Darren held her and disappeared, Emery shut her eyes tightly. Just like before, she felt a swift movement. All she wanted right now was his command. “Open your eyes,” Darren whispered in her ears.

The warm air gave her a tingly feeling, she shivered. Emery moved away from him, her eyes were widely open and they were in a hotel room.

The whole place had an exquisite design, just as expected Darren goes for the best. There were very similar designs to that of his mansion but she knew they weren't back. And right now, she had no idea how to get there.

Emery's heart edged with curiosity,

She was back to the initial question— How? “My phone,” Emery suddenly yelled.

“It's on the cupboard,”

Emery's face darkened, but asking how now would make her more confused than she is. She searched for the cupboard and found her bag. She didn't need to know any other details—she knew all her items were intact.

The whole room became so silent, Emery was lost in thoughts.

Nick burst into laughter, “She didn’t even wait for my reply.” He said sounding helpless. Taking his phone, he transferred some money to his sister’s account. In less than a minute his phone rang.Looking at the caller ID nick’s face laced with a wide smile, “Do you have to be such a show off?” Rita said at the other end and hung up the call. Looking at his phone screen which displayed the disconnected call, Nick let out a hearty laughter. It was good having his sister back into the country. They’ve being hiding her for years now, now he was free from such things. Being trolled by the media now wasn’t life threatening as it was before. Now they had the influence and power to silence the media if they choose to.Rita could be a handful sometimes but he knew she has a great and good heart. He had no idea where she came up with such a plan, but he felt it was best. He didn’t have to worry about his Talia’s safety, Rita had given him her word. But even at that he would handle things disc

“Just be careful, we have so many enemies now, you have to look out for yourself and be very careful. If you see anything usual call me immediately. Don’t think twice!” Margaret said in a warning tone. “I will mom.” She smiled and hung up the call. She looked ahead with a smile, her brother would never let her down, and she could always count on him. Her curiosity was getting the best of her, “Drive to the old warehouse,” she instructed. He shook his head affirmatively in response. She had always had the feeling that no woman is worthy of her brother, she felt that no one could meet up to his high standards and status. She also had her own high standards for her future sister in-laws but Talia was in no way in that class. She fell poorly behind it all, she wanted what Nick was actually thinking. Talia had rejected his proposal five years ago. How could he forgive the same woman? Rita felt Talia could barely protect herself talk less of protecting him, how then would she build up an e

Where the hell did you keep your phone? I went to find you at your apartment and I couldn't find you. Have you gone back to Darren's Mansion?” Amelia questioned, her eyes looking into the phone screen.Emery felt Amelia could drag her hair and pull out her scalp if she was physically present. How should she explain this to her? “Why are you silent?” Amelia said, sounding impatient. These days she couldn't explain it but something felt wrong. She had a feeling of uneasiness. Left with no choice Emery had to lie to her friend. “Awwn, so you mean he took you on his private jet to India?” “Yes,” Emery lied. “I need to see pictures.” Amelia said with excitement. Emery walked towards the window, showing her the scenery. Amelia screamed with excitement. “Have fun, I was so worried about it, now I have to get to work “ she said and ended the call. “Alex, this is Amelia , we need to talk.”As scheduled, they met in a cafe, discussing everything related to Emery. Alex listened attentively, “

Emery got out of the wash room, Darren frowned, his little woman was looking so pale. “What's wrong?” He questioned. “I'm fine,” she lied. She didn't want him to worry himself over nothing. “You don't look good.”Emery left the sluggishness her legs were exhibiting. She had no idea why she felt so weak at this point. The words Darren spoke sounded strange to her, she raised her eyelids to see his lips moving. She had no idea what he was saying. Without saying any more words, Darren lifted her up in his arms. “Hold on tightly,” he commanded. Emery did as told and Darren disappeared, it was as of he was never there. The morning sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow on the grand mansion. Emery opened her eyes groggily and stood from the bed, half-expecting herself to be in her scratchy, uncomfortable bed at home. It took her several minutes of shocked blinking to realize she was somewhere else. The memories of what had happened last night came pouring back in one

