Olivia scrolls through the website, looking at other hybrid information, before looking for their contact number.
Once she finds it, she dials the number.
"Hello, this is Julia from Adopt a Hybrid. How can I help you?" A sweet voice comes from the receiver.
"Hi, My name is Olivia Francis. I just saw that my adoption profile was published on your website today despite me having asked you to remove my profile from your adoption list, as I decided to remain unadopted."
"Would it be possible to remove the post and verify whether or not I have been labeled as an unadopted independent hybrid?" Olivia asked politely to the lady on the other end.
"I see. Our deepest apologies for the mistake Miss Olivia. We will immediately take down our announcement on our website regarding your profile as well as update your status on the database." Julia tells Olivia.
"No worries, Thank you!"
"Would you still be interested in reviewing the profile of the adopter who was interested in you?" Julia asked, which caught Olivia half guarded.
"Pardon?"
"An adopter showed interest in your profile and selected your profile," Julia clarifies.
Olivia stays silent, not knowing what to say.
Julia continues, "I have sent his information to your registered mail id. Please go through it and let us know if you are interested in getting adopted. We are very sorry for the mistake from our end. Thank you for calling AAH, have a good day."
And the call goes silent. Olivia stares at her black screen for a few seconds and storms out of the room.
"What the f*ck?" Olivia screams when she enters her best friend’s apartment.
Mia is Olivia’s one and only best friend, who is also her sister figure, and a hybrid, too. She stays in the same building with Olivia, but both have a different apartment rented for their stay.
Whenever Olivia has some problem or an issue, she storms to Mia’s apartment to rant about it.
Mia has practically raised Olivia. She is 5 years older than Olivia, calm and thoughtful but can be brash too. She is the main reason why Olivia grew up to be a brat. They both have been friends for more than 15 years. Mia always tends to reap the mess Olivia sows.
"Everything okay?" a female voice comes from the dining room. Olivia moves toward the room.
"Nothing is okay. The AAH accidentally posted an adoption announcement for me, and when I called to ask them to remove it, I got informed that someone had picked my profile."
"Great!! Did you check out the adopter?" Mia asked excitedly. She still remembers the words Olivia said when she was young “if anyone were to love me, I wouldn’t be alone anymore, right?”
Olivia may be a cold brat, aloof at first, hot-tempered, who wants more freedom, kind of reckless, someone who is not afraid of much, someone who is often bored. But all she wishes for is someone who could love her for her.
"Why would I? It's not like I'm interested or that they will genuinely want to adopt me."
"You can know that, Olivia," Mia sighs.
Olivia snorts. "I can actually after three dozen failed adoptions…."
"Was it ever that much?" Mia says with a muffled laugh.
"I have been in the system since birth, Mia," Olivia protested.
"Come on. You could try one last time, mm," Mia says, trying to make Olivia agree to it. All she wants is happiness.
"You know, Mia. I'm kinda tired of trying," Olivia says with a sad voice.
"Don't be like that. I know you have always wanted to be with someone, didn’t you?" Mia gestures her hand for Olivia to come closer to her and sit beside her.
"Someone that isn't a prick or wants to use a hybrid as their maid or something worse," Olivia says as she flops down beside Mia.
"The AAH always makes sure to send their hybrids to good homes. You know, it’s how I found Walter," Mia said.
"I don't know… but I always found that organization is a bit suspicious. Weird things happened there sometimes."
"I have never seen anything strange but trusting your instincts is always good," Mia agreed and continued, "So, you won't check the adopter's profile then?"
Olivia contemplated for a minute before coming to a decision. "I guess it doesn't hurt to check the profile."
Mia smiled victoriously. "Keep me updated then. You can look now if you want. I’ll be with you the whole time."
After that, Olivia opened the mail sent by AAH. Mia let Olivia go through the adopter’s profile on her own. Once Olivia was done, she showed it to Mia.
“So, the adopter is 27, a male. It doesn't say anything about his job besides the fact that he ‘works in retail?’ Why would he want a hybrid?” Olivia asked Mia with confusion.
Mia just shrugged her shoulders and continued to look at the file.
“The guy in the picture looks familiar; I'm getting a weird vibe from this.” Olivia continues.
