"Honey, wake up," a soft voice evoked Leah's deep sleep. Leah opened her heavy eyes, she sat up immediately when she found Jerome standing with a half bent over her face.
"What the hell are you doing ?!" Leah yelled in a slightly defensive tone. She pulled off the blanket and covered herself tightly. Jerome looked surprised, "I just wanted to wake you up, it's dinner time," replied Jerome in a slightly annoyed tone.
Leah stuttered, "Sorry, I'm not used to it. If you don't mind, you should start knocking on the door first before entering this room, I feel a little uncomfortable ..." Leah said frankly.
She did want to try to accept the facts of her marriage to Jerome, but everything needed a process. Leah had to digest it all slowly.
Jerome shrugged, "Well, if that's what you want. Okay, next time I'll knock on the door before I go into your room," Jerome said, his face grim. Leah felt a little guilty, "I'm sorry Jerome, I know this must be hard for you too," said her in a half-whispered voice.
Jerome smiled, "Don't worry we'll face this together, well okay then I'll wait for you at the dining table," Jerome's tone sounded softer than before. Leah nodded, she let out a loud sigh after Jerome came out of her room.
Leah lazily dragged her feet into the bathroom, she washed her face and brushed her teeth. Leah let her hair loose because she was lazy to style it. She had spent ten minutes searching for casual clothes in the closet but she couldn't find any. The contents of the wardrobe are filled with formal and semi-formal clothes, while the sleepwear row is only filled with a collection of lingeries. It wasn't Leah's taste!
After getting tired of choosing clothes, Leah finally chose a plain white dress. With a sense of uncertainty, Leah dragged her feet towards the dining room. She must immediately put together all the puzzles of her five-year life, otherwise, maybe she will live without knowing herself forever.
At the dining table, Jerome was waiting while enjoying a glass of wine. He smiled welcoming Leah, but his facial expression suddenly changed when he saw Leah's loose hair.
"Why? Is there something wrong?" asked Leah who was confused by the sudden change in Jerome's facial expression. Jerome smiled a little, "Usually you will tie your hair when you eat..." Jerome said, staring at Leah's loose hair.
"What? Ah I see," Leah held her hair in confusion. "Okay, I'll try to live my life like the current Leah," Leah said as she got up back to her room to get a hair tie.
Now that Leah's hair was tied up randomly, Jerome still stared at her as if something was wrong with her. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Leah asked uncomfortably, she put the soup spoon back on the table.
Jerome pointed at Leah's hair, "You might forget, but I am a little annoyed when I see such messy hair ties," Jerome said, from the look on his face Leah knew that Jerome was not kidding.
Jeez! Jerome the Perfectionist! Or maybe he has OCD? Leah was suspicious from the moment she walked into their room. Even the clothes, shoes, and bags in Leah's closet are sorted by color. After all, all the clothes were plain without a pattern, really not in Leah's taste!
"Sorry," said Leah, her hand moved to fix her hair. Jerome cleared his throat loudly, causing Leah to stop her move. She looked at Jerome with a face full of question marks. "Sorry Leah, but I can't see people touching hair at the dining table, you know your hair might fall on the food we are about to eat," Jerome said sounded polite and careful but was able to make Leah feel isolated.
Where exactly is Leah now? Is this the house he lived in before the accident? Is it true that Jerome was her husband? It seems impossible for a flexible person like Leah Abigail to marry a man like Jerome! Leah felt she didn't belong here...
Leah got up from her seat, she returned to the room and put her hair in a neat ponytail. After that, she returned to sit in front of Jerome without saying anything. For the time being Leah would only observe Jerome's movements, it was too early to draw any conclusions. It could be that the 2021 version of Leah is very different from the old version of her.
"Thanks for putting the ring back on your finger," said Jerome when he saw that Leah had worn back her wedding ring. Leah nodded with a faint smile, to be honest, she was starting to regret her decision. But there's no harm in trying.
"I can't find Jessica's number, do you have her number?" asked Leah, feeling the need to talk to her sister. Jerome shook his head, "The last number I called is no longer active, I'll try to find out later," replied Jerome, his voice was soft but Leah felt like there some distance between them.
