Chapter 4 - Shocking Truth

last update Last Updated: 2021-08-16 20:28:37

- What do you mean? I don't understand...- Selene looked at her aunt strangely.- "Who am I really? What's that supposed to mean?"- she thought sarcastically.

- Eh... It may seem ridiculous to you, but... you are not human. You are a sorceress.- Meredith explained.

Selene's eyes grew round, she was speechless and fell heavily on the sofa. There was silence for a moment.

- In addition, you are "the chosen one"...- her aunt began speaking again, wondering how to put in words what she wanted to convey to her niece.- You are the one who is born once in a thousand years, our hope, for at the age of eighteen you will become powerful enough to defeat the demon lord Alistair. All these people who are here are wizards and witches, they came here to protect you until your destiny is fulfilled and to teach you to control the power that will soon begin to show.- she finished, watching Selene's reaction.

- What kind of power? - Selene asked, not understanding.

- Like all of the "chosen ones", you can control the elements: water, fire, air, earth and spirit.- Meredith replied.

Selene was unable to utter a word. This story was absurd, although it did explain some aspects that frustrated her immensely, such as the strange names of her and parents.

- When you were born...- her aunt continued the story.-... your mother put a seal on you that protected from attacks by demons. Unfortunately, from today this shield stopped working, that's why they came here.- she pointed at the guests.

At the same time Selene finally looked at their faces. One of the men seemed familiar to her.

-"That's the same dark haired guy from the cafe!"- she suddenly realized.

The boy also looked at her surprised, but he was clearly pleased with this coincidence.

- Let me introduce everyone to you one by one.- Meredith walked slowly towards the guests. First, she approached a woman with shoulder length, brown hair, green eyes, athletic body and medium height.- This is the Head of the Council of Sorceresses, Elisabeth Spelling. She is two thousand one hundred years old, her additional gift is the ability to manipulate emotions. She leads the Council and makes sure that every wizard or witch obeys the code that applies to us.- her aunt said, and walked over to the next person. It was a woman with long, wavy dark blond hair, azure blue eyes, slim and half a head taller than Elisabeth.- And this is Rita Stone. She is twelve hundred years old and has a gift of empathy, can feel the emotions and feelings of others and partially take them on herself to reduce their impact.- Meredith introduced her and passed to that dark haired guy that Selene knew from the cafe, who was standing next to Rita.- The man next to her is Eleazar Stone, her younger brother.- well, now Selene noticed their unusual resemblance.- He is eight hundred and ninety-nine years old, and his gift is the ability to move through space, otherwise called teleportation.- Meredith concluded, and then she walked over to a short, filigree brunette with elbow-length hair and navy blue eyes, who was looking shyly at Selene from under her long, dark lashes. There was an unusual interest in her eyes.- Here is Isabelle Thomson.- Meredith pointed at her.- She's already nine hundred and fifty-five years old and can create illusions, is a little too quiet and shy, but don't worry about it.- her aunt added in almost a whisper, walking up to a tall man with medium-length black hair who was holding Isabelle's hand.- Nearby is her husband, Johnathan Thomson, one thousand one hundred years old and is capable of opening portals to parallel worlds. It will come in handy when we are forced to take you somewhere to protect from the attack of demons.- Meredith said, and there was some sadness in her eyes. Apparently, it was the last resort for her.- Me, Rita and Isabelle belong to the so-called Big Three. As the oldest sorceresses, we help Elisabeth in making important decisions. The first of the Big Three, which in this case is me, will become leader when Elisabeth turn three thousand years old.- she explained before moving on to the next person.

Meredith walked over to a group of girls, consisting of two blondes, a dark-haired girl, a brunette, and one whose hair could be described as copper in color, because it wasn't red or blonde, but something in between.

- Here...- aunt pointed to the red-haired one first.-... is Alice. She is the youngest of us, only one hundred and fifty years old and, like your mother, can read minds.- after these words, the girl smiled at Selene very warmly and threw herself on her neck, hugging slightly.

- Hi. Nice to meet you.- Alice said, looking at her bewildered face.- You don't really believe it all, do you?- it was clear she had been reading Selene's mind from the beginning.

