Josh sat at the edge of the bed, his bloodshot eyes watching a speck of dust gracefully dance in the air. A stream of morning sunlight bathed the room in a warm glow, a gust of cold air blowing in through the shattered window.
Goosebumps erupted across Josh’s exposed left arm; his right nestled in bandages supporting it up. He barely made any movement, his mouth slightly agape.
Alex was dead.
His best friend. His almost brother. Gone. Swallowing the fact proved harder than actually dealing with the loss. He’d shed enough tears to leave his vision blurred and his eyes burning yet he still failed to believe it. He was with Alex just yesterday, shouting their lungs out whilst playing video games yet now he sat alone in the very room he was trapped in.
His eyes looked down at his hand lifelessly sitting atop his lap. They moved over his knuckles that were colored a pinkish red, a majority bruised. Each time he shut his eyes he could see himself po
“Why not?” Josh snapped his gaze to Amber’s stern one, her decision seemingly unwavering.“You’re not ready,” She simply said, her words hiding behind her sigh. Josh tightly gripped at the cover, unsure whether he’d heard right. He wasn’t ready? These strangers abduct them and get his friend killed and refuse to show him Alex’s body because he’s not ready? What was that even supposed to mean? So, what if he wasn’t ready, that gave him no less of a right to visit Alex. Alex had risked his life to save him, risked everything he’d worked so hard to achieve just so he could keep him safe. Josh’s grief turned to rage, blood rushing to his head making it slightly throb. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He looked away from Amber, his eyes most likely bloodshot.Amber once again sighed, seating herself at the edge of the bed, her back turned to Josh.“Josh I can read
Darkness. It held him in its cold embrace, stifling his body from any movement he tried to take. His chest was suppressed, air barely making it into his lungs. He tried to scream, clawing his way through the nothingness but its only results were his burning airways. He tried to grab whatever it was forcing his body lower into the abyss, grasping for dear life. Finally, air filled his lungs, light gracing his vision. He was free. Free of the monster that was darkness itself, free of the claustrophobic space that pressed against his chest. Free from the never-ending fall to what felt would end in the depths of hell.Am I alive? Alex thought, staring up at the ceiling. He turned his head a bit to face the window, the grey of the outside bringing reassurance to him. He took a deep breath, still finding it slightly hard to breathe, his head turning over to the other side to glance at the gaping door that led to the conjoined bathroom.Something felt off. He&
Alex was defeated, any hope of getting Amber to notice him gone straight out the window. He’d been staring at her for the past hour now, finally gaining freedom from the prison that was his own body. At first, he assumed that it was the blood that had magically teleported him back into his body but after Amber constantly raised his arms to survey them, he was whizzed back in each time. Now he just floated above his body, watching Amber watch him. After three hours of playing ghost, trying to communicate with Amber, and messing with his own body, he was now starting to grow bored. He couldn’t leave the room no matter what hole he tried to creep out off, the gaping door a great taunt. He also couldn’t really breathe properly, at times the air choking him to tears. It wasn’t after watching his body for five hours that he realized that his body wasn’t breathing.I really am dead? For some reason, Alex had managed
The little chat between Bianca and Xavier had only managed to raise questions in Alex to which he knew no answers would come, their lips sealed as if an intruder were present in the room. Their secretiveness was irritating but there was only so much he could ask for. Alex had once again been freed from his body, now just floating above the silent two, waiting for any conversation to happen between them. Maybe he was asking for too much. He already knew Xavier was a man of no words, it seemed Bianca was as well. The duo was overwhelming just standing there silently, even to ghost Alex who was invisible to their gaze, well somewhat at least. Xavier had managed to burn that gruesome killing into Alex’s memory and Bianca just looked like someone who would slay a dragon then kill the princess at the end. Not to say she looked evil or anything but definitely someone to steer far from. Very far. She was no doubt as jaw-dropping as the rest with all the pretty qualit
Alex’s throat burned, the air around him vanishing along with his vision. There was a bone-chilling cold around him, the feeling of death so near it was licking at his ear. There was a sick feeling bubbling in his throat, his insides churning along with his vigorous heartbeats. He wanted to yell out, scream for god’s sake but he barely made a peep, his body slowly descending into hell. He clawed above him, hoping to grasp on the single thread of life that weakly strung to his body, but before he could it tore, his body flung deeper into the abyss. Alex snapped open his eyes, trying not to suffocate with the controlled breathing he was forced into. His entire being was shaken, the sight of darkness spelling fear into him. Was he alive? No Bianca had said that he wasn’t but he still wanted to believe that he wasn’t dead yet. He could at least take comfort in the sight of the celling however he was paralyzed within his body again, unable to break loose f
