Nicholas's POV

I took a deep breath, then stood up reluctantly. I glanced at the operating room door one last time before stepping out. I made sure my phone number was active to receive news from the hospital. If anything happened, I wanted to know as soon as possible.

With steady steps, I headed towards the hospital exit. Each step towards Hazel's apartment felt heavy, but I knew this was an important move. Charlie needed attention and love, and I couldn't let him feel neglected amidst all this. He had already been shaken enough.

After a few minutes of driving, I arrived at Hazel's apartment. I pressed the doorbell and stood waiting, feeling a bit anxious. Footsteps sounded from within, and then the door opened. Hazel stood there, wearing a gray sweater with her hair tied up casually. She looked at me with a flat expression, but there was a flicker of emotion in her eyes that was hard to decipher.

"How are you?" she asked briefly, clearly still upset

Nicholas's POV I took a deep breath, trying to find simple yet honest words to explain. “Mommy Sabrina is at the hospital, sweetheart. She is undergoing surgery so she can come home and play with Charlie again.”Charlie’s eyes widened; clearly, he didn’t fully understand. “Surgery? What’s wrong with Mommy Sabrina?”I swallowed hard; it was difficult for me to give a more detailed explanation to such a young child. “Mommy Sabrina is sick, but the doctors are trying to help her get better. So, right now, Charlie should pray, okay? So Mommy Sabrina can heal faster and come home.”Charlie nodded slightly, though he still seemed confused. He grasped my hand tightly. “Charlie misses Mommy Sabrina. Charlie wants Mommy Sabrina to come home now…”A heavy feeling hit my chest. I gently squeezed his hand, trying to provide a sense of calm that I felt was insufficient. “Daddy misses Mommy Sabrina too, sweetheart. But we have to be patient, okay? If

Nicholas's POVIn the cold, sterile waiting room, the atmosphere was filled with a suffocating silence. Only the ticking of the wall clock could be heard, filling the frozen void of time. Every second felt like a year, and each minute became a long, exhausting journey.I stared at the white walls, trying to find something to divert my thoughts. However, my mind kept returning to Sabrina, to her cheerful face and warm smile. Memories flooded back of the times we laughed together, the beautiful moments before everything changed. As the doctor explained the procedures that needed to be followed, fear began to creep into my heart. The pain she was experiencing was now replaced by uncertainty. This surgery was not just about the physical aspect; it was about the hopes and dreams that were at stake. Would everything go smoothly? Would she return to her former self? These questions spun in my mind, adding weight to my chest. In one corner of the room, a

Nicholas's POV The first procedure was successful, but the journey ahead is still long. The thought of Sabrina being weak and needing further monitoring makes me anxious. How I wish to be by her side, providing the support and love she needs. The surgery went well. That should be good news, but for some reason, the relief doesn't come entirely. Uncertainty still shrouds my mind, making me feel trapped between hope and fear."Does this mean she will... be okay?" I ask hesitantly, my voice trembling as I say those words. The doctor nods, but his expression shows caution. "We've done our best, but everything depends on Sabrina's recovery process. We need to see how her body responds in the coming days," the doctor replies carefully. That answer stirs a deeper anxiety. Even though the surgery was successful, the future remains full of uncertainty. I feel as if I am at the edge of a cliff, waiting to see if the next step will lead me toward s

Nicholas's POV Those words come from the heart, filled with hope and love. In the silence of the waiting room, I envision her face, the smile that always warms my heart. Thoughts of her give me strength, even as anxiety lingers. With each passing second, I pray that she feels my presence, even though we are separated by space and time. How I wish she knew she is not alone in this struggle. We are all here for her, ready to support her in every way we can.In the silence, I imagined the future when she would recover and we could be together again. Charlie, her, and I—just like before, filled with laughter and happiness. With that thought, I felt a bit more at ease, as if that hope could illuminate the dark path ahead.I knew that no matter what happened, our love would always be the strength that guided her. She had to be strong because we all believed in her. When a nurse told me that I was allowed to see Sabrina, I could only nod withou

Nicholas's POV Time felt like it stopped in that room. I didn't know how long I sat there, just staring at her sleeping face. I felt like there was a huge wall separating us—a wall that only she could break if she chose to come back. I knew I couldn't force her, but I hoped, prayed, begged that she would keep fighting.A nurse came in, checking the medical equipment around Sabrina. She looked at me kindly. "Mr. Nicholas, you can stay a few more minutes. But after that, we need to continue monitoring."I nodded slightly, not wanting to make a fuss. I knew they only wanted what was best for Sabrina. I stood, taking one last look at her face before leaving. "I will be back," I whispered softly, as if giving her a definite promise. As I walked out, I glanced back at her one more time, hoping for a miracle that would make her open her eyes. But she remained silent, lying in a tranquility that made my heart feel heavier. I could only hop

