“Ugh! This is useless! I’m not made for meditating.” I whined as I flopped back on the patio floor. Every part of me ached from sitting on the stone ground, my butt was numb and cold and I was covered in goosebumps. We had been sitting out here for 4 hours now. And I have made no progress. I couldn’t even feel my feet anymore.
“You’re not focusing enough Haven. Meditation isn’t just letting your mind go blank. Sometimes it’s about intent and letting go of control.” Ezra said for what seemed like the millionth time.
“Yeah well if we don’t stop the only thing I’m going to let go of control for is my bladder. I’ve had enough. I’m cold, my feet are asleep, my butt is numb and I need to pee.” I grumbled as I got to my feet with a ton of difficulty, the pins and needles shooting pain all the way up my legs.

Hello everyone :) I would love your thoughts and opinions on this story. Constructive criticism is appreciated.
Over the next month, things were hectic, to say the least. It’s not like I was so busy I didn’t have time to do anything else, it was just hectic with every day being very different. On days I had therapy I would wake up relatively early and get some things done around the house, mostly so I wouldn't feel like it was a waste of a day. I’d then go to therapy, become an emotionally vulnerable mess, then go home and often sleep or cry and just need time. Ezra would wake me for dinner and then We’d train some more. Meditation still sucked but at least now he wasn’t making me sit on the stone-cold floor. We’d try different rooms in the house or even different areas outside in the grass still didn’t make a difference. Some days I’d be able to see James for a bit, he’d come over with Thatcher, we’d play with him outside, let him explore the house as James and I talked and just spent time together. The feelings w
Ezra looked at me with a furrowed brow and quickly scanned the area before looking back at me and nodding once as he put the fruit in the cart and motioned me to follow him over to the side. His walk was quick and tense, the set of his shoulders projecting his unease. The people around us were oblivious to the current of fear and unease we were both projecting, but I had spent the last month and a bit studying Ezra just as he had been studying me so I was able to tell when something was wrong. I frowned in confusion when he led us to a check-out line and looked at him in question. “We’re going to act like nothing is wrong, pay for our groceries and put them in the car. That will give us the time and space to scan the customers to find the source of this feeling. I have my suspicions of what it is, but I will not act without confirmation otherwise it would be a danger to humans and a disservice to your tra
We sat like that, me in his lap, his arms around me for a long time. It was getting late into the afternoon by the time he pulled away and all that time I ran my hand down his back and threw his hair to soothe and comfort him. Not a single word was spoken by either of us and Thatcher was sound asleep on the cushion with his hoard of toys around him. When James finally sighed and pulled his face out of my neck I looked at him and cupped his stubble-covered cheeks and wiped away a few tears with my thumbs. His blue eyes weren’t as bright and looked much more stressed and tired than I had ever seen them. “You alright?” I asked softly, wincing at the stupid question. He gave me a soft smile and nodded, running his hand through his hair and sighing heavily. “I’m…I’m alright. It just hit me harder this time than it ever has before.” He explained with a
“Dinner is ready. Shall we eat poolside or did you want to eat in the kitchen?” Ezra asked as he made his way into the room, his voice echoing slightly off the tiles. I turned to him and smiled as I climbed out of the pool and wrapped a towel around me. “I’d rather eat in the kitchen. I’m gonna make tea, did either of you want?” I asked both men as I dried off quickly before wrapping my hair in a tighter and higher bun and pulling on a floor-length fleece housecoat. Super warm and cozy. “I’ll take a cup. I’m going to dry off and change. I’ll meet you guys in the kitchen.” James said with a smile before taking Thatcher and letting him outside so he could run around and dry off. I followed Ezra into the kitchen and immediately put the kettle on to boil hummin as I did so. “It smells amazing, Ezra. Did you make roll
I followed silently behind Ezra as he went to the back door, pulled out a lock picking kit and within seconds picked the lock. I crept in behind him silently as he opened the door and went to the alarm pad, disabling it with ease, closing the door behind us as we stood in the kitchen to let our eyes adjust. “We’ll have to perform the ritual in his room, and we have to be quick about it. The longer it takes the higher the risk is of the morphling trying to jump from its current host and finding a new one.” Ezra explained as we slowly tiptoed through the bungalow-style home. “We’ll have to put a ring of salt around his bed, use holy oil and holy water along with prayer and recite it as we bind the morphling.” “Whoa, prayer? Ezra, I don’t know any of that.” I hiss as a sliver of doubt and fear of this backfiring washed through me. Ezra reached into his pocket an
The fire was roaring in my ears, the flames higher than my head and around me in a complete circle, the shadows behind the fire obscured and barely visible between the flickering or the flames, the loud inhuman shrieks overridden by the waves. I turned in a circle, my heart pounding, and my breathing ragged. I lifted my hands over my mouth to combat the choking smoke that felt like its thick ashy tendrils were crawling down my throat. I coughed and blinked away the tears as my eyes watered, grunting and cowering away from the flames and the wisps of it reached for me, burning my clothes and singing my skin. I screamed in fear seeing the flames lower slightly and the dark monstrous creatures beyond, arched and deformed with sharp teeth and claws, the stuff of nightmares and fear. I screamed and thrashed as one of them grabbed me from behind, it’s claws digging into my shoulders and tearing skin as it shook me and opened it’s jaws to rip out my throat.
