"Thank you for calling me. I am sorry they caused so much trouble for you and I appreciate you not charging them," I said, shaking the Chief's hand while pinching the bridge of my nose with my other hand. Valentine's drinking had only gotten worse since his mother's passing but this was the last straw.
"It's no worry Mr. Rossi. I was young once too. And I heard your boy graduated Validictorian, so congratulations. Just tell him and Mr. Agosti to keep the partying to a more normal level next time," the Chief replied smiling. Sometimes it paid to be a big supporter of our local police force.
I watched as my son and his cousin Matteo were escorted from the cells in the back to the front desk where I was waiting on them. They were so wasted they could barely stand. I scoffed and colsed my eyes taking a deep breath, trying to gain some patience. Tomorrow they would be in for a rude awakening.
My driver Toni came forward as we approached the doors to assist with getting them in the car. I looked around the room as we left and my heart almost stopped when I saw her. There, just 100 feet to my left was the brave girl who promised to change the world with her photos. She was sitting on the ground with a dog in her lap, broken and crying "please don't take him!".
I asked Toni and the officers to get the boys in the car while I quickly made my way over to her. "Miss I'm sorry but he's got to go back. He doesn't belong to us anymore," the officer holding the leash replied, gently tugging at the dog.
As I approached I called out to her. "Adira?" She lifted her face up and out of the dog's neck and I gasped when I saw her, tears and blood streaming down her black and blue face. "My god child what happened?"
She started crying harder and wrapped her small arms around the dog who was doing it's best to comfort her. "What happened to her?" I asked loudly, looking around to the officers near her. I caught the chief's eye and as he approached I heard the officer closer to her say "We don't know sir. She stumbled in like this a few minutes ago."
"And none of you thought to call for medical? Call now," I said angrily, pulling out my phone and texting Toni to dump the boys at home and come right back for me. One of the nearby officers picked up the phone and called for an ambulance while I squatted down closer to Adira. "Adira, cara, we're going to get you some help. It's ok now you're safe," I said gently petting her head.
I gave the officer the information I had remembered on Adira - her age, the college she was in and that she had no family near - her only brother was stationed overseas and she had an uncle that worked for the government but lived states away. The officer tugged on the dog again but before he could speak again I cut him off. "Leave the damn dog. I'll buy him. I don't care. Can't you see he's the only one smart enough to offer her comfort around here," I snapped. I looked over to the chief and said "I'll buy you two more for him, just let her have him." He nodded and asked the officer to get his paperwork for me.
Finally the ambulance arrived and I was able to convince her to go with them, promising to follow and bring the dog - Charlie. I wrote a check for the Chief and told him to have an officer come by in a few hours to get her statement before I jumped in the car with Toni and the dog and headed to the hospital.
It had been worse than I thought. Once they finally got Adira taken care of and in a private room - at my request as I told them I would be paying the bill- I was shocked to see how bad she really was. She had given them permission to share her medical information with me and after taking Charlie into her room, where he promptly jumped up and laid next to her, the doctor gave me the run down. Adira had been brutally attacked. It did appear that she had fought back and they did collect dna and took photos for when the officers arrived. Luckily it looked like she narrowly missed being raped, but that the assault did appear sexual in nature.
When the officers came back, I woke Adira and with me and Charlie by her side she told them what happened to her. She had been invited out by her room mate to an end of the year party. She said she didn't drink but that she agreed to go after her room mate's constant begging. She said when she got there the party was in full swing and that her friend introduced her around. She met a guy named Chris who had seemed really nice. They had spent most of the night talking and laughing. When It was almost midnight she told him she needed to go because she worked the next day. He offered to walk her home which she thought was nice and she let her friend know she was leaving.
They'd only walked a few blocks before he attacked her, shoving her into the woods along the street they were walking down. She had fought him with everything she had, receiving a concussion, a fractured orbital bone, two black eyes, a broken nose, a broken arm and various cuts and bruises before finally escaping and running to the police station, which was closer than her dorm.