Those words rang clear through Josh. The revelation just as heart-lifting as the fact that Alex wasn’t dead. He really didn’t know which to be happy about more. The silence stretched along for another solid minute, the news needing time to really sink in. Alex wasn’t dead, better yet there was a way to bring him back? All this news was almost dizzying.“But I’ll need your help, Josh,” Amber said, suddenly all eyes focused onto him. There was no questioning it, he would definitely help as much as he could. It’s the least he could do after Alex had literally thrown his life for him.“Of course, I’ll do anything.”Josh was determined, whatever it was that she had to offer, he was ready to accept.*The moon shone brightly in the pitch sky, a gust of wind cutting through them rendering Josh temporarily blind. He held onto the large sweater he wore, trying to warm himself even wit
“Where am I?” Josh’s voice echoed, his surrounding nothing but emptiness for as far as the eye could see. He clearly remembered drinking the tea but no memories of how he ended up in this place. He’d been walking for hours now, aimlessly moving about in the empty space. Maybe there was an intended destination? Or maybe he was supposed to stay in his spot cause if so then he’d lost it long ago. There weren’t really any instructions given to him so could he really be at fault? He was tempted to call out for the lady in hopes of getting some kind of heads up, maybe even a tutorial or something.“I’m finally here,” The lady said, proofing right in front of Josh who personally wasn’t a fan of jump scares.“My apologies, it's much harder to get into the body of such an important creature.”Important creature? Right. Alex was a pureblood, whatever that meant. At least he finall
The rain came pouring down onto the concrete sidewalks, the large droplets bashing against the window seal blurring out anything to be seen beyond. The sky had turned a bleak grey darkening the surroundings. Thunder rumbled loudly, lightning crashing every so often to coat everything in blinding white.Alex was seated in the small living room, scrolling through the few TV channels. Jamie was taking a nap along with their mum so he was the only one awake. The house was dark, the only light coming from their old model tv, the booming of thunder causing Alex to jump at times.A knock sounded at the door; Alex unsure if he had actually heard it. The rain was pouring so loud that he thought he’d heard wrong but the knock came again. Alex stood, unsure whether to check or not.Why would someone be at the door in this crazy weather and even if there was someone then why didn’t they use the doorbell? The only person that never used it was&helli
I could definitely get used to waking up like this. Alex was staring at Xavier’s sleeping form, watching the pale eyelashes tremble with each controlled breath. He looked so calm, so ethereal, the blearily light from outside making the vampire glow. He was tempted to caress the pale face but feared disturbing his sleep. He had awoken much earlier at the excitement of seeing Jamie after what felt like years, the thought jabbing at him to spring out of bed to start getting ready even if dawn had just broke. Instead, he burrowed into the arms already holding him, breathing in the heavenly scent and trying to convince himself that it wasn’t weird. They hadn’t labelled anything but surely whatever they had done allowed for his current actions now. If not, oh well. Alex eventually found sleep, awaking again at Xavier’s insistence. The sun seemed fully awake now though it was hard to tell with the heavy clouds plaguing the sky. They spent no time getting ready, walking downstairs to find
Alex’s drawn brows shot up in surprise, noticing the leaves now stuck in his friend’s hair and the dirt staining the not so obvious places on him. His freckled skin had patches of mud and his hair even seemed a little damp.“What, what happened?” Alex stuttered, trying his very hardest, to feel bad but finding it a tiny bit funny.“Xander that mother fucker. I just know it was him, he was the one to coincidentally find me, with some shit eating grin. And I had no fucking idea where we were so I had to accept his help!” Josh was basically screeching, Alex having to put his hand over his mouth to hide the wobbly smile fighting its way onto his face.“And then?”“THEN! He wanted compensation and said I should let him have a taste. What else could he taste!”Alex had to shake his head a bit when his ears rung. He took a deep breath, both trying to calm his amusement and also little worried at the almost crazed look on Josh’s face.“So uh, how does that lead to you screaming my name first
Alex watched as Xavier struggled to speak, ultimately saying nothing. Alex finally calmed himself, sitting up, Xavier giving him the space too. Alex kept his hand over Xavier’s, afraid that if he let go he wouldn’t get another chance to.Alex watched, Xavier now avoiding his gaze, almost as if he were ashamed. He hated seeing even a slither of such emotion being present with Xavier. He wanted to wipe the feeling away, make sure the other was never plagued by any of the negative feelings present.Alex was reminded of the day Xander had first appeared and how Xavier, for the first time he had ever seen, was expressive and now was the same. Just a different emotion.Mimicking the actions of earlier, Alex brought his forehead against Xavier’s forehead and this seemed to surprise him.“Alex,” Xavier finally spoke, shivers shaking Alex’s entirety.“I’m here,” Alex answered, his thumb caressing Xavier’s hand, comforting him in his own way.A particularly strong gust blew into the room tousli