Elisabeth chilled Alice with her eyes. She pulled away immediately, but the warm smile did not disappear from her face.

- Well... You can see what a happy sorceress she is.- Meredith commented, walking up to one of the blondes. She had shoulder length, straight hair and green eyes. Her expression indicated that she was not as happy as Alice, on the contrary - deadly serious.

- This is Tess.- aunt introduced the girl with a slight smile, watching her niece react.- She is three hundred and sixty years old and can create shields that protect against mental attacks, can even transfer them and extend over others, thus blocking access to their minds.- she explained.- Next to Tess...- Meredith pointed to the other blonde, with curly hair down to her wrists and pale blue eyes, slightly shorter than Tess.-... is her younger sister, Teresa. She, on the other hand, is three hundred and fifty years old and can track a person if they are in danger. It is easiest for her if such a person uses magical power, then the visions come faster.- she added.

Teresa walked over to Selene as well and hugged her tightly. This kind gesture made her seem as nice as Alice at once. Selene felt that she would be friends with both of them for sure.

- Standing a little further is Maria, a sorceress from Spain.- Meredith pointed to a tall, brown-haired girl with a model figure. She was so beautiful and moved with such grace that as approached Selene, she paled. Even one of her best friends, Jennifer, could not compete with this woman full of sex appeal.- Maria is five hundred and ten years old. As the daughter of an angel and sorceress, she has wings and can cure just like your father.- said her aunt, turning to Selene.- But her biggest drawback is that she loves to flirt with mortals.- she added quietly, smiling.- And the last one is Deborah.- Meredith walked over to a skinny brunette with black eyes and a dark complexion.- Deborah is nine hundred and forty-five years old, and is another candidate for the Big Three. Her gift is psychokinesis. She can use her mind to lower or raise the temperature of a given body so that freezes it or causes to self-ignite.- aunt finished and sighed softly.

- So as you can see, we have a nice arsenal. This time we prepared even more solidly and I am sure that everything will go according to plan.- summed up Elisabeth.

- Well, yeah... But I don't know the most important thing yet. How old are you, aunt, and what gift do you have?- Selene asked uncertainly. Only now did she slowly begin to realize that this was all true.

- You're right.- Meredith spoke up.- Well, I'm fourteen hundred and eighty years old and I can sense the presence of demons and other beings.- she said with a smile.- Namida, your mother, was two hundred years older than me and, as I mentioned, she could read minds, also belonged to the Big Three before her death, was the successor of Elisabeth...- Meredith sighed softly.- And your father, Nathaniel, would be about nineteen hundred years old today. He could heal, but everyone except himself. For Maria, in turn, all wounds heal. This is because she is half angel, not like your father, who was a wizard with healing gift. As a result, he died at the hand of the demon he wanted to annihilate, who's name was Salvatore. To this day, I try to find him by the smell left behind on Nathaniel's body, but I think this demon has hidden somewhere in the Underworld, and there my power does not reach, just like any of us.- she looked at the rest of those present.

- Okay, enough of these formalities... Cake and gifts are waiting!- Alice shouted cheerfully, apparently wanting to improve the atmosphere a bit, which had become a bit sad because of Meredith's story, which in turn was completely out of place for a birthday party.

Selene blew out the candles and sliced the cake. After everyone had eaten, she took care of the gifts. Aunt Meredith gave her the Book of Spells that Selene's mother used, she got a protective amulet from Elisabeth, a deck of tarot cards from Rita and Eleazar, Isabelle and Johnathan gave her runes, Alice, Tess and Teresa such small things as a cauldron, potions bottles, magic candles, incense, magic powders, etc. Maria and Deborah gave her a crystal ball. Selene thanked each one of them, and she still couldn't believe this wasn't a dream.