Nicholas's POVThe three of us walked toward the hospital parking area. The fresh morning air slightly helped ease my fatigue. After a few steps, Hazel stopped and turned to me."Your car is still here, right?" she asked."Yes, it is. Wait a moment," I replied as I walked faster toward my car parked not far from there. When we reached the car, I opened the back door for Charlie. He jumped in immediately with his little enthusiasm, his tail wagging with excitement. Watching him run cheerfully made me smile, as if he brought a bit of joy into the heavy atmosphere.Once everyone was inside, I started the engine and adjusted the air conditioning. The vibrating sound of the engine seemed to erase the silence that weighed on our minds. During the drive, we passed familiar streets, but today felt different.Hazel glanced at my car for a moment before finally sitting in the front seat. "You really need to check the condition of this car,

Nicholas's POV That day, the office felt noisier than usual, or maybe it was just my overly sensitive feelings. The sounds of conversations and laughter from my coworkers echoed in my ears, creating a lively atmosphere that was hard to ignore.I sat in the large meeting room with several investors discussing the latest project proposal. In front of me, the projector displayed slides filled with numbers, statistics, and graphs. However, my head felt heavy, and my thoughts were far from all those figures. Every time someone asked a question or gave an opinion, I could only smile while trying to absorb the information, but my heart was not in that place.Worries about Sabrina and her condition in the hospital haunted me. In my mind, I pictured her weak smile and the hope resting on the care she was receiving. Every time the investors spoke, I reminded myself that this was part of my responsibility, but guilt always crept in.I stared at the screen,

Nicholas's POV “Are you okay?” she asked, her tone slightly softer than usual.I nodded, even though it was clearly a lie. “I’m fine, Livia. Thank you.”Even though my words came out calmly, there was a tension I couldn’t hide. Livia looked at me intently, as if she could see deeper than just my smiling face. The anxiety and discomfort crept back, but I tried not to let it show. After a few seconds, Livia nodded, looking a bit hesitant, before continuing. I knew she wanted to ask more, but I was grateful when she chose not to. As she walked away, I refocused on my phone, hoping to receive the news I had been waiting for, even though uncertainty loomed over every moment. She approached, looking at me sharply. “No, you’re not okay. You barely said anything during the meeting earlier. And every five minutes, you check your phone. What’s wrong?”I took a deep breath, leaning back in my chair. “Sabrina... she’s in the hospital. Sabrina's POVThis morning felt a bit quieter. There was no sound of Nicholas's footsteps usually heard from the bathroom to the kitchen, no sleepy smile as he pulled out a chair for breakfast. It was the second day without his presence, and I was still trying to adjust.Every corner of this house felt empty, as if everything had lost its color. I sat at the dining table, staring at the empty plate in front of me. The aroma of coffee that usually warmed the atmosphere now only reminded me of his absence. I tried to distract myself by reading a book, but the words on the pages felt flat and meaningless.I remembered the little moments with him—how he would often tease me when I was too serious, or how he always remembered little details about me. Without him, my days seemed dull and monotonous.Taking a deep breath, I stood up from the table. Maybe I needed to go out and get some fresh air. But before that, I glanced at our photo on the wall. Nicholas’s POV Leaning back in the car seat, I took a deep breath. I knew this journey was not just about saving the project, but also about saving trust—trust from clients, trust from my family, and perhaps, my own trust in the people I had once considered important.I opened my phone again, staring at the wallpaper photo, me, Sabrina, and Charlie in the park last week. They were the reason I had to resolve all of this. I couldn’t fail.“I’ll be home soon,” I whispered to the screen now displaying the digital boarding pass. “For you.”The plane was set to take off in one hour, and I was already sitting in the airport waiting lounge, alone with my endlessly spinning thoughts. My laptop was on my lap, but not a single email I read truly registered in my mind. I just stared at the blank screen while my thoughts returned to one point—Hazel. Why did she do it? What was her motivation? I knew she loved Charlie. But this… this wasn’

Nicholas’s POV I suddenly sank back in my chair. My body felt stiff, and my head felt like it had been hit with a blunt object. The project with Mr. Harrington wasn’t just any project; it was a long-term strategic partnership that would expand our business network into Europe. Everything was almost finalized. And now, canceled?I squeezed my temples with both hands. The missing report, Hazel avoiding me, and now this. Everything felt clearer. But there was no time to get caught up in anger or shock.I had to move quickly. With my mind starting to focus, I reopened my laptop and began checking all the data related to the project. If there were discrepancies, I needed to find them before Mr. Harrington made his final decision. One thing was certain: I couldn’t let this end like this. I had to find Hazel, get an explanation from her, and perhaps—just perhaps—find a way to save this project.“Book the fastest flight to London for today!” I c

