Adrian Parker

"Remember Leah, don't trust anyone easily! You have a lot of enemies there," said Jerome before dropping Leah down in the lobby of the VICAR tower. Leah smiled and nodded slowly only to make Jerome stop saying the same sentence he had repeated many times since this morning.

"Call me if you want to go home, I'll tell Tom to pick you up later," added Jerome, somehow Leah caught the tense expression on Jerome's face. Was he worried about Leah that much? Or he is just afraid that Leah will get new information in VICAR? Now it felt like suspecting everyone was quite normal to Leah.

VICAR is a large investment company that already has a good reputation internationally. Even the funds managed by VICAR already up to $ 5000 billion. A very fantastic amount that makes VICAR the largest investment company in the world.

Leah stood in the busy lobby of the VICAR tower with an uncertain feeling. People seemed to be passing by in neat suits. Some of them seemed to be queuing at the identity exchange machine with visitor cards. Leah joined the queue with the people, judging by the business card Amy gave, Leah's office seemed to be on the 76th floor.

Leah entered her ID into the machine and chose which floor she was going to go to. After that, she brought her face closer to the screen which automatically took a picture of it. Shortly thereafter an access visitor card appeared from the small hole of the machine. Leah picked it up quickly and headed for the elevator.

Leah's image was reflected in the giant mirror surrounding the elevator. She looks beautiful and elegant in a khaki suit and matching stilettos. She let her long hair loose with a few curls at the bottom.

The elevator clinked, Leah stepped outside with a heart that was beating deafeningly. From a distance, she could see a glass door with the Marketing Communications Department inscription engraved in expensive-looking silver letters.

The two receptionists whispered to each other with shocked expressions when they saw Leah emerge from behind the glass door. Leah was pretty sure if they made sure to recognize Leah, well, she was only in a coma for two months instead of two years or centuries.

"Hello," Leah said awkwardly. The receptionist with a nameplate that read Amber glared in surprise when she realized that the person she had been observing was Leah Abigail, the former Director!

"Miss Leah Abigail?" hissed Amber as she turned quickly to the co-worker next to her who was just as surprised as her. Leah smiled with a confused face, "Yeah, it's me ..." Leah said finally.

"So glad to have you back miss, you will go back to work, right?" asked Amber, who thought Leah was going back to work because what she knew was, that Leah was still in an unpaid leave position.

Leah shook her head quickly, "No I'm not, I just need to see my secretary..." Leah replied bluntly. To be honest, she didn't even remember who her secretary was, Leah just randomly replied.

"You mean Suzy?" asked Amber. Leah was a little surprised because she remembered her best friend Suzy. Could they be the same person? But it seems impossible.

Leah just nodded, she assumed that her secretary was named Suzy. Amber frowned, "You don't know? But Suzy was fired just one week after your accident, we all don't know the details," whispered Amber, a little surprised because Leah did not know the incident that was quite shocking to their department.

Leah bit her lip, feeling completely stuck. She was just about to ask Amber to meet her with anyone who had worked with her before when suddenly someone pulled her hand away from the reception desk.

"Who are you! Get your hand out of mine!" Leah shrieked as she tried to let go of the man's grip. They were outside the glass door now, the man took his hand away from Leah. "You?!" exclaimed Leah, surprised to find Adrian, a man she had met at the hospital, standing in front of her in a dark blue work suit that looked so good for him.

"What are you doing here?" asked Adrian in a flat tone. Leah looked up, "None of your business!" Leah said curtly. Adrian was silent as if he was thinking, then he looked closely at Leah's face, "Do you remember everything?" asked Adrian curiously.

Leah frowned, "Who the hell are you ?!" Leah snapped, her eyes narrowing at Adrian's handsome face, trying to dig into her memory. Nothing, no memories came out.

Adrian's face looked surprised, he thought Leah's memory had returned. "You don't remember anything?" asked Adrian, still curious. Leah let out a loud sigh, "You think I'm faking it?!" Her eyes glared at Adrian with a huff.

Adrian stared at Leah, his eyes red with tears, but he quickly looked away. "Follow me!" said Adrian, pressing the elevator button. Leah did not flinch where she stood. "Why should I follow you?" Leah asked curtly.

