas' gaze. "Good morning," she said quietly, a hint of nervousness in her voice.
Nicholas sat up slowly, rubbing his eyes before giving her a warm smile. "Morning. What's cooking?"
"Something to warm us up," she replied, there was a hint of hesitation in her tone.Nicholas chuckled, walking towards the kitchen. "Need some help?"
Alicia hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Maybe a little taste test?"
Together, they adjusted the flavors, laughing as they navigated the kitchen together. The soup began to take shape, a blend of Alicia's efforts and Nicholas' guidance. As they shared this moment, the weight of their challenge felt lighter for a moment.
Finally, the soup was ready. Alicia poured it into two bowls, garnishing them with a sprinkling of spices she found in the kitchen. They sat at the dining table, enjoying the warmth of the soup and the comfort of each other's company.
"This is very good," Nicholas said, with a twinkle of pride in his eyes. "Um, it really has a strong flavor. Impressive."
Alicia was beaming, a sense of satisfaction coming over her. "I'm glad you think so. I wanted to do something for you." Nicholas was visibly moved by Alicia's wish. "Consider that this soup is for thanks, hm?"
"You always are, and this... is more than enough for me," Nicholas said softly, reaching across the table to take her hand.
On that simple morning, amidst the aroma of soup and quiet companionship, they found a moment of comfort reminder that their love and support for each other could weather any storm that came their way.
Nicholas squinted, pretending to tease to observe Alicia's expression. And Alicia asked just to be sure, "What's wrong? Did my food give you a stomachache?"
Nicholas laughed softly, shaking his head. "No, not at all. It's just... you."
"Me? What have I done?" Alicia feigned innocence, but a playful glint danced in her eyes.
Without warning, Nicholas pulled Alicia close, his hand gently guiding her. Their gazes locked, a silent conversation taking place between them. And in an instant, he leaned in and touched his lips to Alicia's sudden and sweet surprise.
Alicia blinked, momentarily surprised, before finally melting into the unexpected softness of the kiss. It was a moment suspended in time, a blend of warmth and tenderness that left them both breathless.
Pulling away, Nicholas grinned, a little sheepishly. "I just had to do that. Couldn't help myself."
Alicia's cheeks flushed with surprise and pleasure. "You're full of surprises today."
"Always keeps you on your toes," she teased, her gaze never leaving Alicia's face.
Their laughter filled the air, mingling with the aroma of soup and the shared warmth of the moment. It was an unspoken agreement between them, a silent promise that their love was not only in words but also in unexpected and cherished gestures. As they continued eating, a comfortable silence was created between them, punctuated only by shy glances and smiles-a silent echo of the unspoken words of love that enveloped them like a familiar and comforting embrace.
CHAPTER 139With every spoon of soup savored and every glance exchanged, the air was calmed with a serenity that only deep affection can weave. Nicholas reached for Alicia's hand across the table, his touch bringing comfort. "You know, I've been thinking about it."Alicia raised her eyebrows, intrigued. "About what?"Leaning in, Nicholas spoke softly, as if sharing a secret. "About us. About where we're going."Alicia's heart raced, the world around them fading into the background. "And where do you think we're going?"She made a circle with her thumb on Alicia's hand, her eyes never leaving hers. "Forward. Together. Always."Her breath hitched, the words hanging in the air like a promise. It was in that moment that Alicia felt the weight of his words, the depth of his commitment.Alicia squinted, holding back the red tinge that suddenly appeared on both of her thin cheeks. Caressing the line of Nicholas' nose, Alicia whispered, "Isn't it too early in the morning for flirting, Nic?""