Mia turns to Olivia with surprise. “The adopter profile has a photo of a man with it?”
Olivia nods. “Yeah, it’s at the end of the file.”
Mia looks alarmed. “Ohhh”
“What?” Olivia asks with suspicion.
“Oly, I think I know who this guy is,” Mia looks terrified.
“I’m Listening?” Olivia crooks an eyebrow. Why is she acting all suspicious?
Mia gulps. “Does the name Ash ring a bell?”
Olivia looks confused. “Ash? As in that shady guy that blackmailed some people in the government?”
“He is more than just a shady guy Olivia. He is a MOB BOSS,” Mia says loudly and slams her mouth shut with her hand. Her eyes were wide and alarmed.
“I wasn’t loud, right; nobody should hear this. F*ck”
"What the f*ck?" Olivia answers Mia with a scream.
"How do you know that? How do you know he- he is a mob boss?" Olivia asks.
Mia hesitated for a second before she told the truth to Olivia. "There is something I haven't told you about Walter because it could endanger you, and I have always done my best to avoid that."
"Just spit it out" Olivia got impatient.
"I know Ash's face because I have seen it before," Mia blurted.
"Where?" Olivia lifts an eyebrow at Mia.
"When Walter took me to Ash's house for dinner. Because Walter, he is Ash's right-hand man?" Mia finished with a question-mark tone.
"Mia, what the hell…." Olivia was speechless.
"I technically never lied to you. I just- I just omitted that detail…." Mia said silently.
"You- You must be f*king with me. This has to be some sort of twisted joke" Olivia denied the possibility of that.
"I wouldn't play games with something like that," Mia said.
"F*ck," Olivia cursed. "I have something to do. I need some time to think about this. Alone. I'll contact you when I'm okay," Olivia said.
"Okay, I'm sorry," Mia said sadly.
"Bye." Olivia left Mia’s apartment with loads of questions swirling in her head.

Olivia paced in her home, contemplating what she should do now. The profile was sent by AAH. They must have done a background check on every profile they receive.
Olivia thought she must reach out to them to know more about the said mob boss. So, she dialed the AAH number.
"Hello, this is Julia from Adopt a Hybrid. How can I help you?" Julia's voice sounded.
"Hello, this is Olivia Francis. Today morning you said someone was interested in my profile, and the adopter profile was sent to my mail," Olivia asked Julia.
"Yes, Miss Olivia. I remember"
"Do you know whose profile you just sent to me?" Olivia asked.
"Asher Simon's. Why? Is there an issue with it?" Julia asked, checking the database for the information.
"Do you perhaps know who that is?" Olivia asked with caution. She doesn't want to blow the cover if they don't know who Asher Simon is.
"Well, We do a complete check on every profile we receive before the profile is verified in the database. Besides the information provided in his profile, we came to know that Asher Simon is a well-known retailer and a charitarian. Other than that, no, we don't know much about him," Julia said professionally.
"Oh, what about his job?"
"He works as a retailer," Julia clarified.
Olivia bit her lips and asked in a small voice, "Does he have my number? Did you send it to him?"
"Your phone number is automatically added to adopters having selected your profile," Julia said.
Olivia was frustrated. Ash, the mob boss, has her phone number. The thought itself brought an intense fear in Olivia's heart.
"It breaches a lot of privacy barriers, but I see. Make sure to remove my phone number as well as my profile." Olivia said, clenching her fist.
"Of course, Our apologies for our earlier mistake. However, I believe Asher Simon may contact you soon, as he mentioned to us," Julia said.
Before Olivia could say something, Julia wished her a good day and ended the call.

Olivia's phone dinged with a notification. A message from an unknown number is displayed on the lock screen.
Unknown Number: Hi Olivia, this is Asher Simon. The AAH forwarded me your phone number after I selected your profile for adoption. May we speak for a bit?