Cynthia slowly opened her eyes, groggy and confused. “Where am I?” She muttered .The last thing she remembered was..... Well, she couldn't quite place it. Her mind felt blank, and a dull ache throbbed in her head.As her eyes slowly adjusted to the dim light, Cynthia realized she was hanging upside down. Her wrists and ankles were bound, suspended from the ceiling by a web of ropes. Panic surged through her, and she struggled against the restraints, but they held firm.Who could have done this? Cynthia hadn't been in town for a while until now. It should be safe and peaceful. She had thought she was free from the dangers and intrigues of the business world. It seemed she had been wrong. She had her fears ever since she chose to be on Emery side but she never thought they would come to her so soon. Cynthia's mind raced, trying to think of anyone who might want to harm her. “Margaret,” she muttered. This was the only person she could think of. Or could it be someone else? If yes, then

“Mom,” Rita called out behind her. Margaret turned to look at her daughter. She knew Rita had something to report. “Mom, who is Zack?” Rita questioned. “Zack—” Margaret muttered, raking through her brain. “Yes, Zach, or is it Zach. Whatever, he was responsible for the events that happened yesterday.” Rita explained.“I know so many Zak, I would find out the exact ome6and don't worry, I would deal with him “ she assured her daughter. “What about Talia?” She questioned.Rita sighed, “I have no idea about her for now, I heard she is mourning with her parents.”Hearing this Margaret burst into laughter. “Mourning is a very harsh word to use, you need to start liking her, she's your sister-in-law.”Rita rolled her eyes, she knew her mother would say this. “You and Nick can't force that in me. After the test, then I will know if she will be my ally or enemy. Mom, I learn from you. I never let a grudge go without setting a punishment.”Margaret laughed, she was supposed to be angry but sh

And now she was giving the same pain and everyone had the guts to judge her? Why? Who gave them that right? Did anyone intervene during her time? No one came through for her and her family. They all laughed and made her feel so terrible. Now they are to shut their mouths and watch. The thought back to these things was quite a load. It sent a shiver of excitement down her spine. • Locked in the Devil's Deal   Earth

Emery's first breath tastes like remembrance and ash. When she awakens, she sees a sky that is divided in half, half dawn and half dusk, neither of which is subject to the sun. It's a familiar world. However, it is incorrect. Structures tilt where they shouldn't. Streets twist and turn. Trees groan, their leaves glistening like mirrors. Somewhere, a bird's sounds dissolve into quiet as it sings in reverse. The clocks tick, but in reverse. Time seems to be striving to reverse itself. Additionally, the mirrors The mirrors depict her then, not now. Previously. She recognizes faces, but not exactly. Faces with her anger, scars, and eyes and another item. Something more ancient. She staggers along. Before it stops feeling normal, her body feels normal. Her skin starts to blossom as a result of her decision. [If the dagger was Emery's choice:] Her fingers are burning. She casts her gaze downward. Godfire. Her veins pulsate with a sluggish, simmering flame that is bla

It was a lie, the quiet before the storm. In the empty space, three pedestals stood motionless and silent, observing her as if they were gods deferring judgment. A dagger with a black blade that glistened with ancient runes and vibrated with power beyond this world can be seen on the left. It beat. It recalled her. A golden, elaborate ring that shines too brightly for a space this hollow sits in the center. It appeared to be salvation. Or a glittering cage. A dark, smooth, blank, and innocent key is on the right. However, it was the realm's heaviest object. From this distance, she could sense it. As if gravity itself leaned in that direction. Emery stood between them, her lungs hardly remembering how to breathe, her breath seizing in her throat. It's this. The instant the cosmos had been turning back toward. The decision that had always been hers but wasn't just hers. Her hands shook. Not in terror. Using memory. Then— She took a step forward. She extended her han

As soon as Emery entered the mirror-door, reality engulfed him. Under her, the earth glowed like water, shattered like ice, and then came back together as luminous obsidian. Something ancient pumped through the air, not heat or cold. alive. The following step snapped back like elastic, the first one stretching into eternity. Here, the laws of distance did not apply. Or they had been rewritten if they did. Under her feet, symbols glowed—runes that glowed silver, gold, and something darker, like ink derived from the stars. Every time her foot touched down, more of them woke up, igniting a route that changed the more she attempted to follow it. They pulsed with her heartbeat. All at once, high-pitched, guttural, and musical voices murmured in the air. a language that she somehow grasped despite not knowing. "Emery." From all sides and none, her name was spoken. It's more like a remembrance than a hello. perhaps a cautionary tale. She turned in slow circles. “Where am I?”

