SLOAN
We are now on our way to Luxe Haven for the reception. It is a five-star hotel located in Manila. Our guests are heading there too, using the vans provided by Dominic, while others are using their own vehicles. Nakikiramdam.I don’t know how to initiate a conversation. I don’t know Dominic that well yet, so I don’t know what to say to him. Should I talk to him? I just asked him out of nowhere, gano’n?“Are you okay? Do you have something to say?” he asked. My eyes widened as I looked at him.“Uh… a-anong sabon mo?” natatarantang tanong ko.Mabilis kong kinastigo ang sarili ko dahil sa naging tanong ko sa kaniya. Ano ‘yon, Sloan?! I closed my eyes tightly upon hearing him chuckle. It’s embarrassing!“Bakit mo natanong?” tanong niya.I searched my brain to find something to say. Pilit akong ngumiti. “I am p-planning to buy you one,” sabi ko na lang.“Really?” Tumango ako. “I am using Park Avenue Premium.”I know that soap! “You have the same soap with Simon,” biglang sabi ko nang hindi nauutal. He frowned. “Who’s Simon?”My eyes widened upon hearing him say that. Did I say Simon? Maybe he was waiting for my answer because he kept glancing at me.I gulped. “Uh… S-Simon is my… ex-boyfriend,” I confessed, biting my lower lip. I’m not a saint. Dumaan ako sa edad na gusto ko ng insipirasyon habang nag-aaral and Simon became my inspiration at that time.Simon Madrigal is my classmate from college. I thought I couldn’t get along with him because of his attitude, pero no’ng nagkaroon kami ng marketing research, siya ang naging kaparehas ko.“Tahimik ka lang ba talaga? Promise, Utang,” Simon said. My brow furrowed. “Yes. ‘Di ba Loan ang pangalan mo?”“W-What? My name is Sloan, not Loan. W-Where did you get that?”He scratched his nape. “Ay, iyon pala ang pangalan mo. Narinig ko lang kasi sa tabi-tabi. Can you repeat it again? I took a deep breath. “M-My name is pronounced as Is-lo-wan, Mr. Madrigal, not Is-lown or Loan. D-Did you get it?” pagpapaintindi ko sa kaniya. He just stared at me with a smile on his lips. The audacity! “F-For your information, I have a—”“Stuttering disorder…” pagtatapos niya sa sasabihin ko. “Yes, I know, and I’m not mocking you. Nacu-cutan lang ako kapag nauutal ka.”My brow rose upon hearing that. “I’m n-not cute,” I said, turning my gaze back on the laptop screen. Anyway, how did he know that I have a stuttering disorder?“Yeah, you’re not cute,” sabi niya. “Maganda ka kasi.”That day, we ended up being scolded by our research professor dahil hindi namin natapos ang research proposal na kailangan ipasa nang araw na ‘yon kasi mas inuna pa naming magdaldalan kaysa gawin ang mga dapat gawin.“T-This is your fault,” sisi ko kay Simon pagkalabas namin ng faculty room.“Bakit ako lang? Naki-cooperate ka kaya sa chismis.”I rolled my eyes. “W-Whatever.”Simon and I became close. He became my knight in shining armor whenever Shirley bullied me. I felt comfortable with him, and I fell in love with him. It was my first time falling in love. Simon asked while we were walking toward his motorcycle in the parking lot.I shrugged. “Bakit?”“You didn’t shutter…” hindi makapaniwalang sabi niya.My eyes widened upon realizing it! Hindi nga ako nautal! What does this mean? After that, Simon and I became more comfortable with each other. Simon knows my situation at home. Our relationship became a secret. I broke up with him because my dad found out about our relationship. It was a tough decision for me. It’s been four years, but the pain is still here. Naghiwalay kami ng walang maayos na closure. I just ended our relationship without telling him the main reason.“We’re here.” I snapped back to reality when I heard Dominic’s baritone voice. It was like a wake-up call from a dreamy haze. I snatched my wedding dress to avoid any embarrassing moments.“Let’s go,” Dominic said, handing me his arms. We walk through the parking lot into the five-star hotel with bodyguards surrounding us.Nirentahan ni Dominic ang buong hotel kaya bukod sa mga staff, security, at guests ay wala nang ibang tao sa buong Luxe Haven. Honestly, when it comes to this wedding, Dominic footed the bill for everything. Well, I chipped in, but my contribution was nowhere near half of what Dominic shelled out. Dominic muttered. “Y-Yeah.”