"Umm my parents, where are they buried?" Leah's voice was hoarse. She felt suffocated every time she thought of her Mum and Dad.
"Their bodies could not be found, I mean all the bodies of the passengers on the plane that day, even the black box could not be found either," Jerome replied, his tone similar to someone delivering news of a natural disaster. There was not much emotion and empathy there.
Leah swallowed her soup with difficulty, she had no appetite. Now she is completely alone. There is nothing Leah could rely on, not even her husband.
"Is my relationship with Jessica all right?" asked Leah, she felt as if Jessica was intentionally moving away from her. Jerome sighed," Well, it's not exactly fine, but also not too bad, as far as I know, you guys rarely communicate..."
What? How could it be! Leah and Jessica have always been close since childhood, even after they grew up. Well at least until 2016. How could their relationship be that bad, yeah unless one of them broke it? Could it be that Leah was the one who broke it?
Jerome pulled the soup bowl in front of Leah and put down a plate of grilled salmon instead. "This is your favorite food," Jerome said with a smile as if he couldn't feel the slightest bit of anxiety that Leah felt.
"Thanks," Leah said softly, her hand moving to cut the salmon with the dinner knife. Suddenly she thought of something, "Umm do I have any best friends or close friends? Umm, maybe Suzy, Chloe, Caitlin, or Jason?" Leah tried to name her close friends one by one. There must be one of them who is still Leah's best friend.
Jerome raised his eyebrow, "I've never heard of those names you mentioned earlier," Jerome replied, frowning as if the names were strange to his ears. Leah felt like her bones were falling off one by one. For the first time in her life, she felt completely alone.
"Oh yeah, there is one friend who is quite close to you, her name is Amy. If you want I will invite her to come here as soon as possible," Jerome's words were like a spring amid thirst for Leah. Finally, there was someone else she could ask about her life besides Jerome. Someone named Adrian crossed Leah's mind, but somehow Leah felt guilty every time she thought of that man. She didn't know why...
A woman with a luxurious appearance half ran and embrace Leah warmly. "So glad to have you back Leah!" She exclaimed cheerfully. Leah smiled awkwardly, this person must be Amy, last night, Jerome had mentioned her name and said that Amy was quite close to Leah."You must have forgotten me, right? I'm Amy, we are close friends!" exclaimed Amy while grabbing Leah's hand. Leah nodded, "Yeah, last night Jerome said that too..." said Leah who didn't remember anything about Amy."Sorry, do you have a picture of us together?" asked Leah, still a little doubtful about their friendship. Judging from her appearance, Amy was not the type to be Leah's best friend at all."Of course I have, wait," Amy quickly opened her expensive bag and took out the cell phone. She searched the gallery for photos of herself and Leah on her cellphone. "Well here it is!" snapped Amy, showing a picture of them smiling at the camera. To be honest Leah looked more l
"Remember Leah, don't trust anyone easily! You have a lot of enemies there," said Jerome before dropping Leah down in the lobby of the VICAR tower. Leah smiled and nodded slowly only to make Jerome stop saying the same sentence he had repeated many times since this morning."Call me if you want to go home, I'll tell Tom to pick you up later," added Jerome, somehow Leah caught the tense expression on Jerome's face. Was he worried about Leah that much? Or he is just afraid that Leah will get new information in VICAR? Now it felt like suspecting everyone was quite normal to Leah.VICAR is a large investment company that already has a good reputation internationally. Even the funds managed by VICAR already up to $ 5000 billion. A very fantastic amount that makes VICAR the largest investment company in the world.Leah stood in the busy lobby of the VICAR tower with an uncertain feeling. People seemed to be passing by in neat suits. Some
Leah walked down the sidewalk in a slight daze. The base of her leg started to hurt because of the stilettos she was wearing. When she found a lawn chair, Leah stepped aside and sat down. She bent over to examine her leg, there was a small, bleeding wound there. Leah's frowned, usually the shoes that caused this kind of injury were the new ones.Suddenly Leah remembered that everything in her wardrobe looked like brand new stuff, she could tell by the smell of them. A question mark and big suspicion began to appear again in Leah's mind, especially since she heard the latest facts from Adrian. Could it be that Jerome was manipulating her? Before Leah had time to get up and look for a taxi, a sudden downpour of rain-drenched Leah's body entirely. Leah hugged herself, feeling completely miserable. Why did everything feel so messed up, who should she believe?"I told you not to trust anyone, lots of people are happy to mess up your mind