Olivia panicked when she saw the notification. She dared not open the message; instead, she did the only thing she always does. Going to Mia.Olivia entered the house with loud footsteps."Hel-" Mia started."Your boyfriend's boss just texted me," Olivia said in a panic."Ash?" Mia asked in confusion."In the file sent by AAH, he is called Asher Simon. Is that Ash's name?" Olivia asked Mia."I don't know. Walter never told me his name," Mia said."I hope it's not his actual name because it would be stupid to use his real one in official matters like those," Olivia said, thinking about it."Is it if you are untouchable?" Mia asked with raised brows."What do you mean?" Olivia was confused."He has a lot of global influence, not just in the United States," Mia said nonchalantly.Olivia was surprised to know that Asher had so much power. "What is he even, f*cking kingpin?”"Walter hasn't told me much about his job besides the obvious," Mia sighed."And what is the obvious? That your boyf
Olivia was waiting for the reply, but she smiled when it didn't come. "I have talked to him for ten seconds, and he is already put off by me. Olivia was sitting in Mia's living room, explaining her night adventure to Mia."Today had been utter sh*t" Mia looked up from her book when she heard Olivia cursing. Olivia has been in a bad mood this morning, and she has been complaining about it since the morning."Mia, are you listening?" Mia just gave a slight nod. "You know I couldn't sleep at all last night because of the mob boss thingy."Mia kept nodding her head, indicating she was listening, "and laying down in bed with a knife wasn't the smartest thing I’ve ever done in my life, quite frankly.""You slept with a knife in your hand?" Mia raised an eyebrow. Sometimes she wondered what exactly runs through Olivia's mind."Yes, what should I do if the Mob boss sends someone to kill me because I called him stupid" Olivia was terrified. Mia stared at the small knife in Olivia's hand, and she couldn't help but shake her head."You are a Wolf Hybrid if I remember correctly. You could just turn and attack the person if someone trie
Asher came into the office with a frown."What is it, Ash? Did something happen?" Paul asked with concern."I was supposed to be entertaining the hybrid and make her to accept my proposal, but I think I made the hybrid sad,” Asher said with a frown on his face."Olivia?" Paul asked to which Asher nodded."Yes, How do I unsad her?" Asher asked Paul.Does it matter if the hybrid is sad?" Adam, who was standing by the window, asked."No, I guess not," Asher said, looking confused."Ignore him, Ashy. Adam is being his usual bitter self for the same reasons as usual. Now tell me, what is it about Olivia?" Paul asked curiously.Asher handed his phone to Paul. He read all the chats and could not help but ask, "Well, is she annoying?""Yes," Asher agreed.Paul was speechless."I mean, she is annoying, but in a funny way somehow. But still annoying," Asher said.Paul sighed and said, "Tell her that but be nice. Sugarcoat it a bit," Paul suggested. "Remember why we need her, Ash.""All right,"
"Boss?" Walter said into the phone when the call connected."Yes," Asher's sharp voice came through the other end."Well, something strange occurred with the hybrid Olivia. Mia is quite worried about that," Walter said cautiously.Asher was silent for a bit, then asked, "Tell me, what is it?""The door of Olivia's apartment was opened when she came back from work" Walter stopped and took a deep breath, and asked, "Does it have something to do with what you asked for Steve to do?""No, It does not," Asher said.Walter was relieved. It has nothing to do with his boss. He was simply worried about what to tell Mia if it was true that their gang was involved in the matter. Now that he knew, he was less worried."Her door was opened?" Asher asked Walter."Yes," Walter answered."Where is she?" Asher's voice came sharp.Walter looked at Mia, who was now sitting beside him, and said into the receiver, "Olivia went to verify the situation""When? She went on her own?" Asher was now furious. Wa
Olivia called Mia the first thing after the incident. "That mother f*ckers really thought they could win against me even in a one v/s three. Stupid f*cks" "Thank god Olivia. Finally, you replied to my calls. Where were you till now?" Mia exhaled. "My jaw hurts, and my lips are busted in two places. I'm not talking like that," Olivia protested. "Are you okay? What happened?" Mia asked with concern. "Don't worry, Mia. I'm fine. Did I tell you those f*ckers could never win me, even in 1 v/s 3? I-" Olivia paused. "One sec, someone else is trying to call," Olivia said. "Who?" "Ash. Gonna receive his call. Talk to you later." "Bros before mobs. What the f*ck, Olivia" Mia protested. "Sorry, Mia, but he has a beard that automatically makes him better than you," Olivia said playfully. "Yeah, alright, you're fine. F*ck you, by the way," Mia ended the call with a huff. * * * * * * * * * * "Hiiii," Olivia said into the receiver. "Don't f*cking 'Hiiii' me after disappearing like that,"