“Don’t be nervous. You’re my wife now, Sloan. No one can hurt you as long as I’m here…” he assured. Does he have magic? The way he effortlessly eases the nervousness in my chest with just his words is nothing short of extraordinary.Simon suddenly popped into my mind. The big double door opened kaya bumalik ako sa reyalidad. Stepping into the five-star hotel hall for my ideal wedding reception feels like stepping into a fairytale. The moment I enter, I am greeted by a breathtaking foyer adorned with cascading flowers and shimmering crystal chandeliers. The air is filled with a delicate scent of fresh blooms, instantly creating an atmosphere of elegance. As I walk further into the hall, I am captivated by the grandeur of the space. The high ceilings seem to touch the sky, and the walls are draped in luxurious fabrics that create a soft, ethereal glow. The hall is bathed in warm, ambient lighting over every corner.Napaka-detailed ng pagkaka-ayos. The tables are meticulously set with exquisite linens, delicate china, and gleaming glassware. Each table is adorned with stunning floral centerpieces that perfectly complement the color scheme of my dream wedding. The chairs are plush and comfortable.“Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in giving a warm welcome to our incredible newlyweds, Mr. Dominic Adam Velasco and Mrs. Sloan Beatrice De Falco-Velasco! The hall was filled with a round of applause. Only my dad and Dominic know everything behind this wedding. The guests were widely smiling while clapping their hands. Does he hate crowded spaces too? After we sat on the mini stage with a table for us, mabilis kong inalis ang kamay kong nakakapit sa braso niya. All the eyes of the guests were focused on us, and I couldn’t help but feel nervous. The program started. The master of ceremonies mentioned a few things about the flow of the event pagkatapos ay nag-proceed na sa kainan na siyang inaabangan ng mga bisita. The waiters were all over the place to serve the guests. I quickly shook my head as my cheeks flushed. “I c-can manage. When I entered the restroom, there was no one except me. It was a mermaid style with a long sleeve made of delicate lace. I had no intention of paying attention to them, but my ears perked up when I heard Dominic’s name.“Oh, my god! I can feel the sweat forming on my forehead. Iyon din ang alam ko but we are not sure pa rin. I want them to know what really happened, but… I can’t. I still can’t speak for myself. I’m still a coward. Who wouldn’t think badly of someone who has been married three times? Hinintay ko talaga muna silang lumabas bago ako sumunod.“Oh, here’s your wife na pala Dom, eh.” D-Did I… Did I interrupt something?” utal na tanong ko dahil lahat sila sa akin nakatingin.“Hindi mo ba kami ipapakilala sa asawa mo, pre?” tanong ng isang lalaki na matangkad katabi niya ang babaeng may maamong muka at brown ang buhok.I looked back at Dominic. The way he looked at me didn’t change, seryoso pa rin na para bang isa akong mathematics equation na pinipilit niyang sagutin, mentally.“Hi! I’m Tami Kit Cordova nga pala. Dom’s sister. You can call me Tam or Tami—everything that makes you comfortable. Nice to meet you, sister-in-law!” greeted by the woman, who has an American accent. It was nice to meet you. Well, I think that makes sense.“Of course, makaka-bonding natin siya, sister. “Anyway, this is Callum, Rocco and Damian, sister-in-law. They’re our friends.” They all smiled at me and wished me congratulations. “T-Thank you. He suddenly stopped laughing when he realized that he was the only one laughing at his own joke. Damian and Rocco gave him disapproving looks, while Tami anxiously glanced at Nala.“You’re so talkative talaga, Callum. Callum scratched his nape and smiled awkwardly at Nala. “Peace, Miss Nala.”My heart skipped a beat as Dominic casually slung his arm around my waist and squeezed it gently.“They are an absolute pain in the ass,” Dominic whispered, sapat lang upang ako ang makarinig.