-group chat of the gods, probably.

Aster has had enough. She surely wasn't a perfect daughter or student, but she sure as hell hasn't done anything to deserve all of this bs.

Ever since they Khai and Aster spoke to each other for the first time, Khai has been bugging her everytime they meet. Like asking her how's her day (to which she replies with a minimum of 3-4 words) or giving her Almond milk, which just so happens to be her favorite beverage, making it harder for her to be mean towards him. Whether or not Pollux disclosed that information to Khai, she'll have to confirm later.

She was certain that the gods all collectively decided to destroy her once peaceful and quiet life. As if an omnipotent godhead has been meddling in with her life ever since she confessed to Xav. Like someone was carefully moving chess pieces in her life to deliberately place her into the most ridiculous and comical situations. And it is slowly eating away her sanity.

Whoever it is, Aster hopes they're enjoying the goddamn show.

╭── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╮

When class was getting boring Aster tends to listen in on conversations with her superhearing. Admittedly, it isn't a very good habit of hers, but she's pretty confident in her ability to keep secrets. Whatever she picks up, she swore to take to her grave.

"Nice one, Khai! You did so good out there!" Aster's ears perk up. It seems to be one of Khai's fangirls.

"Thanks!" She couldn't see him, but she just knows he's grinning ear to ear right now with a rapidly inflating ego.

"That was really cool what you did, the one where you look like you were gonna pass the ball to someone else but suddenly overtake them by going the opposite direction of where they anticipated you to go? I thought that was really clever." She could hear the genuine awe in the girl's voice.

"Oh, you mean this?" Khai playfully shows off the trick that the girl seemed to be referring to.

"Yeah! That one!" The girl giggles. 'Wow. What a brag.' Aster thinks to herself.

"Say, are you free this Saturday? My friends and I are going out, you should totally come!" The girl says.

"Oh, I-" Khai tries to speak but was cut off, "Oh, Don't worry! We also invited some of your teammates so you won't feel left out." The girl beams.

"O-oh! How nice of you, but I, uhm, I'm actually working part-time every Saturday. So as much as I want to, I really can't come..." Khai gives her a wistful smile.

"What? But you can't not come! I invited them just for you." Aster's eyes widened, 'No way, Is this a confession? I feel like I shouldn't be listening...'

"O-oh... Well, too bad haha... But I promise my teammates are super great and outgoing peeps, I'm sure your friends will love them." He smiles innocently.

Aster winces for the girl, 'Oh no. He's dense as a rock.'

The girl heaves, "So they weren't kidding when they said you're denser than a brick." Aster stifles a laugh.

There was a long awkward pause before the girl huffs, muttering, "I can't believe this..." before walking away.

╰── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╯

Meanwhile, their class has been dismissed. People began to crowd Aster as she seems to have spaced out. The thing is, When Aster hyperfocuses her senses to listen in to a conversation, the further it is, the more attention it requires. And so, right now, Aster's body is basically an empty shell.

"Hellooo, Earth to Aster?" The girl seated in front of her, Maja Stewart, also class president, waves her hand in front of Aster's face.

╭── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╮

"Well, what did you want me to say?" Khai deadpans.

The girl stops in her tracks, unable to say a word.

"Did you want me to skip my job to hang out?"

"Y'know what, yeah maybe." The girl turns around and scowls at him.

"Okay, does fooling around with you guys give me money to buy my sister's medications? Cause if so, then yeah, I'm down."

"What are you saying? I- I invited those losers for you!" She exclaims.

╰── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╯

"Guys, I think we're talking to a soulless body."

"Woah, that's creepy. Wait, does she have like, special problems?" Some guy asks.

"What? No!" Rhiane sighs, "This happens to her sometimes. I mean, we've never been classmates before, but when I was younger, I used to hear stories about Aster, and apparently, she spaces out a lot. But other than that she's pretty much normal." She looks at the boy and glares at him, "You're lucky she can't hear you right now, 'cause from what I've heard, she doesn't look like it but she can actually kick ass."

He backs away, "O-oh, my bad..."

╭── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╮

"Then maybe you should've asked me first before asking them to come." Khai was speaking in a tone that was very unlike him. It sends shivers down Aster's spine, "Or did you invite them first so I have a harder time declining?"

The girl remained silent, Khai walks closer and stares down at her, "You know, I especially dislike people who get mad at others for things that are out of their control."

╰── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╯

    "So what do we do?"

"Uh, should we call the nurse?"

"Really? it's not like she's having a seizure or anything, she's just spaced out. Ugh, boys."

"Hey, what does our gender have to do with this?!"

"EVERYONE SHUT YOUR ASSHOLES, NONE OF YOU ARE HELPING," Maja yells and heaves. She then looks over to Rhiane. "Do you know long this usually last?"

"Sorry, I'm not sure..." Rhiane gives her an uncertain look, "But I hav-"

Everyone turns around as the boys from the opposite corner of the room play the Chrissy Wake Up! remix while bursting into laughter.

    Rhiane frowns, "...an idea."

╭── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╮

The girl grits her teeth, "Fine! Tell them that they're uninvited!"

"What? No, you tell them that. You invited them, not me." Khai closes his eyes and turns around and sighs, "Such sense of entitlement, and you're not even nearly as cute as the captain's sister." He walks away, leaving the girl stunned.

Aster's face heats up, 'Holy sh*t, was that cool or what? No! I can't think of him like that. Xavier is like, a buh-jillion times cooler than that egoistic show-off! That's right! I can't believe I just thought he was cool. Haha, I've completely lost it!'

╰── ⋅ ⋅ ── ✩ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──╯

"Hold that thought. Hey, IDIOTS! This isn't the time to joke around!"

"Woah, woah, woah pres! Chill out, it's just a joke! And if this has happened many times before just like that girl said, I'm sure she's gonna be just fine~" Jake 'if-you-can't-see-him-he's-probably-in-detention' Bryson beams at the 24/7 stone-faced class president, Maja 'iron-fisted' Stewart.

When Aster snaps back to her reality, she was greeted by the faces of half of the class, surrounding her with inquisitive looks and knitted eyebrows.

"OH, WHAT THE F*CK" Aster jumps out of her seat and trips on her feet, hitting her head on the storage cabinet placed at the back of the class.

"Ugh, you jinxed it." Maja glares at Jake and rushes over to aid Aster.

"Well, at least the song worked..." Jake mutters.

That's awesome, you should've told me you were running!" She beamed. "I wasn't planning to run. My mom urged me to. For college credit or something." It's been two excruciating weeks since Khai joined them on their morning walk to school. Aster doesn't appreciate the fact that she still feels weird around the guy. He still makes her heart skip, her breath stop, and her cheeks warm, but thankfully, not as much as before and not as intense as the first time it happened. Why a stranger has this kind of effect on her could only mean one thing and she does everything in her power to not think about it.
