Aurora:

The message kept ringing continuously in my head, even as I got into my car and drove down the street. Even as I stopped my car in front of the cafe and walked down the curb, entering inside it.

Even as I spotted Adrian sitting by one of the seats close to the window.

But the moment he looked up at me, all my fears somehow settled away from me, and I pushed back everything sitting down on me to the back of my head as I approached his seat by the window.

I pressed my lips into a thin line, and kept walking further. The smell of warm coffee filled my nostrils.

Adrian straightened slightly when I reached his table, his dark eyes searched mine. “Rory,” he called out to me carefully.

“Adrian.” I sat down across from him, folding my hands in my lap. My fingers were trembling, so I pressed them against my thighs.

My heart raced against my chest, in a way I didn't want it to. I looked up at him again, and it was at that moment I finally saw him. The dark circles under

♞Adrian: My world cracked apart in a single, slow horrifying second. My whole body turned still, and my head went blank for a moment, like I was refusing to accept the sight in front of me. A pang steered through my head, punching every single nerve of mine as my brain slowly processed what was in front of me. No, no. Fuck no! Rory. My wife. My life lay on the cold floor. The scream ripped through my throat before I even knew what was happening. One second, she was there. The next…she wasn’t. The car sped off almost immediately, tires screeching against the asphalt. I didn’t see the license plate. Didn’t care to check, but it had crossed my mind. My entire attention was directed to the petite figure laying on the floor. My feet were already moving, my chest tightening, my lungs barely pulling in air as I ran toward her crumpled body. “Rory!” Her name was the only thing that existed for me at that moment. It clawed its way out of my throat, over and over a

♞Adrian:“But what?” I heard myself whisper. He took a step back, “The impact of the hit caused severe trauma, and there's an internal bleeding. We are really doing everything we can at the moment…” his words trailed. “Just save her.” My voice was rough. “Please.” He inhaled deeply, and let out a breath fixing the collar of his shirt. “She might not make it.” The world tilted, and for the first time since that car hit her, I felt myself break. “No.” The word came out hoarse, almost inaudible. “No, that’s not… she’s going to make it. She has to.” The doctor sighed, his eyes were filled with something that looked too close to pity, and it made me want to punch a hole through the wall. “We’ll certainly do everything we can, but I have to prepare you for the possibility that…” his words trailed as I interrupted him. “Don’t.” I shook my head, holding back the urge to do something to the doctor. Because what in the world does he mean by she wouldn't make it? “Don’t fucking

♞ Adrian: I sat down alone in the hallway, eyes rooted to the red lights of the emergency room. Hoping, praying and patiently waiting for a doctor or a nurse to step out and tell me everything was going to be alright soon, or else I knew I would lose my mind the more the second ticked by. It’s been almost two fucking hours and none of them had stepped out to tell me what was going on inside. My fingers tapped slowly. Inhale. Exhale. Breathe in. Breathe out, and I rested my head on the wall, looking up at the ceiling. The rushed footsteps in the hallway pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned my head to look up just as the footsteps drew closer to where I was seated. Christian walked ahead of them. But he wasn’t alone. Right behind him was Dmitri, his sharp eyes scanning the hallway and landing right on me. Leon and Trish followed, and my stomach tightened at the sight of all of them here. “What happened, man?” Dmitri was the first to ask as he walked over to where I was.

♛Aurora: I stirred, on the bed. My throat felt dry, and my body felt limp. I stayed like that for a moment, trying to grasp the situation around me. A minute passed by, and then another passed slowly before my eyes fluttered open, the room slowly taking shape… muted light filtering through curtains, the smell of antiseptic which I hated, and the sound of medical equipment. My eyes drifted across the place I'm inside, and it slowly dawned on me that it was a hospital. I looked around the place again, and it was at that moment, my eyes landed on the silhouette standing by the window. My brows creased together and I tilted my head, trying to have a better and closer look at who it was. Realization dawned on me when I saw the figure clearly, a breath escaped my lips and I just lay there, watching his back. Adrian stood by the window, his back to me, broad shoulders tense, his fingers curled into fists at his sides. The sun caught the edges of his face in the glass, but

♛Aurora:I shook my head, that wouldn't be a good idea. At least not now. I shifted slightly, wincing at the ache in my ribs, and Adrian was immediately up, his hands hovering again, torn between wanting to help and knowing he couldn’t fix the internal ache I was feeling. “You should rest,” he murmured, softer this time. “You don’t have to think about this right now.” I searched his face. “Adrian…” He shook his head, as if already knowing what I was going to say. “Don’t. Don’t ask if I’m okay. Because I am as long as you are.” I hesitated, then quietly asked him, “You’re not, are you?” He didn’t look okay. He looked far different from the word. A laugh escaped him. He leaned back, tilting his head against the chair, eyes closing for a brief second before he looked at me again. “No. I’m not.” His emotions were usually held back tightly but now he looked like he couldn't hold them back anymore. Like he had felt them too much he couldn't ignore them. “I thought you wer