“Okay lang. Huwag niyo nang isipin ‘yon. Ayos lang naman ako. Ang mabuti pa umalis na tayo rito. Bigyan natin ng space ang bagong kasal.”They all turned to us. Tami sneakily looked at Dominic’s arms wrapped around my waist, pretending to clear her throat before quickly grabbing onto Nala’s arms.“Oo nga, boys. Nala’s right. Let’s go na. Mukang they need quality time pa eh. You were literally gone for 20 minutes. Why did it take you so long in the restroom? Everything alright? What happened?” sunod-sunod niyang tanong. Nangapa naman ako ng sasabihin ko.Pansamantala kong nakalimutan ang mga sinabi ng mga babae kanina.I shook my head. “I a-am okay. I nodded.Nagpatuloy nang muli ang program. The MC called us to open the dance floor. We did our first dance as husband and wife. We went back to our table, our clothes overflowing with money, causing my dress to become even heavier. Dominic lent a hand in carrying my gown. The ceremony ended at midnight. He’s always like this. He’s my father, and no one can change that.“Go to sleep first, Sloan. I’ll just wake you up kapag nakarating na tayo,” sabi ni Dominic nang makapasok siya sa driver seat.I bit my lower lip. “H-How about you? C-Can you drive?”“Yeah, I can. My condo is not far from here,” he said.I simply nodded, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle in. As I closed my eyes, the darkness eagerly enveloped me, almost as if it couldn’t wait to have me in its grasp.SLOANThe smell of something new hits my nostrils, making me wonder where I am. I’m still half asleep, trying to piece together the events of last night. The room is dark because the large glass wall near the bed is covered by thick gray curtains.I blinked when I remembered what happened yesterday.I am married… again. Where’s Dominic? I bet this is his condo. It is a modern room designed with a color scheme of gray and white. The walls are painted a cool shade of gray, while the furniture and décor follow a minimalist aesthetic. Sobrang simple lang pero elegante.I remove the duvet blanket that covers my body
I was left alone here in his luxurious office.I have been wandering around his office for quite some time now. I am amazed by the house miniatures displayed in the glass case. Halata talaga na iniingatan iyon.Even though Dominic’s business is in the metal industry, his acquired course is not irrelevant because I also saw various blueprints hanging on the wall, such as elevators, escalators, appliances, and ships! I muttered as I saw the blueprint of an aircraft. May nakalagay sa taas na Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.Malinis ang pagkaka-drawing no’n. Naka-sealed ‘yon para maprotektahan sa kahit na ano mang alikabok.I think this is the original blueprint copy.
SLOANTwo weeks had passed, and during that time, the days flowed seamlessly. I fulfill my responsibilities as a wife diligently. This includes waking up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for Dominic, ensuring the house is clean, and taking care of the laundry. We are talking, and I am slowly becoming comfortable in his presence. He’s a gentleman. He always tells me to immediately let him know whenever something bothers me so that it can be addressed or resolved.“What are you going to do after breakfast?” Dominic asked while chewing the food in his mouth.Linggo ngayon at wala siyan
DOMINICI woke up in the middle of the night because my phone suddenly rang. I muttered curses to the caller for disturbing my precious sleep. Who the hell will call at this ungodly hour? It’s just two o’clock in the morning, for Pete’s sake!I got up, took a deep breath, and stood tall. With my left hand on my hip, I held my phone to my ear.“What do you want, Callum?” bungad ko pagkasagot ko ng tawag.“Alam mo na ba na pinapatawag tayo ni Lion?” walang paligoy-ligoy na tanong niya.My brow furrowed. “He’s here?” I thought he’s in Belgium to go away to my sister?“Yes. He told us to gather at the main headquarters. Didn’t you see his message?”“I didn’t. Wait, I’ll see it myself,” sabi ko at saka nagsimulang magtipa sa cellphone ko.I opened our organization’s secured website.