Damon was staring at Alistair with no little admiration and decided that would do anything to participate in this mission. He wanted his master to be pleased with him. It could not be said that Damon loved him, for such feelings were alien to him as a demon, but he felt the need to remain loyal to his guardian and king.- My dear subjects, kinsmen, friends!- Alistair finally spoke up.- Each of you probably knows what day it is today... The time finally came and the "chosen one" turns sixteen. Today, the seal placed on her by mother broke, giving us the opportunity to attack and eliminate this girl, as we did with the two previous ones. The first time it went smoothly... It's kind of embarrassing.- Selene stuttered, rolling her eyes.- Go ahead.- Eleazar encouraged her with a warm smile. Only now did she realize how handsome this boy was, and his eyes were blazing with some strange light. He took her hand lightly now, waiting for an answer, and his touch made Selene shudder slightly. What was wrong with her?- Will you tell me, please?- El

He was handsome and there was something about him that clearly attracted girls.- So you're saying that Jennifer is crazy about me?- he raised an eyebrow slightly upward.- Yeah. But honestly, who wouldn't be crazy?- Selene teased him.- And are you crazy about me?- Eleazar asked bravely, looking into her eyes.- Well, sure, a little bit.- Selene said honestly, because it was indeed true. She felt that had a thread of sympathy with this boy. From his expression, however, Selene read that it meant a little more to him than to her.- I mean, you are a great person to talk to... I feel that we will become very good friends.- she corrected hurriedly so that he would not give himself too much hope.- Friends... That's great.- Eleazar replied, clearly a bit disappointed by this word.- You're sad...- Selene remarked. She felt sorry for the boy because probably hurt his feelings now.

The next day, Selene woke up very early. All night she dreamed of a mysterious man whom she met yesterday. Now her only dream was to see him again, talk for a while, find out his name... There were so many questions in her head. Of course, Selene knew she shouldn't be thinking of him, and certainly not in that, kind of romantic, way. He was a demon, her natural enemy. Unfortunately, Selene's heart skipped a beat at the mere memory of him, and she couldn't help it. For now, she didn't even want to wonder what would happen if aunt Margareth finds out about her feelings.Selene stretched first, then slowly dragged herself off the bed, her eyes immediately fixed on the Book of Magic that was lying down on the desk, the one she had gotten from aunt Meredith yesterday. Selene took it gently in her hands and sat on the edge of the bed, setting the bulky volume on her lap, and flipped through the book several times. Afer the fourth time she stopped at a page that showed a portrait of a

When Damon was back in the Monroe family's garden, his heart began to beat faster. Out of nowhere, there was a passionate desire to meet this girl again inside of him. He knew she would probably kill him - after all, she was a sorceress and her job was to wipe out demons - but that didn't seem to scare Damon off. He was ready for it, if only to be able to see her again, even if it would be the last time in his life.Damon walked over the wall, hid behind the trees and then saw HER. She was walking in the garden with some other girl with red hair and a pale complexion, he sensed that she was also a sorceress. They talked freely about anything and everything, laughing out loud from time to time. His beloved looked so radiant when she smiled... and that made him happy too, mainly because he could at least observe her from a distance. Damon tried to look more closely at her while being careful not to lean out too far. If they both noticed him, he would be dead for sure. At the same

Rita sat in silence for a moment with her eyes closed, as if she wanted to gather enough strength for what she was about to tell. Selene sat on the couch next to her, eyes never leaving Rita, waiting impatiently for what she was about to hear. Isabelle interested her very much, and she was sure that would certainly not learn anything from her. And Selene was eager to find out something more about Isabelle, to find out the reason why she was so quiet. There was certainly a reason, each such person usually hid some tragic story that caused them to close themselves off from the world. And the worst part was that people like Isabelle were rarely asked for details, because like a wounded animal, they shelter themselves with tall walls and usually avoid talking about what has hurt them. Well, unless the questioner was a psychologist and could ask about it in a very gentle way, but Selene wasn't skilled enough to do it. Therefore, she was waiting impatiently for Rita's words so that she co

