Chapter 21

The air in the house was thick with tension as Isabella packed her bags. She tried to ignore the persistent knocking on her bedroom door, but it only grew louder. It wasn’t long before her mother’s voice broke through, sharp and filled with concern.

“Isabella! Open this door right now!” Bella’s voice was uncharacteristically loud, the desperation unmistakable.

Isabella sighed, her hands shaking as she stuffed clothes into her suitcase. She didn’t want to face her mother, not right now. Not when she knew the kind of storm that was waiting on the other side of the door.

The door finally flew open, and Bella stepped inside, her face pale with anger and worry. “What are you doing?” she demanded, her eyes darting from the suitcase to her daughter’s face. “You can’t seriously be thinking about leaving.”

“I’m not discussing this, Mom,” Isabella muttered, her voice low but firm. “I need to get out of here.”
