Cassie’s POV The next morning, I awoke early, despite tossing and turning in my bed for hours together, chasing sleep. By the time I had stepped out of my room, it was past 8 am and Enzo was nowhere to be found. He has already gone to work, I presumed. I had decided to meet Kelly for lunch later today, so until then, I essentially had the entire house for myself. Fixing myself a quick cup of coffee, I settled down by the kitchen counter and lazily ran my eyes over the empty space of the house. The one thing that stood about the house was how bland it was, how lifeless and empty it seemed. It almost felt criminal that Enzo was wasting the enormous potential this house had. This beautiful space needed some upgrading for sure, but it wasn’t my call to make. I mean, I would be living here for a little while, until I got my own space, so it would be terribly rude of me to suggest Enzo try to get some furniture in here. He looks like he can afford it. If it was his busy lifestyle that
The ring of a bell chimed in the air. Before I could get up from the pool of clothes I submerged myself in, Kelly got up from her seat and walked out of the room to get to the door. I could faintly hear her conversation and made out that our lunch was delivered. Pushing all the stuff away from my lap, I got up and headed out the door. After the unfortunate phone call with Calvin, I realized that I was in no mood to head out for lunch. Moreover, I needed her company immediately, so I rang up Kelly and asked her to come home instead. Since she wanted to help me unpack my things, we got to it while I ranted to her till my heart was content. We settled down by the kitchen counter to eat our lunch which was some alfredo chicken pasta. As I took the first bite, Kelly grimaced, “Everyday is a new surprise to me.” “What?” I asked, not sure what she was referring to. Did she not like the food?“About Calvin.” She clarified to my relief. “I mean, why is he being such a hypocrite? Has he alw
As the elevator took me up the floors, I looked out of the transparent glass. The view of the office didn’t change a bit, it was just like how I saw it the last time, which was almost four months ago. I had come for a small party Calvin threw for his employees, and as his wife, I had to make an appearance. I couldn’t help but remember that night with some bitterness and some fondness. Although Calvin wasn’t the most affectionate husband, he was surprisingly nice to me that entire evening. He took special interest in introducing me to everyone, including his interns and other new employees. For the first time in my life, it felt like he was finally making peace with the fact that I was his wife. It felt as though he didn’t mind my presence beside him or in his life, and that it ignited a small hope within me. It made me wonder if things would finally go back to being normal, if we would finally become a couple that I had always dreamt of. However, that dream of mine was short-lived,
“Cassie, stop!” Calvin’s angry voice came from behind me, but I did not pay any heed to it. Determined to get out of there as soon as possible, I kept walking. I felt a grip on my elbow then, and before I could protest, I was being dragged into a room to my left. As the door shut behind, Calvin pinned me to it and looked down at me menacingly. “Calvin!” I shrieked, trying to get out of his hold, “Let go of me.” “How dare you do this?” He said, tightening his grip on my arms. I looked up at him in astonishment. Was he seriously asking me this question? Is he truly that daft that he thought I would remain a loyal wife to him after everything he’s put me through? As I looked into his eyes in annoyance, I was surprised to find hurt in them. Not anger, but hurt. He looked at me as though I was betraying him, as though I was stabbing him in the back. Either I had to be delusional or he was good at manipulating me, only that would explain why he was looking at me like that.“It’s because
Calvin’s POV The car screeched to a halt in front of my mansion, pulling me out of my thoughts. As I got out, a terrible headache hit, making me feel dizzy for a moment. I noticed my driver looking at me, ready to help, but I raised my hand to signal I didn’t need it. The day’s events were catching up to me, but it wasn’t new. I had survived many days like this before, and this one would be no different. But how could Cassie say those hurtful words? How dare she divest? She's truly an evil woman.Dragging my feet toward my house, I opened the door and felt grateful for the silence that was coming from within. Good, I was in no mood to interact with my parents, especially my father after the spectacular flop show at the office. He was sure to taunt me for my shortcomings, giving me his classic ‘I told you so’. He would not understand even if I tried to justify that there was nothing I could have done. I did back off when he asked me to, and yet, Cassie still did what we all dreaded.
