Adrian:

He spared me a glance, and clicked his tongue. “You reek of alcohol and I don't like the smell of them.” He complained. “By tomorrow my car would be smelling just like you… alcohol and whiskey.”

A visible frown curved up my brows, “Are you calling me a drunk?”

He didn't even look at me as he answered, “Well, perhaps you didn't realize but right now you reek so much of it that you could be taken as one.”

I was about to say something, but then a sharp pang seared through my head, silencing me.

I pressed my lips into a thin line and instead laid my head back in the headrest of the passenger seat.

“Talk back at me this way when I'm fully sober later today.”

Dmitri simply chuckled and kept driving.

When we finally reached my place, Dmitri pulled into the gate and turned to me as he pulled the car to a stop, “Are you sure you can make it inside?”

I scoffed, pushing the car door open and stepping outside, “I’m not a child, Dmitri.”

♛ Aurora: “So what would you like to have? Tea to calm your nerves? Coffee to make you stronger for the day, or just the usual yogurt?” Trish asked the moment I walked inside the kitchen. I glanced down at the time in my wristwatch, it was already 10 A.M. I had slept in and she didn't bother to wake me up at all. “I'm not hungry, Trish. I'll have just water. And besides I'm already late.” I said as I walked past her and headed straight to the refrigerator. “Oh, no, no, no. You would not be leaving this house until you have something. Water would not be enough to put you through the day. I made some pancakes and there’s honey over there. If you aren't hungry for pancakes, that's completely fine. There’s bacon and eggs too. If you don't want all that, that's fine, but then you'll have toast instead.” She drew out the last statement with a smile. I shook my head and brought out water from the refrigerator. I could clearly tell what Trish was trying to do, to take my mind

This means that some of you may notice changes to the chapter structure, especially if you've been keeping up with the latest updates. ✦ WHAT'S HAPPENING? I've spent the past few days reorganizing some of my longer chapters, which were over 2,000 words. These revised chapters are currently under review by my editor. As a result, you may notice some previously uploaded chapters being divided into two. The content wouldn't change, just the structure! ✦ MY SINCERE APOLOGY AND EXPLANATION. ♛Aurora:Her words hit me straight in my chest. I glanced up at her, and the question worrying and wrapping itself around my heart slipped out. “And what if I can’t?” Her eyes softened even more, and she smiled, squeezing my hand again. “Then I’ll be right here, reminding you until you can.” I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear that until the words left her lips. I swallowed the lump in my throat, nodded, and took another bite of my pancake. I ate slowly. Trish watched me with a pointed expression, arms still crossed over her chest like she was ready to pounce if I dared to stop. It was both endearing and slightly frustrating, but I knew she meant well. I swallowed the last bite of pancake and pushed the tray slightly forward. “There. Happy now?” I asked, wiping my mouth with a napkin. “Ecstatic,” she replied, her lips twitching into a bright smile. “Now, go get ready for the day.” She said as she brushed her fingers through her disheveled hair. “Your hair look

♛Aurora: The message kept ringing continuously in my head, even as I got into my car and drove down the street. Even as I stopped my car in front of the cafe and walked down the curb, entering inside it. Even as I spotted Adrian sitting by one of the seats close to the window. But the moment he looked up at me, all my fears somehow settled away from me, and I pushed back everything sitting down on me to the back of my head as I approached his seat by the window. I pressed my lips into a thin line, and kept walking further. The smell of warm coffee filled my nostrils. Adrian straightened slightly when I reached his table, his dark eyes searched mine. “Rory,” he called out to me carefully. “Adrian.” I sat down across from him, folding my hands in my lap. My fingers were trembling, so I pressed them against my thighs. My heart raced against my chest, in a way I didn't want it to. I looked up at him again, and it was at that moment I finally saw him. ♞Adrian: My world cracked apart in a single, slow horrifying second. My whole body turned still, and my head went blank for a moment, like I was refusing to accept the sight in front of me. A pang steered through my head, punching every single nerve of mine as my brain slowly processed what was in front of me. No, no. Fuck no! Rory. My wife. My life lay on the cold floor. The scream ripped through my throat before I even knew what was happening. One second, she was there. The next…she wasn’t. The car sped off almost immediately, tires screeching against the asphalt. I didn’t see the license plate. Didn’t care to check, but it had crossed my mind. My entire attention was directed to the petite figure laying on the floor. My feet were already moving, my chest tightening, my lungs barely pulling in air as I ran toward her crumpled body. “Rory!” Her name was the only thing that existed for me at that moment. It clawed its way out of my throat, over and over a

