Mika

"So Mika, how are things going with Cole?" Monique my sister asked me while we were on a video call as well as Shine my other sister.

"well, he still avoids me like a plague. He doesn't even acknowledge that I live in the same house."

"Have you tried talking to him?" Shine asked.

"I tried about a month ago but it just made it worse. I will find a note alright telling me he has gone for a trip. In the last two weeks, he has taken 4 trips out of town. It's like he is volunteering for all the trips to avoid me."

They both had weird expressions on their faces, showing that they had questions.

"what? You both look like you have alot to ask."

"Mika, you know we love you and we also know that you have had feelings or a crush on this guy for some time. But, a crush does not always mean that you will end up together. I mean he is handsome and medicine to sore eyes but, he is bad on the inside." Monique said.

"Not to forget selfish." Shine added.

"Yes, selfish too." Monique agreed. " has he taken time to even find out how you are doing. It's not like you knew about this marriage. And him treating you like sh*t is not solving anything."

"I do not know what daddy was thinking to agree to an arranged marriage with his friend. They could have merged the companies or done a deal together to strengthen the bond." Shine added.

"Why don't you try talking to daddy?"

"I will. I just think maybe lemme try to see if I can make it work."

Both of them groaned. " You believe in people alot and I fear that this man will hurt you."

We said our goodbyes and ended the call.

I got up and did my morning routine then went downstairs to make my breakfast. Cooking is the one thing that makes me relax. I had to make some cupcakes since we had a family party to attend at my inlaws house.

Cole's parents have been nothing but sweet to me and treat me like family. His brother Chris and I have goten closer to each other as we discovered we had some things in common and we also had some mutual friends.

I was just packaging the cupcakes when I heard the door open. I knew it was him but there was no point in acknowledging him since he would just ignore me. And just as I suspected he just walked up to his room without a word. I figured I better start getting ready before we have an argument for been late.

I wore an army green long dress, off shoulder neckline and a slit on one leg way high till slightly above mid thigh. I hurried down and gathered the cupcakes putting them on the table in the living room.

"Umm Mary, where is Cole?"

She looked at me with a look of pity in he eyes. "I'm sorry Mika, he left to pick up Maggy as her husband is out of town and she was invited for the party." 

I stood there looking at the cupcakes and shocked that he would leave me. I mean I know that he doesn't care about me but, am I not his wife and shouldn't he be asking me if I was going or not. Maggy is the woman he kept looking at throughout our wedding and also kept on calling throughout what was suppose to e our honeymoon. I debated with myself for a good twenty minutes before finally calling an uber.

I kept telling myself that I shouldn't allow him to make me sad as I did not need someone to make me happy. Even as I told myself that I kept been reminded that I gave up on someone for this marriage and I refuse to cheat and hurt someone that way because not only is it wrong but, I know what it feels like.

I got to the mansion of my inlaws and found Chris my husband's brother, waiting for me outside since I had texted him to come and help me. Apart from my sisters, he is the only other person who knows how bad things are with his brother.

He opened the door for me, " And where is my brother this time?"

"apparently left me behind to pick up Maggy since her husband is out of town."

Chris had a look of shock and pity in his eyes, the same look that Mary gave me.

" That's not right at all. You are his wife and an amazing person with a heart of gold, I just wish he could give you guys a chance."

I gave him a dry and nervous laugh "not going to happen. Come on help me carry these inside."

"Mika!" I heard my mother in law call out. She grabbed some of the boxes and handed them to the waiters. She then pulled me in for a hug. "you are here alone? where is Cole?"

"umm he's umm running late"

"No he's not" I tried to hush Chris but he continued "No,Mika this has gone on for so long. He is not running late per say, he went to pick up Maggy and left his wife at home.She came by uber."

I heard his mom gasp as her son told her I was left behind so he can pick up another woman. Even before any one could say anything, speak of the devil and he shall appear.

My husband walked in with his arm hooked with Maggy's arm and them looking like a happy couple in love. If I say that did not hurt I would be lying because a part of mee was jealous. He has never looked at me like that, I did not even know he was capable of showing affection to anyone.

"Cole what is the meaning of this?!" his father shouted. 

Cole gave him a bored look and rolled his eyes. "hello father. What did I do this time?"

"Cole what do you mean by what did you do?" His mom asked looking at him with sadness and disappointment.

"because I just got here and it seems like everyone is mad at me."

"You left your wife at home and went to pick up another mans wife?!"

"Why are you all mad at me? Isn't she here? And I told you that she will never be my wife in my eyes." He said the last part looking straight in my eyes and all I could see was hate.

I quickly walked away and went to the garden. Could my sisters be right about the affair. How do I call it cheating when the man clearly says I mean nothing to him.

"Hey, don't let him ruin your night." I heard Chris say to me.

"Chris, am I that bad of a person that my own husband resents me this much?"

"You are an amazing woman and any one can see that apart from him. Most of all you do not need validation from him to know that you are an amazing human being. C'mon lets go back inside."

He pulled me up and led me inside. 

"Let me just to the restroom and I will join you."

I was feeling ashamed to show my face and wanted to stall meeting everyone again.

"how could you do that to that lady?!" I heard my father in law rawr.

"But dad-----" Cole responded.

"Don't you dare say another word. I warned you that whatever is going on with Maggy should come to an end! Mika is like a daughter to this family and also the daughter of a very good and dear friend. If you hurt her, I swear I will give the company to someone else. If only you could give that girl a chance."

"Dad, I am an adult and you can't just throw someone at me. I told you that I will never consider that girl as anything to me. If you care so much about her, why didn't Chris marry her or better still why didn't you?"

I heard the sound of a slap followed by some shouting. "How dare you?!"

I think I had heard enough and I quickly rushed to the nearest powder room. I closed the door and leaned my back to it.

I have known since I found out about this union that he had no feelings for me but, I didn't know that he hated me this much. I mean literally nothing to him.

I walked towards the mirror and looked at my reflection.

'You are better than this' I heard a voice in my head tell me.

And that is right, I may never experience or have experienced what it feels like to be in love or loved but, I sure as hell know that love is suppose to be a beauti

ful thing. 

I quickly did my business and wiped the few tears that had escaped and left to face my shame.
