"Isabelle?"

'`Who is Isabelle?", Sarah asked, fixing her gaze at the policeman. I could see the tears stacked up in her eyes.

"We haven't known her full identity, and we can't say for now. But I can assure you, Ma'am, we'll make sure to get her.' The policeman replied.

Sarah slumped backward on the chair, and the tears which she had been holding all the while came down freely on their own.

"Please, do keep in touch with us. We'll be expecting to hear from you." I said to the officer and we shook hands.

Sarah had just resumed work for the first time after some months off from work, and just at the same time, she had to face another heartbreaking news.

I escorted her to her office and her eyes got stuck to Clara's picture displaying on her phone. She stared at it for a while and burst into another round of weeping.

"Raya was all I had. She was the only sister that I never had." She tried to speak up but her cries were unending.

I held her from behind, an

SARAH"Isabelle?" "Did you say, Isabelle?" Lilian thought for a moment, probably trying to figure out something."The police are on the case, and hopefully, very soon, they'll find her.On my bed was a bundle of clothes and shoes Lilian got for me. If anyone saw them, they'd think I was going to open a boutique. "This dress is a little…." Before I could complete my statement, Lilian hushed me, crossing her index finger over her mouth."Can you hear that.?" She asked, looking at the door. I could hear nothing but she was sure she heard something. She rushed out and I followed behind. She stopped at the end of the stairs and looked in the kitchen's direction. I took a few steps down, slowly so as not to make a noise, and halted too."Raya told me everything. It was all my fault for not being there when Sarah needed me the most. But now I am back, and I want my woman back too"I heard Julian say.How could he know about it and keep it away from me? And Raya, she

SARAHThe meeting room was sleek and modern, filled with an air of anticipation. The Investors for the highly regarded "World Changers' project were seated around a polished oak table. Their restlessness was palpable, evident from the tapping of fingers and occasional signs of impatience.Leo sat nervously on his chair, fidgeting with the corner of his notebook. He glanced at his watch, then at the empty seat beside him. I sat beside him, trying to hide my own growing anxiety.A middle-aged man with a strict demeanor, Mr. Pete, who was one of the investors for the project, leaned forward and glared at his watch."Where is Clara? This meeting was supposed to start twenty minutes ago." He spoke under his breath. Leo made uncomfortable shifts as the tension in the room increased. He cleared his throat, attempting to break the silence."Mr. Pete," his voice trembled slightly, "I apologize for the delay. Clara will be here any moment, I promise. Can we please give

SARAH"Come on, Sarah!"Emma swiftly plopped herself down on the couch, shaking her legs like a child fueled with an incredulous secret waiting to be shared. She beamed at me, unable to contain her excitement for a moment longer."You won't believe it! Mom said I could come visit you for the whole weekend! Just me, without anybody else!" Emma's words bounced around the room.Emma looked around the house, admiring and touching everything that her hands could lay on. She touched a flower vase by the side, and there it went, crashing on the floor."Oops!" Emma gasped, her eyes wide with surprise, as she stared at the shattered pieces of the flower vase lying on the floor."Why would my mother say that? I'm a married woman, for goodness sake!!" I yelled.Emma's eyes widened, and she staggered slightly, the words crashing into her like a tidal wave."M-married?" Emma stammered, a mix of surprise and confusion etching across her face. SARAHI busily bustled around the kitchen, trying to balance multiple tasks—cooking and washing the dishes. The delicious aroma of a home-cooked meal filled the air, and my passion for cooking was evident in the way I was bent on finishing the cooking, even though I was tired. As the clinking and clanking of utensils and dishes echoed through the kitchen, my mind was focused solely on preparing the perfect dinner for my new-found crazy family. After what felt like hours of cooking, I finally managed to complete one of my signature dishes: a creamy pasta with succulent pieces of grilled chicken. I made my way towards the dining area, holding a tray full of steaming plates of food.As I entered the dining room, my eyes widened in surprise. There was my cousin Emma, sitting at the far end of the dining table, with Clara's adorable baby boy cradled in her arms. The two of them were gleefully engaged in a playful game of peek-a-boo, and my heart skipped a beat."Emm

