Chapter 21

William, who had rushed over, witnessed the entire scene. He looked at the man lying on the ground, and his inscrutable eyes became even more so.

Furrowing his brows, he continued walking in this direction.

“Cece–”

At that soft call, Cecelia raised her head abruptly. Upon seeing William, she looked as if she saw a savior, and leaped into his arms hurriedly.

“Pretty boy, what should I do? I don’t think that person is going to make it. He was trying to save me. If anything happens to him, what will his family do?”

Cecelia had never experienced such terror. When she imagined that man dying, her heart was drowned in guilt.

Cecelia’s fragility was caught by William’s eyes. He brushed away the wet hair that fell over her face, and consoled softly, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”

Unexpectedly, a few words from William managed to appease Cecelia, and her tightly wound heart relaxed a fair bit.

She stared into his dark eyes as her lips quivered, “Pretty boy, he’s going to be fine, right?”

“Yes, he’s going to be fine!”

“Promise me!”

“I promise!”

While they were talking, the ambulance arrived. William had made a call as soon as the accident happened.

Getting into the vehicle, William said to Cecelia, “Go home and wait for me.”

“No,” Cecelia grabbed William’s hands tightly. “I’m coming along.”

That person gave his life to save hers, how could she leave him? Even if she went back, she would be restless.

The determination in her eyes was apparent. William knew she would not relent easily, and eventually pulled her into the car with him.

At the hospital.

The lights of the operating room had been on for more than three hours.

For Cecelia, every second of the three hours was excruciating.

As if seeking comfort, the more nervous she got, the tighter she held William’s hands.

“Please be alright, please be alright, please be alright–”

Finally, just as Cecelia’s anxious breathing was getting erratic, the doors of the operating room flung open.

When the doctor walked out, Cecelia pulled William along with her, “Doctor, he–is he alive?”

The doctor removed his surgical mask, revealing a slightly cynical but handsome face.

He looked at William before smiling at Cecelia, “Little missy, don’t worry, with me here, it’d be difficult for him to die.”

“Really?”

“If you don’t believe me, see for yourself later.”

Cecelia was extremely excited. She turned around and gave William a big hug, “Pretty boy, you hear that? Just as you said, he’s still alive.”

William looked at the joyful little face and a dark light flashed across his eyes, “Mm, you should go home now, I’ll stay back here.”

“But–” Cecelia bit her lips, “I want to see him.”

She was so busy being afraid just now that she did not even take a good look at her savior.

“No!” Realizing that his emotions were a little out of control, William frowned, before steadying his voice, “You should go home and get some money to pay for the medical bill.”

“Oh, yes, you’re right!” Cecelia said. “He was hurt because of me, of course I should pay for his medical bills. Pretty boy, please stay here and take care of my savior, I’ll make a trip home and return as soon as I can.”

Cecelia was already a distance away when she finished her sentence.

Zachary Quaid, who stood beside William, saw the entire exchange. He looked at William and teased, “William Sandler, I really didn’t expect that you’d prefer a little plum like this. She’s just a little girl who is yet to grow up. Let me say this first, when the time comes, I may not be able to call her my sister-in-law.”

After such a long speech from Zachary, William merely shot him a glare before he backed down, “Okay, okay, sister-in-law it is, she’s going to be my sister-in-law from now on!”

William ignored him, striding along as he asked, “How was it?”

“D*mn it, he actually got close to Cecelia just to harm you, he’s really put everything into this. He’s got two broken ribs.”

William’s cold gaze turned to ice when he heard that.

Normally, Cecelia would never take a cab, traveling by bus in most instances, unless it was for something urgent. An example of this would be that even when they were getting their marriage certificate if William had not stopped a cab without first discussing with her, she would definitely have taken the bus instead.

But the situation was different now. It was urgent. When she arrived at the main entrance of the hospital, there was a cab waiting there. The driver lowered the car window to offer his services, and she entered the car without a second thought.

She needed to go home quickly to get the money. She still owed the hospital payment for the surgery just now.

Not to mention, the hospital was quite humanitarian, willing to operate though the patient was in arrears.

Dashing into her home at top speed, Cecelia quickly grabbed her card before leaving again.

However, just as she was about to close the door, she stopped as she had just thought of something, and reentered the house.

The dry clothes she was currently wearing belonged to a nurse, whom William asked to borrow from, but he was still in wet clothes. Although it was summer, it was not healthy to stay in wet clothes after all.

With this in mind, Cecelia entered the bedroom to fetch some clothes for William.

When she saw the clothes belonging to William occupying almost half the closet, however, Cecelia frowned, “When did he buy so many clothes, and how much did it cost? It couldn’t be on credit again, could it?”

Although she felt quite upset about it, Cecelia still reached out and grabbed a set of clothes.

What could she do about it anyway, she could not even win an argument against him, let alone a fight. Besides, she was grateful for his company today, otherwise, she really would not know what to do.

Only heaven knew she was nearly frightened to death at that moment.

After taking the clothes, Cecelia went out again. Like before, she rushed to the hospital at top speed.

Handing the clothes to William, she said, “Pretty boy, I’ve got a clean set of clothes for you. Find a place quickly and change into it, don’t catch a cold.”

William stared at the clothes in his hands and his eyes darkened.

Truth be told, he did not expect Cecelia to bring him clothes. He thought her mind was preoccupied with her savior!

Just as that thought crossed his mind, Cecelia asked nervously, “How was it? Did my savior wake up? Is he in stable condition? Can I see him?”

The long string of questions made William’s face darkened, and he said mildly, “He’s awake.”

“Really!” Cecelia exclaimed impatiently, “Which ward is he in? I’ll go look for him now.”

When William did not respond, Cecelia reached out for his hand, “Pretty boy, take me to my savior quickly. You don’t know how dangerous the situation was. If not for him, I would be dead or crippled. I’ll thank him properly later. A kind man like him is really hard to come by. He’s really a good Samaritan!”

Her words were full of passion, but with only three words from William, her mood took a hundred and eighty degrees turn–