Nicholas’s POV I had been holding my phone for five minutes, staring at the screen with Hazel's name clearly displayed. Anger bubbled inside me, but there was also deep disappointment. Even so, I knew I couldn’t resolve this with just emotions. I needed clarity. I needed direct answers from her.So, with a deep breath, I pressed the green button and brought the phone to my ear. But she didn’t answer.Seconds ticked by, feeling more and more tense. I tried calling again, but the result was the same. The courage I had built up began to fade, replaced by anxiety and frustration. What should I do now? If she was indeed involved, maybe she already knew I was suspicious. With each passing second, negative thoughts gnawed at me.The ringing tone continued until I finally heard her voice on the other end. “Hello?” “Hazel, it’s Nicholas.” There was a brief silence, then I heard her usual tone. “Oh… why are you calling

Nicholas’s POV My heart began to race. This wasn’t just an ordinary document. Inside were details of the monthly report, fund allocation strategies, and financing plans for new projects. Everything was sensitive.I stood and walked to the shelf in the corner of the room, checking the extra folders I sometimes used to store copies. Still nothing. “Strange…” I muttered as I sat back down and rubbed my temples. My mind drifted to many things. I hadn’t opened that document yesterday. So who did? My secretary was always meticulous and wouldn’t randomly move important documents without my knowledge. And the only person in my office yesterday was Hazel.I shook my head quickly, trying to dismiss the suspicion that arose. But my mind was starting to be clouded with discomfort. I rarely made mistakes with paperwork, especially something so crucial.Quickly, I pressed the intercom button. “Please come to my office now.” “Sure, sir.”

Nicholas’s POV Today was long, and I had to be strong for everything. A sense of responsibility flowed within me, pushing me to remain steadfast. With each passing second, I was determined to give my best for our family.Charlie began to tell stories about his friends at school, his cheerful voice filling the car. I tried to listen, although my thoughts still wandered to heavier matters. However, seeing his smile made me feel a little better.“Papa, look! There’s a dog!” he suddenly exclaimed, pulling my attention back to the road.I smiled, trying to engage in his excitement. “Yeah, champ! The dog is cute, isn’t it?”As soon as the car stopped right in front of the school gate, Charlie eagerly unbuckled his seatbelt. “Charlie’s off to school now, Papa!” he exclaimed as he reached for his bag in the back seat. I turned to him and placed a hand on his shoulder for a moment. “Wait a second.” Charlie stopped and looked at

Nicholas’s POV That morning, I woke up earlier than usual. The sun hadn’t fully risen yet, but its soft light was already streaming through our bedroom window. Beside me, Sabrina was still asleep, her face calm despite our deep conversation the night before.I felt relieved to have comforted her, assuring her that I would always be there for her and Charlie. Seeing her sleep peacefully made me grateful. We had been through so much, and although there were tensions to face, I believed we could find a way out together. As I gazed at her face, my mind drifted back to our conversation last night. Her fear of losing Charlie was very real, and I wanted to protect both of them from anything that could hurt them. I knew that Hazel was part of our past, and although there was hope for change, I had to remain vigilant.I quietly got out of bed, not wanting to wake her. After showering and changing into my work clothes, I left the room and caught the delici

Sabrina's POV My eyes lingered on his face longer than usual. I knew that the fear I had expressed to Nicholas wasn’t just an ordinary worry. I truly didn’t want to lose this child. Charlie meant everything to me. He might not be my biological child, but my love for him had surpassed the boundaries of blood and birth ties. My gaze fell on an object at the edge of the bed. A small toy robot from Hazel. I reached out and gently grabbed it. The toy was still lit, its light blinking softly. Charlie must have been so happy earlier. I could imagine his face when he received it directly from Hazel. But because of that, my feelings churned again. There was a faint yet piercing wound. I stared at the toy, then back at Charlie’s face. I gently caressed his cheek. “I’m sorry if I was selfish earlier,” I whispered softly, more to myself. “I was just scared. So scared…” I took a deep breath

Sabrina's POV I stepped closer, bent down for a moment, then sat on the edge of Charlie’s bed. The little one was still sound asleep, unaware that he had become the center of my worries tonight. Seeing his peaceful face made me feel calmer, even though the weight in my heart still lingered.Nicholas stood by the door, looking contemplative. I could sense the depth of our feelings. We were both parents trying to do what was best for Charlie, even though sometimes our ways were different.I turned my gaze to Nicholas, trying to find a way to bridge our feelings. “We need to be better at communicating,” I said softly, hoping to open the door to a more constructive discussion.Nicholas nodded, as if he agreed with what I was saying. A sense of guilt began to envelop my heart, reminding me that we both just wanted to protect Charlie, even though we often got caught up in differing perspectives. The tense atmosphere began to so
