The tears stopped in Helen's eyes as her hands dangled uselessly at her sides, her gaze filled with bewilderment as she looked at Andrew and Stephen.

Helen could not fathom why the pair had turned so indifferent toward her so suddenly.

Before, her tears would send them into a frenzy of concern, but all she got was a silent treatment.

It was as if she could cry a river, and they would not bat an eyelid.

Helen kept mum about the way she had baited Chloe and the snares she had craftily laid.

Her lips were sealed, but inside, she was begging Stephen.

"Stephen, I swear I didn't do anything. Please, you've got to believe me. Chloe's been nothing but kind to me. I'm still thanking my lucky stars for her, so why would I ever treat her badly? If it's her you guys care about, I can pack up and leave..."

Helen tried to force out a few more tears as she spoke.

"Is Chloe upset because I moved in? She started acting weird around me out of the blue. I don't know if it's the same thing this ti

Despite everything, Helen was determined to make one final attempt. She gripped her phone tightly and dialed Teresa Shaw, Andrew's mom, her voice breaking as she cried for help."Mrs. Shaw, Andrew... He's been so cruel to me..."She trailed off, leaving her words hanging in the air, heavy with unspoken implications.Teresa, hearing the raw pain in Helen's voice, was instantly furious."Helen, just hang tight. Without a second thought, Lily grabbed Helen's collar and dunked her head into the fountain. The water was not rushing, but it filled Helen's lungs, each gulp more agonizing than the last. After what felt like an eternity, Lily yanked her back up. "How's that for a taste of Chloe's nightmare? So close to making it, yet totally helpless!"With a look of pure disgust, Lily dropped Helen like a sack of potatoes and dusted off her pristine hands."Stephen, Andrew, since when does making a girl jealous clarify your feelings for another? Idiots! No shocker Chloe ditched you for Jeffrey from Kingston City," Lily spat out, done making excuses for her son. Teresa, ever the picture of grace, simply nodded in agreement. "You both crossed a line. Chloe's moved on, married and all. It's high time you left her be."Andrew's gaze was lowered, his eyes a storm of flickering emotions that he kept to himself. Stephen clenched his jaw, his lips pressed into a thin line, defiance written all ov

She was too caught up in taming the dress's wild hem to glance at it.She looked down and blurted out, "Jeff, could you check that for me?"Jeffrey, looking sharp in a black suit that made him look even taller, replied, "Sure."He casually leaned against the wall, grabbed Chloe's phone, and punched in her initials and birthday to unlock it.Reading Natalie's text, Jeffrey paused, a touch of jealousy in his voice as he read it out loud.[Hey, Chloe. If they just walked away then, what was all that love they had clung to for years worth? What did a lifetime, over two decades of being together, even mean? Was all that time and emotion really worth less than what they felt for someone they had barely known a month? They knew exactly what had to be done. Stephen got in touch with Lily and Teresa to dig up the last few family photos that chronicled their shared history, a timeline stretching back over twenty years. Sadly, the stash of group shots was thin since Chloe had burned most of them. They were left with mostly childhood solo shots of each other, but they were content.
