Later that afternoon, while I was lazing around in my room, I heard some commotion outside. I could hear some muffled voices, and I realized that one of them belonged to Lawrence’s and it was slowly rising. Wondering what it could have been about, I stepped out. As I walked into the living room, I realized that he was speaking to some on the other side of the door.

In fact, it looked like he was blocking someone from entering.

“Excuse me!” The voice said, “You better move aside right freaking now if you wish to keep your job. You don’t know who you are talking to.”

As soon as I recognised that unforgettable voice, my eyes widened. Wow. What was happening?

“That’s precisely what I’m worried ab

Becky's POV“Have you heard the news?” Calvin’s father, Peter said as he folded the newspaper. Tossing it on the sofa, he came to join us at the breakfast table.Calvin looked up in confusion. He had no idea of what he was talking about. But I did. And I couldn't wait to let this conversation unfold. “What?” He said.“News about Cassie.” Peter said, “She was attacked yesterday.”“Attacked?” Calvin exclaimed, dropping his spoon on his plate. “By who?”Peter raised his brows at him, giving him a sly smirk, as though he caught the culprit. “That’s what I’m wondering. Do you have anything to say?”“Me? Why would I…” Calvin’s eyes widened in realization, “You can’t possibly think I was the one behind it?”“Why not? It fits the plot.”

Cassie's POV “Ahhhh!!!!” I screamed in horror. I got up and sat straight at once. I frantically looked around, searching for my perpetrator. But he was nowhere to be seen. I then realized that I was not in the middle of nowhere. I was in my bedroom. I could feel sweat dripping from my face, and my breath becoming erratic. It was yet another nightmare. It was my third time today. In every dream, the same scene repeated in my head. I was taken to a dark lane and was attacked continuously. Before it could get any worse or before Peter could come to my rescue, I would wake up from sleep, utterly drenched with sweat and gasping for breath.Right then, the door to my room opened. Enzo walked in. “Cassie!” He said as he sat on my bed, “What happened?” “I’m sorry, it was nothing.” I said, “Another nightmare.” “Another?” He asked, surprised. “This is getting out of control. You need to see a doctor. They might help you.” “No,” I said, “I don’t want to start therapy again. I just need t

It took about an hour and a half to get done with the paperwork. The HR manager was a kind woman who seemed to have prepared a speech to talk me into accepting this job, but I didn’t need any convincing. Any qualms I had about working here right about vanished when I realized that it was Enzo who owned it. Nothing could be fishy about this place when the leader was so capable and trustworthy. However, I did take my sweet time reading all the documents before putting my sign on it. After all, it was always better to be safe and sensible about these things. After all, I checked with Lawrence if I could meet Enzo, but sadly, he was still in a meeting and had asked us to proceed for lunch without him.“We’ll go to your office next.” He said.“My office?” I asked. “I got an office room?”He winced, “My bad. I meant the tech department. Nobody there has an office room yet.”

“I’m guessing the meeting went well?” He asked, his features finally softening. He pulled the seat toward himself and took a seat on it, gesturing to me to do the same.“Yes.” I said, sitting across from him “It was a no-brainer actually. The moment I realized you were my employer, it wasn’t much of a debate. I had to sign the document.”He raised his brows, “So you’ve learned.”“It’s hard not to. Your name is everywhere.”He chuckled, “I thought you’d pick up sooner.”“My bad, I can be very dense sometimes.”Truly, I couldn’t believe I didn’t know this all these days. The fact that I didn’t even bother to ask my company’s name before showing up here for an interview says a lot about how my brain goes into an off mode when I’m around Enzo. He takes care of everythi

As the evening rolled, I cleaned the last bit of dust off the counter and threw the tissue away. As my eyes wandered around the apartment, I couldn’t help but grin in satisfaction. Ever since Enzo permitted me to redo his apartment yesterday, I have been on the task. I made all the purchases yesterday and they were readily delivered today. I took a bit of Kelly and Lawrence’s help to set the entire thing up, of course, and I was very proud of what we have achieved.Enzo had no idea that everything would be ready by tonight when he came home from work. I also ordered his favourite Chinese food for dinner, making it a complete evening packed full of surprises.“I must say you’ve outdone yourself,” Lawrence said as he walked from the living room. “It looks perfect, and I’m sure it's within Enzo’s preference. You have great taste.”“Thank you, and I wouldn’t have done it without you.

I recoiled backwards, growing acutely aware of how hard my heart was thumping against my ribs. The look on his face devastated me. I suddenly worried, what if it was all a waste? What if he didn’t like it? Oh, my God. What would I do then? The worst part was that I couldn’t read his expression well. Was he thinking I overspent? Was he regretting giving me the chance to redo his apartment? Shit! He gave me one job, one freaking job, and I ruined it! This was the least I could have done for him, and somehow I ruined that too. “Do you not like it?” I asked in a low voice, embracing myself for his response. “Like it?” He scoffed in astonishment, “Cassie! This is amazing! I love it!” The biggest sigh of relief rushed out of my lungs, “Oh, my God. Really?”“Yes!” He said, throwing his hands up in the air as he gestured around, “I can’t believe you did all of this by yourself, in under two days. Like, what are you made of? How did you pull this off?” I shook my head, “You scared me ther

