"So what do you say about my offer?" Lila asked as they stood outside waiting for her cab to arrive. Damien wondered what kind of girl she was and how she was so simple. He had expected her to show up in some fancy dress and shoes, but she wore an ordinary, no-brand-name t-shirt and a pair of jeans with slip-on tennis shoes. Instead of having one of the drivers at her house pick her up, she was using a taxi service. Damien could not figure her out because it seemed all he knew about her did not match what he saw currently, and he knew that would be much of a hassle for him.

"I will think about it and you will hear my conclusion from your brother," he said. She nodded as she watched her taxi pull up in front of her and roll down the window.

"Here for Ms. Carson, the man said, and she nodded with her hands waving in the air.

"That is me," she said, going to the back seat. Before her hand could touch and pull on the handle, the door opened in front of her. She looked up to him. "I could

"What are you doing here, Sam?" Damien asked as he entered the home office. He had just returned from the date, and he had a lot to do for work, but he was not going to go to work and was going to work from home."How did you know someone was here?" Sam asked, turning the chair, backing the door, and shifting so he could be closer to the table. "Most importantly, how did you know I was the one?" Sam added a bit creeped out that Damien could make out his image in the darkness of the room.Damien walked over to the light switch and turned it on so the light from the bulbs spread through the room. He pointed to Sam's briefcase that was casually sitting on one of the couches in the room. "You are a lawyer; you should know better," he said, walking away from the switch to his desk."And you are a wizard," Sam replied, swaying in the chair from side to side."Get off my chair. I have a lot to do." Damien held the chair in place so that Sam could not shift the chair anymore."Huh!" Sam excla

"Why would I hurt myself?" Damien asked, looking up from the file in his lap to Sam, who sat there staring at him. "I am doing this to relieve myself of the pain I have been feeling for the past three years. Only if I do this can I rest.""Are you sure about that?" Sam asked."Why won't I be sure?" Damien shook his head and flipped the page of the file in hand."Because I do not think that you can achieve peace by doing this.""I have been beating myself up all this while because I have been unable to do anything for Amber; this is the only way I can make that girl pay and still allow Amber to be pleased."Sam wanted to scream at Damien to wake up, but he knew it was going to be a waste of time to do that. He had made up his mind to do this, and anything said now was just going to be like beating a rock. He was not going to find fulfilment or fill the hole with revenge, but he knew that forgiveness was not an option for him with this woman."Tell me the plan," Sam said out of the blue

"Did I keep you waiting for long?" Arietta asked as she sat down to dinner with Oliver."I just got here," Oliver said absentmindedly."Dod you?" she asked, and he nodded, looking down at his phone. He was expecting a response from Damien. If he could get his sister to be with him, then he would be happy about it all and probably steeled down herself, but he was nervous because he knew how stubborn Lila could be and tried her best to fight to the end and get what she wanted. You look gloomy; is all well?" Arietta asked Yappig the table so he could raise his eyes to her."It is," he said with a smile before putting his phone away."It does not seem that way to me," she said, tilting her head, hoping to get him to talk to her about whatever it was that was bothering him."It is fine." She took a deep breath and decided to let it go.Arietta and Oliver had been in an arranged relationship for about three months, and she felt it was time for them to decide the fate of their future togethe

Arietta sat there looking at Oliver; she wanted to scream at him and ask him if she had just wasted three months of her life trying to make this work but he did not even try and now he thought it was so easy so he could just break it off with her just like that. She cleared her throat and shifted until she was at the edge of her seat."Do you not like me?" she asked because it felt like she had misunderstood him all this while. She thought he was just an aloof man who liked to hide his feelings deep in his soul. She thought that he was the kind of man who masked his emotions with a stone face. Was she wrong? Did he not have any feelings for her?"I do not." The words as it left his mouth drove straight to her heart like a dagger that was thrust in and turned from side to side. She blinked and swallowed the lump in her throat."You do not?" she said, closing her eyes tightly as the memories of the past month flooded her heart. She could recount all of the things that had happened so we

"You promised to let me visit the family of the dead woman," Lila said as she heard her brother come into the kitchen. She had been waiting around for Gim to get back after her date, but somehow he was late that day. She wondered why he was so late that night. Since she got home, she had not noticed that he always got back late until tonight, when she needed something from him. When he did not make any snarky comments or reply sarcastically, she turned to make sure that he was the one who entered and that she did not just creep out a random staff. Surely he was the one standing there, but he had his tie on his neck half hazardly and his suit jacket in hand. This was not the image of her brother she was used to.Even after the end of a long day, he always had his tie firmly wrapped around his neck. She remembered when she was preparing to leave the house; this was shortly after her father died. Her mother turned to a travelling alcoholic as soon as her father's body was laid cold on th

Lila rushed and ran in his direction, and she was able to get to him before he could get into his room. "Wait!" she called from the distance and rushed to him."What is it?" he asked coldly. Lila wondered if this was the same man who had just been distraught a few minutes ago. How was he so cold that he was able to suppress and bury all of the emotions she felt and now acted like he had no emotions in the world? She bit the insides of her cheek in annoyance. She wished he would show emotions as he used to and just live a normal life."You said if I went on this blind date you would let me visit the family of the deceased; I want to do that tomorrow," she announced, and he shook his head."You can't," he said in a tone that told her to argue because his words were the law. She did not care about it anyway; he was to use it with his staff and not with her because it was not going to work."That was not our agreement," she said, ready to get into a fight with him if need be."Was it?" he