A rose scent awoke Alex, his eyes squinting at the harsh sunlight beating down on him. He shifted, sitting up from his grassy bed, endless fields of swaying weeds filling his vision. The scent grew stronger, calming his mind and relaxing his body. Alex stood, looking around soon identifying a woman not too far from him. Her midnight black hair danced in the sun, her back turned to him. He walked towards her, his bare feet carrying him forward but he made no progress in his journey. The longer he walked, the faster he came to the realization that he wasn’t going to get any closer so he stopped, watching the mysterious figure. As if only sensing him now, she turned, her piercing amber eyes stabbing into the depths of his soul. She watched him just as he watched her. A light smile graced her features, one that blossomed her beauty to an immeasurable level. She mouthed something but no words left her rosy lips. Before anything else could happen, she vanished with the breeze, Alex gaspin
Shifting awake, Alex pried open an eye only for his heart to launch itself at the sight of Josh staring wide eyed at him. With a click of his tongue to let his annoyance be known, he let his hand run over his face, drawing his brows at the other who held off the intense look to instead turn to face the ceiling.“Last time I was up first , Xander was standing there ready to bite our heads off,” Josh said, Alex letting out an annoyed mumble.“So, you waited till I got up first, no you woke me up with that stupid ass stare of yours, just so I could lose my head first?” Alex grumbled, his voice grating against his throat, taking satisfaction when the other flinched away at his bad breath.Sitting up, Alex scanned the room, making sure there was no vampire ready suck em dry before jabbing at Josh’s head.“He’s not here,” Alex spoke, throwing his legs over the edge of the bed, stretching his back and sighing at the pop. As satisfying as that was, he just wished he could have a decent night
Sitting up with a groan, Josh turned to look at Alex who was staring intently at something. Turning to focus on what it was, Josh had to squint quite a bit to make out a figure standing just at the start of the forestry, his white hair the only thing to identify the man.Really anything else was too far for him to see.He threw his friend another glance, knowing that their spar was definitely over now. Giving an encouraging pat to his love sick friend, Alex gave him a parting head nod and like that he watched the other walk off, almost in envy. How nice it must be to like someone that much and have it reciprocated. He didn’t know where he stood with Alaster. Spending more time with the male hadn’t changed anything, if anything he’d just grown to respect the vampire more but romantically it sat at something he was happy not pursuing. At least that’s what he told himself. He wasn’t so sure he’d be as lucky as Alex and he was still dipping his toes in the deep pool of genuinely liking so
“What if that dude actually eats me or something.” Josh finally confessed in a quiet voice.Alex was silent for a while before humming in acknowledgment. Amber had said the vampire wouldn’t hurt Josh but he chose not to entirely trust her. Not yet at least. Xander was just as strong as Xavier, what was holding the vampire back from harming any of them in Xavier’s absence?Josh slammed him with a pillow at his silence, Alex finally letting out a laugh. Getting out an agreement through his giggles, he finally calmed, falling back onto the covers.“Man, it’s been a while since I’ve slept on a bed,” Alex sighed, Josh, now silently staring at Alex.“I don’t mind you taking the floor,” Josh said, Alex shushing him with a pillow to the face.“As if, you just want the bed to yourself don’t ya.”*Xavier had returned to sitting at the edge of the bed when a rough knock came at the door, interrupting the deadly silence of the room. Before the person could even open the door, a deep scowl had al
Alex stood in front of Xavier door, trying to calm the bubbling nerves cooking inside him. Xavier was much less intimidated when he acted like a drunk kitten but after the whole ordeal that transpired just minutes ago, well that kitten just turned to a ferocious lion.Alex raised his hand to knock on the door only to drop it again and ruffle his hair.Come on, there’s nothing to scared of. Yeah. He’s only just really mad after encountering the person he seems to really despise after only recovering from some once in a thousand-year sickness type of thing. Yeah, its totally fine!Alex bit his lip, ready to yank his hair from all the overthinking. You’re overreacting, just go in.Taking the deepest breath that made him a bit tipsy, Alex finally knocked on the door. It was a bit quiet but he still knocked. There wasn’t an answer for a while and Alex was sure Xavier hadn’t heard him.As he was debating whether to knock again or just leave, the door swung open and there Xavier stood, tower
Brother?Xavier has a twin Brother! As those words left the strangers mouth, his crazy orange hair gradually turned a shiny black that was on par to a new moon’s midnight, the chains once holding him dropping to the ground producing a dull sound that caused Alex to flinch.Xavier’s expression had no changes. As if silently agreeing to the notion.Xavier has a brother!Alex felt dizzy from the sudden information slammed at him, his brain taking a few minutes to reboot itself. Now brazenly staring at the so-called brother, Alex scanned the others features, squinting his eyes to make sure he wasn’t imagining all this. Only now that the announcement was made did the others featured subtly change to one that looked exactly like Xavier’s.They weren’t just any twins, they were identical! How was someone who looked as pure and holt as Xavier, closely related to someone who was very likely to be the spawn of Satan. It didn’t take a genius to figure that this brother was up to no good.Questio