♛ Aurora: The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the warmth. Not the suffocating kind that made my skin sticky with sweat, but something softer, and lovelier. A kind of warmth that settled into my bones, that reminded me of safety. It took me a moment to recognize the hands draped across my waist. I tilted my head a little and it was then I noticed Adrian was lying down on a chair close to my hospital bed. His hands were draped around my stomach, and his head was resting on the edge of the bed. His large palms slowly trailed a line across my stomach, and my body stiffened as I realized what he was doing. Even in his sleep, he was touching my abdomen, where our baby had been. My throat felt tight. I reached out for him but he shook briefly, before my hands settled on his dark hair, brushing through its thickness. I let my fingers thread through his dark hair, feeling the soft strands slip between them. Adrian stirred slightly in his sleep, and his grip on m

♛Aurora:I sighed. “Fine.” Whether I wanted to eat or not, I had to at least have something to strengthen me, so I could take my pills and all. Adrian moved quickly, standing and grabbing the tray before settling back into his chair. The food was bland. Just broth, some toast, and it made me crave Trish’s pasta. I let out a breath, knowing I had no choice since this was what the doctor recommended. I also knew arguing wouldn’t get me anywhere. So I took the spoon from him and sipped the warm liquid, feeling it soothe my throat. Adrian watched me the entire time, as if making sure I didn’t try to trick him and push the food away. When I finished, he set the tray aside and leaned back in his chair, arms crossing over his chest. I looked up at him, and I didn't realize my hands were trailing lines across my stomach till he muttered painfully, “I'm really sorry, Rory. Words can't even explain how I am.” The air turned still all of a sudden, I realized the words we had been

♛ Aurora: I twirled a forkful of pasta, feeling the warmth seeping through my veins when I perceived the warm scent of Trish’s home made cooked pasta. Trish looked around, and when she was certain no one else was close to the room, she came back to her seat beside my bed and leaned forward, eyes narrowing as she studied me. “Make things clear to me, Rory. What the hell is going on between you and Adrian these days? You two look seconds away from pulling each other's clothes off. And I'm lost, because what is going on for real? Are we letting him in already?” Seconds from pulling each other's clothes off… what the hell does she mean? I nearly choked on my pasta. “Trish!” “No, don't ‘Trish’ me, please. I need answers. Because I swear, one minute you're staring unblinkingly at him like you want to set him on fire, and the next, you're looking at him like he's the damn oxygen keeping you alive. ♞ Adrian: I wasn’t planning to stop. I had every intention of driving straight home, taking a long-ass shower, and figuring out what the hell I was going to do to make things right with Rory. But the next thing I knew, my hands had turned the wheel and my car rolled to a halt in front of Leon’s place. My phone buzzed in my pants, and I stepped out of the car, closing the door shut behind me before I brought the phone out and checked who was calling. I halted in my steps when I noticed it was Christian. I slid the answer button before pressing the phone to my ear, “What's it?” I asked the moment I answered. There was shuffling from the other end, before he finally spoke out, “I got in touch with the guy for the tracking.” I ran my fingers through my hair and released a deep breath before asking, “And what’s the update on it?” Christian didn't answer immediately, and after a long quiet moment he finally answered, “I'll text you the details in five minutes.” “Alri

♛ Aurora: “I can't do this,” I whispered, more to myself, but loud enough for him to hear me. I couldn't even concentrate on driving while I was on my way home. And it was all because of him. To make it all worse, Lucy's attempt at planting seeds of doubts in my head had somehow worked. I couldn't think. My heart felt like it was being shredded into tiny pieces, and it tore me apart. I was so tired of all this. And despite all the love I had in my heart for him, it was a pity that he didn't trust our love so much to be able to completely be honest with me. What on earth could he be keeping to himself that wasn't worth me knowing? Nothing, absolutely nothing serious. The only ever thing that had tore me apart in my years of living was my parents' death, because they left me all alone. Second to that was my divorce with Adrian. And third, was the child I lost. There was nothing else he could say that could destroy me so much that it would break our very fragile relations

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   78. Panic And Heartaches

♞ Adrian: I scrubbed my hands over my face, fingers digging into my eyes until I saw stars. My phone sat on the passenger seat, and I glanced at it, fingers itching to pick it up and call again. The last call had gone unanswered. The one before that too. I’d sent her a message. And it was simple, stupid, and fucking desperate. ‘I’m outside. Can we talk? I just need five minutes.’ Nothing back. I glanced through the car glasses, and my gaze fell on the windows of her house. Maybe she wasn’t home. Or she was and she’d seen my message and rolled her eyes and tossed her phone into a drawer. God, I wouldn’t blame her. I was parked across from her house, my car engine off, with my hands gripping the steering wheel. I had brushed my fingers through my hair countless times that it was all disheveled. My fingers tapped on the steering wheel, searching for something to keep my concentration in check. It didn’t work. I was still unraveling. She hadn’t answered my calls. I co