I stretched and yawned, turning in my bed and rolling over to see Ezra asleep beside me. His face was relaxed and soft in his sleep, his chest fell and rose with his even breathing and I may have felt a little creepy watching him sleep but it’s not like I had the opportunity to be this close to him and observe him in private. He was very handsome, with a strong jaw, full lips, high cheekbones, and his black hair was a little longer than when I first saw him. He was broad-shouldered and muscular, his hand rough and calloused, his chest and abdomen well-muscled and had a defined v. I felt like a creep but I couldn’t deny I liked what I saw. “It’s rude to stare you know.” His voice was soft with a hint of laughter as my eyes shot up to his to see his grey eyes bright and full of mirth. I flushed and shook my head at him. “My bed, my rules.” I teased back with a
“Stop Ezra. Why are you acting like this all of a sudden? You haven't done anything like this in all the time I’ve known you.” I watched him, a small frown on his face as his grey eyes darkened like a storm. “I’ve seen the way James looks at you and how you look at him. You have no future with him. He’s the type that wants the whole package, marriage, kids, family home, all of it. You can’t give him any of that. You are ageless Haven, you will never change, you can not have children. You have no chance at a future with James. That is what I’m trying to point out to you.” His voice was steady, with no emotion or inflection, just deadpan honest monotone words. I frowned and pushed against his chest, pushing him away from me and stepping out into the kitchen, putting the counter between us as I turned to face him. I was angry, annoyed, irritated and damn near ev
Hello Everyone I'm not sure if anyone even reads this story but unfortunately, I will be putting this one on hiatus until my The Moon and Sun Series is finished. I do intend to finish it as it's a story I very much want to share with people but it's not a priority right now. Sorry to anyone who reads it and sees this as I know how disappointing this can be as a reader. I just ask that you be patient with me and I assure you that as soon as I am able I will come back to this story and continue with it for everyone's enjoyment. Thank you for understanding Cheers
“Hello? Ah, James, Haven is sleeping right now. Can I take a message? Yes, she mentioned something about going to your place. No, it was a rough day at therapy, she needed to come home and just decompress after all of that. I don’t know if she’s still feeling up to it but I will ask her and get her to call you back.” I groaned as the sound of Ezra talking woke me up, sighing as I realized he was speaking to James. That would just further Jame’s preconceived notions about Ezra and I. I sat up from my position, lying wrapped in Ezra’s arms and looked at him as he handed me my phone that was still open to James’s call. I took it and placed it to my ear with a small sigh. “James, sorry I hadn’t intended on falling asleep.” “It’s fine, Haven. Are you ok? Ezra said that you had a rough appointment today.” His voice was
I sat in my car after therapy and sighed heavily. Today was a harder session. She could tell I was holding stuff back and I just didn’t feel like divulging much, my mind still a jumbled mess from this morning and all of last night's events. I felt like I wasn’t putting my all in and wasn’t getting what I wanted from it. She advised me that for the next session I tell her what was weighing on me today so she can properly help me. I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths, my head back and the radio playing softly. I breathed evenly and just sat in silence for a while before sitting up and turning on the car, heading to my next appointment for my physio. This one was slightly more enjoyable. I didn’t ache as much and I could do the exercises quickly compared to when I first started. My physiotherapist was convinced today would be my last session. I guess turning into something different had its perks. St