"And what do you intend to gain out of this? You are already rich and have all you can want so what do you think a poor girl like myself can give to you?" Lila wanted to sound helpless because she did not want to be in debt to him in any way. She just wished he would help her so she could repay and then they would part ways.Of course, she knew that, asking him to give a good report to her brother just so she could meet with the Amber Voss family. She knew that as soon as she met them, she would have to try and get him out of her life. She was not interested in getting married, even though she knew this was not something she would escape. Her simple plan was to stall as much as she could."I do not have anything in mind of now; maybe later something would come up and I might need your help," he said and she could not disagree with that. Lila woke up that morning and went down to have breakfast. She sat down to the boring plain oatmeal meal that her brother had requested. She was continuously picking on the food because it reminded her so much about prison."Can I have something else?" she asked the staff who just happened to be passing by at that time. She dumped the spoon into the bowl and dropped her hand to her lap. "Can I have something else?" she asked again when the girl stood still, not answering."We did not make anything else today," she said, looking around with fear. She had heard from the whispers of the other staff that she was a runaway daughter of the family who ended up landing in jail for killing someone, and truly hearing that put some kind of fear in her. She had been avoiding her at all costs; she could not believe that she was left alone with her in the same room. She just wanted to fly away at that moment. She was startled back to reality with a slight graze on her lower arm. She jumped, took a

"Look what we got in the mail," Evangeline said, waving the card in hand in the air happily. It was one of those rare mornings when they both sat at the table and ate together. Gavin always rushed out in the morning, while Evangeline stayed in bed longer than she should. "What is it?" Gavin asked, not impressed by the paper in her hand. For all he could know, that could be their bills or a bank statement on one of her numerous credit cards. He wondered if having a crippling debt on her card was a flex for her. "Your credit card bill?" "Of course not," she said, furrowing her eyebrow as she sat down in the chair opposite him. "That is exciting, but not as exciting as this news I am about to share with you." "Gee, what could be more exciting than your wonderful debt?" He said it in a dry tone. "Keep on being stupid; I will still tell you anyway," she murmured angrily, raking out the card from the envelope, dropping the envelope to the table, and turning to him as she began to read.

"You are back early," Lila said when she saw her brother walk in. She was going to talk to him the next morning since she thought he would probably be out late since he had a date with Arietta. It was strange to her that he was already at home. "The date finished early," he said, and she frowned with her lip running downwards. "What is that supposed to mean? What do you mean by the date finished early?" She asked, getting from the couch, to go meet him by the door. "Arietta gave me good news, and I wanted to come hear from you about it.""She told you already?" Lila gasped in disbelief. "So how did this happen?" "I ran into Gavin's new wife, and she pushed me to the wall—the wall I did not know that I had built up. It was not a good feeling, but I know that if I let her continue with me like that, I would like it.""I think you have made the right decision," Oliver said proudly. She did not want them to make a fuss overanythingg; she had made her point to Evangeline, so now she could relax."The present staff do not know any better." Lila could remember coming into the store with her mom when she was younger, and she could remember how members of the staff fussed over her. Her mom did buy a lot, so maybe their actions in themselves were not entirely bad, but it already made her feel self-conscious about it all."It is fine; I am fine." "How is Mrs. Carson? It's been a while since I heard from her," the manager said, trying to make small talk."Having the time of her life," Lila said a bit only because she genuinely did not know how her mother was. She was convincing herself that no news was good news and that if anything had gone wrong, they would have heard about it."How can I serve you today?" The

Who on earth was Lila assassinated with that you think to do something like this to her?"Gavin," she said in a sad tone over the phone. "Gavin boo," she said again. She had been mean to him over the past few weeks, but she had to tell him what she had just experienced. "Evangeline? Darling? Why do you sound so sad?" He asked in a panicked tone. "I was just kicked out of my favourite store." Gavin relaxed; he had feared that she was in danger, but he thought that this was just a little trouble over clothes, and he felt better. "Don't you think this is too flashy?" Lila asked, stepping out of the changing room. She was in a red sequin dress flowing down to the ground; the neck was deeply cut to show a bit of her cleavage and highlighted her silhouette and curves. It was not a lie; the dress looked too good on her, and she wanted to get it. But how could she think of getting something as expensive as this without any reason? "I have no place to wear it, so why should I buy it?" she murmured. "Who knows, you might need to attend an event soon, and wearing this would make everyone look at you." "A thousand dollars?" Lila gasped as she picked up the tag of the dress that Arietta had pushed into her hand. "That is quite affordable," Areitta said. They had spent about ten minutes going around the store with Arietta taking out clothes from the display rack and pushing them into her hands. Lila had been taking a peek at the clothes, and they were not the types she could afford. Even though Arietta had told her that she was going to have to pay and that she should not worry, Lila could not help but feel weirded out by the experience. Aruetta had said that this was her way of apologizing for the mistake that she had made, and Lila had said that a simple apology would have sufficed for it. Arietta decided to help Oliver out even though she did not fully understand the concept of it all. That was the best she could do for them.
