[Present Day]
Leah’s POV
Elyse and I are pacing in the tunnel that leads to the girls dorms, grabbing a quick snack and coffee that one of the omegas thought to bring in for us. Thank Goddess these people have their heads on straight because I feel like I’m losing mine.
“Where the hell did they go?” I all but screamed “The search party was supposed to round our wolves up and burn the rogues and look for Ellinore while they were out there. How much longer until our surveillance is back up and running?”
“It should only be another ten to fifteen minutes now. We weren’t prepared for the power surge Bertha gave us.” Elyse says to me in a slow clam voice, like o
Leah’s POV“You crazy little bitch, I should have known to put you in your place years ago. How dare you kidnap and lock up an Elder, you will never have any authority in this pack.” Erik snarls as he lunges at me.I dodge and roll to the side, just as someone else jumps at me while my focus is occupied by Erik. I took a blow to the head that sent me crashing to my stomach, but nothing I haven’t had before. I guess growing up with physical punishments as a general rule and practice has its merits in some situations. I feigned injury as my attacker went to grab my hair and I rolled, grabbed his wrist and reversed our positions. I had Elder Seamus pinned face first into the floor with one arm twisted up as high as I could force it while he laid there unable to move but with an oddly triumphant look mixed with the pain on
Leah’s POV“We’ve found her on our surveillance, she’s hiding out. It seems like she’s looking or waiting for something, come and look.” Tammy, one of our lead omega communicators, speaks quickly in one breath. “She’s over near the Concordat border by the Red Claw and Blue Moon crossing.” pointing to one of our many screens.“What the hell?” Elyse exclaims. “How did she get all the way over there?” She looks at me confused.“No idea, but she was the main designer on the tunnel system, she knows it like the back of her hand and she knew you were going to set off Bertha, so she probably took off just to get out of range and ended up there. But, why hasn’t she checked in? That’s not like her, an
Damien’s POV“This one is already of use to me and will be more effective in the coming weeks. He should not have been involved in your ridiculous games.” Alpha Max snaps at, I assume, the witch standing off to my left, but out of my line of sight. I couldn’t place it out in the woods, but her scent is different. I’ve never been around a witch before to know what scent markers they have to distinguish them from other creatures, but she has the faint scent of a wolf that isn’t someone else's scent on her. Maybe she is mated to a wolf and I am smelling her mate's scent since they blend when a couple is fully mated. If not that, could she be a hybrid?“He stumbled upon me, my lord, as I was casting enchantments as you instructed. He was strong enough to sense and cross through my protection barrier, I decided i
Leah’s POV“Alphas?” Tammy asks for our attention. “I know it's not my place, but I was thinking, while we were waiting for all of the systems to come online, about the problem we are having communicating with the groups we have sent out to retrieve our fallen.” She hesitates like she’s going to be in trouble.“Tammy, it’s ok, if you have any idea that might help us we want to hear it, no matter how crazy or out there it may be. You never know what could be useful. We want to know what you’re thinking.” I encouraged. Trying to break these omegas out of the habit of believing their thoughts and ideas are worthless has been a chore. The one thing that Elyse, Ellinore and I all agree on is that all contributions are helpful. Every project we have in place has been aided by id
Ellinore’s POV“Oh Shit! Flare, what are we doing here?” I ask my wolf. We were just heading to a tunnel to run for safety after hearing Elyse got the all clear to set off Bertha. I did not want to be in range of that thing at full blast. I had the pleasure of not believing Elyse when she designed the thing so she challenged me to be the test dummy. Not one to back down from a challenge and really not afraid of whatever she had in that shoebox sized container, I accepted.[Rewind 2 years - Bertha testing and combat training]“Grunt…Umph.” Is all I can say as Leah flips me onto my back with a superior smile on her face. I twist up to sweep her leg, but she jumps back out of my reach. I use the momentum to roll myself up to my fe
Every 5-10 chapters , or so I am going back through and double checking my writing for continuity, grammar and any other errors. This is my first ever published work so it and myself are a work in progress. The more training that I do and the more I go back over my own work, the better I can make it. Feel free to leave constructive comments at the end of each chapter. If you feel more details are needed, or less for that matter I want to know. I have an outline of the general story, but as these characters grow some of them are starting to change and think differently than I had originally planned. This is a fun process, that I love learning about. Thank you for going on this journey with me!! Miss L
