Chapter 65: Weight of Concern

As Theron walked through the door, I could see the worry etched into his face. He hesitated for a moment before speaking, a sure sign that he needed to say something he knew I wouldn't want to hear.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" he asked, his voice low and hesitant.

I nodded, feeling a knot of dread begin to form in my stomach. Theron had been doing business in Brookville for several months now, and while I had always been supportive of his ventures, lately my concerns had grown. Samantha, that evil woman with a dangerous grudge against our family, still resided in Brookville, and I worried that she may try to harm him in some way, especially now that he chose me rather than her.

"I need to go back to Brookville for a few days," Theron said, breaking into my thoughts. "There are a few things I need to take care of. Love, it's still about our business."
