CHAPTER 80
Amore restaurant, New York.
"I..."
The young man's dark brown eyes suddenly flashed sharply. They pierced the blue eyes of Alicia who could not move in front of him.
"What have you and Nicholas done, Alicia?" repeated Ace. He even raised his voice this time. "You met again, didn't you?"
"I--it's not what you think, Ace," Alicia denied.
The only thing on her mind now was how Ace knew everything. Could Brittany have had the heart to report him? Or Ace had just hired someone to watch her while she was traveling.
"Tell me everything, Alicia," Ace said urgently.
A sharp look came from those brown irises. Once again, Alicia was rendered helpless even by his gaze. Ace seemed even colder with the attitude he was showing now. It took Alicia's tongue just to explain everything.
There was silence again. Especially after Alicia bowed her head guiltily. Without even expecting it, trembling began to spread throughout her body. Alicia felt very guilty for Ace.
"I always trusted you, Alicia," Ace said with disappointment. Then he exhaled heavily as he turned his face away from his girlfriend. "Even when someone kept telling me that you met that detective behind my back, I still tried to believe you." Then he gave a short snort;sounding scornful. "But I didn't expect you to disappoint me now."
The two were still exchanging glances, though no sound came out of their mouths. Even when the waitress came and put down the hot rib soup, neither of them had their appetites whetted in the slightest.
"I'm helping him investigate Mrs. Portman's case," Alicia said briefly. "Nothing more."
But a short snort came from the young man. He turned his gaze to the food in front of him. Without interest, he pulled a spoon and fork across the table and nibbled on it slowly.
And as if feeling ignored, Alicia spoke up again. "We don't see each other as often as you think, Ace," she said frankly.
Until Ace's forced movements suddenly stopped. She rudely dropped the fork and spoon into the bowl, making a loud noise that screeched in Alicia's ears. She was stunned when Ace, who was usually never like that, acted one hundred and eighty degrees now.
Those dark brown eyes were again holding her with an intimidating gaze. "I've lost my appetite. I'll take you home now," he snapped in such a cold tone.
The young man, who was now busy replacing his father as an important person, immediately stood up and walked away from Alicia. Leaving the girl with a lot of questions and confusion in her mind.

"So you're saying that someone will come forward to testify to the truth of Natalie Heele?" asked the young detective enthusiastically.
And Noel nodded in agreement.
Nicholas then stood up. "In that case, let her in immediately," and ordered his colleague excitedly.
A middle-aged woman in a white blouse and knee-length black skirt then entered the room. Accompanied by Noel, she sat down opposite Nicholas.
"Good afternoon, Madam," Nicholas greeted her warmly. He even smiled at the end of his sentence; which was uncharacteristic. "I really appreciate you coming."
The woman smiled awkwardly. Her dusky eyes glanced at Nicholas and Noel in turn.
"Is it true, you know something about this woman named Natalie Heele?" Nicholas asked directly. He did not like small talk.
But the thin-lipped woman was momentarily taken aback as soon as she heard the question thrown directly at her. She seemed surprised, but then her original intention and purpose for coming to the police station came back to her mind. "Yes, detective," he replied cautiously.
"Can you tell me everything, ma'am?"
She nodded her head-albeit with hesitant movements. "My name is Sarah and I know Natalie very well." She began. "We met at the hospital as nurse interns. Unfortunately, we had to be separated because of a mistake she made."
"So, Natalie is really a nurse?" cut in Nicholas curiously. "Did you guys work at Golden Hospital back then?"
Coincidentally, Sarah said yes to the young detective's question. And made the fine lines on the man's forehead suddenly disappear and replaced with relief. "Natalie was a good person until we all found out that she was trying to harm a patient," she continued, but this time Sarah told it in a sad tone.
"Harm someone?" this time it was Noel who spoke up.
And the woman's face immediately turned to Noel. "Yes, detective. We caught him pulling out the IV of a patient who was in a coma," Sarah said. She then shook her head weakly. "The hospital took harsh action against him. He was expelled and his name was deemed never to have been there."