SLOAN“I have something to tell you,” Dominic said while we were in the middle of having our breakfast.I looked at him. “I’ll be gone for a week.”Kumurap ako. Aalis siya? “S-Saan ka pupunta?” I couldn’t help but ask.“I have an important business trip abroad. I’m leaving tomorrow. I was thinking, maybe you could take care of my company while I’m away?”My eyes widened. “W-What?!” gulat na bulalas ko.“Hey, chill. You just need to attend my important conference meetings and sign some documents. Besides, Ronna will take care of you.”Naguguluhan akong tumingin sa kaniya. I did graduate with a business-related degree, but I’ve never actually tried managing a business, and VMC is a huge company! I haven’t even managed our own company yet; how much more, VMC!At saka ‘yong secretary niya ay ayaw sa ‘kin!“I c-can’t do it,” pagsasabi ko ng totoo.“You’re afraid.” It’s not a question, it
SLOAN“Good morning, Mrs. Velasco. I am Henry, your personal butler that Mr. Velasco assigned,” sabi ng lalaking nasa labas ng unit namin nang tanungin ko kung sino siya.He was wearing formal attire that consisted of a black tailcoat with matching trousers, a white dress shirt, a black bowtie, black dress shoes, and wayfarer sunglasses.Oo nga pala. I almost forgot. This wasn’t new to me anymore because, when I was in college, I had many bodyguards following me everywhere to watch over my every move. Pupunta na kasi ako ngayon sa Velasco Metal Corporation para sa first day ko bilang acting CEO.I knew that Dominic would leave early, so I woke up early too. He was surprised t
SLOAN“S-Simon?”I didn’t know what to feel as I looked at the man, whom I hadn’t seen in almost four years. He had matured. He had grown taller and become more handsome. What are you doing here?” he asked, confused.I blinked. “I should be the one asking you that. What are you doing here?”Tumayo siya ng tuwid at saka binaling sa akin ang buong atensiyon niya.“Well, as you can see, I’m here for a business meeting,” he said. Inayos niya pa ang suot na white long sleeve na parang inabot ng ilang oras para plantsahin dahil wala roong makikitang gusot.“So you’re the representative from SteelTech Solution?”Kumunot ang noo niya at saka tumango. “Ah, yes. Pa’no mo nalaman?”I cleared my throat. “I am the acting CEO of Velasco Metal Corporation. Ako ang makaka-meeting mo.”“Ano?!” bulalas niya. “Pa’no nangyari ‘yon? Akala ko si Mr. Dominic Velasco ang makaka-meeting ko ngayon.”“He had an important appointment abroad. Anyway, can w
SLOANI slowly opened my eyes when I felt a little cold that I thought was coming from the air conditioner. I sat down on the bed. With one eye closed, I looked around at the place where I was now. There are indoor plants and aesthetic furniture that are properly placed in the room. There are also minimalist paintings hanging on the wall.Where am I?Malinaw kong naalala kung ano’ng nangyari kagabi. I was kidnapped! I tried to look for my handbag, but it’s nowhere to be found! I need to call Dominic and tell him what happened!I combed my hair with my fingers out of frustration and then got off the bed. I muttered in dis
KABANATA 22: PartySLOAN“Do you think this gown looks good on me, Dom?” I asked Dominic, a little worried, as I stood in front of the full-length mirror, holding the gown I’d be wearing to Daddy’s party later.I’m usually confident when it comes to choosing my outfits because that’s one of the things I’m only good at, but I don’t know why I’m feeling self-conscious right now. He wrapped his arm around my waist from the back and rested his chin on my shoulder. Our eyes met in the reflection of the mirror.“You’re always beautiful, wife. Kahit ano ang suutin mo bagay sa ‘yo,” he said gently and smiled.I felt my cheeks warm up because of what he said. I rolled my eyes at him para matago ang pamumula ng pisngi ko dahil sa pambobola niya.He smirked. “You’re being a little bitchy na, huh?” he teased, pinching my nose.“Dominic!” I chided him, but he laughed and
SLOAN“Oh my god, Trice! The Philippines still hasn’t changed, it’s still hot as fucking ever. I hope I won’t get any darker here because I’m sure my manager will freak out if my skin gets any darker,” Avianna ranted exaggeratedly, her eyes widening while pulling her pink suitcase.“Why? I think tan skin looks good on you, Avi,” I said. She informed me last week through the phone that she was going to visit me here and have some relaxing vacation. Ang huling punta niya kasi rito ay eight years old pa lang kami no’n and my mom was still alive back then. Madalas ay ako ang bumibisita sa kanila sa Croatia kaya kahit papaano ay naging close kaming dalawa.“I know, right? I always try out filters that give me a tan skin look, and I am starting to get really obsessed with it.” She pouted
I just realized now how difficult it is when you don’t have someone to turn to during times like this. I want someone to talk to so I can share what’s running through my mind right now, but who would I talk to? Wala naman akong kaibigan. Once again, I’m feeling the familiar loneliness again, which I haven’t felt for the past three months.“Kumusta, ma’am? Nagustuhan po ba ni sir—” Lila furrowed. “Teka, ayos lang po ba kayo, ma’am?”I looked at Lila and smiled forcefully.“Y-Yes. I’m fine.