After the officers left I told Adira that I would return in the morning, but that I would be leaving a guard outside her door and that Charlie was hers now and that he would be staying with her. She tried to apologize and I wouldn't let her.
Charlie, as I found out when the officers came, was actually a dog that had just flunked out of K9 school. They had actually arranged to have the kennel he came from put him up for adoption so it worked out. For whatever reason him and Adira had taken to each other like I've never seen before. Even the officers were suprised as he had never shown much affection even to his handler.
The next morning I had put Valentine and Matteo on the plane to Italy. He would be working under my brother, Matteo's father, in Italy until he could get his act together. Then I returned to the hospital to Adira. She had a long road to recovery, though by the end of summer her physical wounds had healed. When she was getting discharged I convinced her to stay with me for her recovery and I hired a nurse to come and check in on her.
It took a few weeks for me to convince her to do therapy. She had become a shell of the the girl I had met the year before and I was really concerned for her mental state. At the end of summer I could see her starting to peek out again and was hopeful until she started back her classes. Then the nightmares and the panic attacks came on.
Since I was already familiar with the dean as she attended the same collage Valentine had just graduated from, I called him and informed him what was going on and they allowed her to complete her courses that year online. She spent the year in intensive therapy and with med management was able to do a few classes during the summer in person. She was very smart and worked hard and was able to complete her degree in three years in photojournalism. By the end of her years in college she was able to be around others as long as Charlie was with her.
AdiraThe gallery opening was less than two weeks away and I was stressed and excited at the same time. Though I still had 7 shoots to do before then most of my time would be focused here. I had sent out all the final prints from my Egypt trip, closing out those contracts and only needed to finish setting up the space here for it.I could hear Adrian on the phone with one of the newer photographers that I had invited. This gallery wouldn't just be for my works, it would be a way for new and up coming photographers to show off what they got. It had actually been Adrian's idea to help fill the space and take some of the focus off of me. He had been a find and I honestly don't know if I would have been able to get it off the ground without him. When I had told Gio that I wanted to open a gallery he helped me set up interviews here in the empty building. He acted as the one actually looking and I sat in playing the role of secretary. Adrian was the only one who greeted both of u
ValentineMy father had called earlier and asked that I join him for lunch. I was mildly surprised as he had been in and out of the office a lot this week. I had a meeting at 1 so I asked if he minded ordering in. He said no problem and he'd see me at 12. It was 12:15 by the time I stepped out onto his floor. I noticed the difference immediately as instead of blank walls desert prints now hung. While I had always seen the photos that hung there, I'd never really paid attention to them. They were amazing. I felt like I could reach out and touch the sand in some of them. Adira must have been by.I hurried to my father's office and walked right in. "Sorry I'm late. I couldn't get Craig..." I started before realizing my father wasn't eating alone."Well come in. Don't just stand in the door. Craig is always the worst to get off the phone," my father replied as my eyes stayed on Adira. She smiled at me a little and I nodded back. "Hello. I saw your photos out there. They
Adira"Micah, tilt your chin up slightly. Yep right there. Now look into the lens and lick your lips slowly," I called out, snapping away. "Alright. Head back, arch your spine a little and stroke it. I'm gonna play the audio, just do what feels natural."Micah was the last of the 3 "Tattooed Hotties" that I had today. I had learned early on that it was hard to keep them hard while giving them completely unsexual direction during filming and since I sure as hell wasn't going to touch them I needed to give them ammunition. So depending on where we were shooting I had several options for them, allowing them to choose what made them most comfortable. That was a big reason why I was so popular.Micah was currently listening to excerpts from one of the erotica novels I'd read and recorded. Men won't usually admit to reading it, but hearing it was apparently a huge turn on for them.Micah was close to finishing and I called out to him. "Look this way Micah," I said softly, waiting