Nicholas furrowed his brow and exchanged glances with Noel before turning back to the woman named Sarah. "Is that patient related to Natalie?"
Sarah shook her head. "I don't think so. Because the patient she's trying to harm is a councillor who is currently serving overseas." She then shrugged her shoulders. "There's no way a lowly person like us could have anything to do with that noblewoman."
"Wait, wait," Noel interrupted. He had been standing there, but now sat down next to Sarah. "Does Natalie use the name Rosie when she works with you?"
The woman's gaze seemed to wander for a while, until she finally looked back at Noel and Nicholas who were now waiting for her with great curiosity. "Yes. I heard she registered herself under her dead brother's name," Sarah replied. "But he definitely told me about his real name."
Nicholas spluttered in his place. "The hospital tried to cover up the defect by hiding Natalie's real identity."
Then Sarah agreed. "All the staff and doctors working there were asked to keep this incident a secret before bad rumors hurt the hospital's image," she added.
"Horrible!" said Noel.
"Now we're finding out the motive. It is possible that the perpetrator is a relative of the patient," Nicholas guessed. He then turned to Noel. "Noel, now help me check the family history of the patient who was harmed by Natalie last time and Mrs. Sarah," this time he looked at Sarah. "May I know the name of that patient?"
"Of course." The woman leaned in and whispered, "Angela Vasylchenko B." []
CHAPTER 81New York City police station."You'll be very surprised at what I've found on the internet, Detective." Noel said.Nicholas was busy on the computer when Noel said that. The American turned around, looking at Noel with a curious expression. He pointed to the chair opposite and said, "You can sit there and tell me, Noel. What did you find?"Noel sat down as Nicholas requested. And the blond-haired man immediately handed Nicholas a piece of paper containing information, an article from an internet site. "The woman named Angela Vasylchenko is a British councillor who has a long career in New York, she is fifty years old now and has been living abroad since her treatment in New York was deemed a failure."Noel's explanation made Nicholas frown. He paid close attention to Noel's every word. He's looked serious."So, what about her medical records?" asked Nicholas as he scrutinized the sheets of paper on the table, examining them one by one. "Why did her treatment in New York fai
CHAPTER 82New York City police station."You have to accept the fact that the killer has been caught and I have nothing to do with this case. So, what else do you want, Detective?"Nicholas took a deep breath, then exhaled heavily. The man was wearing a long maroon shirt, black pants and a black coat as he sat in front of Ace.A piece of news startled Nicholas' fine morning. A man named Jill, suddenly came to the police station and confessed that he was a murderer. The murderer of the case that Nicholas was handling. And all these events are completely beyond Nicholas' prediction as a detective who handles cases. It just didn't make sense.Ace Blake was the first to see Nicholas as soon as the media broke the news. He gave Nicholas a dismissive look, giving him a look full of contempt to knock Nicholas down to the ground."You see? The murderer is now in front of your eyes."But Nicholas snorted in amusement. "Just because he confessed to everything, doesn't mean you're not involved
CHAPTER 83Alicia's flat, New York.Alicia was in her room pensively. She stares at the large window in front of her with annoyance. Her blue eyes were indeed watching the trees through the glass, but her soul wasn't really there.Alicia couldn't stop thinking about Ace's condition since he left the police station yesterday. After he left, Alicia had received no information about his current whereabouts.Despite trying to contact him several times, his cell phone was still inactive. Even Ace's social media accounts didn't show any signs of him being online.Where is Ace? What is he doing now?Worry, sadness and guilt were all feelings that were now raging inside Alicia's chest. At least if she could speak up to apologize, maybe her heart wouldn't be this tight. But how? Ace didn't even show any activity online.Ace seemed to be drowning; hiding deep in the earth.Suddenly, the cell phone that Alicia had been holding - because she was waiting for Ace's call - finally rang.Although it