"You already have an interview call?" asked Jerome with an investigating gaze. Leah showed an email on her cellphone, she does have an interview scheduled with a PR agency this afternoon."Okay then, Tom will take you there," Jerome said briefly. "I'm leaving with Amy," said Leah, which was quite a shock to Jerome. Yeah, he must have been surprised because Jerome knew, Leah wasn't that close to Amy."Amy?" Jerome asked in surprise. Leah nodded, "Yup! I want to have a spa treatment with Amy right after my interview!" Leah replied cheerfully, trying to look as natural as possible. Jerome shrugged his shoulders, "That's good! I'm glad you got close to Amy again," Jerome said with a little smile. Leah just grimaced. After Jerome left for work, Amy soon picked her up. "Leah, were you serious about our conversation last night?" asked Amy with a look of hope. Leah nodded, "All you have to do is lie to Jerome and say that we spend a lot of time together,"
"Why did you bring me here?" Leah asked suspiciously, by then they had arrived at Adrian's apartment. Adrian took a deep breath, he stared at Leah for a long time, making Leah feel a little embarrassed."Adrian! Answer my question!" Leah demanded, her hand tightly gripping the cellphone in her hand. "This is your place, we lived together here for more than a year," answered Adrian in a choked voice.Leah was dumbfounded, her face completely pale, she looked like someone who's looking at a ghost. "You are lying!" Leah exclaimed, shaking her head. How could Leah end up live with Adrian?Adrian looked down, arranging the right words so that Leah wouldn't be too shocked. "After your relationship with Jerome finished, you had time to live with your sister Jessica. Because our relationship was getting better and better, you finally decided to move here," said Adrian cautiously.Hearing the mention of Jessica's name, Leah became even more surprised.
"You didn't go to the interview, didn't you?" Jerome grumbled suddenly as they were enjoying their dinner. Leah almost choked on the beef stroganoff she was chewing, but she quickly got the hang of it."I suddenly changed my mind, I think I just want to start my own business," said Leah thinking tactically. How careless was Leah, she should have known that Jerome might find out everything she was doing.Jerome was quite surprised by Leah's answer, he thought Leah was going to dodge it or something. "So yesterday you were really with Amy all day?" Jerome asked, her eyes seemingly penetrating Leah's head, trying his best to find out what Leah was up to.Leah nodded with a smile, "Amy turns out to be very kind and fun, it does make sense that I was ever close to her," said Leah making it up. Right now she just had to look naive and innocent so that Jerome wouldn't suspect her.Jerome's lips pulled sideways into a stiff smile. "Really? Then you ca
Leah woke up to find Jerome holding his head in silence. "Are you awake?" said Leah in a slightly hoarse voice. "What happened exactly last night?" asked Jerome with a confused face.Leah chuckled, straightening her body. "We were making out but you suddenly fell asleep," Leah replied, holding the blanket that covered her naked body. She made her face looked like a disappointed person."Really? Why could I be sleepy all of a sudden? It has never happened to me before..." Jerome said, still suspicious of his memory last night. Leah shrugged, "I don't know, maybe you're tired," Leah murmured, her eyes watching the expression on Jerome's face.Jerome was looked at Leah's eyes for quite a long time and finally, he nodded and looked away, "Yeah, maybe I was really tired last night," muttered Jerome doubtfully. Leah smiled and breathed a sigh of relief."Then..." Jerome turned his head to look at Leah again, his h
Adrian stretched out his hand, gripping Leah's hand tightly. "Leah, can you stop investigating everything? Jerome is not an ordinary person, he's sick! I won't be able to see you get hurt for a second time!" Adrian's voice was trembling.Leah shook her head and then pulled her hand from Adrian's. "I won't stop until I can find where Jessica is. And even if Jerome was the cause of my accident, I'll make sure he's responsible for it..." Leah said, her face hardened.Adrian closed his eyes, finding it difficult to change Leah's mind. "Then involve me! Don't do it all yourself! You have done it all yourself and failed! Please learn from your past!" Adrian's voice sounded so desperate, he was really worried about Leah's safety.Leah didn't flinch, she saw the sincerity on Adrian's face. But honestly l Leah felt bad taking advantage of Adrian's feelings for her. Because Leah doesn't know whether the memory of her love for Adrian will come back or not.