Later that night The three student neighbors were getting wasted partying on their small victory of trashing Olivia's flat. "That b*tch thought she could do as she wished? Just a f*cking animal has the nerve to go against us," Caden said with a snort. "We should have destroyed everything," William said, gulping down the liquor in his glass. "But her door is destroyed," Caden laughed. "Now she should know her place. B*tch" All of their phones chimed at a time with notifications. All of them took out their phones and looked at the notification, and looked at each other in confusion. All three of them were added to a group chat by a restricted number. Henry: Wtf? Both stare at each other silently. Asher’s words ring in the silent room. His face is filled with uncertainty and hesitation but also assurance. He is willing to do that only if Olivia will accompany him during those nights.Olivia without even hearing his words understands the turmoil in Asher’s heart. “Of course, Asher. we can call, facetime, or text whenever there's one. I’ll always be there with you”“Thank you.” Asher’s face breaks into a smile. The genuine smile makes Olivia’s heart tingle “We'll make a bunch of good memories about storms so that the bad ones are gone.” She says with a smile.Asher looks surprised and delighted with the suggestion “I'd love that.”“Me too.”Olivia looks at Asher and suddenly she remembers something “Also, I'm learning how to bake.”“What? They both go silent after that, looking at each other's faces not knowing what to say."What?” Olivia starts, she was offended by the silence from Asher “Did I say something wrong?" she asks Asher with a smile.Asher’s face lit up and he shook his head "No, not at all."His answer made Olivia satisfied, she nodded her head with a happy smile on her face. "Was there a thunder on your side?""Yeah, something like that." Asher’s face dims remembering the situation he was trying to ignore.Olivia notices and asks with a soft voice "Do you want to talk about it?"Asher looks startled "About what?" he asks with confusion."Why you're scared of storms."Asher peruses his lips and goes silent. His tongue comes out to lick his dry lips. He shifts on his bed curling on to himself "There's nothing much to say.""I'm still listening if you want to share." “I could live in this car.” Olivia sighs into the leather seat.“I don’t think Mini would appreciate that,” Asher says from where he’s bent over, his arms propped on the edge of the rolled-down window.“Good point. She’s tiny but needs a lot of space, a bit like Steve.” Olivia snickers at her own joke, two duffle bags brimming with Asher’s clothes thrown over the seat next to where she’s installed at the back of the car.“I’ll tell him you say that.”“Go ahead, I’ve been meaning to fight him after Airhead.”“Brat.”Olivia peers up at Asher, catching the fond smile on the boss’ lips. “Thank you for the date.”“You’re welcome, and thank you too,” Asher says, his face close to Olivia. “You enjoyed yourself?”“Mhm, the most,” Olivia grins as she fastens her belt when the driver enters the vehicle“Me too,” Asher whispers, and with his index, he brushes a strand of hair away from Olivia’s forehead. “I won’t be able to text you much today, but I’ll do what I can to try.”“It’s fine, don’t w
When Olivia wakes up a few hours later, it’s to an empty bed, Asher’s side on the mattress tidied up, the phone and iPad on the nightstand gone.It doesn’t take long for Olivia to figure out where the mob boss went when, and after relieving herself in the restroom, she climbs down the stairs to make her way to the dining room.Asher is seated at the end of the table installed in the corner of the bay windows and Olivia trudges up to the mob boss.Hands shoved in her pants pockets, Olivia knocks her foot on the leg of the chair Adam is occupying, the one directly on Asher’s left.“Move,” Olivia orders when Adam does not budge.Adam swivels around. “Say that again, GaintDog?”“That’s my seat. Move.”“How about you f*ck off before I shoot you in the knee?” Adam snaps when Olivia kicks the chair again. “It’s no one’s seat, however right now it’s mine because my a*s is on it.”“Adam, come on,” Walter intervenes from where he’s lounged further down the table, Mia by his sides. “They’re in t