When I heard those words, it felt like my heart sank. I didn't even notice when the file slipped from my hands and fell to the floor. I stared at Enzo in shock, as everything around me suddenly felt real again. The comfortable world I had built for myself was gone.I quickly knelt down to pick up the papers. After gathering them, I put them back in the folder and stood up. Placing it on the counter, I said, “When?” “The day before yesterday, when you came to the office.” He said, “I… I received them just a minute before you walked in, but you were so excited and happy about your new job. I didn’t have the heart to ruin your happiness. I’m really sorry. I thought it was for the better if I read it first before I handed it over to you along with the changes I’d like to make in the document.” “Oh, that’s fine.” I said, “So you think it was... Fair? The document.” “It was better than what I expected.” He said, “But there are still some changes that I’d like to suggest. I’ve been in tou

Although it had not been that long since we last met, it felt like ages ago that the episode at his office unfolded. The man that I saw that day was different from the man that was standing before me now. He was confident yet receptive, angry but willing to listen, but today, he was none of those things. Today, he was cold. He had an invisible wall around himself beyond which nobody had any access. When I first walked into the room with Enzo, Calvin was already present there with his lawyer. I gave him a small nod of acknowledgement, but his face remained stoic. He revealed no feelings whatsoever, and that surprised me. I didn't understand what was in his head, but I decided to not pay much thought to it and just let the meeting begin. As both of our lawyers spoke to each other, I watched him closely and realized how well he was avoiding me. He wouldn’t once look into my eyes. It almost felt like he was punishing me for something, as though he had no remorse over

Cassie’s POVI did not expect that I would be seeing Enzo so soon.In fact, I was barely making peace with the fact that he was out of my life forever. So seeing him in a hospital right now ought to feel better, but it wasn’t. He looked pale, as though life was sucked out of him.I was sleeping on the bed when he walked into the room. He was the same man who loved me, but so much changed in the past few weeks that I felt like I no longer knew him.I wondered if he even wanted to be here.“Hi, Enzo.” I said, my voice broken. “Come on, in.”He closed the door

She ran her eyes over the crowd, and as I got up, she realized that she was looking for me.“Mr De Luca?” She said as she approached me. The doctor seemed to be in her forties

Ever since Cassie moved out my house, Liza would not let me take a breather. She was around me the entire time, begging me to take her back. She was so persistent that even the paps have noticed it and are writing long columns in the news that we might be together.“No, tell her I’m not free.”“Mr Deluca, she will not listen to me. Her eyes widened in surprise as she looked at me. She was trapped now. “Hello, mom.” I said with bitterness, “I hope you’ve been well.” “What are you doing here?” She asked, her tone stern. “Why, I’m just here to talk to you regarding our arrangement. You’ve been ignoring me for the past few weeks, conveniently forgetting to fulfill your end of the bargain.”She rolled her eyes at me, “That was for a reason.” “Oh, yes? What reason could you have for keeping me from meeting dad?” I said, “I did everything you told me. I broke Enzo’s heart and left him. I even left my job and started a new life. I have done everything you asked me to do.” “You’re finally doing something good,” She said, “Now don’t expect any rewards for that.” My mouth fell open in surprise. “Wow, you have some nerve saying that.” I said, “I only did what I had to do because I wanted to see dad, not because it was the right thing. So you better be grateful for that and let me know when you will let me see dad. You

Two months laterI ran my eyes over my studio, a relieved smile playing over my lips. After weeks of hard work, my art studio was launched and slowly picking up. For now, there were just two people running it, me and my friend, Kelly. But I was sure that we would slowly expand. “Hey, Kelly.” I said, “Any appointments for me?” She quickly folded the newspapers that she was reading and hid it under the desk. Giving me a smile, she said, “No. You’re free today.” “Wow, first time in ages right?” I said, “Why don’t you see the guests who have just arrived? I’ll sit at the reception.” “Sure. You got it. Shall I get you some coffee to kick start the day?” “No, thanks. I just had it.”As soon as Kelly was out of my sight, I carefully pulled the newspaper. The headlines on the front page caught my attention. ‘The city’s most eligible bachelor spotted with his girlfriend. Are things heating up?’ It wasn't the text but the picture below it that made my heart skip a beat. I closely watched

“What the hell, Mom.” I said, “You cannot give me an ultimatum like that.”“Well, call it what you want, dear. I don’t care.” She said, “All I know is that you need to make a choice. Are you going to choose Enzo or are you going to choose your father?”Suddenly, angry tears brimmed in my eyes. I could not help but hate my mother for saying those words. For forcing me to choose between two people I cared immensely about.“You’re a cruel woman.” I said, “No mother would do this to her child.”“That’s true.” She said, “That’s why I’m doing this to you. “Here you go.” Mr Lee handed me a cup of black coffee as per my wish.I gave him a grateful smile. Behind him, the morning sun was glaring into my eyes but it felt rather relieving to be basking in its rays.“You look tired, Miss Harper.” Mr Lee said, “Rough night?”Right then, Enzo placed his breakfast tray beside mine on the table and took a seat. My face reddened, and I meekly nodded.“I guess I’m just tired. Can’t wait to go back home.”“When is your flight?”“In four hours.”