♞Adrian:“But what?” I heard myself whisper. He took a step back, “The impact of the hit caused severe trauma, and there's an internal bleeding. We are really doing everything we can at the moment…” his words trailed. “Just save her.” My voice was rough. “Please.” He inhaled deeply, and let out a breath fixing the collar of his shirt. “She might not make it.” The world tilted, and for the first time since that car hit her, I felt myself break. “No.” The word came out hoarse, almost inaudible. “No, that’s not… she’s going to make it. She has to.” The doctor sighed, his eyes were filled with something that looked too close to pity, and it made me want to punch a hole through the wall. “We’ll certainly do everything we can, but I have to prepare you for the possibility that…” his words trailed as I interrupted him. “Don’t.” I shook my head, holding back the urge to do something to the doctor. Because what in the world does he mean by she wouldn't make it? “Don’t fucking

♞ Adrian: I sat down alone in the hallway, eyes rooted to the red lights of the emergency room. Hoping, praying and patiently waiting for a doctor or a nurse to step out and tell me everything was going to be alright soon, or else I knew I would lose my mind the more the second ticked by. It’s been almost two fucking hours and none of them had stepped out to tell me what was going on inside. My fingers tapped slowly. Inhale. Exhale. Breathe in. Breathe out, and I rested my head on the wall, looking up at the ceiling. The rushed footsteps in the hallway pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned my head to look up just as the footsteps drew closer to where I was seated. Christian walked ahead of them. But he wasn’t alone. Right behind him was Dmitri, his sharp eyes scanning the hallway and landing right on me. Leon and Trish followed, and my stomach tightened at the sight of all of them here. “What happened, man?” Dmitri was the first to ask as he walked over to where I was.

♛Aurora: I stirred, on the bed. My throat felt dry, and my body felt limp. I stayed like that for a moment, trying to grasp the situation around me. A minute passed by, and then another passed slowly before my eyes fluttered open, the room slowly taking shape… muted light filtering through curtains, the smell of antiseptic which I hated, and the sound of medical equipment. My eyes drifted across the place I'm inside, and it slowly dawned on me that it was a hospital. I looked around the place again, and it was at that moment, my eyes landed on the silhouette standing by the window. My brows creased together and I tilted my head, trying to have a better and closer look at who it was. Realization dawned on me when I saw the figure clearly, a breath escaped my lips and I just lay there, watching his back. Adrian stood by the window, his back to me, broad shoulders tense, his fingers curled into fists at his sides. The sun caught the edges of his face in the glass, but

♞ Adrian: “Come in.” Rory’s voice answered from inside. My gaze dropped briefly to her assistant, who knocked and stepped aside. Gabriel's words from earlier rang continuously in my thoughts, and I fought hard to push them aside. Without a word, I pushed the door open and walked inside. The moment I did, my gaze locked on Rory’s. She was sitting behind her desk, a glass of water in hand, a thoughtful expression in her eyes. But the second her eyes met mine, something flickered. Something close to surprise at my sudden presence. I wasn’t sure. A warm feeling settled in my chest, and I spared her a small smile, which she returned, “Adrian.” The smile on my face vanished as quick as it came when I noticed the man sitting across from her, as he turned slightly, just enough for me to get a clear view of his face. My brows creased into a tight frown. What the fuck was he doing here? What was his name again, Nath? Norman? Noahm Actually, I didn't give a damn what his name was. F

And added almost immediately, “Do you realize how long I've been trying to reach out to you? you weren't answering my calls, neither were you replying to my text messages. And from the last time, you did warn me to not bypass your receptionist without an appointment.” My brows furrowed tightly, “You never texted me. Nor called.” I dropped my gaze to my phone and picked it up, before reaching out for it. “I did.” “Noah, you didn't.” “I swear, I called you and texted numerous number of times.” Scrolling through the call logs of my missed calls. I didn't see any message or missed calls from his number which I had saved to my phone. I looked up at him with a frown, “There’s no message or missed calls from you here.” Noah looked offended, his brows pulled tog

♛ Aurora: I arrived at my workplace an hour later than usual. The elevator was silent, safe for Bonnie absentmindedly tapping her feet beside me. I don't think she realized she was even doing it, her gaze was rooted to the screen of her iPad. I spared her a side glance, and pressed my lips into a thin line, before glancing at the count of numbers to the top stairs. A deep sigh escaped my lips, and I shut my eyes close for a moment. Adrian and I had come to the conclusion that it was better to feign ignorance for the meantime till we are able to track every single person connected to the collapse on site. While I didn't completely agree at first, it later dawned on me that it was the only best option we had, at least for now. So, somehow I agreed to act oblivious to it for the next couple of weeks. By then, I would also keep an eye on Bonnie’s every movement. Eventually, she’ll make a mistake that would be too big to hide. I brushed my fingers through my hair, and a deep sigh es