“Have you forgotten what she did to me?” Becky said, “Do you not want to punish her for that?”“I do, darling.” I said as the look of sadness on her face churned my heart. I never meant to make her feel as though she was not important to me. “But my father.. I gave him my word that I wouldn’t go after her.”A frown etched on her face. “But that was when things were different, when your company was at stake.” She said, “You didn’t want to go against her because you were afraid she would take the money away. But what happened now? Despite your kindness in sparing her, she pulled the money from the company. And now, you have nothing to lose.”At the mention of her words, I began to think about it for a moment. She was indeed making sense.&
Becky’s POVThat night, I twisted and turned on the bed, chasing sleep to no end. The man I loved, Calvin, was sleeping peacefully next to me, and I couldn’t help but feel envious of him. He had no idea what was going on in my mind. Ever since dinner, my mind was occupied with thoughts of Cassie. I couldn’t get her off my head no matter how hard I tried. Knowing that she met Calvin again today, and there was a chance she could take him away from me was haunting me. Although the likelihood of that happening was very low, I couldn’t help but worry about it. I trusted Calvin to think clearly and not believe her without checking with me first. But what if I was wrong? What if he believed her and found I was the one lying? What would I do then? Nothing. I would be powerless and lose the one person I love with all my heart. No, I cannot leave any space for such a possibility to occur. I cannot let Cassie come anywhere close to him now. But how can I do that? I can’t physically stop her n
“Thank you for your time, Miss Cassandra. We will get back to you in a few days.” The HR manager smiled at me out of formality as she handed me my file. One look at her face could reveal to me that I was not going to get this job as well. It was my third interview this week, and it made me realize how cut throat the competition in the job market is these days. One would be surprised to know how unwilling people could be to employ freshers, especially a beginner like me who had a few years of gap between graduating and starting my first job.The internship programme that I was a part of was not as brutal as this one, as it was landed to me due to my father’s influence. Only now do I realize how fortunate I was back then. From here on, surviving all by myself in this world cannot be as easy as it was for me all these years,
I felt my dress slip away from my body with ease at the mercy of his hands. I looked up at his hooded eyes, taken aback by the hunger in them. I never felt so desired by a man before. And oddly, it stirred a new confidence in me. I did not feel shy to finally get intimate with a man. Rather, I felt like I was meant to share this experience with him.“Having second thoughts yet?” He asked, rolling my hair into a thick bun behind my head. I felt a weird sensation travel down my entire body as he pulled at my roots.“No,” I said, “Just wondering why I resisted this all these days.”He raised his eyebrows up at me, “Because you’re an idiot.”H
Mr Lee's party did not fail to surprise me. I widened my eyes at what looked like a mini casino.“Damn,” I said, “Look over there. It looks like Mr Lee has just won a round of poker.”Enzo followed my gaze to look at Mr Lee holding a stack of notes in victory. His eyes fell on us then and he gestured for us to come over.“Come on, Mr DeLuca. Join us.” He said, pulling a chair beside him.“I don’t play poker, Mr Lee.” He said.“Ah, that’s too bad.” He clicked his tongue before looking at me. “Perhaps Miss Harper can join us?”
Mr Lee was not kidding. His beach property a few kilometres away from his residence was astounding. It was a member’s only resort, meaning only the wealthy had access to it. Mr Lee’s friends were also here for a small get-together, and we would be joining them to have some fun.“My staff will guide you to your villa, Mr De Luca.” Mr Lee said as we got out of his car. “This is mine. I’ll be heading in. See you in the evening for dinner. Don’t be late.”“Sure. Thank you, Mr Lee.”Only when we reached our villa did it occur to me that I would have to share it with Enzo. After all, in Mr Lee’s eyes, we were a couple.I humped
Warm rays of sunshine woke up the next morning. And as soon as I did, I realized that my body was pressed against Enzo's!I widened my eyes in surprise. Our legs were entangled, and our bodies were cuddling against each other. How did we end up like this?Somehow, I got out of his hold and went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. When I came back, Enzo was wide awake."Shit." I muttered to myself, holding the towel closer to my chest.Enzo's eyes lifted to steal a glance at me, and surprise was evident on his face. I watched as his jaw clenched. I knew too well that his gaze was not an innocent one. Grabbing my bag, I almost ran to the walk-in closet to change. After a while, we were on our way to meet our client.“It’s an unusual place to set up an office, isn’t it?” I asked once we got into the car.“Yes, which is why it's not here.” Enzo said, “It’s in Seoul. Just that Lee
By the time Enzo returned, I managed to regain some of my composure.I found a movie to watch and was about to play it when I heard someone giggle near the aisle. It was right outside mine, and it was two girls, possibly in their teens, who were gushing. The brunette said, “Oh, my god. Did you look at that man? He looks like a Greek god!”“I know right!” The blonde replied, “He’s like chiseled to perfection. I’m sure he’s european!”“Probably, but wow. He’s so hot. I wonder if he would be up for a quick snog in the washroom.”I widened my eyes in amusement. Who could be this handsome hunk they were talking about?
The weekend arrived sooner than anticipated.I barely had enough time amidst all of this to process that I was going on a business trip with Enzo. What the hell! How was I going to survive it?“You're carrying your passport, right?” Enzo asked as we arrived at the airport.“Yes.” I said and pointed to my shoulder bag, “Right here.”Nodding, he walked us to the private lounge area reserved for business class passengers. We took a seat by the couch, and instead of making conversation with me, Enzo opened his laptop and started working.Although he asked me to accompany him, Enzo barely made any effort to make things less aw
Cassie’s POVNext day at the office was rather awkward. Enzo and I ended up travelling in the same lift along with Emma, yet we didn’t exchange any words. As we got off on our floor, Emma asked me,“Is Enzo okay?”“Er… yes. Why do you ask?”“He seemed grim.” She said, “Didn’t you notice the circles under his eyes?”Well, I did. And it pained to know that I was the reason for it. I wish I could help him. But how? I was the reason he was suffering. How could I alleviate his pain?“Work stress, perhaps.” I said.
I exhaled in disbelief.Enzo wanted… me? I could not believe it!“Me?” I asked, “But… you were trying to get back with Liza, weren’t you? That night when you went to her house… I thought you were-”“No, Cassie. I didn’t go there to make things right with her. I went there to permanently break things off. To tell her that her and I can never be a thing.”“Why?” I asked, “You were serious before she went abroad right? You wanted to give it a chance when she came back.”“Well, that is partly true. But things were different back then.
Cassie’s POV“Enzo?” I said, perplexed. “Leave me!”But he didn’t. Instead, he threw a nasty glare at Ryan and dragged me out of the dance floor.“Where are you taking me?” I asked but he didn’t stop nor did he respond. He just kept moving. He only stopped when we reached a dark area in the club where nobody was around.“Enzo-”“What the hell are you up to, Cassie?” He asked in a dangerous tone.“Me? I was just dancing-”“With who?” He asked, “Who was that bastard?”