CHAPTER 140The steady, constant sound of the device on the monitor suddenly showed a change. The straight line turned upward and began to wavy as Wilson's fingers moved slowly on the bed. There was movement. And a nurse named Liliana, who was working that day, noticed it immediately.Liliana glared in surprise, but then pressed the bedside button to call the doctor on duty that day. Not long after, Dr. Benneth came and saw Liliana."What's wrong, Liliana?""Mr. Blake is showing movement, Doctor," Lilliana informed him. "I've checked his pulse, heart rate and blood pressure. He... has progressed. Everything is normal."Dr. Benneth listened intently to all of Liliana's reports. He then nodded, "I'll check it myself," he said, and Dr. Benneth took out a stethoscope from the pocket of his white medical coat. He pressed the rounded end of the stethoscope against Wilson's chest, listening to his heartbeat which had changed compared to before. It was several minutes before Dr. Benneth final
CHAPTER 141Mr. Donovan, Maria, and Dr. Benneth were now standing around Wilson Blake's body that had just been laid on the bed. He had just finished a thorough examination of his condition after showing movement.Wilson was in a coma due to an injury to his brain, which was the result of complications from the heart disease he had been suffering from for years. Wilson fought hard, but he had to end up in a hospital room after losing consciousness and being in a static state for almost over a year. All the work had been handed over to Mr. Donovan. Donovan. He was the Wilson family's lawyer since Wilson was a teenager. He was an experienced lawyer who even received ten percent of Wilson Blake's estate which could amount to hundreds of millions of dollars in assets, stocks and cash in storage.Mr. Donovan. Donovan who was taller than Dr. Benneth cleared his throat, he had been standing there since five minutes ago and watching Wilson Blake's sleeping body. "What is Mr. Blake's actual co
CHAPTER 142Mr. Donovan and Maria came out of the VVIP room, where Wilson Blake took his time to fall back asleep. Liliana quickly prepared treatment for Wilson's condition. The man had made it through the critical period amidst the heated political atmosphere. The business world was not doing well and Wilson's recovery was like a breath of fresh air for all his colleagues.Maria looked up after checking her cell phone. "All the partners are calling me, Sir!""Have they heard about Mr. Blake's recovery? How do they know?" Mr. Donovan looked at Maria, but she just shook her head. The business world is tough, you never realize who is on your side and who will play the role of spy and traitor. Maria then raised her cell phone in the air. She shook it lightly. "They even keep calling, it seems they are very curious about Mr. Blake's health condition, Mr. Donovan. What should we do now?"Mr. Donovan looked down, removing his face from Maria. He seemed to think for quite a while before fina
CHAPTER 143"What are you going to do today? You look nice," Nicholas said, taking his eyes off his cell phone.Alicia, who had just finished putting on her clothes, pulled a gray backpack from behind the bedroom door and put it on her back. She sat next to Nicholas, who was preparing to leave for work while enjoying Alicia's green tea. Alicia smiled and explained, "I'm going to apply for some part-time jobs today. I heard that Uncle Chuck's shop needs a lot of waiters for Christmas week. You know that their ice cream is the best, right?"Nicholas squinted. "You don't need to look for a job, aren't lawyers going to take care of your parents' entire estate?" The man recalled. "That will be enough for you. And... starting today, I'll pay for you. I'm serious about our relationship, so please let me help you financially, Alicia."A soft chuckle sounded from Alicia. She stroked Nicholas’s hair which had been polished with strawberry-scented hair gel. Then looked at him intensely. NIcholas
CHAPTER 144Alicia looked at the crime scene. The field forensics team had already removed the body of the man Nicholas was talking about, he had found nothing but the location of the body which had been circled by a yellow police line. Nicholas asked Alicia to pull over because it was a dangerous place and Alicia agreed to wait for Nicholas on the other side. The crashing waves on the beach momentarily filled the void in Alicia's chest. It had been a long time since she had felt the fresh breeze of nature. But being on the beach when the air was cold, made Nicholas worried about Alicia's condition. Nicholas quickly caught up with Alicia, then took off his warm coat to cover Alicia's outerwear."You should use this, it's cold outside, you'd better wait in the car," Nicholas said, then invited Alicia into the car. They sat next to each other as Nicholas began to rub his cold palms together. His face seemed to be still wandering around looking at the surrounding scenery from inside the
CHAPTER 145Just as Nicholas had said when saying goodbye to Noel, that he would drop Alicia off first before returning to his work. And here Nicholas was, standing waiting for Alicia to unlock the door to her own flat. Alicia turned around and smiled. "I'll be fine, you can go now."But Nicholas smiled and took Alicia's hand. Alicia frowned with a confused expression, what else would Nicholas do? Nicholas then put down a gray whistle necklace and placed it on Alicia's palm. Alicia looked up, seeing Nicholas' face with a curious look on it."What is this?""It's a present for you."Alicia's eyebrows furrowed. She chuckled. "A whistle?""You can blow it if you're in danger and I'll come right away."Nicholas' words made Alicia smile. Her cheeks turned a tinge of red as she felt embarrassed. It was blushing! Her chest warmed up whenever Nicholas said sweet words that touched her. It had been a long time since she had gotten that feeling, even when Alicia was with Ace, Alicia could not f
CHAPTER 146Their focus turned to Hendrick, who returned with a wealth of information. "I found a missing person's report similar to our victim's but covered in contradictions. The person's whereabouts seem to have been carefully erased. After some digging, it's Jill and her daughter."The trio gathered again, maps lying on the table, tracing the topography of the coastal cliffs. "There's a remote area," Hendrick pointed, "rarely accessed, overlooking the beach. If the victim was thrown from there, it might explain the cut-off of access to a commonly visited tourist spot."A shiver of revelation ran through Nicholas. "What if this isn't just a murder? What if this is a message?" The pieces seemed to align, painting a sinister picture of calculated manipulation.Noel nodded, determination etched on his face. "Let's explore that side of the cliff. There might be something we're missing, a clue that connects everything."Nicholas took a deep breath. He looked at his two partners in turn,
