"Why would I hurt myself?" Damien asked, looking up from the file in his lap to Sam, who sat there staring at him. "I am doing this to relieve myself of the pain I have been feeling for the past three years. Only if I do this can I rest."

"Are you sure about that?" Sam asked.

"Why won't I be sure?" Damien shook his head and flipped the page of the file in hand.

"Because I do not think that you can achieve peace by doing this."

"I have been beating myself up all this while because I have been unable to do anything for Amber; this is the only way I can make that girl pay and still allow Amber to be pleased."

Sam wanted to scream at Damien to wake up, but he knew it was going to be a waste of time to do that. He had made up his mind to do this, and anything said now was just going to be like beating a rock. He was not going to find fulfilment or fill the hole with revenge, but he knew that forgiveness was not an option for him with this woman.

"Tell me the plan," Sam said out of the blue

"Did I keep you waiting for long?" Arietta asked as she sat down to dinner with Oliver."I just got here," Oliver said absentmindedly."Dod you?" she asked, and he nodded, looking down at his phone. He was expecting a response from Damien. If he could get his sister to be with him, then he would be happy about it all and probably steeled down herself, but he was nervous because he knew how stubborn Lila could be and tried her best to fight to the end and get what she wanted. You look gloomy; is all well?" Arietta asked Yappig the table so he could raise his eyes to her."It is," he said with a smile before putting his phone away."It does not seem that way to me," she said, tilting her head, hoping to get him to talk to her about whatever it was that was bothering him."It is fine." She took a deep breath and decided to let it go.Arietta and Oliver had been in an arranged relationship for about three months, and she felt it was time for them to decide the fate of their future togethe

Arietta sat there looking at Oliver; she wanted to scream at him and ask him if she had just wasted three months of her life trying to make this work but he did not even try and now he thought it was so easy so he could just break it off with her just like that. She cleared her throat and shifted until she was at the edge of her seat."Do you not like me?" she asked because it felt like she had misunderstood him all this while. She thought he was just an aloof man who liked to hide his feelings deep in his soul. She thought that he was the kind of man who masked his emotions with a stone face. Was she wrong? Did he not have any feelings for her?"I do not." The words as it left his mouth drove straight to her heart like a dagger that was thrust in and turned from side to side. She blinked and swallowed the lump in her throat."You do not?" she said, closing her eyes tightly as the memories of the past month flooded her heart. She could recount all of the things that had happened so we

"You promised to let me visit the family of the dead woman," Lila said as she heard her brother come into the kitchen. She had been waiting around for Gim to get back after her date, but somehow he was late that day. She wondered why he was so late that night. Since she got home, she had not noticed that he always got back late until tonight, when she needed something from him. When he did not make any snarky comments or reply sarcastically, she turned to make sure that he was the one who entered and that she did not just creep out a random staff. Surely he was the one standing there, but he had his tie on his neck half hazardly and his suit jacket in hand. This was not the image of her brother she was used to.Even after the end of a long day, he always had his tie firmly wrapped around his neck. She remembered when she was preparing to leave the house; this was shortly after her father died. Her mother turned to a travelling alcoholic as soon as her father's body was laid cold on th

Lila rushed and ran in his direction, and she was able to get to him before he could get into his room. "Wait!" she called from the distance and rushed to him."What is it?" he asked coldly. Lila wondered if this was the same man who had just been distraught a few minutes ago. How was he so cold that he was able to suppress and bury all of the emotions she felt and now acted like he had no emotions in the world? She bit the insides of her cheek in annoyance. She wished he would show emotions as he used to and just live a normal life."You said if I went on this blind date you would let me visit the family of the deceased; I want to do that tomorrow," she announced, and he shook his head."You can't," he said in a tone that told her to argue because his words were the law. She did not care about it anyway; he was to use it with his staff and not with her because it was not going to work."That was not our agreement," she said, ready to get into a fight with him if need be."Was it?" he

"And what do you intend to gain out of this? You are already rich and have all you can want so what do you think a poor girl like myself can give to you?" Lila wanted to sound helpless because she did not want to be in debt to him in any way. She just wished he would help her so she could repay and then they would part ways.Of course, she knew that, asking him to give a good report to her brother just so she could meet with the Amber Voss family. She knew that as soon as she met them, she would have to try and get him out of her life. She was not interested in getting married, even though she knew this was not something she would escape. Her simple plan was to stall as much as she could."I do not have anything in mind of now; maybe later something would come up and I might need your help," he said and she could not disagree with that. Lila woke up that morning and went down to have breakfast. She sat down to the boring plain oatmeal meal that her brother had requested. She was continuously picking on the food because it reminded her so much about prison."Can I have something else?" she asked the staff who just happened to be passing by at that time. She dumped the spoon into the bowl and dropped her hand to her lap. "Can I have something else?" she asked again when the girl stood still, not answering."We did not make anything else today," she said, looking around with fear. She had heard from the whispers of the other staff that she was a runaway daughter of the family who ended up landing in jail for killing someone, and truly hearing that put some kind of fear in her. She had been avoiding her at all costs; she could not believe that she was left alone with her in the same room. She just wanted to fly away at that moment. She was startled back to reality with a slight graze on her lower arm. She jumped, took a