Adrian sighed, "I'll help you," said Adrian softly. Leah frowned, "Can you be trusted?" said Leah, who did have a crisis of trust in almost everyone she met.

"You're amnesiac Leah, not stupid, you can filter out which information makes sense and which doesn't," said Adrian as usual in the cold and curt tone that seemed to have become his trademark.

'That's right ...' Leah muttered to herself, without realizing that her feet followed Adrian's footsteps into the elevator that took them to the ground floor.

"Where are we going?" asked Leah, who was still following Adrian to the VVIP parking area. "My office," said Adrian briefly. Leah didn't answer, her legs ached a little because of the stilettos she was wearing.

"Get in," Adrian opened the car door for Leah. Leah got into Adrian's car with a little hesitation. Soon Adrian was at his side. Adrian started the engine with an unpredictable facial expression.

Leah's eyes were fixed on the necklace hanging in the rearview mirror. Silver necklace with water drop pendant. The form that Leah had always liked. She couldn't help but ask. "You like the shape of a water drop like that?" Leah asked, pointing at the hanging necklace.

Adrian turned his head, stared at Leah in silence, then he nodded slowly. Leah smiled, her hand touched the necklace.

Adrian's car turns into a forty-story office building, which is where Parker & Partners Law Firm is located.

The car stopped at the lobby, Adrian opened the car door for Leah, then threw the car keys at a valet and walked into the building holding Leah's hand.

Leah took her hand away from Adrian, she was confused about why she wanted to follow Adrian. Adrian glanced at Leah for a moment then continued his steps again.

A few moments later they arrived at an office with a silver plaque that read Parker & Partners. With a little hesitation, Leah followed Adrian into it.

"Gosh! Leah? It's you, right ?!" a black woman covered her mouth when she saw Leah. Leah just stared at the woman with a confused face, then she turned to look at Adrian, hoping Adrian would say something.

Adrian approaches the woman and then said something to her, Leah couldn't hear what Adrian was saying. But the woman's expression looked shocked, she gazed as she closed her mouth.

"Oh dear, it's me Donna!" the woman who turned out to be Donna walked over to Leah. Her eyes were glistening, "Whatever it is, I'm ready to help you," Donna said, her tone sounds sincere.

Leah smiled awkwardly, "Do we know each other?" Leah asked carefully. Donna cried, "Oh God, I never thought something like this would happen to you, Leah! Of course, we do, we're best friends! I'll never forget what you did for Scott and me!" Donna replied emotionally.

Leah frowned, "Scott?" asked Leah. Donna nodded her head several times, "Yes, my little Scott!" exclaimed Donna. Adrian looked at Donna while shaking his head, asking Donna to stop.

"Save it for later, Donna," admonished Adrian, not wanting Leah to be confused because the story was not very relevant to what she wanted to know. Leah chose not to comment because she felt too confused right now.

"Get in," said Adrian as he opened his office door for Leah. Leah hesitantly stepped inside. The room looks spacious with glass walls around it. Leah stood at the edge of the glass window, staring at the heavy New York traffic below her.

Adrian opened the refrigerator to get a bottle of brown sugar almond milk and gave it to Leah. Leah frowned, not feeling like drinking almond milk but feeling bad about refusing. Thirsty, Leah decided to open the bottle of milk and drank it, which turned out to be delicious! Leah liked it right away.

"Ask what you want to ask, start with basic questions, I will answer as best I can," said Adrian, his eyes stared at Leah deeply.

Leah cleared her throat softly. To be honest,  Leah had been compiling a lot of questions in her head.

"Well okay, first, why were you suddenly appeared in VICAR?" Leah asked with a sharp gaze. She presumed that Adrian might have followed her.

"VICAR is the main client of my Law Firm. I often stop by for meetings," replied Adrian quickly, concisely, and clearly. A light flashed in Leah's head suddenly, "So we know each other because of that? Because I'm the Marketing Director and you're the Attorney representing VICAR?" Leah asked, concluding.

Adrian nodded, "More or less," he replied diplomatically. Leah's lips say 'oh' softly, it turns out that VICAR is the beginning of everything.

"How well do you know me?" Leah asked curiously. 