LEOI stood in front of the imposing police station building, my heart pounding with anticipation. The last few months have been a whirlwind of emotions for my wife, ever since the tragic death of her friend, Raya.Taking a deep breath, I hesitantly approached the officer stationed at the front desk. The officer, a burly man with a stern expression, looked up from his paperwork as I tentatively spoke up."Excuse me, officer," I said, my voice quivering slightly. "I was wondering if I could speak to Officer Nathan. Is he available?"The officer's gaze shifted to me, his eyes narrowing for a moment as he sized up the young me standing before him."Officer Nathan, huh?" He grumbled, clearly unimpressed. "Yeah, he's in his office. Take a left here and go straight down the hallway. It's the last door on the right."I nodded gratefully, my anxiety ebbing slightly at the officer's response. I followed the directions, making my way through the buzzing station. The

SARAH"What is this?" Leo asked, flinging the test results on Clara's face.Clara stood before Leo, her hands trembling uncontrollably as she tried to gather her thoughts. The weight of the situation bore heavily on her, and beads of sweat began to form on her forehead. Leo's eyes bore into Clara's, waiting for her to speak, but she went instantly dumb. Finally, Clara took a deep breath and attempted to speak, but she found herself stammering. "Leo, I... I don't know how it happened. The test results... they... they came back like that. But I...I swear, It has nothing to do with me. Something must have gone wrong in the lab... or maybe it was a mistake. I just don't know.""And you want me to believe that?" Clara just shook her head, her eyes were filled with tears as she held her mouth tightly with her hands, to prevent herself from screaming."How then do you explain these results, stating clearly that Jake is O-Negative?""It's possible Leo, it can

I tried to speak, but Emma's thunderous voice almost threw me off."Do I look like I'm crazy? How dare you?" Emma charged towards Lilian, but Sarah seemed strong enough to hold her back."Emma, please stop. That's my sister-in-law!" Sarah yelled, dragging Emma to the end of the living room.Ignoring all that just surfaced, Lilian grabbed my hand and drew me to the other end."You told me something about Raya's case, but I didn't grab anything from what you said.""We got the wrong girl," I told her."The main culprit is still out there.""How did it happen? I still don't get it." She asked, still confused about my explanation."Both of them are twins, and so the police arrested the wrong 'Isabelle'. I requested her release already."Lilian took a deep breath and looked around the hous

SARAHI stood anxiously by the corridor of the hospital. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. I had been pacing back and forth for what felt like hours, and my mind was consumed with worry for Lilian. Lilian had been rushed to the hospital earlier that day, and the uncertainty of her condition was torturing me.Walking restlessly back and forth, my eyes darted towards the entrance anxiously, praying for any news about Lilian. The corridor was bustling with activity; doctors and nurses were hurriedly going about their duties, but I felt completely helpless.Suddenly, as if being pulled back to reality, I felt a strong hand grab my own. Startled, I turned to see a woman standing beside me. Without a word, the woman shook my hand firmly; her grip was tight."I need you to understand something, young lady," she said, her voice strained. "If anything happens to my daughter, I won't take it lightly.I was surprised at the woman's words. Like, who the hell was s

She turned to me with a scowl and snapped, “What does it look like I’m doing? I’m just fixing the drip pipe.”I walked into the ward, crossing my arms. “Since when did you become a doctor or a nurse to know how to handle drips?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.Emily shot me a glare and sat back gently on the chair, her hand resting protectively on her pregnant belly. Caro, who had been right behind me, quickly walked past me over to Emily. She grabbed Emily’s hand and held it tightly.“What are you hiding under your sleeve?” Caro demanded.Emily yanked her hand away and snapped, “I’m not hiding anything! Get out, both of you!”Suddenly, a nurse walked into the ward. “You all need to leave,” she said firmly. “You’re disturbing the patient. He needs to rest.”Emily stood up quickly. “Fine, I’ll leave. SARAH I cried as Leo was wheeled away from me, his hand dangling off the stretcher. My hands were still sticky with his blood. "Please," I choked out to the nurse who held me back from following him."Please, I need to be with him."She gave my arm a gentle squeeze. "He's in the best hands, ma'am. We'll do our very best." But her words were drowned out by the roaring in my ears, the fear that clawed at my throat. What if their very best was not enough? The nurse left me then, and I crumpled to the floor, burying my face in my hands. Suddenly, a voice pierced through my despair. "Leo! Where's Leo?"I looked up and saw Emily. Her face was pale, her eyes wide with panic as she ran towards my direction. Her gaze fell on me and then on the bloodstains that marred my clothes. Her hand flew to her mouth to to hold herself from screaming as she stood motionless, staring at me with tears in her eyes. For a moment, I almost felt sorry for her. Almost. But then the memory of her bet