♞ Adrian: My fist tightened around his collar, and his fingers gripped my hands, trying to pry them off. “Can you fucking tell me what this is about before choking me to death?” Gabriel’s sharp eyes met mine. “I deserve to at least know what I've done wrong this time.” “Killing you here and right now would just make everything better for me, you know?” I asked, watching the change in his expression. I had received a call from Giovanni after I left Rory with my Dmitri and Leon yesterday to attend a meeting. I wasn't sure how he got it done, but he had somehow figured out that my step-brother was also pulling the reins behind the collapse at the site. Why he was doing it? I had no fucking idea. But he’ll eventually tell me if he wants to live. “How long did you think it would take me to find out you are somehow connected to Vincent Rein?” I asked him, tightening my hands around his collar. Gabriel's brows pulled together, and he blew out a breath. His frown deepened an

I glanced down at my phone in her hands. What message was sent? If it was one from an unknown number, then I wouldn't know what to say to her, and Trish would certainly demand an explanation. She wouldn't be happy that I kept it from her. My throat felt tight as I took a step further, and towards where she was standing, “I promise I can explain.” I dived face first into trying to clear the air. Trish narrowed her eyes at me, “Rory…” her words trailed and she glanced down at the phone again, before looking up. Her eyes watched me carefully, and she dropped my phone to the bed, before letting out a deep restrained breath, “Rory, you need to tell me what's going on.” I swallowed the lump stuck to my throat, and my fingers tightened around my tooth brush which was in my hand. “Talk to me before I jump i

♞ Adrian: I slid my car keys into my pants pocket before looking up at the mansion before me. A deep breath escaped my lips and I ran my fingers through my neatly brushed hair, before making my way inside. I hated this house. I didn't like coming here. Neither do I like the memories it pulls coming here. My father’s message had been unclear to me. All it read was: 'Come home, Adrian. There’s something we need to discuss.' When I read the message first thing I woke up this morning, I almost canceled on it. My intention was to cover it up with me being out on a buisness meeting. But at the last moment, I decided to just come around. Besides, I had a certain other business to handle with someone in this house. The butler opened the door the second I stepped onto the porch, like he'd been waiting all day. “Welcome home.” He greeted with a nod, which I returned before he glanced inside, “They’re in the lounge.” I almost asked where else would they be? Probably perched on those pret

♛ Aurora: My gaze trailed over to my bedroom ceiling as I blinked my eyes open. I stretched over my bed and released a deep breath, before reaching out for my phone which I left on the bedside table. “You’re glowing.” I froze at the voice, my brows creased and I blinked, disoriented for half a second before I realized Trish was standing in the doorway of my bedroom, her brows raised in something close to amusement. She was dressed in her usual oversized red sweater and leggings, hair up in a messy bun, clutching a mug that smelled like tea. “Excuse me?” I asked, sitting up a little straighter on the bed. I glanced around the room, before my gaze trailed back to her. Events from last night cut through my thoughts and I closed my eyes for a brief second, trying to recall how it had ended and how I had gotten back into my room. I stretched my arms and felt a sharp pain on my shoulder blade, a wince escaped my lips and I brushed my fingers on my shoulder. It was at that

His confession wasn't just words to me… it was raw, trembling truth. I couldn't help but turn to glance at him. And what I saw in his eyes was vulnerability that left no room for armor. Everything he said was nothing but what he felt. I looked at him deeply, the same way his dark eyes stared at me deeply. His jaw was tight, like he was holding himself back from saying more. His fingers twitched at his thigh. He wasn't comfortable in the silence, he wanted me to say something. Anything. I swallowed the lump stuck in my throat, because something inside me was caving in. I hated him. I resented him. I despised him. But I loved him. I missed him. I ached for him. All at once. My brows pulled together, “Who?” He shook his head and ran his fingers through it, ruffling it before finally saying, “I don't want to get you involved in all of these.” His heavy stare fell on me. My frown deepened, “I'm already involved in it. Right from the moment someone decided to sabotage my work at the site. So what do you mean?” “Things run deeper than that. Other than the fact that you have someone who’s trying to sabotage your work because they have a vendetta against you. There’s also someone out there who is working with them because they have a vendetta against me.” I let his words settle in for a moment. My brows creased as I slowly understood the meaning behind his words. Someone was coming after me because of him? “Who?” I couldn't help but ask. “I can't tell you.” “Why?” He shook h