  • Love Rewritten: Chasing Her Back   77. No Assurance

♛ Aurora: Just thinking about the look in his eyes before he stepped out pulled my heartstrings. Not in a soft way, but in a cruel one. I gripped the steering wheel tighter and a deep breath escaped my lips. Adrian’s words played in my mind continuously. And then all he left me with was, ‘I’m sorry.’ Like that would do anything, or make it all better. No explanation. No assurance. Just that. I blinked hard, pushing the lump in my throat back where it came from. I shouldn’t have expected anything different. I knew Adrian wasn’t the kind of man who let people in easily, I had known that since I met him, he wouldn't let people know him that deep, especially not when he was hurting. But still... part of me had hoped. Naively.Foolishly. We’ve been together for more than half a decade, so all this wasn't supposed to be something we still bothered about. What was worse than being shut out was being almost trusted. As if I had earned enough of his heart to be touched

♛ Aurora: The air between us suddenly felt so tight. As if sensing my discomfort, Adrian released a deep sigh and his gaze dropped to where his fingers were. Without another word, he simply reached out and buttoned my shirt for me, after fixing my collar he pulled away from me and sat down on the other end of the couch. My gaze remained on the ceiling for a long moment. I couldn't get up. Rather, I couldn't bring myself to. The feeling in my chest was swallowing me whole and I couldn't do nothing about the ache. It was crazy, all these… I thought we were doing better, and that based on past mistakes that made us lose things we never wanted to, we weren't supposed to go through this path again. But somehow, Adrian still didn't trust me enough to be able to handle whatever he was keeping away from me. Different situations, same instances. I couldn't breathe. Suffocation wrapped itself around me, holding me so tightly. The same feeling and fear I didn't think I would ever f

♛ Aurora: My breasts pressed against his hard, warm abs and a shiver rolled through me. I wanted his shirt off. God, I wanted it off. He ran his face up and down my neck, as though savouring the moment. I had no idea when he reached for my buttons and slowly unbuttoned them. His large hands slid down my stomach, and trailed circles around my navel. I wanted him to go lower, but just as his fingers reached my trousers they slid back up. My skin burned beneath his palm when he touched the bare curve of my waist. His other hand cradled my thigh, my skirt bunched high. He pulled back just slightly, only an inch, resting his forehead against mine. My breath was unsteady. My hands didn't stop roaming. My lips didn’t stop aching. His erection pressed against the inside of my thigh, and if he would only step forward a few inches, it would be right where I wanted it, and needed it. I swayed, my eyes heavy-lidded, when a solid grip came to the side of my neck to hold me still whi

♛ Aurora: Unlike the soft kiss from last night, this one was demanding in a different way. In an entirely different way. Adrian clung to me, pulling our bodies closer to each other as he tilted his head and deepened the kiss. He nibbled my lower lips softly, demanding for access into my mouth. My eyes flickered open and landed on his closed eyes, like he was pouring out every single conflicted emotion he was feeling into the kiss. I opened my mouth slowly, giving him access and soon as I did, Adrian's tongue slid into my mouth, searching for mine. He looked like he wanted to say something to me, but was finding it difficult to voice and instead chose this method of clinging to one another like our lives depended on it. “Adrian,” I called his name, not because I wanted to stop, but because I wanted him to talk to me instead of bottling whatever he was hiding. I swallowed the words stuck to my throat, when his hands which had been on my waist slid lower to my backside.

♞ Adrian: “Come in.” Rory’s voice answered from inside. My gaze dropped briefly to her assistant, who knocked and stepped aside. Gabriel's words from earlier rang continuously in my thoughts, and I fought hard to push them aside. Without a word, I pushed the door open and walked inside. The moment I did, my gaze locked on Rory’s. She was sitting behind her desk, a glass of water in hand, a thoughtful expression in her eyes. But the second her eyes met mine, something flickered. Something close to surprise at my sudden presence. I wasn’t sure. A warm feeling settled in my chest, and I spared her a small smile, which she returned, “Adrian.” The smile on my face vanished as quick as it came when I noticed the man sitting across from her, as he turned slightly, just enough for me to get a clear view of his face. My brows creased into a tight frown. What the fuck was he doing here? What was his name again, Nath? Norman? Noahm Actually, I didn't give a damn what his name was. F

And added almost immediately, “Do you realize how long I've been trying to reach out to you? you weren't answering my calls, neither were you replying to my text messages. And from the last time, you did warn me to not bypass your receptionist without an appointment.” My brows furrowed tightly, “You never texted me. Nor called.” I dropped my gaze to my phone and picked it up, before reaching out for it. “I did.” “Noah, you didn't.” “I swear, I called you and texted numerous number of times.” Scrolling through the call logs of my missed calls. I didn't see any message or missed calls from his number which I had saved to my phone. I looked up at him with a frown, “There’s no message or missed calls from you here.” Noah looked offended, his brows pulled tog
