***XANDER’S POV***

I woke up to the shrill sound of my phone. Groaning, I reached for it and squinted at the screen.

I had twenty missed calls from my mom. My heart flipped, thinking something was terribly wrong. I quickly called her back. She picked up almost immediately.

“Xander!” she scolded. “Why haven’t you been answering my calls?”

“Mom, are you alright?” I asked, worried.

“Yes, I’m fine,” she replied, but then her voice dropped.

“It’s Sasha. She’s been arrested.”

“Oh,” I said, feeling relieved she was fine. “I was expecting that.”

“What do you mean?” she demanded, her voice rising. “Are you saying you knew this would happen?”

“Sasha deserves it,” I said firmly. “She deserved to rot in jail for her lies and for almost getting Adeline killed.”

“How can you say that?” Mom’s voice was full of frustration. “So all this is for Adeline?