Therefore, she was very proud of herself.Selene got out of bed, stretching a few times, then went to the bathroom and took a shower. After had dried her hair well, she returned to the room wearing a bathrobe. Then Selene went to the closet and took out her long-worn jeans and a white long-sleeved blouse, so thin she had to put a top under it - and chose blue one, on thin straps, which she liked very much. Then Selene walked slowly down the stairs to the kitchen for breakfast, clearly hearing aunt Meredith bustle and smelling the wonderful smells spread throughout the house.~~~~~~Damon couldn't sleep that night. He felt as if all his life energy was leaving him along with anger, and when became like a normal demon again, he fell to his knees, completely exhausted. At this moment one of Alistair's troops moved to attack him. Damon knew he was too weak to defend himself, so he closed his eyes and suddenly felt someone grab his hand, then as if he felt nothing for a few seconds. When Damon opened his eyes two minutes later, he was lying on the bed in the makeshift hospital, Selene was holding his hand, crying, and Maria raised her hands over his body. He clearly felt some power begin to spread over his body. Damon slowly began to regain his strength, and Selene, seeing him awake, beamed as she wiped away her tears.- How are you feeling?- she asked, her voice still apprehensive.- Okay.- Damon replied, and Selene sighed with relief.- But how did I get here? Around 11 p.m. the fight became even more fierce than before. Eleazar was increasingly unable to keep up with the teleporting of the wounded, Maria and the angels also felt a slight panic - their makeshift hospital was filling up at an alarming rate, and as little as one person left it, several other wounded appeared in this place. Fatigue and impatience with the still uncertain result of the battle clearly troubled all figthing. Tess, despite the support from others and short breaks, was slowly losing strength, and her shield was starting to let through some of the stronger mental attacks. Alice also felt very tired of constantly browsing through so many, often quite complicated, minds at once. Deborah returned quickly to the battlefield, and, encouraged by victory over Salvadore, she fought as fiercely as ever.Fortunately, the battle was still remarkably even. Everyone knew that, according to the prophecy of Joan Thomson, mother of Johnathan and the great Oracle, the fate of

July 19 finally came and that day, from the very morning, Meredith felt that the opponents were approaching. Around noon, she notified everyone:- The army will soon emerge from behind the trees, they will come from the forests to the east, I feel the very strong demon energy. There are a lot of them... More than we expected. They also took the worst scums from the Underworld with them, vampires, strigoi, trolls and other monsters, all children of the darkness.- Meredith said, staring at the forest wall.- So many minds...- Alice added, focusing hard on understanding the thoughts of the enemies.- Can you read all of their minds?- Rita asked, looking at her with concern.- I understand the thoughts of the demons and the others have far less complex minds, so I have no problem understanding the thoughts of trolls, strigoi and similar creatures. It will be worse with vampires, because some of them are "shields" and therefore can block their mind just like Tess.- Al

Rita gathered all members of the Spencer family - mother, father, grandmother, two sisters and another brother, Eleazar brought his thirty fellow wizards with whom he attended the school of magic, and they took their family and friends with them. Johnathan, along with Isabelle, invited his mother, five brothers and their wives, even children, who were mostly grown up and could fight demons very well. This is out of my mind! After all, it was possible for a single demon to do it in the past!- he gasped, giving each one of them a murderous glare.- But my lord, you don't know how many protectors are there now. Two wizards, as many as nine sorceresses, one of them is a half-angel and... Before everyone knew it, another school year had arrived. Before it started, there were several more attacks from Salvadore, Johhan and Chris, but Selene was watched day and night. Later, even during her lessons at school, Damon was always somewhere around, ready to protect her, although he doubted that Salvadore would attack Selene in a place with a lot of people. Maybe he was getting more and more desperate, but for sure was not so stupid. No matter how powerful some demons were, they never risked exposing themselves to too many mortals at once.Jennifer and Sarah, Selene's school friends, also did not leave her side, as if they subconsciously knew something was going on, although in fact they were still blissfully ignorant.- How are you and Damon?- Jen asked excitedly.- Everything is fine... But then Johhan and Marco rose right in front of the wall and found themselves on the other side of it in no time, there they came across Salvadore and with him they quickly went to the portal that teleport to the Underworld.- They're gone, damn it!- Damon was clearly irritated, and punched the ground with all his strength.- I should have guessed they'd make this maneuver.- Marco added, guilt c