"Evangeline!" Gavin said as he walked into the house. He took a quick look around and briskly walked into the backyard, where the outdoor pool was. She had made sure to turn the backyard into a personal pool for herself and spent almost all day lounging around there as long as she was not rushing to go shopping. He turned and entered the house and walked to one of the rooms inside, where she had changed to an indoor cinema. She had told him that she hated going to a public cinema, so she needed to have one at home to watch movies anytime she wanted. Evangeline," he said, opening the door and peeping inside only to be met with silence and darkness. He sighed as he wondered if she had ever used the cinema or if it was just a waste of money. He climbed the stairs and stopped by the door of the room they shared. He held the doorknob ready to get into an argument with them because there was possibly no way that this would not end in an argument. "Evangeline!" he said in a high-toned voice

Evangeline let out a loud cackle and turned to him laughing and doubling over, touching her knee as if she had received exciting news. "You think I do not know what you did to Lila?" she asked, cleaning off the tears that had formed in the corner of her eyes. "So you think I would just come into this relationship without any sort of insurance on my part?" she added, standing up with her hand on her waist. "What are you saying?" "I'm saying that I have evidence that you were the killer, not Lila," she said, cackling. "That is impossible; you possibly cannot have any evidence," he said in a faltering tone. He cleared his throat and held his temple in shock. "How?" he said, taking a step back. "I know you would do the right thing," she said, walking to the bed, picking up her bag, and winking at him before she walked away. "Wait!" Gavin said, trying to go after her. By the time Rosa had made sure they had enough cookies that their tooth hurt, Kevin retired to his room and then they went to the grave site. Kevin had stayed down not because he wanted to but because Rosa was suddenly herself and was now bossing him around as she used to do before. "It is going to be a long ride to the grave. Are you sure you do not want me to get anything for you?" "Anything to eat?" Lila asked, shocked. She had never been filled with cookies before; they say that there is a first time for everything and this was truly a first for her. "Yes, maybe some bread or just anything," Rosa replied and Lila shook her head. "Don't be shy and tell me; even if we don't have it at home, I will stop over at the store and get it for you." Rosa's offer sounded sweet but Lila was sure that she did not need to eat anything again. "I am fine," Lila said and then they left for the car. Lila helped Rosa into the car before turning around and getting in by herself. "We can go now," s

As if she was being watched she looked around to make sure that there were no eyes on her. As she raised her hand the door flung open and Rosa stood in front of her with a big smile across her face. "Hi, I was just about to ring the bell" she said taking a deep breath. "I know" Rosa said pushing the door wider and then stepped out. She pointed to the camera that Lila seemed to have missed and then she raised her phone and waved it to her. "I have been watching you for a while now" she added. "I am sorry, I am a bit nervous" Lila said licking her lips. She had licked it so much that all of the lip gloss she had put to prevent her lips from drying out was gone by now. "I can understand. "Where do you think you are going?" Tessa asked as Lila descended from the stairs. Lila had expected a scolding from her mom because she allowed the plan fall through but insisted she just gave her a look and went into her room. This was the first time she was seeing her since she got inside last night. "To see Amber" "But Amber is dead" Tessa words came out without any form of remorse. "She is" Lila breathed out. "She is dead but I am going to her grave to say hello and apologize for making her leave this world earlier than she was supposed to. "Why do you have to be the one to apologize for that?" Aletta asked walking into the room and standing by the door frame. "If I feel guilty then don't you think that I need to apologize?" "So you are apologizing to clear your guilt?" "I have to say you are pretty good with kids," Rosa said as they approached them. Damien and Jason had played so much that Lila was afraid that the boy was now attached to him in just a few hours. It kind of made her feel bad that the thing that took her weeks to do just took him less than an hour to achieve. "You doubted me," he said, and he felt the need to impress. "I used to volunteer at an orphanage every weekend until I got too busy," he said with a proud tone. Both ladies did not miss that he was trying to humble brag but it was obvious that he was terrible at it. "You should go back to volunteering there; I am sure that you were making such a great impact; it would be a shame if they had to let you go," Rosa said.