AdiraSaturday was a perfect day for the shoot for Emilia and her friends. I had told Emilia that the girls could get ready here together while I set up the sets but I actually had a surprise for them. I was already at the door with Charlie when Toni pulled up and the girls piled out. Emilia came over to hug me and introduce her friends while Toni unloaded their bags onto the porch. Charlie was excited having the girls all fawn over him and even Toni laughed at his antics. I told the girls to grab their bags and head into the first room on the left. Once they were in Toni came over and handed me 4 checks - one for each girl. "Seriously, thank you from me and the other parents. They couldn't believe how little you were charging," He said smiling and shaking my hand. I smiled back and said "Did you tell them you got the friends and family discount?" He laughed and said "Yep I sure did. Now show me to the grill and I'll get the brisket on for you." "You're a life saver. I
ValentineIt was Saturday afternoon and I still couldn't get her off my mind. I didn't understand what this power was that she had over me. I'd always had my pick but I'd never felt this ... desire to be around one. Usually I enjoyed them wrapped up in beautiful dresses or with lingerie, but here I was thinking about a girl in a t shirt. It's early afternoon and I was sitting here staring out of my balcony wondering what she was doing until I remembered. She said she had a shoot today and then invited my father over for a cook out. Maybe I could just happen to go over there...I quickly changed out of the sweats I was wearing into some jeans and a sweater and drove out to my father's house. I pulled up about 3:30 and was glad to see his car was still there. Unless he had walked... He said she lived close but never said where. Well I was already here so I figured I would just knock. He opened the door himself which surpised me and ushered me. "I wasn't sure you were going to
AdiraIt had been difficult to keep my eyes off of him. He looked handsome in his tailored suits but in jeans... Damn the man looked like sin, like his navy sweater and light wash jeans were just poured over his body, accenting evey line of his muscles as he moved. He had caught me starring once and just grinned. He knew how good looking he was. Surprisingly Charlie went right back to his bone after greeting both Valentine and Gio and even I wasn't feeling the kind of nerves I usually did around men.Once we set the bowls down on the table Gio suggested I give Valentine a tour of my home and studio. "Go ahead. I'll watch the veggies while I'm cooking these steaks. By the time you're done they'll be cooked and rested and we'll be able to dig in. You did an amazing job redesigning the place. Be proud and show it off for once," he said smiling at me. Valentine turned to me and said "You redesigned it?" I could see the curiousity in his face and smiled back. "Come on, I'll s
GioI couldn't keep the smile off my face. I knew that if I could ever get my son in the same room with Adira that they would hit it off. Charlie likes him and she's not afraid of him. I've seen their similarities over the years and I knew that they would be good for each other. She was probably showing him the closet and the bathroom now - both of which had been designed by her - every material hand picked. She called them her master pieces and they were really in good taste.I removed the vegetables and began serving when I heard them walking through the kitchen. I looked up to watch and saw Adira talking animatedly a slight blush on her face while Valentine watched her, an intense look on his face. I can't remember the last time I saw her talking like that to anyone besides me nor the last time he actually paid attention to a conversation with a woman that wasn't work related. Now I just had to make sure he didn't ruin it.They joined me at the table, still talking about th
AdiraIt was Wednesday and I was still thinking about Valentine. Our dinner had ended well after our little charity issue and he had surprised me when they were leaving by wrapping me up in a hug just like Gio had done. It had definately felt different though from when Gio hugged me. Gio's hugs always felt comforting, relaxing and soothing. But with Valentine, I wondered if he could feel my heart racing as he pressed his body to mine. His touch had made me feel... well things that I hadn't felt in years as he pressed my body closer to his, the smell of his cologne infusing itself in my brain.4 days later and I was still blushing when I thought about him. I tried to stay focused on work, there was plenty for me to do and yet he still managed to sneak his way in here and there. This was my last shoot of the week before the gallery opening on Friday and I hoped that I'd be too nervous and busy with last minute adjustments to think about him the rest of the week.I arrived right b