Leah’s POV“Checking comms.” I say to Jason. “I’m checking in every 5 minutes, text me if you don’t hear from me.”“Got it Boss” He replies and I growl. This in turn earns me a chuckle from him. “You dad and Elder John are with Luna Reis in the Blazing River Bunker, and they are kind of afraid of you right now.” Another chuckle. “They saw Bertha in action…” he trails off.“This is how I know you’ll be a good Beta, you only push my buttons enough to piss me off when you can follow up with good news. I should be to them in 20 minutes, have all the communicators check in with injury and loss statuses. I want all of our fallen ready for a burial fire tonight, we will celebrate their lives and their
Elyse’s POVWe are running through the tunnels to the Blazing River Pack bunker where Tammy’s grandma is helping with rescue and recovery. As we gain access through the bolted door with our bracelets, the sight that meets me is truly amazing. The bunker is huge, at least as big as the cold cellar we had to pass through to get from the Concordat pack house to the war room. It’s divided into several sections by shelving units and free standing storage cabinets. As we walk through the door we pass the area designated as the kitchen. It has 2 industrial size floor to ceiling ovens and 3 stove tops along the farthest wall where vent hoods can take the fumes up and out of the underground bunker. 4 double door refrigerators stand side by side perpendicular to the ovens creating a wall. Making a line down the center of th
83LeahThe warmth I have been feeling was so comfortable at first, but now it is getting suffocating. I’m not dead, I know that much, but I don’t know where I am or how long I have been here. I was very confused when I first woke up. This place has nothing, everything is white and cozy. If I focus on anything I can get it to focus and become tangible, but it takes a lot of concentration and makes my brain hurt. There is no day or night, my body just sleeps when it wants to and is awake when it wants too. It was very relaxing at first, with no thoughts running through my head to distract me or need to be anywhere, but as my mind began to put together the reasons I was here, the more anxious I became. I need to get back to my pack, my mate and my family. I don’t feel trapped or caged, but I have no idea how to leave either. “Relax child, you are safe and so is everyone you love. You need to rest and so does your wolf. You both accomplished great things and you need to heal. You have i
Damien The amount of wolves that dropped everything that they were doing was astounding. I think the whole pack came out to protect their Alpha Lunas. Hundreds of shifters surround us, men, women and children of all ages. My heart swelled with pride at the loyalty we were being shown right now. The rogues around us didn’t know what to do with the sudden onslaught of new fresh fighters. Still kneeling next to Leah, my sister and Danielle, I could see the rogue wolves on their front line shifting anxiously, waiting for a command. “You will not get any further instructions. Your leader is dead!” Taylor shouted at the rogues. You could tell they were nervous and had no clue what they were doing. They all still had a faint red glow in their eyes. It was faded, but still present. There must have been some level of control still over them. “You don’t have to fight us anymore, you are no longer under the control of the Darkness.” Demitri stands up next to Elyse, still maintaining
Leah “We need Selene and Niobe for this. I don’t know how to control the magic enough to fight this thing.” I look at Ellinore, pleading with my eyes for her to understand I have no idea what I am doing. She crawls over to me and wraps me in a hug, then I feel another weight on top of hers and I can smell Danielle’s scent wafting around us calming us both down. “Hey, I don’t mean to break up the love fest, but we have a problem here.” Demitri shouts over his shoulder while still keeping a grip on Elyse. We all look over and Max’s form is splitting again into the elemental monsters. Six hideous creatures of our nightmares are oozing off of Max’s form. His form gets darker and more tar-like and slow as he divides into the monsters. “We can’t fight them again, we all barely got through the last fight.” Jess cries, tears running down her face as she leans her back more into Trent’s embrace. I can feel her panic through the pack bond. “We can. Look at them, they are half the size
Leah I am so confused…and tired. My whole mind is just tired, like something is stealing my energy. “Babe, you need to stand up.” Damien says to me. Damien, my mate, the love of my life since I was five. The person who has always made me feel strong and safe. “How was Max able to block you from my memory? It didn’t last long, but he was able to separate us for a bit and used that weakness to trap us. We can’t let him do that to anyone else.” I am holding his hand, refusing to break contact again. I realize he must feel the same as he laces our fingers together and rubs his thumb in circles on the back of my hand. I still feel like I am being drained of energy. I wonder if it has to do with this bubble thing we are trapped in. I reach my other hand out to try and touch the shimmering membrane and I jump back as it shocks me. “What? What happened?” Damien looks worried and surprised. “We need to figure out what is making me feel so drained and we have to figure out how to bre
