Chapter 1- A DETOUR INTO THE PAST

last update Last Updated: 2022-01-31 17:13:14

The night seemed starless, wind gushing through the boughs laden with blossoms of the tree, Riya stood still in loneness. Terrace had become her temple by now; the only place she found solace and serenity. Her complaints directly hit God since she rambled lifting her head to the sky. All she could possibly sense that moment was her heave of disappointment, pain got heavy with every tear fall. By now, she’s lost hope for love. Its been a day since Advik got wedded.

Riya:

On October 5th 2015, is when I first happened to meet Advik, a real conversation resonated. We’ve been living in the same apartment for years now, but hadn’t bumped at each other. We minded our own business, until we threw ourselves up at each other on a Monday morning. Sorry he mumbled to himself, heading to his black shimmering Royal Enfield Bike.

“What are you doing there standing still?” my father called out from the car, waiting for me to get in. I swiftly hopped in and was all set and excited.

It was my first day at college. I was always been surrounded by girls right from my kindergarten. I know, that’s devastating! After 12 years of being raised in a convent with moral values and prayers, I finally landed up at a co-ed. ( I could better term it to be one of my accomplishments, having with me strict typical Indian parents) I had my whole family accompany me to college, since it was my first day- a ritual to bless the child who’s about to embark on the journey of career.

Soon after I stepped in, waving goodbyes to the family, I was led by the student council to my respective classroom.

I chose Literature as my foundation. It isn’t new in the trends now for a student to do science and then pursue arts in her college level. Unfortunately I scored high in my tenth grade which made my parents push me into science. But I made it a point that I would choose English as my basic after my schooling. I developed a love towards the language English during my sixth grade, Ms. Odelia Diaz a Portugese teacher who instilled the interest and admiration for the language. She was flawless, her accent impeccable and a woman with a great attitude and dress sense. An epitome of a modern woman with ethics.

I was probably late to class, but there was no staff gladly. The room was filled. I made my way to the last bench where already three were seated, I fit myself in. Hi, myself Riya. I thrusted my hand out. Sai, Ryan and Harini others introduced. Preethi the wholesome of her name- is all bubbly with all love overflowing, she emitted positive vibes to all those around her; Vidhya seemed a little reserved to me, being the first day I didn’t want to end up judging so quick; Ryan is such a brat, ofcourse notorious and naughtiest, the leader of the playboy club.

The first day just flew in a blink of an eye with each one’s self introductory classes. Canteen was not really a big hit, no wonder my mum’s food is always scrumptious and I ended up only having a mouth rest into Sai’s big food tunnel.

I returned home later that evening after college when I saw him at the gates of the apartment.

“Hi, This is Advik!” I know you reside here, but haven’t really spoken to you before; he extended his hand. Riya, I introduced. Sorry, I was in a hurry this morning and couldn’t stop by to even apologize properly, he said. Oh that’s fine, that’s so trivial; I turned to leave.

“You look cute” he commented, he sounded flirty this time. I simply just passed without letting a word.

I had a rough day at college, moreover I felt exhausted. I made my way to the terrace to breathe in some fresh air. Advik had already been there, on a call; giggling and chortling. I assumed it should be his girlfriend, because he seemed to be blushing.

Once he was done, an official call from my colleague, he said.

Okay, I shouldn’t have judged I thought to myself.

So, whatsup? Do you visit the terrace often? he posted.

Not really, only when I’m pissed, I relieved a sigh. We had just begun to talk about each other; my career and his.

I had always been an confessionalist from then. He turned out to be my human diary, someone whom I’ve never imagined would be.

He was not really a replica of a fictional character with blue eyes holding a guitar to impress, but definitely yes, a good taste for music and extravagantly smoking hot physique. His eyes were enticing, his lips seductive- they were unusually small. Even a casual gaze from him made me go nuts.

He waited at the door gate, everyday for my return. I would always stop by to have a quick convo.

It had been raining cats and dogs from the morning. Its been two days since I previously spoke. I was jobless at home, lying under the quilt watching Titanic. My eyes were glued to the television, but yet my mind kept reasoning him. My heart ached to see him. I rang up to him quickly, within a fraction of a second he answered. Before I could even utter, he spoke: “Riya, shall we meet at the portico?” He has the jumpy energy of teenager on cocaine. I was in a state of euphoria, would I ever say no? Yes Advik, there in a minute! That was probably the prompt answer I ever gave. I wanted to appear natural, took a tint of lipbalm, rubbed them on my lips, sprayed a mild perfume and made my way. I was not much into skincare, until Aadvik had been a part of my life. I wasn’t sure if he noticed every movement of mine, but I assumed that he did and always concentrated a little extra than usual on my dressing and makeup when I’m prepared to meet him. I haven’t felt this anytime earlier, it