SLOANDays had passed smoothly. A week after getting back from Pangasinan, we moved to the mansion Dominic bought in Forbes Park. It’s not really necessary to have maids anymore, Dom. I can do household chores, can't you see?” I argued while he was driving. He sighed. “It’s a mansion, sweetie. It means it’s huge. You can't clean that mansion alone, okay? Besides, you're my wife, not my maid,” he said calmly.“Yeah, pero kaya ko naman kasi…” pagpipilit ko pa.“No.”“But—”“Sweetheart, no.”Ngumuso ako. Yes, I know that he has tons of money, and the salary he'll give to the household staff is just a pittance to him, but still hindi ko mapigilang manghinayang.I took a deep breath. “Fine,” pagsuko ko.He smirked in victory. Ganiyan siya palagi kapag si
SLOANI almost killed him… I almost killed my own husband. I didn’t know. I didn’t know that he was allergic to shrimp. If I just know… hindi ko na sana siya pinakain no’n.Tahimik lang ako habang nakaupo sa sofa at nakatingin kay Dominic na nakahiga sa hospital bed. He’s stable now and has been transferred to the VIP room. The doctor said it’s a good thing he was brought to the hospital quickly before the situation got worse.Davina, Attorney Delmundo’s twin sister, was sitting next to Dominic’s hospital bed, holding my husband’s hand as she watched him sleep.
SLOANAfter I bought pasalubong for Yaya Basya and Ate Beeba here in Nepo Mall, I looked for a restaurant because I plan to bring lunch to Dominic at the factory.I don’t know the exact address of the VMC factory here, but there’s Google Maps naman and the company Dominic works for is well-known, so I know I won’t have a hard time finding it.Tumigil ang paa ko sa harap ng Yankee Bites isang American restaurant na nadito pa rin sa loob ng Nepo Mall. Most of them are Americans who probably missed eating the American foods that they’re used to.I walked toward the counter. What do you want to have, Ma’am?” nakangiting tanong ng babae sa counter.I looked at the countertop menu and read the available dishes.“C-Can I have Jamba
SLOANI gulped hard while looking at her dangerous eyes that were darting into me. I quickly averted my gaze and stood up. My knees and hands were trembling because of nervousness. I could feel my forehead sweating because I could sense the sharpness of Tita Fina’s gaze.“I-I’m sorry po. Bakit? I closed my eyes tightly to
Leaving San El Paso was not easy for us, especially because I could really feel the sadness of the people there when we told them that we had to leave. We are currently inside Dominic’s Mercedes-Benz A-Class car, heading to his penthouse. He glanced at his wrist watch and said, “Two hours from now. It’s already ten in the morning, so we’ll leave around one in the afternoon.“How long will we
SLOANI’ve experienced a beach wedding before with Frederick, and I didn’t feel anything that day but sadness and disappointment. But today, as I walked on the white sand, wearing only my flip-flops, a simple white dress, and a fresh crown flower, it felt like I was walking on clouds. Mapababae man o lalaki.I gulped when Dominic and I locked eyes. He was looking at me intently, like I was the only one he was seeing, and not minding the people around us.