Danielle Where could they have gone? I know Leah was standing behind me keeping an eye on Max’s movements while we handled our elemental monsters, which I am still not convinced are completely gone. As much as they sucked to battle, it was too easy. “When did you see her last?” I ask Ellinore, not having to specify who I am talking about. “Not sure, the blob split and all hell broke loose. She was behind us as the monster started to attack. I didn’t see which way Max went though, did you?” “No. I just hope Damien is with her and they aren’t fighting alone.” My heart hurts at the thought. I couldn’t have taken out the robo monster without Ellinore. The Goddesses were right, our mates strengthened our powers. “I have a feeling Max knows that we strengthen each other and wanted to keep us separate to get to Leah. She’s our tether, the thing that linked us all in the beginning and the person we all gravitate to now. If he breaks her, we are in serious trouble.” The rest of
Jess Oh my goddess there is blood and people everywhere. I was so not made for this kind of thing. This foul smelling swamp demon is after me and I have no idea how to really fight. Trent is working so hard to keep me protected and I just feel like a burden and distraction that keeps getting in the way. “Jess, look out!” I hear as another wave of water is thrown my way. I duck and roll, much more agile than I expected. I run over to Trent who is lying on the ground soaked to the bone and the slimy residue seems to be affecting him, slowing him down. “Help me!” I cry out not sure if anyone can actually hear me. There is so much fighting all around me, the sound almost deafening. “Silence, child, you are more than capable of handling this. You were made to handle all of this. Do not let your abysmal upbringing make you underestimate your worth. You represent the wood element. Strong and steadfast, a sturdy beacon of home for your pack. Remember what your element does, your
Leah “What?” I question as I can feel the light of life go out in my head and my heart. “What’s wrong?” “Leah, babe, just get up and come with me, there’s nothing we can do right now.” Damien is grabbing at my arms to get me out from under the dead wolf, and trying to usher me away. “Wait, why do we have to go, we have to try and help…” “We can’t help him now, we need to go.” Damien cut me off. “I know you, you’ll dwell on it. We have to keep our eyes on Max, he’s starting to move.” Damien is tugging on my arms now. I can’t help it, I feel compelled to stay with this wolf, who literally died on top of me. I wrenched my hand out of his. “No, I need to see who it is.” I turned back to the wolf and my whole world halted. “No.” It was a whisper as my breathing became shallow and I struggled to remain upright. Damien caught me around the waist and eased me to the ground. This was the first person since Jason that I have seen killed because of me, and this was the worst part ab
Leah As the barrier breaks a gust of wind rushes through the grounds whipping my hair around and almost knocking me down. I could feel the power radiating in the breeze and absorbing into my skin, reenergizing my whole body. “Whoa! Did you feel that?” Nyx asks me. “Yeah, that was amazing.” “Our children, listen closely.” A loud chorus of voices booms through my skull, vibrating every bone in my body. I grab my head and wince in pain. I look around and realize that I am not the only one. All of us, even the guys are grabbing our heads. “Trust the magic and let us in. Your pack will not survive without our help.” “Alphas, we are here.” Someone shouts from behind me. “The packhouse has our protection.” a roar of approval rises after the statement. “Let your members serve their purpose, just as you all will serve yours.” I gasp a breath in and try to open my mind to what is happening to me. I feel like I am burning up inside, but I can feel my strength grow. I look around a
Leah “INCOMING!!!” Is all that I hear before a flaming fireball with legs comes barreling through the forest knocking down rogues left and right. “Grab these f**kers and lets get a move on, I don’t know how long this will last.” Ellinore’s somewhat crazy laugh whoops through the mindlink. Elyse and Renee stay together, Jessica closely watching them while the rest of us toss the possessed rogues into the trench. “We need to get to the other fights too, Elyse try to do the ground opening thing from here, Niobe said to focus on a specific point and have Leah boost you. Leah, can you pinpoint the fighting and direct her? I’m going to go knock these tools around a bit more. Have that hole open for me when I get there.” She cackles again before blasting off towards another part of the territory.. “You need to explain how you know all of this.” Danielle huffs through the link. “Later, babe, I’m on fire right now!” “You are an idiot” Danielle sighs, “You’re my idiot, but still an id