SARAHMy hands trembled as I gripped the steering wheel. The address Emma sent – a jumble of numbers and a street name I'd never heard of – was leading me further and further away from the city. Emma. Just the name sent a shiver down my spine. Not because she was scary, not exactly. But because of what she was capable of. What she threatened to do to Caro if I didn't follow her instructions to the letter. "Come alone, Sarah," her text message had read, the words burning themselves into my memory. "And don't even think about calling the police. You know what's at stake."The memory of Raya's kidnapping, years ago, flashed in my mind. The same feeling of helplessness, the same knot of fear twisting in my gut. But this time, it was my own daughter on the line. My beat-up Honda coughed its way to a stop in front of the address Emma had sent. No doubt about it, this was the place. Except "place" didn't quite cover it. It was more like a fortress. SARAH One morning, as I was getting ready for work, my daughter Caro showed up in her nightie, totally out of the blue. Normally, she'd be getting ready for school at this time. "Mum, I'll be going for a special trip today," Caro announced. "A trip?" I asked, confused. "Yes, it's an excursion for my class. Didn't I tell you about it a few weeks ago? And I'm sure they announced it in school too," Caro explained. Suddenly, it all came back to me. The principal had indeed mentioned something about the final year students going on an excursion. My head was already full with worry. She wouldn't blame for for being forgetful. "Alright, whatever," I managed to say, not bothering to inquire further about the details. I figured it was a school-related activity, so it should be safe enough to let her go. With that thought in mind, I rushed off to school as I was almost running late. I was in the middle of teaching my students when my phone rang, disrupting the class. It was the principal

Our son, Jake, came back home but he kept threatening to run away if Leo didn't come back too. No matter how much I pleaded with Jake to give his father more time, he didn't listen. It seemed like my words fell on deaf ears. I had no choice but to visit Leo at his office.I walked into his office nervously, with my heart pounding. I couldn't believe it had come to this. I had to confront him face-to-face and find a way to change his mind.In my best suit, a gift from Leo on my last birthday, I anxiously waited outside his office. Leo had been preoccupied with other people and made me wait. I wondered what to expect - the sympathetic Leo I've always known or a love-sick man? To my surprise, a cold

Jake slammed his hands on the table and glared at everyone. "I've lost my appetite!" he exclaimed, stood up and stormed out. "Me too," Caro added, and followed suit. "Don't worry about the kids, they'll come around," Mother-in-law said, clearly pleased with what Leo had said. My heart was heavy, my mind raced, and my thoughts were chaotic. Was Leo really talking about me? I couldn't even find the words to speak. "Why did you do that?" Lucas, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up. "What?" Leo pretended not to know. He looked at Emily, who was still standing beside Leo, but she seemed too clueless to understand his stare. "Leave now or you'll hate me forever!" Lucas's voice boomed, and she ran out without hesitation. "Why did you do that? I asked again!" Lucas demanded, now turning to face Leo. "He simply stated the truth," Mother-in-law defended Leo's actions. "What stupid truth?" Lucas yelled. "Even in front of the kids?" Leo walked out on us without saying a si

Carolyn called me and informed me that Jake's medication was untouched and still sealed. This meant that he hadn't been taking his medicine."Do you even wish to live? If you truly wanted to survive your condition, you wouldn't have skipped your medication!" Leo shouted at Jake, who sat silently on his grandmother's bed.I enveloped Jake with my hands, as though shielding him from his father's angry outburst."What's the point of me existing, huh?" Jake asked, now looking up at his father."Don't say that, Jake," I whispered to him."I know I'm not your real son. I don't belong here."Leo, who had been yelling all this time, suddenly calmed down, realizing that the boy was revealing his inner truth."Grandma has told me countless times that no matter how hard I try, I'll never truly be accepted into this family."Just then, Lilian who had been out f

Adding to the trouble, my mother-in-law seemed unconcerned about finding the boy.Leo grew impatient. It was the first time in years that he had the guts to stand up to his mother and express his disapproval."You're the reason that boy left this house.