CHAPTER 84New York City police station."None of the fingerprint samples matched the victim."Nicholas sighed and crossed his arms over his chest. His brown eyes searched the large man who was now sitting with his hands cuffed. In the small room, Nicholas was confronted by Jill - the perpetrator who had become the talk of the town - and Noel who accompanied her.Nicholas then threw the sheets of paper that Noel had just given him onto the table. "How come your fingerprints aren't there?" he asked sarcastically. "Are you a ghost or something?"But Jill chose to stay silent. The black-eyed man with the oriental face now looked down in surrender."Now answer my question correctly," Nicholas ordered. "Did you kill them all?"Which made Jill look up; staring at the detective with a cold expression. "I told you, I killed them all," he said in what sounded like a mumble. Then he dropped his head again, looking down at the worn brown shoes he was wearing."Why did you kill people you didn't
CHAPTER 85New York City police station."Jill would like to see you one more time, Detective."Noel's words in the final seconds before Jill's sentencing hearing began instantly broke the silence in the white-dominated room.Nicholas, the senior detective chosen by the chief to handle the serial murder case they called 'The Bloody Town Square' should have been able to breathe a sigh of relief. But the hanging truth that he got, actually made him totally uneasy now.How not, while investigating a complicated case, someone came and testified that he was the culprit. He was the one who killed the three victims with unclear motives and modus operandi."What's wrong?"But Noel shook her head. "He just asked me to call you, Detective," he said. "He also asked me not to come with you. It's like there's something he wants to say only with you."A short sigh escaped Nicholas' lips before he got up from his comfortable chair."Are you going to see him, Detective?" asked Noel worriedly.Which m
CHAPTER 86Ace's house, New York.Their eyes now met in a choking silence. Even though her cheeks were wet, Alicia didn't want to move to wipe them. She wanted the truth. She gathered all the guts she had lost and asked, "What do you mean, Ace?"Then the tall man sat down next to Alicia. Although the girl moved to take her distance in the end. "When I was bothering you in the cafeteria, do you remember that you said that my face reminded you of someone?"And the blue-eyed girl furrowed her brow in surprise."I was the one who wanted your parents dead, Alicia," Ace said slowly. "I approached you and found out information about them, then I let dad manipulate my brain. Because I thought that your parents would destroy mom and dad's business back then."Alicia was shocked, so she got up and exclaimed, "So, you killed them, huh?! You killed my parents!"Instead of shouting back, Ace calmed down and looked at his girlfriend regretfully. "It wasn't me. It was Dad. He was the one who prepare
CHAPTER 87New York City Courthouse."Can I hug you one last time, Alicia?"The blue eyes instantly turned dim. Her tears were unstoppable. And quickly, she opened her arms to immediately hug her boyfriend tightly. Tighter as if they didn't want to be separated right then and there.Ace Wilson Blake, had been sentenced to death for the planned murder of his seven victims with the evidence of the footage that Nicholas had."I don't regret what will happen to me today, because at least, I can feel loved before I die," Ace said softly. He then closed his eyes and smiled slightly in the girl's arms. "I'm sorry, Alicia."Louder sobs were finally heard. Alicia's tear-drenched face sank into the crook of the neck of the lover she loved so much."If only I had known I would love you this deeply, I wouldn't have done those stupid things in the past," Ace continued, which only made Alicia sadder. "Now we have to part ways.""Ace, I--""Sshh, take it easy, Alicia," Ace cut in, trying to calm her
CHAPTER 88Alicia sat in a long chair across from the city's court office. Her blue eyes gazed around as she enjoyed a caramel macchiato in a cup from a nearby coffee shop.Everyone seemed to be busy with their own business. They came and went like the wind on Alicia's face that afternoon. The hot steam on the cup's surface slapped Alicia in the face, making her realize that the reality she was facing was more bitter than the coffee in her cup."Alicia?"The voice didn't distract Alicia. She was still busy with her own thoughts. Her attitude showed antipathy. She didn't care at all.Alicia's indifference, however, annoyed Nicholas. The man in the white coat sat next to Alicia. He looked at Alicia's sad face worriedly, then let out a long sigh there, "Are you okay?"Alicia shrugged her shoulders. But her face held little expression. She wasn't in the mood for conversation in this situation, but Nicholas' presence was also unavoidable."At least... I kept my promise. I proved that Ace w