Adrian was silent for a moment, for some reason Leah felt Adrian's gaze turning warm. "Far enough, at least to answer all your questions," answered Adrian, his voice choked up a little.

Something was pounding on Leah's left chest. Oh my God! Could it be that Leah has a special relationship with Adrian? Suddenly, Leah's stomach cramped.

Leah took another sip of almond milk, trying to pull herself together.

"Do we have a special relationship? I mean other than as co-workers?" Leah looked up at Adrian.

Adrian took a deep breath, then nodded, "We were" answered Adrian, his voice sounded a little hoarse.

Leah's stomach felt sinking. Someone like Leah could cheat on her husband?!

"We were? do you mean our relationship is over?!" Leah asked, trying not to lose control. Remember Leah you can filter out which information is correct and which is not. For now, just listen.

Adrian rubbed his face hard, his chest felt a little tight. Adrian quickly loosened his tie and turned his head to look at the brown eyes who were staring at him with no idea of whatever was going on in her life.

"The day the accident happened, you sent this to me," Adrian opened his cell phone, looked for something, and then handed it to Leah. Leah accepted it with a slightly trembling hand.

[Dear Ad, I've been wanting to say this to you for a long time, but I've always felt bad. Our relationship has to end here Ad. Everything is different now, I don't have the same feelings in my heart for you. Please don't ask why, you're just the wrong guy at the right time, I met Jerome and I don't think I can separate from him again. I'm so sorry Ad]

Leah's hands were shaking violently, she almost dropped Adrian's cellphone. "You okay?" asked Adrian with a worried face. Leah nodded, gesturing Adrian not to touch her.

"This is not what you imagine Leah, "said Adrian, staring at the thick carpet underneath. "What do you mean?" asked Leah who understood the direction of Adrian's conversation but did not understand why Adrian said that. It was clear that they were cheating on Jerome.

"The relationship between you and Jerome has ended since the first three months of your marriage," said Adrian, his gaze softening. Leah frowned, then closed her eyes tightly. That fact still didn't change anything, what Leah was doing was utterly wrong! She has always hated disloyalty from a long time ago.

"We're not cheating behind Jerome's back Leah, you and Jerome are over!" said Adrian as if he could read the contents of Leah's head.

Leah stared at the wedding ring on her ring finger, feeling totally at a loss for what to trust.

"But legally I'm Jerome's wife," Leah said in a choked voice.

Adrian rubbed his face, he felt like he wanted to explode and tell Leah all at once, but he was afraid that Leah would not be able to accept it. Leah's brain still needs adjustments.

"Jerome arranged everything Leah, your divorce process has stalled! You filed for divorce exactly six months after your marriage and even until the accident happened everything was still not resolved," explained Adrian patiently.

Leah looked away, looking up at the cloudy sky. All Leah needed was proof, she would be able to find it. Suddenly Leah remembered the wedding ring she found under the bed, was it possible that she had put it there?

"I have to go," said Leah, suddenly feeling very tight. Her chest hurt. "I'll take you," Adrian immediately got up from his seat. Leah shook her head, "I need some time alone, I can't trust anyone before I find the evidence," Leah said in a trembling voice.

Adrian rubbed his face, his eyes slightly watery. "All the evidence is on your cell phone, Leah! You can read all the messages in there!" Adrian's voice sounded a little desperate. Leah did not expect someone as cold as Adrian to look pathetic like that. Did Adrian truly love her?

"I lost my cell phone," said Leah, who was just a stone's throw away from the exit. Adrian was silent, he knew it must be Jerome's doing. "Don't act rashly Leah, Jerome is not as good as you think. He's a monster!" said Adrian with a worried tone. Leah didn't react.

"Move to another place, that house is not safe for you, I can help to provide the accommodation," said Adrian as he approached Leah. "I can handle this myself!" Leah exclaimed with one hand towards Adrian, asking Adrian to stop his steps. Leah walked out of Adrian's room, her face trembling, holding back tears, feeling very tired both physically and mentally.

"Leah? You okay darling?" Donna, who was busy with the copier machine, looked at Leah in confusion. Leah just walked quickly without answering Donna's questions, everything's too shocking for her. It feels enough for today.
