Chapter 4: Sneaky and suspicious

Nina put everything behind them, Cody was so kind to her that she forgot that he ever cheated. She suggested they had children to which Cody agreed. They both believed it would strengthen their bond, for some reason they had been together for three years yet there were no kids.

“Do you think one of us is infertile?” Nina asked one day while Cody was playing chess with her. Cody sighed.

“It’s only been three years Nina calm down” he was growing weary of Nina’s impatience.

“Do you think we should see a specialist?” Nina asked casually when they were preparing to go out for dinner. It was to commemorate their 4th anniversary. “If that will make you feel okay then why not?”

So they booked an appointment and made their way to the hospital. It was at that hospital Cody met Rosa, something about her reminded him of Annalise his first love. Except she was calm, he had to admit he had a thing for brown skinned women, could he be drawn to her because she had the same features as Annalise? He started to flirt with her Rosa knowing very well he had come with his wife who was getting her scan done, Rosa responded positively to him. Before he left the hospital with Nina he already had Rosa’s number.

Back at home Nina buried herself in the arms of her husband while they relaxed on their porch.

“Don’t you think you have been working too hard? Ever since we got married it has been one project after the other, can you give yourself a break?” Nina requested.

“You’ve been working hard too, I’m not the only guilty one here” he defended himself.

“ I agree, I think we both should take a break right? Let’s go to the resort in Brimmen, we’ll be away from everyone, it’ll be just the two of us and other lovers I guess”

Cody was conflicted he didn’t know if he was to agree and leave all the work behind or just do it to make her happy.

When are you suggesting?” He asked.

“This weekend, honey please don’t say no” Nina pleaded. Cody began to rack his brain to come up with the best excuse to not meet Rosa that weekend. Nina barely made any requests and so saying no to this seemed heartless of him.

“Nina, the notice you gave me is too short, this weekend I made plans” he protested. Nina’s countenance immediately dropped. Cody was beginning to feel so bad. He gave up and nodded.

“Okay, Brimmen it is”

Nina happily wrapped her arms around him.

At midnight she woke up to with a strong urge to urinate, she almost didn’t notice that Cody wasn’t in their bed. When she came back from the bathroom she marched out of the bedroom and began storming all the rooms to find her husband who had gone missing in their own house.

She spotted him at the backyard and stood there watching him as he spoke on the phone.

“Okay, deal… I’ll take you along… I promise” he turned around and his eyes met Nina’s glare. He immediately faked a smile. “Good night, so I’ll see you soon” he immediately hang up and went to Nina trying to hug her but she pushed him away.

“Who the hell was that?” She asked angrily.

“Cara, she wants to attend the fifth inauguration ceremony but mum wants her to do something else, so I promised to take her”

“Let me see your phone” she snatched his phone from him and checked the call log, it was indeed Cara’s name at top of the call log.

“You see?” He said taking his phone back.

“Why didn’t you just take the call in the room then” she interrogated.

“She kept ranting, I kept calming her down didn’t want to wake you” he answered and gave her a reassuring hug. She wanted to trust him but she just seemed to have an unsettling feeling that she couldn’t shake off.

The next morning while Cody was making preparations for the jet to take them to their destination Nina stopped him.

“I want to go by car” she insisted.

“Why? It’s going to be a long ride” he complained.

“Yes, that way we can have time to bond” Cody sighed and agreed to yet again another request from his beloved wife.

“Women, you’ll think letting them do whatever they want will let them allow you to do whatever you want” he remarked to the hearing of his driver. Seth agreed with him, “They always want to have their way”

“Can you let Rosa take the jet instead” he said to Seth. Who needed in agreement.

“Yes sir I’ll let Remi know about that”

Cody smiled and got into the car.

“I heard at the mountain top there’s a monument where you can sign you and your partners name and you two will be together forever.” Nina said to Cody who was changing into something comfortable.

“You don’t believe in that nonsense do you?” Cody said nonchalantly.

“But there’s no harm in trying it” Nina said. Cody only sighed she had made up her mind and the only choice he had was to tag along.

After they had settled in Nina and Cody held hands and hiked their way up the mountain. Nina was happy during the hike it was the first time in years she had ever felt close to Cody. He was there but also distant, he was the perfect description of an emotionally unavailable man. Nina was trying so hard to hang on top the man she loved while be pulled away at any given opportunity. As they both signed their names onto the wall, Nina smiled. Now she would belong to Cody forever. Meanwhile Cody made plans on how he was going to meet up with Rosa in her hotel room and appease her.

“See now we can be together forever, Cody” Nina said beaming with smiles.

“We’re already married we are together forever”

Cody answered.

“I love you Cody, I’d love if I heard that from you too, I get lonely, I get confused. I wish you could assure me sometimes too” she said emotionally.

The night was getting colder but the view from the mountain top was also getting beautiful. Lights lit up from the resort making it a sight to behold. Cody hugged Nina. “I love you too Nina, thank you for being by my side even when I act like you’re not there” he kissed her forehead then proceeded to kiss her lips as the kissing was getting heated Nina stopped him “We really should get a room” they both laughed and happily started their journey down the mountain.

Back at the hotel Cody had come up with the perfect plan to make his wife happy and appease his mistress at the same time. Nina stepped into the hotel room to find flower petals all over the floor, a pleasant smell greeted her a she stepped in. She sniffed and smiled “wow how they should let me take this humidifier back home” she said under her breath. When she got to the bed she was pleasantly surprised with petals beautifully arranged on the bed. “Oh Cody” she exclaimed happily as a tear dropped from her eyes. She felt a warm embrace from behind her and smiled, he spun her around and turned on the sound system, then danced with her slowly to the music playing on the system.

“I’m a bad dancer but I hope you can forgive me tonight” Cody apologized as Nina giggled like a little girl.

As he swirled her off her feet to their bed, he smiled that his plan was going perfectly well.

At 11:30pm Cody made his way to Rosa’s hotel room it was at the other end of the resort he had to take one electric resort car to make his movements faster. He headed straight to where the resort cars were parked and hoped on. John who was in charge of the cars immediately stepped out.

“Who’s there?” He asked approaching the car. Cody smiled at him.

“It’s me, it’s good that you’re here, drive me to the other there’s someone there I need to see” Cody commanded.

“Oh Good evening sir, I didn’t expect to see you here” he answered.

“Get on” Cody commanded him and he did as he was told. “Now you have to do me a favor, alert me at the first sign of danger, here’s my number” The old man stared at him as he threw instructions here and there. He only shook his head while they took a short their trip.

“You, brought me here and still stood me up” Rosa complained. As Cody tried to comfort her by running his hands through her hair.

“I’m here now, don’t be stay mad else we can’t enjoy our time here” Cody pleaded with her.

“Cody I have to go back in two days, if you spend all the time with her what am I here for?” She asked. Cody nodded in agreement “So will you go back? I’ll see when I return” Rosa immediately noticed how she had messed up. No she wasn’t going to back down that easily she knew what she wanted from Cody and she was going to make sure she got it.

“No, I’m not going back” they smiled at each other and followed up with a kiss.

Nina who had been awakened by her phone and was informed about Cody’s whereabouts made her way to the hotel room. She banged on the door, yelling angrily and Cody rushed to open it. She charged in and grabbed a half empty bottle without much thinking threw it right at Cody.