Right before her eyes, Suzy, Luke, Donna, Mandy, Henry, Esmee, Vivian, Charlie, Mia, Granny, Kate, and even all the people from the publishing company came to surprised her."Oh my God, you guys are the best!" whispered Leah, teary."Owwww, come here!" Vivian moved forward to hug her. She turned her gaze to Adrian who grinned widely to see her wife cried happily.*****"So he won?!" yelled Mia when Leah told her the story about that rock, paper, scissors game that she and Adrian played at the Dr. Philips clinic. Leah nodded, "Yeah, so, I have to wait till the delivery to know the gender," said Leah lightly. Mia chuckled.Suddenly their gaze bumped into Suzy and Luke who were looked very romantic, Leah felt bad for Mia, but she knew Luke would never like Mia. Luke hated rich people."How do you feel about that guy right there?" asked Leah, moved her chin to where Luke was standing. Mia snorted, "At first I'm in pain, but now
Loud applause greeted Leah as she walked into the studio. She sat across the host in her beautiful black dress. She felt a little bit nervous, but she could handle the situation. The host lifted her hand, made the audience silent. "Leah Parker, first, I would like to thank you personally because you dare to write your story to the world through your novel, I read it by the way, and it's just very mind-blowing!" said the host which was a beautiful middle-aged woman named Katherine. Leah smiled, she put her hand on her chest and mumbled, "Thank you, Kate," in a whisper."So as we know this book is a novel which written base on a true story of the author herself, my question is, how do you manage to stay alive after all those horrible things your ex-husband did to you? I mean, even before this novel launched everyone in the U.S. might already hear the news about your experience, we know how miserable your life was..." asked the host, Leah could hear empa
"Leah, I'll explain everything..."Suddenly, Adrian took Leah's wrist and bring her to their bedroom. As the door shut, the sounds of people talking and laughing were gone. Leah took her hand off Adrian and moved quickly to the giant glass that the curtain was wide open. She could see the hustle and bustle of Manhattan below her."What do you want to know?" asked Adrian, somehow Leah could hear the fatigue in his tone that made her offended. She turned her body, "You make it sounds like I'm the one who brought the problem here!"Adrian rubbed his face, he exhaled violently, "Leah, come on! Please, don't make it difficult for me, the only reason I hid that fact was that I don't want you to be reacting this way! You'll be too sensitive and jealous without a reason," he said. Leah snorted, "So now it's officially my fault? Perfect! I know exactly that the past is past! But I demanded your honesty! Talking about jealousy, even you acted that way every time you saw
"I'm sure it's all just a misunderstanding, Leah you're currently married, you have to face all problems more wisely," said Suzy softly. Leah sighed, "Yeah you're right, I don't know lately I've been very sensitive, maybe because of my pregnancy hormones," said Leah, staring at her cellphone which was filled with calls from Adrian."You have to answer Adrian's call, he must be really worried about you," Suzy moved her chin towards Leah's cellphone which was still vibrating. Leah bit her lip, Suzy was right she is a wife, she should be more mature."I'll take this," Leah got up from the sofa, walking towards the tiny balcony that Suzy had beautifully arranged."Leah? Where are you? Are you okay, listen! I'm sorry, okay? I'll explain everything! Tell me where you are?"Hearing Adrian's worried voice made Leah burst into tears. For almost two minutes she just kept crying without saying anything. On the other side, Adrian apologized many times,