The reflection moved first.Emery's breath hitched as the image of herself inside the mirror smirked, lifting a hand as if reaching for her. But the movements weren’t hers. The woman in the reflection... her, yet not her... tilted her head in quiet amusement. The golden glow of the mirror intensified, illuminating the fractures beginning to spread across the glass, fine as spiderwebs.Emery stepped forward, an almost uncontrollable pull dragging her in. She lifted a hesitant hand, fingertips hovering inches from the surface. It felt alive. Pulsing beneath her skin like a heartbeat. Her fingers touched the glass.Pain exploded through her skull.A memory... not a memory. Under Emery's fingers, the metal handle pulsed, sending a constant, throbbing beat up her arm. It seemed warm, almost alive, as if it were anticipating something. For her. The man in the mask spoke in a quiet voice that was slightly tinged with dread. "Are you certain that you are prepared for this?" Emery remained silent. as she wasn't certain. However, the noble was. His golden eyes flickered with delight as he leaned against the splintering frame with his arms folded. His lips curled into a lazy smirk as he whispered, "Go ahead." Don't claim I didn't warn you, though. She gripped the handle with her fingers. She turned it after that. The world disappeared. She was pulled forward by a gust of wind that ripped through her. Everything was sucked up by the weightless, limitless darkness. She was falling for a short, horrifying minute, her heart pounding in her ears, her air stuck in her lungs, and then— She landed. The air was heavy with laughter and music, and the aro

Before she even considered saying it, Emery's mouth came up with the name. It was waiting there, so sure, so familiar. Pain burned through her skull like a blade slicing right through it the instant it emerged in her consciousness. She shook from the sudden pain and gasped, sinking her fingers into the man's arms. The name escaped, barely within grasp. When she touched him, the man tensed. He strengthened his hold on her, as though preparing for the next move. His face was still expressionless, but there was something more in his keen, dark eyes. "Don't think about me." There was something almost regretful in his quiet voice. Emery's breath caught in his throat. "So why do I?" He didn't respond. There was a shudder in the room. The floor beneath them, the lamp, and the walls all wavered and warped like a water-shattered mirror. The tiny light from the carved symbols pulsed in time with the pounding in her head. It was falling apart here. Or perhaps—reforming. Another

  • Locked in the Devil's Deal   Pain

Pain.. Emery was startled awake as it burned through her body like lightning. She inhaled sharply, taking in a breath that was too heavy and thick. There was something metallic and harsh in the air, along with the smell of damp stone and earth. Not in the ballroom. Not the manor. She didn't know of any place. With shaky hands on the uneven ground, she forced herself up. stone. The stone is cold, fractured, and wet. She looked up and realized that everything was wrong. She was surrounded by a ruinous courtyard that was engulfed by growing vines. Above, looming stone walls that had been partially defaced by time. The sky was a deep indigo, eternal twilight that swirled like a living creature and was neither night nor day. It shouldn't be here. The man in the mask remains silent, his fingers moving at his sides as though he is fighting the impulse to grab her. But the noble— A slow applause. Deliberate and slow, the sound cuts through the tension like a razor. She spins around. He is present. His golden eyes shine with laughter as he emerges from the shadows at the ballroom's edge. He appears as majestic and untouchable as ever, dressed in deep crimson, but a sly smile is visible on his lips. "You always believe you have options." Not because of what he says, but because she has heard it before, his voice makes her shiver. The world flickers before she can say anything. similar like a dwindling candle's flame. The air changes as soon as Emery enters the room. Her stomach lurches with a sudden, nauseating lurch. Under her feet, the solid floor vanishes. She dives into the shadows.