"Leah, what are you doing here?" asked Adrian coldly. Leah shrugged, "Just having lunch and accidentally bumped into Luke," Leah replied casually. She picked up the meat with chopsticks and ate it casually. As if she didn't care about Adrian and the oriental woman there."Didn't you say you weren't going anywhere this morning?" asked Adrian, still frowning in annoyance to see Leah with Luke.Leah shrugged,"Maybe Donna forgot to tell you, but earlier I came to your office to bring lunch, but it seems that you are busy with this woman, so I decided to eat here alone because the baby in my stomach is hungry," Leah babbled without looking at Adrian.Adrian looks surprised."You were at the office? Why didn't you tell me? Donna was not at her desk, I think she was having lunch so she forgot to tell me, Ummm Leah this is Lily, umm my client," Adrian introduced Leah to the oriental woman who was next to Leah.Leah looked at the orienta
Leah looked at Donna suspiciously,"Is there something you're hiding from me?" asked Leah narrowing her eyes. Donna shook her head, "What am I going to hide from you?" Donna said with a small laugh. Leah shrugged, "I don't know, maybe Adrian is having an affair with another woman or something," she mumbled as she tiptoed, trying to peek into Adrian's study, but all she could see was just a handbag.Donna laughed, "Adrian? Cheating on you? That's as impossible as a human mission to Mars!" Donna joked, but she quickly grabbed Leah's hand, "Let's go to the Coffee shop, this meeting really can't be interrupted," she said quickly. Leah still occasionally glanced around the room, wondering."So who is he meeting with?" Leah asked when she and Donna were in the elevator. Donna had a nervous look on her face. "Umm with an important client," Donna answered, which didn't help at all to allay Leah's suspicions.Leah suddenly remembered the woman's To
Leah entered the Penthouse, she tried to think of something else, but her mind kept going back to Adrian and the oriental woman at the Chinese restaurant earlier. Should she just call Adrian so she doesn't feel suspicious? Finally, Leah dialed Adrian's number, which had just been picked up after the fourth ring."Yes baby?" said Adrian straightforwardly."What time are you coming home?" Leah asked carefully."Probably in two hours, what's wrong honey?" he asked hastily. Leah bit her lip, looking for an excuse."Leah?""Umm I'm in the mood for Chinese food, I didn't have time to buy it when I went out," Leah finally found an excuse to provoke Adrian, to tell the truth."Okay! I'll buy it for you, I'll hang up the phone, okay, my client has come, love you!" chirped Adrian, not long after the call ended.Leah closed her eyes, dispelling the suspicion that had filled her head. Surely Adrian will tell her later, she didn't need to b
"So who's that Lily from Shanghai?" teased Leah after Adrian shut her phone. Adrian laughed, "She was just a friend I met a long time ago, she said she read the news about my marriage, and congratulate me that's all," said Adrian casually. "Ohh I see," replied her tried not to sound jealous."So, we're going to stay in the room at 65 floors until our house is ready to use, you don't mind, right?" asked Adrian, putting back his suits on his body. Leah shrugged, "I can sleep anywhere as long as it's not a pigsty," joked Leah made Adrian chuckled.*****They walked hand in hand inside the store, arguing about which sofa was better. They finished shopping after 5 hours and repeated that same activity in the whole week. Adrian intentionally accompanied Leah until their house was ready. He didn't want Leah to be too tired handling their new house.Today they had an appointment to meet Dr. Phillips, the obstetrician from Granny's
"Hi, Baby, bonjour! How do you feel?" Adrian touched Leah's cheek softly. Leah opened her eyes, she smiled, "I'm feeling better..." she answered turned her face to Adrian who sighed a sigh of relief. Last night was pretty tense and Adrian was so worried about it. But her mom told her that Leah had that pregnancy hormones thing which involved in all her moods, so Vivian guessed that Leah would get better in the morning and her guessing was right."Breakfast!" Adrian pulled the trolley closer to the bed. Leah frowned, "You don't have to do this, I can walk myself to the dining room," she said. Adrian grinned, "I wanted to serve you like this, at least once every week, you don't mind right?" teased Adrian touching Leah's chin. "Wow, I'm the luckiest woman on the planet!" exclaimed Leah, she grabbed the orange juice and sipped it slowly."So, when will we go back to NYC?" asked Leah, her eyes scanning all the food on the trolley and decided to pick a warm crois
